I spoke with one of the AOs. They said they recommend a certain number of years of each type of class (e.g., 5 years of English in high school) and as long as you meet all of the recommended, you’re automatically admitted. If you don’t, then it’s a slightly different process.

Rankings are not a good measure. Cal Poly is great for instruction, gaining practical skills, and access to research. It doesn’t publish as much as other universities so it is not ranked as high.

I was at a conference there 6 years ago and received a tour of the engineering labs. The students have great access to labs and can work on tons of projects. That is very hard to get at most UCs.
