anyone familiar with Rice housing? do they only garantee the first year?

do people have to live off campus the second year ?

someone who is more recent would need to confirm, but the short answer is that it depends on the college since each college has different amounts of rooms available. The first year is guaranteed for all colleges, and each college has a different system for selecting which rooms go to who, usually with some sort of priority given to people who are more senior. So yes, sophomore year is the year that you are most likely kicked off campus, but in my (now dated) experience, enough people move off campus (athletes and internationals, usually) where everyone who wants to stay on campus can stay all four years. You would have to ask a current student to see if that's still true.
