#UNC Chapel Hill (2024-2025)
3924 messages · Page 4 of 4 (latest)
is it not good enough to get a ranking or something? i got in ea but not sure if i want to go
It’s good enough that you’d still find a great job market ( this is kinda where the UNC name kicks in as well) but there are definitely better and very arguably it’s not the best instate CS school either
would you say its better than the ucs? (mainly wondering abt uc santa barbara & irvine, the rest ik)
thanks!
Just go by cost atp
its above barba and irvine
you could argue if it's better than san diego, but id say it is
tysm!
does anyone know when rd is coming
this is cominng from a cali in-state as well LOL
any chance its coming this friday?
pls dont say that i will pass out rn
its either this f=riday or the next i assume
It could
oh loll
are you thinking of going to unc?
Yes
If nothing changes I’m choosing unc over Austin, Uiuc, Wisconsin Madison, and Purdue
wait what major
CS
I got into Austin for informatics and Uiuc for cs&math
But regardless I just really don’t like cs
I only applied cs since that’s all my app had
Chapel hills environment overall seems better too
thats true
lowkey i wanted to go to ut austin or uiuc loll
but rejected/waitlisted
i thought ut austin's environment was good? idk really
Are you in state for nc?
im in california
I see
Hopefully I land somewhere next week idk
But if not I’m picking unc
😎
waiting for ucs?
No
My Uc app is absolutely horrible
A lot of my stuff is in senior year
I didn’t get into anything above Santa Cruz
I also wanted to go oos anyways
oh ok
I didn’t apply to a single CSU lol
ngl id choose all 4 of those over UNC CS, but you do you bro
if i get into berkely/la im def going, but i do wanna go oos
But I’m not going to end up doing cs if I go to unc
even purdue?
cs
But it’s gen admit and you pick in junior year
So it literally doesn’t matter
ohh yeah i forgot
lowkey thats a great thing for me
i like that
I need to find myself, those 2 years are important for me
Very important
I literally couldn’t care less about cs, I wish I didn’t have to use it for my app
ig in the world of overall program yeah I’d give UNC the edge for sure
For ivies and other t20 I did psych
Psych and computer related topics
To maximize the chances of me getting into
I get in and I’m transferring lol
i did not do that and everyday i regret my decision

Well, I’m giving it a chance ngl
I’ll maybe see if I can double major
In terms of CS yeah, UNC CS is not that great. I mean it’s gotten better recently but eh
It doesn’t seem right to immediately go to counselor and say, hey get me out of the major I was admitted into
ah
i got into purdue engineering cause i did compe for that
Unc stem in general is p good
It’s not known for cs
Hence why I’ll walk premed or something else
Calculus this year has killed any potential for me choosing Uiuc for cs and math
Hit or miss on program, my sources are people who did stem masters/postbach there
I can end with a A+ for all I care and I still am not doing cs and math
For bio related it’s goated tho
i know their grad school is cracked but no idea abt undegrad
I’m good with bio
i loved calculus 💔
I just hate it
It’s interesting I guess but
I don’t want to study that for next 4 years
I aced the act math section too and I still really don’t like math
I’ll take bio over it any day
It’s so unnatural, uncomfortable
Do your own research fs quality does differ program to program. Certain people at UNC have like an ego complex over State even tho State is better in quite a few Stem things
State is better than unc at quite a few stem things
Have you ever been to unc campus before? What is it like there
From all the pictures and stuff I’m getting, it gives the gated community vibes
Kinda like John Hopkins
💀
family's making me go to unc if i dont get anywhere better 💀 i dont wanna go tbh
Why?
is the why to the 1st or 2nd statement
Like why do you not wanna go
Hmm it’s nice, I liked Dukes and States more but they all have their own charms. Really nice fall/spring
idk i just dont really like the campus & area that much and i techincallly have purdue eng that i feel like ill enjoy more
Is a question?
