#University of Southern California (USC) (2024-2025)

how yall be getting yours and i don't have mine ??
Oh ok so u didn't apply
Right idk I didn't get mine either
Wait they don't guarantee you the same aid year-by-year?
nopers
well part of it is bc the scholarship i was on this year "runs out"
ie i got it for 2 years
so now i have to apply again
i guess they're waiting for that to be done?
Southern Californian resident experiences rain (2025)
nah you don't get it
when its 70 and sunny 99% of the days here the moment we get 1 inch of rain the entire campus shuts down
no its like POURING
usc isnt built for this weather
only half of my 10am was here today
flooding everywhere
wait flooding as in like moving water
bc the water level is there but its not like ankle high
at least from my walks today
Nah not moving its still water puddles lmfao
some of the gutters are overflowing tho
I’m in the village rn
huh im at village rn too
and i didnt see much like
overflowing
theres a different word imo
do u guys think usc is worth the tuition
Depends what you want to do there
It’s in the cradle of California startups and VC money, just beneath Stanford
omg slay!!
i did mine first day
lowk cos i get nervous if i have too much time lmao 😭
i would say depends on major but you should not pay 90k for any school
walked from the village to leavey to mcc and my pants are soaked thru
maybe if you got some aid
also the water is pooling everywhere it’s bad lol
if you have to go to grad school then no
hmm maybe i was wrong about the puddle thing
if you can realistically finish the pdp in an applicable area/the masters you want to get then maybe
if you’re in an field where the industry standard for grad school is “if you’re not going for free then you’re really stupid” then yes
yeah im going to law school
bruh i wanna go so bad but like why tf is this tuition unreal
me when i gotta walk to taper for rehearsal
i mean they have a 3+3 law program but you have to already be here and be on track to graduate in three years to apply
yeah i wouldnt do it either
where tf are you rehearsing in taper
random ass room
i was abt to ask
#isp things
wait which one are u on
social network my beloved
BNTs sea drift!!
half of the people i follow on ig was begging for designers for it last month lol
so true 😭😭😭
probably not then
yale mfa/mba my beloved
bruh dangit
idk how it is for law tbh
which industries are like that
nah the t14 gap is still a thing right
law school is very expensive unless you do super well during undergrad and get a great lsat score
like business?
the theatre industry lol
yeah im shooting for t14s
it matters a lot where u get mba not business
undergrad as well if you're finance
yale school of drama is free, uscsda grad programs are free, columbia is very inexpensive if you teach + you get to work on broadway ($3k+/week) while you’re a student
yeah theres also that
like there are some people here where 90k isn't much quite frankly
yea there’s a big difference between “my family can afford it but i feel bad making them spend that much money” (valid but if your parents are willing/able i would take them up on it) and “i would have to take out almost the entire COA in loans” (please god no)
i think my parents wanna do loans
if you follow the sack of troy on ig youll be autoadmitted https://www.instagram.com/sackoftroy/
also you can read the esteemed humor of myself and my colleagues
ohh u wrote the kendrick one right
tbh whole page has been banging since i followed last year
can neither confirm or deny
not bad tbh it's not like insanely scary
gl!
this is criminal wtf
Isn’t the financial aid due March 3rd
does usc give good need based aid? (like grants not just loans). Wondering whether to just commit to another uni or wait for rd decisions to roll out (I CANNOT afford anything above 45k coa even if i somehow get accepted)
i got 89k in gift aid estimated
but
im poor as fuck
Net price calc?
or usc actually mentioned that in your acceptance letter?
Oh okay
its estimated so subject to change? but not likely
Hmm k, maybe i’ll wait till rd decisions come then
abhi this was this years tuition
unless your family makes under $80k and qualify for the usc promise they are notoriously stingy with aid
idont pay full pay
have you seen the new coa
if you think 95 is bad you’ll have a stroke
i mean im never paying 95
mayb e 10 years from now
tuition will hit that
for me
but like
idk
it feels like they hiked tuition just enough to get the total coa up to 100k
like they felt like they had to get that 0.1% for the extra $290
average carol folt move
she couldnt leave without fucking us over one more time
Ur financial aid already came out?
no an admit sent it
trust when i tell you that ive been checking the portal every day
It’s says 8-10 after all financial documents are in and everything seems gud so far
ik ive been crashing out about it for a week lol
Praying 🙏
fantastic question nobody knows

YA DONT COME HERE UNLESS U WANNA BE BROKE
The tuition is higher on my estimate wtf
If i didnt have insane aid id be so cooked
Prolly not worth waiting then 💀
I thought an income between 100k-150k would guarantee good aid in a uni that literally costs 95k
Well rejected from CMC Ed2 so evb pray up for USC
I genuinely think I fucked up my app somehow i haven’t been accepted to a single “target/reach”
Rd decisions aint even start yet
major?
