id probably start with a 2-3 sentence creative bit like storytelling abt the topic or a rlly cool research article abt it, like if it were designer babies id probably mention the controversy of playing god or being able to choose your eye color etc
then id say smth like "looking through potential cornell curricula, i noticed Prof Z studying X". then I explain why im interested in X or finding out this topic is a focus of study was a surprise and then i discover like XYZ courses that relate that fit in the CAS requirements and then i discover theres this club called CURB that helps students get involved in research
then id probably transition to talking abt clubs more relevant to my specific major

Depends on your major? I think it's pretty flexible though, and gen eds tend to have a lot of support programs if the reason you're asking is because you're worried about not doing well

Like the core college requirements are very free, you just need to check if the class fulfills the distribution requirement, and most distributions have dozens of choices in classes

CALS is pretty chill on distribution requirements, but some majors kind of lock you into doing certain classes that you would have has as a choice for your distribution requirement (Ex. As a bio sci major, you're required to take chem and physics, so even though one will count as a physical sciences credit, you have to do both anyway for your major)

It varies by school, but overall I think Cornell is pretty flexible from the friends I've talked to (except maybe architecture?) but I like CALS because I don't feel like I'm under a lot of stress trying to juggle all the distribution requirements like CAS students seem to feel

I'm not quite sure to be honest, I only really know other freshmen and a few upperclassmen, but it's probably a pretty good amount since I think it was the most common concentration out of the LAs from seminar? As a freshman, you start out without a concentration in biosci for CALS and you declare your concentration at the end of spring semester and changing your concentration is pretty easy from what I heard, so a lot of people might have originally been a different concentration and switched into compbio later