No I was just like
Saying that it is
I recognize that
so i wanna get into a uc or get off my waitlists
Gotcha
West Lafayette 💔
Did you do uw Madison
Also did you apply cs
waitlisted (but my essay was shit cause i got lazy at the end so i get why)
lowkey didnt wanna go there anyways so no real loss
Also I assume your parents want you to go to unc because “oh it’s higher ranked and AR is lower…”
ngl I got WLd at this school, 😅 not sure why I’m here but I have good info on it ig
nah legacy
dad went to grad school
Oooh
Green
I see I see
LOL
Lots of greenery
maybe i should visit unc
I like that
and see if i like it
its like the other side of the country though kinda hard to get there on a whim
My parents came from Taiwan to UT Arlington for graduates
I like the greenery but personally I like NC States campus more because of its technological feel
I only got legacy at Arlington LMAOO
They each have their ups and downs
I got into both, now it’s a matter of vibe and money
Hmm RD could be tomorrow I wonder if it is
yess
have you ever heard of NTU before?
im sure that everyones heard of china's Qinghua (Tsinghua) though
or Bei Da
no, but ive heard of the other one
my friends mom went there
actually wait both their parents went there
thats double crazy
cracked parents
yeah
Isn’t that tsinghua or is that the right spelling
theres two diff types of pinyin
qing or tsing both work
Oke makes sense
what time does unc come out tmmrw
Yeah it did, prolly 4/5 est if I had to guess
I love UNCs campus tbh
One of my favorite parts of being here
Its just so green and pretty esp during the spring/summer
any chance its today?
Wait, the website says March 31st. Is the website not right?
I was mentally preparing myself for the 31st, but now I'm anxious.
Why can't they give us a definitive date and time? Why must it be a surprise? 😦
A bunch of colleges say April 1 and release earlier.
But speculation does nothing.
that aint cool bro
why these colleges trynna act cool
31st is latest date
IT COMES OUT TODAY
???
It's speculated.
Also, consider that there has been an increased volume of applications this year.
literally!!
Could, it was this Friday last year
It was like 3:45 I think
so 11:50 pst?
sorry 3:45 eastern
oh
has anyone heard anything official
so it comes out today?
maybe
oh my god rejected 😭
can’t win anything today 😭
Omg wait anyone who got waitlisted EA just get a decision??? Im so scared
🫂
wait i got waitlisted EA and i just got a decision….
rejected 😦
Wait fr?
Reject
UNC Chapel Hill RD out, vote on the pinned poll @everyone
unc mentioned 🗣️🔥
How did yall do?
good luck!!
Sounds about right
Guys I am so cooked for Ivy Day
me too twin
I hope unc gets slammed by ole miss🙏
Did anyone oos or international get in
i got in ea oos if that counts
i got in early oos too
Poor matty
I got waitlisted.
Welcome to the club
I saw this too loll
JUST GOT OFF THE WAITLIST
HELLO
AFTER GETTING INTO HOPKINS AN HOUR AGO
wtf is life
I got waitlisted by CMU as well.
For those that got off WL, instate or oos?
Ok bro no one gaf
You clearly cared enough to respond 🤣
Real
Cause a lot of other people got WLd and aren’t making a fuss
Maybe your bar for fussing is lower than mine.
Maybe. But your a BVB fan so goes hand and hand /s
I’m obviously joking but I also got WLd but it is what it is like you said, UNC is stuck with Hubert Davis headass
ACCEPTED OOS
congrats ppl who got in
international?
Do you write a letter of continued interest for waitlists, or no?
Nah
waitlisted whoop whoop
I think you just accept your place on the WL
In state is basically soft rejection, oos it could help idk depends on yield of oos
Really? Cause the in-state waitlist acceptance rate is higher than the oos.
Are u supposed to declare ur major after? The letter doesnt specify what major u got
Ohh
Huh is it actually? Could’ve swore the opposite, you might be right then
nah im texan
oos
Gotcha that makes sense
If anyone has questions about UNC please ping me!!
why did they reject me
Congrats on everyone that got in !
How hard is it to get off unc waitlist btw
are u in state or OOS
Do you know how many people get into the program
When do u declare major?