Econ
ah i see
I already got deferred EA
i wouldn’t worry
cmc’s fairly competitive and
i’m ngl
usc was extremely sporadic for my school in terms of EA
my friend who made berkeley early for eecs didn’t make cs at usc which is a way less selective program
^ also usc apparently prioritizes full pay and other weird things in ea
one of my friends got deferred ea and accepted to brown last yr
they still haven't replied to me about it 😭 half the dates provided have already passed....
Me with full tuition waiver
bro that’s crazy
woohoo about time another econ major pops up in this thread
it’s just super worrying to me because everyone gets deferred first off I can’t tell if they like me, and second that’s just so many people to be up with
Yessirrrr
I feel like I didn’t do much to demonstrate my interest in econ specifically
same
half my app was finance stock market
not much like supply to the sky demand to the sand yk
most ppl get in regular (higher acceptance rate)
and even tho everyone gets deferred their deferred acceptance rate is higher than their rd i’m pretty sure
if you're looking numbers wise the ea is higher
wait r u fr
i coulda sworn ea was only like 7% this yr
it was like 7-8% bruh
i’m pretty sure their rd is higher??
oh
and then they take 5k out of that
obligatory poorly formatted daily trojan screenshot
but ig that ignores the deferrals?
ye bc the whole thing with deferrals is you're considered again at least in theory
so it counts
i am ngl it’s not too serious about ecs like
with usc if u had either rlly strong stats or strong ecs u generally got in (at least from my school)
u didn’t necessarily need both
usc is need-blind
this straight up isnt true lol
oh that’s just a rumor i heard lol
especially since EA is the only way most applicants can be eligible for scholarships
o
i see
i’ve heard a lot of rumors abt usc when it comes to tuition cos
they’re known for being stingy about aid
plus like
i think they got sued in the whole need blind thing recently 😭
it might just be rumors tho ngl
usc has been sued for many things but being need-blind is not one of them
rumors are made up by hs students or people who dont even go here because usc has been very present in the media recently for its admissions practices
ppl not getting in and being salty and saying untrue stuff
yea pretty much
mb if what i said was like offensive or anything 😭 im seriously considering usc rn and im js saying stuff i’ve heard
but it’s very likely not true
and it’s not like making me hate usc or smth i’m like very interested rn
its not offensive lol, we just try to combat misinfo because sometimes getting direct/clear-cut info from schools is kind of difficult
sure
i am technically a jr ye
if usc students find it easy to get internships or jobs leaving undergrad
ik yall aren’t like graduating rn but yeah
it really depends on your major
uh ive had my internship lined up since november
for this summer
im econ/accounting
but usc is great with on-campus career fairs and having people from companies come speak to students
i think my mom’s reservations rn is just that usc isn’t particularly great for my major(s)
what is it
like it’s a good financial option and i’m local
phys/cs looking to double major with english
i’ve confirmed it’s possible w the admissions ppl and that would be the plan if i committed
compsci at usc is very good
cs is fine here
im mostly interested in physics in grad school and i’ve heard usc isn’t the best for that—altho the research opportunities r good
viterbi is great with career prep and internships
i meant as in like to set myself up for grad physics
phys/cs is in dornsife lol
idk much about it other than the fact dornsife’s good about double majoring
wait phys cs is a double major
it’s a joint major
yeah
usc also has a progressive degree program where you can start a master's during junior year of undergrad
i’m hoping to eventually end up as a physics major cs minor given the proper credits but rn like my reservations r just the school not being that great for physics and that ik phys/cs isn’t super in-depth in either subject
like i looked at some of the required courses and it barely goes into special relativity in all of undergrad for physics
The list of programs below includes departments that have offered the Progressive Degree option previously, but other programs may also be open to participating. Students may inquire about whether other programs are eligible for Progressive Degrees by contacting the admission offices for those programs directly.
