I know Princeton is making an effort to admit more first generation college students, so that will naturally mean some schools will get their first admits

but yeah, it's a chicken and egg problem. In order to be competitive, you need to have the coursework or access to research. But those programs are taught by teachers who have training at those subjects, which tend to happen at large educational institutions which tend to be in large cities, etc. et.c

A few years back it was something like, 9 of the last 10 professors who won teaching awards were no longer at the school, and the only one still around switched to administration (and she left soon after for a vice president position). This was at princeton. I think it's an issue at all the top research universities.

Hey wondering if you guys could help me out. Basically, I'm a QB finalist that did not match on December 2. I transferred my application to Columbia ED and was rejected. Yesterday I got rejected from Tulane EA as well, no deferrals at all. I'm thinking to apply to NYU ED2 because I think I'll have a good chance of getting in going that route and I also like NYU. But my dream school is Yale and want to stay in the game till March but at this point I think that needs a miracle. So should I just forget about the Ivy League, do NYU ED2 and have a better chance of getting into a school I'm fine with going to or should I wait it out and do RD for NYU possibly decreasing my chance of accceptance to NYU and also having little chance of getting into Yale. I applied Rice ED2, and UMich, UNC, and Georgia Tech EA comes out before Rice does. If I get accepted to one of those schools, then I'll turn Rice into RD (with the understanding that I'll probably get rejected) and aim high

If I get rejected/deferred EA from all those schools then uhhhh we'll see what I do