Before your 4th semester/end of your 2nd year
Ohh ok ty!
accepted oos!
also accepted oos yayyy
unc or ncsu ca
ca
cs
There’s a lot of good Reddit posts about this, but it really comes out of what you want in your CS degree
all the reddit posts r like five years old
back when the unc cs department was in a terrible place
intl here
have citizenship though
Well I have a sibling that just finished their masters in a adjacent field at UNC and they said their friends and them thought it wasn’t better than States CS program
It’s just researchy vs professional
so basically the program is equal?
so down to preference w everything else
isn’t unc then better at everything else
like bio n business
Well UNC doesn’t have an a engineering school soooo
And NCSU is better in vet and acrigulture if that’s your thing
nah if i wanted to add something to cs it’d be either neuro or business
i applied CS but my offer letter or heck anywhere in the letter CS is not mentioned, so idk if I got in for CS
thats everyone dw
u dont get accepted directly into cs
but am i guaranteed CS after a year
what are the minimum requirements to declare my major
no
you have to apply into cs
cs and business u have to apply into
after u get there*
in like freshmen/soph year
what happens if you dont get cs are you just forced to take something else
reapply
like apply the next year in junior year?
once a sem
oh ok thanks!
r u incoming
in state?
oos (california)
☠️
?
yeah its just my family wants me too
i dont wanna go lol
my colleges decisions have been pretty bad lately though so who knows
oh yeah ik im not getting accepted anymore
best i have is purdue & ucsb
and my army of 6 waitlists 💀 theyre all from top schools
u got accepted oos unc n ur saying this ?
been getting rejected/wled everywhere else
honestly sometimes the only reason i think i got in was cause of my dad (legacy grad school)
me too i just wish my reach schools would want me back 😭
last hope is ucberkely and georgia tech (deferred)
this lowk so true
even if i choose to not go to cornell or wtv to save 70k a year id like to at least get in
yeah
i mean ur instate for ucb
i even got wled from cal poly slo which is a complete safety
it’s winnable
cause of my gpa
no ik i didnt get in
portal astro?
same 😭 😭
ik someone accepted stanford rejected ucsd ☠️
cals r weird
like everyone w/ my gpa (and lower w/ less major related classes) got in, even for cs
i hate this
ive been just getting wl w/ no wins man idk what to do
they all think im going somewhere else but the somewhere else dont want me
got wl ucsd hopefully i get in
wait u got rejected from ur safety but accepted unc?
yeah
this might sound entitiled but there's no possible reason i should get rejected from slo
at least one of ur reaches wanted u like that then 🙏 🙏
since my gpa is maxed out w/ max rigor
yeah ig
nah ur taxes go there no rzn for u to get rejected from ur public safety
hopefully this all works out
gl on ivy day
sorry i meant wl not rejected
but same thing
Oh hi potato
@verbal iron I got rejected from jhu
And ucla
More and more likely I will commit here
UNC admitted me without rec letter and transcript they are not serious.
yeah bruh...i was expecting ur app is withdrawn kinda thing but it was confetti
GO HEELS RAHHHHHHH
Pretty sure I'm sticking here for grad school too
4 years just wasn't enough
may be committing here in a little over a week when i get denied everywhere else rd
go tar heels!!
FURINA COME UNC
i hear unc is very GAY. very lgbtq
is this true
will i be welcomed
The board certainly isn’t
so ive heard 😞
yes :3
absolutely
like there are definitely very cishet circles on campus bc yknow womp womp nc frats but there are also lots of very lgbtq and lgbtq-friendly circles
idk if we're the most gay unc campus but we're definitely up there
more fruity than state for sure
that's "totally skibidi", as the kids say nowadays
For how progressive in relative terms the student body is, the board is absolutely shambolic
💀
nc politics moment
I think it’s worst than State lol
(In terms of board political games)
And I also forgot which News channel did an investigation but there was a lot of behind the scenes favors going on for people tied to Boardies, gotta love rich people

GO HEELS
🐏
GO HEELS RAHHHHHHHH
same 🫡
all the admitted students days are full - am i missing out?
im going to the admitted students days for my other schools and I don't want to miss out on meeting other students
should i email admissions and ask if they can fit me in?