ooo okay
yeah im in one myself
ooo
fingers crossed i can do the music industry pdp and graduate a semester after finishing my bachelors
Yeah and I didn’t need based aid anyway so that’s nice
i graduated hs 23 but im wrapping up ba econ in 26 spring and 1 year ms after
rn i’m mostly just looking at usc bc it’s a financially good option but im not entirely convinced the classes r at a good level esp since physics is known at usc for being pretty underfunded
not great course selections
jesus christ ur amazing lol
finishing undergrad early is pretty common at usc
i would have been able to graduate early if i was in a different major < / 3
yeah idk anything about phys good luck lol
ah i see
yeah i get good ap credits from usc so i prob can get done early
like undergrad 3 yrs
i think it’s like 55th
but it’s ok for english
i think
but if you're cs double then u would also get viterbi stuff methinks
or cs split major
separately if you double major and still manage to graduate in 3 years that is something else
oh yeah
i’m hoping to be able to do stuff in both colleges
Should I take off National merit Semifinalist given the rumor that it causes rejections due to scholarship money
I have military paying full tuition regardless
if you get rejected it's not going to be because of nm semifinalist
rumors are rumors that's it
Idk if u know about this but usc viterbi has a 4% acceptance rate
It’s not easy
Which is lower than EECS
💔💔💔
i think if they don't reply within another 24h i'll email and ask again
sigh ..
i made usc w nms on my app even tho i also heard the rumors 😭 😭
i think it’s fine?? idk
yeah def don’t be scared of bothering them esp if it’s been multiple days
whoa fr??
yeah fair but in order to be considered for regents (like berkeley early) it’s 1k/127k
which is slightly less selective than usc’s merit scholarship but far more selective than viterbi (granted, usc’s merit scholarship technically only selects from ea applicants so it’s not actually more selective)
granted i only know 1 person from my year who made viterbi so i do believe it’s quite competitive
most of usc's applicants are EA
and a solid amount of RD applicants are unable to apply EA because of their major
3/7 people in my major have full-tuition scholarships even though we couldn't apply EA
i did RD too wish i did EA
same
ohh i see
oh is it bc ur major isn’t ea
HELLO LOVELIES!! friendly reminder that if you have not done ur housing application you should do it now bc its first come first served
don't stress too much yall i applied rd and got in
it's definitely possible
Sent my application! Now playing the waiting gamee
Even if you aren’t admitted yet???
you can do it without being admitted!
Where do I go for that??
when do u suggest we do it by
is it free
i mean depends on what room you want
no
i’m kinda waiting on honors college decisions to come out
so i was planning on waiting until close to when rd comes out to do housing
cos by then i should be notified
do u think i should just send in a housing form rn anyway
i somehow managed to get the last day with the last time for my housing
but wait can anyone explain how housing app works if ur doing it with roommates
like my roommate has his housing thing on the first day, does this mean i have to do anything
@unreal mica are u by chance able to answer the question regarding how housing apps work if u have a roommate. like does it mean i have to do anything if my roommate has his housing app open earlier than me cuz idk what the process or how the housing app prompts users
you have to join the roommate group, then when your roomie picks assignment you will be put with them
We are already in a group. His is on the 18 mine is the 20 so how does it work
so when he gets assignment you should auto be put with him
Like he picks the room but then what happens if it is full
iirc
So do I have to do anything
not sure
Like if his is on the 18 and chooses the room for me
thank you 🫡 i’ll email them soon!! i’m worried it comes off as impatient or whatever but i think better safe than sorry
is the housing application even if u haven’t been admitted/even if it’s not your top choice?
