Like before I was talking about alternative major as Physics/cs or undeclared dornsife and some people were referring to it as trying to backdoor into CS in viterbi by transfering or some other way in

I was curious if it might be viewed in a similar way if I apply CE/CS alternatively to CS

I just want to make sure its not thought of as a "back door" and more of thats just my secondary interest

I would do Physics/CS In dornsife but I'd really want to get into the Viterbi school either way

Just pick the majors that interest you the most without thinking too much about perception/acceptance rates/backdoors etc. The people who read your application are people too!! also if you’re interested in marching band i would 100% recommend idc because they’re one of the only schools (theres 4-5 total in the entire country iirc) that sends at a significant amount of their marching band to every away game

how much of a time commitment is it

the most time-consuming part is band camp since we spend the week before classes start learning all of the music and marching drills (drumline band camp started the 15th which was five days before move-in, band camp for everyone else started on the 17th!! the band will cover the fee for you to move in early too)

it was basically practice from 9:00am to 10:00pm every day for a week but it was much more fun than it sounds and it made it very easy to meet new people

and then regular practice during the football season is 4pm-6pm tuesday/thursday/friday

and if we have a home game then we practice saturday morning from 7am-11am

If your family income is below $80,000 yearly with "normal assets", you're able to attend USC entirely tuition-free! (assuming you apply as a first year, rather than as a transfer student)

I will add, there's merit based aid you can apply for, as well as work scholarships (you work on campus for a certain stipend per semester), and you can apply to be an RA if you're a sophomore or above, RA's get free housing!

Residential Assistant, basically you stay in a freshman housing unit and make sure that everyone within is staying safe and following rules

It's a bit of extra responsibility, and it can feel a bit isolating at times, but for free housing and (I think) food, it can definitely be worth it to some!

but the connections you’ll have from being in the program are insane

we had two alums work on the grammys broadcast earlier this year

You can send your transcript through Parchment to [email protected]. You would know if you have a department supplement bc it would have shown up on your commonapp :)

i mean it’s pretty chill, there’s only 7 people in my major and our programs are intentionally kept small bc there has to be a ton of one-on-one/hands-on work

the reason a b.f.a. is referred to as a professional degree is bc you’re prepared to enter the workforce straight out of undergrad instead of having to get your masters

i submitted at like 3:00 PM 11/1 PST and it still said 11/2. I think they use a UTC+X timezone to accomadate all the international applicants, i wouldn't worry about it
