This is the most they publicly say on their website:
Alumni interviews are an optional part of the Duke application process. While we’d love to interview every applicant, the high volume of applications means we can’t offer interviews to all students. The Admissions Office prioritizes interviews for those applicants where additional context is helpful, but rest assured—not receiving an interview will not affect your chances of admission.

That's also all the information they give the alumni interviewers. Everything else is speculation.

An interview isn't indicative of admissions chances, lots of people get in without them and lots of people don't get in with them. I don't know where it's stated that every ED student gets an interview.

#

The bigger thing is that if you get an interview, you don't want to mess it up. You want to make sure you have good interview skills so that they have something to write about you.

Otherwise, you will still be ok if your application conveys a story and Duke thinks that it would make you a good fit.

They do say on the website if you don't get an interview and you want to further communicate something about yourself like in an interview you can use the Glimpse video.

But both are truly optional.