no
you just have to sign the contract when they send it to you
yea the entire school has a december 1 deadline because we have a portfolio review/pre-screen and interview process
wait so if my housing is 20 and my friend is 18, does it mean that all i have to do on the 20 is just sign the contract without having to click or do anything
you don’t have to do anything on the 20th
you’ll be sent the contract when your roommate registers for housing
it’s in the cover letter they sent
Oh so on the 18 after my friend submits it we are done then? And also what about like the choices like choosing which dorm by preference
it’s all in the cover letter they sent
you don’t rank dorms you just pick one that’s available and youre done
Damn cool cool
I mean idk
Wut do u desire
From a college experience
USC isn’t just a party school
I want to be happy and intellectually stimulating while setting myself up to be in a position where I can support my family, my friends, myself, and my hobbies
As long as u have the drive imma be honest u can do this at any college
not cornell
Bro it’s not that deep
you’re making a generalization based on about 1% of a student body of over 40,000
i was asking bc of what ive heard of the school
where have you heard that it’s fratty and mean lol
my friends that are freshmen rn
what is with the cornell beef 😔
if you don't like frats then don't get involved with frats
that's what i'm doing and it's a great time
yeah ive been to the frats once and that was enough for me
the row isnt even on campus, theyre not ever-present or anything. you can find other parties if thats what youre into. but tbh if people are saying that usc is fratty and mean then theyre surrounding themselves w people who are fratty and mean
Can u rush as a freshman at USC
Supposedly a lot of hot people
Evenly split amongst ethnicities
yes but not advisable between midnight lineups and trying to settle in with college coursework and responsibilities etc
most people in frats that i know rushed in spring without too much issue
finally replied!!! he said “what about an hour from now” and i said “ok can”
usc interview in an hour 😱😱
yooo glgl
THANKS GUYS
he hasn't replied since i said "yes i can meet in an hour" im gonna crash out
zoom link when 💔💔
i followed up again 😭
i hope he replies in time
🤞
yum
goodluck gng
TYSM
i finished the interview
it was so awesome
he's so nice !!!
we also bonded very much over linguistics and didn't talk that much about games/game design but it's ok ❤️
oh my god
hes so nice
did bro fall in love
wait any current usc students
if u go to the gym
is usc's gym crowded 😭
ik this is a super random question but i wanna be able to work out consistently in college and not fight for machines
so i'd love to know if the gym is nice
i am a regular at the village gym and have not found it crowded
now disclaimer
- i usually go after lunch before dinner, most people go after dinner
- i have only been doing cardio since the start of fall sem - the village spin bike room is completely empty most of the time for example
treadmills you might have to wait a bit but it seems like people hate cardio here
for machines and bench stuff you might have to wait longer because people have sets and things
i've heard lyon is even more crowded than village but that's probably just because it's bigger
compared to somewhere like ucr src or anteater rec center you will not be fighting as much
same as whatever berk's is called
i know because i've been inside all 3 lol
okok
okok
i will prolly be hitting weights but that sounds somewhat promising
ty!!
it's nice that there's sm gyms too
there are 2
lol
but ye village is super convenient if you hang out around north campus a lot
i mean tbh lyon is also right by the village lol
do you have to purchase a membership
Got into Cale and Irani
nope its included, just need to sign a waiver
absolute poggers for u
best spot in the village fr
server rules dont allow chance mes
lets goo
oh wait is there a sauna
im gonna be real with you i dont think any college gym is gonna have a sauna lmfao
js cus when i do powerlifting idk how im gonna cut weight without a sauna
like they did for the whole campus last year 💀
how do u know these things bro 😭
LMAO
✨ magic ✨
you're underestimating the degree people go to in terms of researching their dream school
(for legal reasons this is a joke)
its giving the girl from europe who was obsessed w new haven and then got rejected from yale
...obsessed with New Haven?
Ur joking right?
New haven might be the single worst city in the country that doesn't rhyme with Blehdroit
Me when i didnt research shit about anything
They shrunk the total coa for me
The estimate changed
Now tuition is a measly 5k less
They shrunk the gift aid too tho
real
i know like nothing about all the colleges i applied to
I used chatgpt for info on why us essays
my mom convinced me to apply to umich and she told me not an hour after i submitted the application it was cuz she wanted to brag to her michiganian (michigander?) friends if i got in
you gotta admit that's a power move tho
yk
Real same
🥳
i also got into village, but different building (McMorrow)
Nice nice. I’ll guest u in if u guest me in
your boy is going off campus
screw usc and the new apartment plan
ok no hate on the whole school just whoever decided this was a good idea
Would USC consider Emory a peer school in terms of academic prestige?
