my stats aren’t super awesome (~3.77 UW 1540 SAT) like not bad but not insane + im not involved in any competitive extracurriculars (although I do a lot of stuff eg varsity sports, instruments, club leadership, volunteering, some research) so I honestly was not gonna apply to many Ivy tier schools because it seemed like a massive waste of time and prestige is a useless concept, but i was in Chicago for an event so I went to visit UChi and Northwestern for fun and I HATED UChi but I LOVED northwestern because the campus is gorgeous and the quarter system sounded cool and my tour guide was a current senior who was majoring in anthropology or something and I shared a lot of interests w her and she talked a lot about her experience and organizations she’s been a part of and how she loves the school community + feels the academics are appropriately challenging so after all that I decided why not ED because I figured I had no chance anyways and I loved the school

Yea I would say they are peer engineering schools, except for some disciplines where northwestern is better (IE, MatSci, chem, civil - a bit more than duke esp for IE and MSE where they’re pretty famous) or for duke (BME, ECE). Mechanical I’m not sure but if you’re into robotics I would say northwestern is better due to their collabs with other unis and companies, name in the industry, nsf grants

Ok my understanding is that if you are going for pure SWE UT is probs better, but if you want the flexibility to combine CS with other fields Northwestern has a big emphasis on interdisciplinary work (CS + robotics, law, medicine, policy, etc)
