I have a question: Basically I got an interview from Yale like a month ago (alumni interview), but the interview like ghosted me for a month. I emailed Yale admissions like 2 or 3 times and they basically said yeah they'll try to work it out with my alumni but interviews are optional so it's chill. But last Friday I received a random email from Yale undergraduate admissions saying to have an interview with a senior. I just had it today and it went really well, but my question is: I'm hearing a lot of people say that the REA decisions are already completed, and the decisions are just about a week away. students work in the admissions office too. you’d be surprised at the amount of hindsight you can develop from just being at college for one semester. i would rather interview with someone who knows what it’s like to apply to colleges in this day and age than an alum who graduated in the 80s
why should a student employee’s opinion matter less than an alum’s? they’re actively going through the student experience, not decades removed from it
everything in college admissions is about judgement. your decision could be directly impacted by whether or not your admissions officer didn’t like their lunch that day or really liked the application they read right before yours. everything is subjective. you can do everything right, you can have a perfect GPA, you can have a stacked list of ECs, you can have incredible test scores and jaw-dropping essays but after you hit submit on that application it is completely up to chance. the entire process is based on judgement. your interview is not the deciding factor in your admissions decision. it’s a holistic approach

Guys it’s going to be ok. Yes waiting is terrible and stressful. There’s nothing you can do right now to change your decision, and even though it’s really really hard I really encourage you to make peace with that lack of control. Speculating won’t change anything. Stressing won’t change anything. So try to have peace (or better yet straight up forget when decisions are releasing. This is what I did for rd and it was THE BEST)
Also while I’m yapping if you do want something to think about while you wait, think about how you’re going to handle your decision. How will you celebrate if you get in? How will you give yourself space if you don’t? Those kinds of things are currently in your control and your future self will thank you for preparing for whatever you face on decision day