Just learned I'm one of only 100 students at Emory who're at minimum guaranteed a 50% scholarship for Emory, very very potentially a full ride, and I'm thinking of presenting it to USC to see if they'd be willing to reconsider my merit aid package
anyone whos at usc is there anything i should do before school starts to get locked in
i have so much free time now idk what to do...
i would say so yeah, and either way it wouldn't hurt to ask but your leverage is gone ish bc you committed already
enjoy the summer
Ooh okay thank you thank you
do well on aps to get credit
uh
learn abt usc football because games start in like 2nd week of classes
and like half of the student body goes each game and you want to be one of those in the loop
If it's any consolation, I clarified the reason why I committed so quickly (fear that I'd lose my spot in the capped cohort program), and explained that I'd have to decommit if I'm unable to get merit aid, as my parents would refuse to pay for the program 😭
so dont bother interning
if you manage to get one then worry about it later
bet bet
if you're applying now you will get cooked i think
na yea
i didn't get one last summer and right around now was when i was applying
tbf the one i got last summer i applied in the spring
this year i had my shit together and applied everything in sep oct and offered nov
yeah
do usc freshmen even get internships
depends on industry
grinding
im prelaw
i know buddies with freshman finance internships
one guy interned at fox now hrs at jpm chase
but
they are rlly well connected
dude thats what im bummed about i have hella connections here just from networking and reaching out over the whole summer but im all the way in boston
one of the guys dad was ceo of hilton hotels and he's having trouble picking an offer for 26 summer
so imma know nobody in the cali industries
thats absurd LMAO
the problem im tryna have
usc doesnt do appeals
obv ca is uscs bread and butter tho
its on their finaid website
especially not for merit aid
100p
honestly no clue atm
Wait do you need fafsa filled out to qualify for merit aid?
no
depends on the market and where the us is at in like 9 years lmao
financial need has no bearing on merit aid
they dont take appeals for aid in general
wouldn't hurt to network Boston then if you want
but overall take it easy usc career center is pretty op
I can testify
there's a neat yt video about the history of usc and ucla football that you could watch ig for that whole thing
no yeah i have a good boston network i js wish i had one in ca for when i start to grind internships lmao
ill prolly ask if they have any connects tho
yooo send vid
lemme find it
is the trojan network dialed like that
yeah it's pretty crazy
out of the 6 interns at the firm im at this summer
get this
3 of them usc
1 csu and 2 oos privates
no ucla
or any other ca private or public besides the one csu person
A City Divided chronicles the history of the USC vs UCLA football rivalry (1929 to 2016). Featuring interviews with legends of the rivalry such as Terry Donahue, John Robinson, Ronnie Lott and Matt Leinart, the film provides a behind the scenes look at numerous iconic moments in the series. The film was used to raise funds for cancer research no...
thx gang
True true, but it's very very rare for someone to even have a comparable merit aid proposition
The only schools comparable to or better than USC that offer merit aid are JHU, Chicago, Duke, Vanderbilt, and Emory
And they all take like a hundred kids or less for merit aid (10 - 15 million given out compared to USC's almost 100 million)—the kind of student getting aid from them would 9/10 times be getting merit aid from the less competitive USC
none of those schools have nearly as many applicants as usc
usc doesnt do appeals for merit or financial aid regardless of what youre comparing it with
Emory has around 45 thousand applicants, yet takes 100 merit aid, USC has 70 thousand, yet takes almost 1000
If they did, it's not like they'd advertise it lol
only about 600 current usc freshmen have merit scholarships of any amount
and a significant number of them are national merit scholars
they literally say on the finanical aid website that they dont do appeals
I'm talking about the amount offered
1000ish students are offered some kind of aid
thats not true though lol
It's even outright said in the merit aid email, they took 550 for the 50% and 100% tuition interview, and hundreds more for dean + international + other scholarships
again im telling you they dont really care, theres no reason to try to get into an argument about this lol
i am telling you this as someone who had to fight with the financial aid office for months to get the bare minimum for me to come here. they do not care. they do merit scholarships in a very calculated manner that takes retention into consideration. unless you get a scholarship specific to your school or major that is not going to change
I'm sorry that was the case for you
yes, i would say so
its lateral
damn
Then hopefully I can convince them to match Emory's merit aid package 🥺🙏
(Or at least give me something cuz like a full ride at Emory compared to legit nothing at USC is a hard pill to swallow 😭)
is there a specific way we can send updates to USC through the portal, or do we just have to email our regional AO
i think it’s regional AO
i gotchu
they said no updates ?
