most GESMs aren’t going to be actually full yet. they say full but have to officially open their classes i think

yes. i think every GESM opens 1-2 maybe 3 spots before each reg time / date to make sure no one has a disadvantage solely based on reg date

but u should have backups in case you don’t get the GESM when your reg time happens (ie if they open 2 spots and they fill up before you can register)

some additional tips for course reg though for you incoming freshmen:

1. make sure you book every single part required for a class. that means you must take a lecture + one of every additional component (normally for stem classes this means a lab or a quiz section as well). you can find the additional parts underneath a lecture for a class.

2. download schedule helper. this is a free extension on the chrome store that is basically a necessity because it helps you make the interface so much more intuitive. it tells you:

a. when a class is full by making it red in the bar

b. the RateMyProfessor rating for each section of a class (this is insanely important do NOT take professors with low RMPs if you can)

c. the ‘notify me’ feature. this helps you get a notification to your email for classes when they open. this maybe isn’t as important right now, but if you’re planning on taking say a section of a class that is full you can ask it to notify you when someone drops the class and as soon as someone does it will send an email to you letting you know.

3. if a class says the lecture is full and has no spaces, but it’s additional components (labs, lectures, quizzes, etc) are not full, this means the class is not full, but has not opened all its lecture seats yet because it is saving them for freshman enrollment times. this mainly happens for underclassmen intro classes in areas and for GEs. normally this is slightlyeasier to get than a GE because of the fact that most classes are bigger than the 15 person cap on a GESM, and so more spots open during registration for each of them

practices during the fall semester are tuesday/thursday/friday from 4pm - 6pm and 7am - 11am on game days

there’s also additional rehearsals during the week that vary by section (i.e. drumline has sectional from 7pm - 10pm on tuesdays)

and then on game days call time is 2.5hrs before kickoff and you’ll get back to the band pavilion abt 1.5hrs after the game ends

youre able to drop out during band camp no strings attached, but if you drop out after the start of the football season you have to reimburse the band for all of their expenses

so i took a class with a professor who (at the time) had a ~4.5 on rmp and it was hell on earth

look at the reviews for the specific class you’re taking and pay attention to what the negative ones say

because i chose the 4.5 one over a 3.5 prof and everyone ik who took the 3.5 prof got an A. i got a 95% on the final that was worth like 25% of the entire class and i still got a B+.

also yes you can definitely make Seeley G Mudd to Salvatori Center in 10 minutes

maps are great because they will let you identify the walking distance. generally these times are kinda right but in practice i would never recommend doing more than this distance for a 10 minute interval given that classes (frequently) spill slightly over time

ie your 1-1:50 might actually end at 1:55