I would absolutely try and come for admitted students day!! It really helps to get a feel for the campus and its vibes so I'd def reach out and see what they can do to squeeze you in
i just emailed them to see if they could possibly fit me in! hopefully it works out bc i love the school
is unc/surrounding area food good
i just looked around and it looks fire
is this true
allegedly
wtf how do u know lasagna 😭😭😭
never heard abt this, though im from cali
i know that the school board is more conservative
huh
our mutual friend
i was poking around on the unc subreddit to learn more about social life and apparently its true
but yeah board sucks apparently. shocker
oh i played some krunker, and then i joined chess.com server and i played some
lol im a very rare krunker player btw
i have a very rare account, verified too
chancellor promised to help ICE
and they completely killed DEI
so the community being more progressive was kinda not expected for me
oh! fun!!
wowow
most places with a ton of people in general tend to be more blue
well yeah
esp considering its colleges so mostly people in education and young people
thas true
a lot of unis in cali refuse to help ice
Top of lenoir/Chase are all you can eat once you swipe in
Franklin St food so goated we bring in the mfs from Duke
Dining halls are alright (a lot of people complain but I've never had issues) and I think a lot of the like chains/restaurants around are pretty good
Like Alpine & Bento Sushi are solid
I also love the fkin ice cream place in bottom of lenoir
wowowow
should i get the unlimited 3k option
l
I feel like unlimited is excessive but if you dont plan to do grocery shopping/cooking in the dorms a lot then it might be worth
Ask me your questions and I'll convince you to come >:)
(That offer also extends to anyone -- I'll answer any questions :))
after i officially commit in like a week ill probably have some 🙏
Oh UNC Chapel Hill, with your campus so gallantly standing on the island of Chapel Hill, I can do nothing but gaze at you with pride.
this might be a bit vague but would you say there's a strong sense of community
ive heard at some unis no one goes to clubs/events, everyone just parties and drinks, etc and im kind of hoping for the opposite
I would say so but you have to also put in some effort
Like you can completely dodge it if that's your vibe
But it's also not super hard if you put in the necessary effort
If that makes sense
Generally though people are very kind and welcoming so it's not like you have to fight to belong
oh absolutely i love being a little bit social
i do plan on spending some time sitting in the library looking mysterious and nonchalant
I am not planning on cooking or anything
not good, unfortunately
especially if youre out of state
1.3% chance
they already give very few people waitlists
83,000 people
2,200 offered waitlist
10,000-13000 accepted
Take waitlist as a soft rejection
this is like cmu level of waitlist lol
This probably doesn’t help but I think I’m gonna withdraw soon so +1?
Based
Furina sitting on Wilson steps inbound
Nah i’m already sitting on the quad w/ a multi ethnic group of friends playing frisbee at ASD
idk if i even have to go to college and sit in libraries or anything atp
Aura farming in the library is crazy
h
In general how’s food at Unc though, the dining halls
I think it's pretty good. It's not as good as some of the chains or restaurants (I think the quality is more variable) but it's never worse than like a 5/10
I don’t expect it to be as good as chains or restaurants, but I’m happy to hear that you think it’s pretty good
Ik people find food from schools like UC Merced to be pretty questionable
Was just hoping UNC food to be good because I’m really close to committing
I'm mostly talking about like, Top of Lenoir/Chase (which are prepped by Carolina Dining Services and not a third party) when I refer to "dining halls"
Lenoir does have a lot of chains in Bottom of Lenoir which are solid
is TOL and Rams fully comparable like they serve the same thing? Some ppl have told me Rams is better but idk if it’s just self-confirmation
asking bc still deciding between living in north or south
ive seen folks who get into cmu/john hopkins but not unc
unc is similar to ivies in what they want
wishing you luck though

Yeah they're pretty similar
does it feel cliquey? as an oos student im worried that everyone is going to already have friends
I've never felt like its been cliquey at all
For sure
same 😭 maybe we'll be together then if i dont get acceptances from my other colleges
does this mean if one gets into unc they have a shot at ivies? or that it's similiar ideals, but ivies wants the higher level of them?