usc doesn’t accept application updates
they only take mid-year reports
usc is need blind for domestic students
fwiw all of my friends that are low income students have near-universally positive things to say about usc’s aid
i miss u ; 😔
Least parasocial a2cer
As long as they have a chest press and a cable machine, I’m set
Though I’d appreciate a lat raise machine
And a sitting calf machine
And a chest supported row machine
And a chest fly machine
But that’s it
ima be real man idk what half of those are but they probably have all of those
at least at lyon that place is huge
is this a nap spot for baby cows? 🤭
LMFAOOO
unfortunately i have not touched anything in the gym except for the treadmill and spin bike
not one gym ive been to has had one 😭
The la fitness 3min from my house has one
lucky
use ur cable machine for lat raises
i switched over like a year ago it’s noticeably better idk if u tried it
these are all standard, only one i’m not 100% sure of it a sitting calf but presumably they’d have it
nah dumbells
easier to ego lift with them
ego lifting gets gains
Eh
I just think it’s more convenient, and less worrying about posture
whatd u do until then
cc
do i have to commit to get the usc email
?
community college
Yep!
thats so smart oml
hopefully the credits could transfer
it worked out pretty good
between those + aps + fl credits i can graduate a year early and probably get masters in a year after
like i graduated hs 2023 and i can finish bachelors in 26 and probably masters 27
can i ask why did u select to be admitted for the spring term and skip the fall
i didn't select it lol they put me in spring

there were some people who got moved to fall start but not yours truly
think it was random
hm interesting wait so people that start in spring need to continue classes throughout the summer? how does it work
the two tabs are under the "Application in Review" tab
no the idea is most people take classes at some other school during fall so you stay on track
i did cc, some people did study abroad
you could also take fall off to work or something but my thought process was that cc was so easy (and i was only taking 13 units in fall) that it was pretty much taking a semester off anyways
if you work with first year advising people with picking classes you shouldn't have to do anything extra coursework wise
ah smart
still thats interesting tho how usc randomly selects some people to start in the spring
they just do that instead of waitlist
and they "waitlist" a lot less people
no different
is there a way to appeal a spring admit, usc is my dream but if I were to get spring admit idk what I would do cause first semester is when those friend groups start to form and I am OOS so I need to meet people but also dont want to stay at home for like 3 months
unless you have a good reason you'll likely be put in the random thingy like everyone else
but i have no regrets because fall at home is way easier, i was able to take a break and do some hobbies that i enjoyed as well as "housekeeping" things like learning how to cook etc
i also took up a part time job so that was also nice
when i came to campus i made friends with some other guys from the church here as well as through a marshall club that i joined and am still in
and i don't really feel like i've missed out on anything
btw if i started in fall there is zero chance i graduate a year early and i'd still be co 27
but i saw a reddit post and almost everyone in the comments were saying how horrible it was for them and how it wasted time etc etc
ah screw them
wheres the post
with the social culture here i feel like if you have 0 social contact every day then you're doing something wrong
theres so much to do
ok some of these concerns are valid
but i do feel like they are controllable like the roommate thing for example
well actually not the best example
my point is though that if you are proactive and go to things and introduce yourself you won't have problems socially like most people say
which is the biggest thing people have problems with here
yea i get that, u definetly have to be extra social though to make up for the past semester
sure sure
they move spring admits to fall based on yield so it changes depending on the year
it just means your application is under review
@viscid egret whys usc ur fav school
I really love california, especially SoCal, I think LA is the perfect city to spend my early college years and I really want a school with a semester system. also since it’s private, classes are more intimate and there is good gpa inflation and grading isn’t horrible so it’ll help with med school. also their public health program is perfect and the opportunities and facilities they have are just as great. I can keep going on but I feel like it’s got everything on my list. It seems most ppls concern is the cost which would be mine too but I’m sure i’m eligible for full tuition so I’m not too worried about it, plus i have scholarships
thats so sick i hope i see u in fall goodluck
thank u, i’m rlly hoping too! did u get in already?
