to my understanding allen school ce and coe ece are two separate majors

admission for any non-ce engineering major is dtc admission into the college of engineering

#

after a bit of time as “engrud” (engineering-undeclared) you then apply for a major within the college

#

so if it says 43% acceptance rate that’s globally for all majors in the college of engineering

#

the specific acceptance rate for ece within that is different

afaik, it’s a matter of selecting your first choice engineering major, second choice, and third

at some point you will be asked to fill out a housing form, which has a lot of info on it, but namely the two things of biggest importance are:

  • assuming you have a roommate planned already, you'll be able to select that roommate in particular (either by putting their net id or their 7-digit student number) - they'll also need to put yours down as well. if you don't have a roommate planned already, it'll allow you to select one based off of some preferences (like do you want someone who smokes or not), and they will be randomly assigned to you
  • you'll be given a choice of room preference (like what buildings and whether you want to be in an LLC or not). the important thing to note is that this is not your actual room selection - afaik this only influences what group you go into for the actual room selection to minimize conflicts

then, you'll be emailed a room selection group with a specific time window that the housing portal opens for you. you open the page for the portal at least ten minutes before to ensure it loads properly by the time it opens for you

once it opens, you'll see every single room available regardless of the types you selected on the first form. this includes rooms in both north and west campus, singles, doubles, triples, and on-campus apartments

#

once you find a room you like, you'll then press a few buttons and then it'll be yours for the year

#

there is a high likelihood that you may not end up getting a room at your specific window, or you might not get one you enjoy. in that case, you can come back at (i think) half past every hour after your given timeslot to see if new rooms become available. if after all the housing windows go by and you still dont have a room, you'll be emailed with further instructions

if you have a roommate who's allowed to be in an LLC, between the two of you you'll have three housing windows - one for your roommate to pick within the LLC a bit earlier before everyone else (though it's possible that they wont be able to grab one), one for yourself outside the LLC, and another for your roommate outside the LLC