that's what i feel is the case
though unc favors in state a bit more, so theres that
maybe if you get in OOS
every college is diff in their own aspects so its really hard to say where you would get into if you got into some other place tho
just cross your fingers, lots of luck factored in as well
i hope lucks on my side
these next decisions better make up for the waitlists im getting
😭 waitlists suck so bad
another month bruh
waitlist at cmu or unc is essentially a soft rejection
cant even post on the decisions page 😔
1%
yeah like 32/4000 for cmu
though my cousin got accepted for waitlist so
lets see ig
🔥
my cousin is wl'd at cmu too 😭
Same but I just got rejected gtown sooooo
trust we're gonna both get in
tips on unc waitlist oos?
i just got off oos after being waitlisted ea and i sent an email w updates and stuff
what updates?
i told them about my increased gpa, my sports accomplishments, some of my extracurriculars, and what im doing academically
also told them i took a tour
They already let some people off it appears, it’s basically a rejection unless your lucky
does anyone know how long the physical unc package takes?
@wooden gale youre doing premed at unc right
I'm not premed, but I'm a bio major
I'm public health so I guess I'm adjacent?
Ask anyway
oh
i was wondering if premed needs extra curricular engagement very similar to that of high school
Like for med school?
yeah
To my understanding it's not really "ECs" as it is meeting certain requirements
Like gaining relevant or related experience
Shadowing, EMT experience, etc.
but to apply to a graduates school
dont you have to sweat other extra curricular stuff like high school
Med school is pretty different from grad school
And grad school varies depending on if you want to do a professional program or research
i was wondering like, med school vs grad school
in terms of EC rigorousness needed
i just really dont want to go thorugh high school EC grind again
It's not really the same at all
If you give me a bit I can go into more detail about my resume and such (in class lol) but it's more about experience/internships/research/etc. than activities/hobbies
is it alot more focused on internships
i jsut dont want to do more volunteering/leadership
I mean it's not just internships
Like course-related leadership or research experiences
Volunteer work is also fine
@wooden gale i have another worry, the portal is absolutely atrocious, like it's the WORST thing i've ever seen (connectcarolina)
i can't even login on another device (bypass code)
do i have to deal with this bs on a regular basis??
You only really have to use ConnectCarolina for course registration, checking transcripts, like "technical" stuff, so you only really have to use it a lot once you're getting set up and for registration
I know they're currently updating CC to make it more user friendly because it's old as fuck
I'm not sure why you can't log in on another device? That doesn't seem right
chat did it drop 😭
A while ago
A lil late
I think there was already an RD poll big bro
so i might be a little dumb
committed !
sooo that cost looked a little like hell lol
didnt wanna end up in debt just over undergrad
Welcome aboard!!
i have a feeling that medical is the route thats calling for me
i have been coding for 5-6 years, and honestly i dont think i can do it for a job
i know i can get some job with good pay as long as i go to UIUC or Austin for it, but i dont think id enjoy it
also, @wooden gale if i choose premed route at unc, what major should i go for?..
This is completely up to you - I think biology, chemistry, and neuroscience are very popular, but we also have people in things like math and physics (even stuff like AAAD) who go onto med school :)
I can send the list of premed classes if that helps?
I'll send them paired up with the med school prereqs :)
Taken from our Health Professions Advising site:
Biology:
- Biol 220
- Biol 252/L or 474/L
- Biol 240 is highly recommended
Chemistry - Chem 241/L
- Chem 261 (UNC does not have a lab for 261)
- Chem 262/L
- *Note: The chemistry department does not offer a lab for Chemistry 261. In order to obtain the 8 hours of organic chemistry and lab, students should take Chemistry 241 and 241L. Please be aware that Chemistry 241L is a prerequisite for Chemistry 262L. Medical schools know this and look for it on the transcripts of UNC students.