ya ea
yh im hype
yeah im going to cali for the wknd
nice
idk what to do now tho cus ecs wont do anything and i literally just have to pass my classes
im tryna get connects on linkedin and try to start networking
needa get my money up
find some places in LA you want to go to idk
no way bruh i bet 90% of them can't scramble eggs
ik in birnk last year it was like that
LMAOO A
like all u do is boil water but he didn't know how to boil water
lmao
did u do the llc
whats cargar
cardinal gardens
cowlings/ilium in village
which is apt
cargar is also apt so ive never actually lived in usc dorms
ive been in them and stuff but never lived
like
yeah
are apts much more expensive
do ppl still live on campus then or do they commute
that's why most upperclassmen go offcampus yr 3
well unless you shop around
like my group did
we got a place next to cargar thats like $600 per person all in
oh shit thats fire
congrats! hope to see you!
most places you're easily paying $1k and more w/o roomates and stuff
yeah its like 2+ for dorms
some people ik also get apartments on the e line metro
and just metro to classes and back
oh valid
i js hope i can land an internshjip or smth good for my resume freshman year
idk how it is for outside of finance
ik in finance its mega good if you put in the work
which is not what i did
im prelaw
HELP were you the eggs and cheese person??
is that minor marshall
the tuna and avacado person :(
Oh urs ate ngl
FRRR
Yessss
ye thats the vibe here
Yesss! Are you going to admitted students day?
waitt how do i join the admitted students gc
yh
It's just an unofficial insta GC, I can add you if you dm me ur @!
Twinn! What major?
PPL
minor dox
I think I quit checking it after a week
no thats so valid i was thinking it was so useless
Ohh that's right, mb
like after a few days
yeah everyone just uses the gc
It's Kroger brand discord
done! tyy
esp because no one has heard of it like ever
vs ig discord w/e
if yall have usc emails you can use the school discords function thingy
and you could start joining some
Oh really?
Wait wait, could I ask where I have to go for that? I still have my USC email lmao
housing is pretty similar price-wise for everything unless youre in a single
even the apartments that you can live in freshman year (cargar, webb tower, and cale/irani) are about the same price as regular dorms
i live in a 2b/4p apartment and its only $20 more a semester than a 3b/6p suite in parkside
no i think most r fall admit like the early
how do u go to that lol
OMG can i join
out of curiosity how easy is it to get a single at usc
i’m like semi interested but like which hall(s) do that
on campus is really hard unless you like have a reason to be given special pref
off campus is relatively easy in terms of the fact that there’s a lot of them off campus but it’s slightly more expensive
if you’re mccarthy you have a better chance bc they have quite a few singles
ok
if ur scholarship ur guaranteed mccarthy
oh alr
what’s “off campus”
i interviewed but idk lol
is off campus like next to the museum
cos i lowk wanted to live there
until i did my scholarship interview and realized there’s diff housing
meh
usc generally does housing guaranteed for first 2 years. first year is generally required to stay on campus (or at least most ppl do) and then a ton of ppl move off campus either 2nd or 3rd year
i hope i get in cos my biggest reason to consider usc rn is the housing LMFAO
ah gotchu
housing here is honestly awful. my budget was a little bit on the higher end but in many ways feels like i’m overpaying for where i live
where are u at
wait also i checked the website and it technically said yes (??) but dyk if scholarship stacks with national merit
i think i asked someone else here and they said they’re not sure
off campus is just housing that’s not usc owned; think any individual management or greek life houses type
website says it stacks with outside scholarships but technically nms is a usc school specific scholarship so idk
ohh okay
i don’t know and i’d be scared to be honest bc my reports r that generally usc loves to be as frugal w scholarships as possible
i see
sigh
ok i’ll ask after i get interview results
did u interview for prezzy/trustee?
yeah
you're prob getting mccarthy then
i’m wondering if nms stacks w that LOL
if you interviewed
yeah maybe. i’m hoping housing there is nice
Ooh thank you thank you!
ik a guy on deans and im pretty sure it stacks
but thats deans
cos i wanted a single and ik it’s rlly hard to get one in any college unless ur like in a special program or honors
i see
You're able to register on your application portal!
ok i’ll assume the rules r the same but ill def ask the aos after i get results
ok awesome!
yeah singles are kinda rough
in general here
unless offcampus
Wait by special program do you mean like going through OSAS?
yeah looks like 35 studios and the rest have at least 1 roommate
no i meant like honors programs
like honors housing
like bama honors
or usc merit scholarship
that kinda thing
Ohh got it
cos they often have slightly nicer housing i believe
idk someone ik at usc with trustee says
the dorms r very pretty
LOL
i did like no research
in the village
it's also suites so you don't have to deal with the worst of the dorm experiences
sounds cool even tho idk what suites r
The McCarthy Honors Residential College is the visual center of the USC Village complex, with a Gothic-style clock tower that spires 145 feet into the air. The Honors College's distinctive collegiate-motif architecture is a nod to the university's traditions, while its modern facilities and residential accommodations are a physical manifestation...
