You do, they just might not count for much. A lot of my AP credit just fills out the 120 credit hour graduation requirement, whereas others fill out gen eds. AP physics, for example, doesn't count as anything towards my major but is one of the natural science gen eds out of the way

I didn't take AP CS A, but from what I've heard most of the content is covered in there. I personally had 0 CS background and just self studied for the proficiency test over like a couple weeks. If you've done AP CS A, studying should take a few days max

Uhh, you have to take proficiency exams for all of the core CS classes. I think AP CS A counts for something, but nothing that counts for the major. The CS 124 proficiency test is pretty easy and I would recommend it. There's also one for 173 (a proofs-based math class with a CS bend) along with some higher level CS core classes, but I would not recommend those as they are harder than taking the class and would require a lot of studying
The 173 prof is doable, but most often done with some self-study after taking a different proofs class (eg, many people do it after taking Math 314 I think it was)