Biochemistry - Chem 430
Physics - Phys 114 and 115 OR Phys 118 and 119
Statistics - Stor 151 or Stor 155 (Psyc 210 and Bios 600 are also options)
A semester of Psychology AND Sociology
A few schools require 1 semester of Calculus (Math 231)
woahh
okii
ty :3
wait will i get to skip somed of these with ap test scores?
@wooden gale
i have
ap physics 1 - 5
ap chem - 4
i will have
ap bio and ap stats coming in soon
i self studied ap chem like a few days beforehand so :P idk i think a 4 is still rlly good for college cred
No, med schools want to see you take them at the college
AP chem will help you get to orgo and analytical sooner (241/261/262), so you don't need to retake 101/102 if you don't want to/get the credits (although it will probably help with the content, since UNC chem is brutal)
But for physics, bio, and stats, you'll likely retake
does anyone know if unc's dorms are good?
i heard theyre ight
not the best though
you can find tours online
Depends on the building but generally it depends more on the people on your floor/suite
how many diff types of suites are there
Try for kouryif ur looking on scampus,4 person suite w bathroom and super nice
does someone know if there is a unc discord server?
not that i know of
is granville really greek life focused or is it fine to rush and drop and still live there
is there any way to get more aid than unc gave me or do they not care
what’s startup culture like within the cs department
if you dont ask the answers always no
no :( i have a competition then
are there any more open houses?
Unfortunate, I think this is the last one
What do u compete in
RD results?
23
50
3
Rejected
oh
Sorry late response they’re decent but nothing great imo
Let’s see honors dorms are fairly nice but VERY thin walls imo
Easy to hear others
It is very Greek life focused imo
To the point where I wouldn’t reccomend it if not rushing
But if you plan on rushing at all definitely try to go there if you can
This is a nice dorm but very hard to get most of the time so make sure you’re fine w the 8 persons
do ppl live there who rush and then don’t end up actually joining a sorority?
There definitely are
Is parking an issue at unc? When we visited duke last summer for a tour our rental got a $100 ticket for parking in a space that had no signs around prohibiting it. Not sure if this is how carolina operates...
I'm not a north carolina native, if that's something worth mentioning
I don’t go to unc but I’m visiting rn and it seems like there’s available parking garages but most of the street parking and small lots require passes
Parking isn’t really a thing for freshman year
But if just visiting there’s a lot of parking garages and stuff that are fairly cheap
Honestly unless you live off campus after freshman year or want to go places far from campus there’s not much of a need for a car here since everything is fairly close by but it’s all preference
how doable is a 4.0 gpa in econ and public policy/poli sci
Honestly having a 4.0 is quite hard in general unless you get lucky with professors
IMO you’ll get shafted at some point by a bad prof and lose the 4.0
And the grade needed for a 4.0 in a class changes from class to class although generally a 93/93.5 is generally the cutoff
hi can somebody send me the link for the unc cs server I have a lot of questions I wanna ask
there is one
?
any waitlist movement
Only for waitlisted kids from ea
no :(
you get like a pin and a few random postcards
they hyped up the admitted students package so much
r u supposed to send loci
or report senior year grades
for rd waitlist?
i dont see anywhere to
but i think on the website
it says that u can send senior grades
i withdrew unc best of luck to waitlist ppl 🫡
No they said no loci
any movement chat
withdrew praying for u🙏
guys does anyone know if theres a whatsapp/insta gc for people who committed
yep
whats your handle
its for my friend ill send it on dms
Any movement
some people on reddit reported a tiny bit of movement
but overall the waitlist is a graveyard for unc
about same rates as CMU waitlist
ggs
Hi friends
ello
Are you going to unc
yep
Ngl I like hyper pop
Sometimes vocaloid
But I also listen to classics and rock
I just got off the waitlist!
congrats!!
I already commited to ncsu but now idk which school I want to go to :/
Unc!!! !!!
same
whats your major?
for stem ncsu all day
I wouldn't necessarily say that
Let me know if you want to talk about it! I did my undergrad at UNC, have friends at NCSU & will be attending NCSU for grad school
I'm undecided. Right now I'm enrolled in compsci and I know NCSU is better for that, but i'm also 90% sure I'm going to switch majors.