No communal bathrooms!
oh awesome
man lowk i was hoping to get into honors housing just cos i care a lot about having quiet or space to study
pretty sure you guys also get access to freeberg
Freeberg?
which is cool photo op wise
bridge connecting mccarthy and cowlings
oh awesome
in village
what’s cowlings
hold on is mccarthy close to like
the actual lecture buildings and stuff
kinda
Jealousss
GLP students should get honors housing too lmao
so the honors dining hall in village
WAIT ITS CLOSE TO THE MUSEUM
thats pretty much where mccarthy is
i really wanted to live close to the museum
omg i hope my interview was good ahhhhhh
lecture halls are like south of jefferson
what’s glp
and depending on major you could be walking like 15 mins to JFF or viterbi
should i apply to anything at usc rn
maybe 10ish for dornsife
Global Leadership Program, it's like a Marshall honors thing
And like 3 for SCA 😓
like i saw their smth program from the mail
Oh 100% agreed, probably not gonna even do it
It's a waste of 4 credits, sounds like
tbh my area rlly looks down on usc for some reason (like ppls parents have been clowning on me for considering usc despite the good merit aid)
yo what area is this
but having nice housing and a good environment would make me wanna go
they hate us cuz they aint us
even if like everyone’s tryna tell me it’s not worth it
it’s just annoying ig
someone’s dad told me “usc is nothing!”
And BCA already gets a sophomore year trip that's better than the Thailand one anyways 😜
and i was like …gee
HELP???
Wait what's ur major?
and wanted to get marshall
yeah what major
physics/cs (joint)
i think classes r prolly in dornsife and viterbi
Oh, okay I see a bit of where they're coming from
cos each major is in a diff department in terms of courses lol
ok viterbi cs is already so much better bc of ginsburg tho
yeah thats pretty cool in of itself
like physics/cs x english + music studies minor
Stupid reasoning, but those aren't like the majors USC is "known for" but likee that's the most I could possibly reach for
i agree it’s not known for it fs
the physics is pretty awful
that’s my one problem
Still a solid program tho, esp with merit aid
but u can redeclare a major before u go i’m pretty sure
like
i could always do smth else or double major
yeah i feel like if i wanted to end up double majoring physics and cs
pretty sure somewhere in here i talked about i switched into marshall and switched back to econ
i could do that lol
in like a week
LMFAO
Valid ngl
do u think i could get into viterbi cs
even with how competitive it is
if i was already a half cs major anyway
The frat bros scared them off 😋
Probably? Depends how it's classified
that’s pretty good
idk how viterbi transfers work
cs is in viterbi and my major is in dlas BUT half of my major is cs courses
i could tell you to a T how to internal transfer to marshall
so i’d be taking classes in viterbi prolly
Did you get a mug in your acceptance package?
They do!
my major is technically under dlas
yep
same with econ data sci
But I guess Vivi's major is classified under dornsife
yep
Yeah
administratively
it works the same with econ data sci i know all about that headache
No Marshall airtag tho 😓
they're saving money for next year's ed acceptance packages
also (correct me if i’m wrong cos idk how this works) i’m assuming being an honors student (again assuming my interview was good which isn’t guaranteed) would help somewhat i’m tryna get into certain programs or majors?
Feeling jipped at every turn at USC and I haven't even gotten to campus lmao
idk i usually assume being an honors program student gives u leverage in like
doing research or smth idk
but idk if that’s actually true
Doubt it tbh
so i don't know anything about research here
It just affects your dorm situation
ik honors program does let u access certain labs from someone in the program
i'd wager it's at least a bit better
and ik usc is good about research for everyone
but they're not going to gatekeep behind mccarthy
There's so many honors students though (like at least a 7th of the grade) I doubt it matters
but tbh i need to be sure they’d let me rlly do anything major/course wise before i rlly wanna go
it's something you can put on the linkedin or something though