I'm thinking about information science
Info sci is really fun
NCSU CS is good if you want to jump straight into industry imo
Not to say you cant do that w UNC CS
But it is a bit more industry focused iirc
UNC info science is really fun and the liberal arts curriculum lets you really easily double major
Hey @wooden gale do you have any tips for an incoming student
It's hard to give generic advice but I think my big things are
- Do not take more than 2 STEM classes your first semester
- Go to events! Push yourself out of your comfort zone a little bit
- Don't be afraid to ask for help if you're struggling
I'm going into pre nursing and I'm scared I might have to take alot of stem classes
You will at some point - do not cram them in during your adjustment period
You will get to the point where you can take all STEM classes and be comfortable
But doing it your first semester? It's not worth
Yeah
Should I just do bio with lab first semester?
I'm thinking of doing that then STOR 151 second sem
That should be okay
You could take one more spring semester if you want
I would say so
aight imma say no then
they let me in off waitlist
im from florida so i think uf is more worth
or purdue
OOS for unc is cheaper than a lot of OOS prices
Yeah I'd agree that UF in-state is a better deal than UNC OOS
Unless you got enough aid from UNC to be cheaper than UF and you really want to come here for whatever reasons
what is unc oos cost of attendance
i decided to commit to unc solely for the fact that its premed program is so good lol
Just gotta be careful abt the grade deflation
my friend got off waitlist!
Ayy
Any advice regarding dorms?
north campus sweep
Do you have an opinion of in North Campus?
Cobb, Everett, Graham, Lewis, Stacy
Cobb is honors I think
I think Cobb will be my 1st choice for sure, but unsure about the rest
Ya I know
🫡 just making sure
Yep for sure
I don’t go to UNC but they showed us Cobb on the admitted students day or whatever and it seemed pretty nice, has some common space and a piano
Very anecdotal evidence though 😂
Yeah, outside of North Campus, there's two dorms I'm somewhat interested in but not sure about - Avery and Koury. Avery is apparently like in between north and south but it was like renovated in 2013 so that seems like a plus. koury apparently is quite spacious and has the best bathrooms but is south campus
Idk if any of you would know the answer, but if I got off the waitlist last week on Wednesday, and they gave me a week to pay the enrollment fee, does that mean my deadline is today, Tuesday, or tomorrow, Wednesday?
Probably Wednesday
I would assume Wednesday, but I would always give yourself an extra day of wiggle room, so treat it as today (Tues)
Well I just submitted my deposit so I'm officially attending UNC
-300$ to NC State that I'll never get back
Haha I feel you
I committed to UNC's MPH program but got accepted to a PhD at UNC so I lost the deposit too :P
Go Heels!! 🩵 🐏
I just finished my freshman year and did hojo
I personally liked the south campus ones since they were fairly close to rams and chase and most of my friends lived near me or in the same building
these are imo the best quality BUT you have to clean your own bathrooms
which a lot of people dont realize often going into them
Yeah I figured but that’s not a big deal to me. Its because it’s not a hall shared bathroom right
not horrible but just something to keep in mind
yes bathroom is onyl shared with 4 people which is your room and the room next door
cobb is nice but walls are extremely thin and full conversations can be heard from outside room
well unless yourebeing super quiet but any normal level conversation can be heard somewhat clearly
Yeah I heard about that
Cobb 💪 good housing lottery fr
I got Craige which I didn’t even list because I heard it was nicknamed “Crusty Craige.”
Now I’m worried 😭
Rip 😭
I heard the same
GGs
Nice
Just don’t uh speak abt sensitive things too loud in your room
It’s very thin walls there
Rest is pretty chill tho
Ngl i knew ppl there I personally didn’t think it was worse than hojo and stuff
North campus sweeps 🔥
Hello tarheels!! Just wanted to let y'all know that I'm available to talk about schedule planning and any questions y'all may have <3
did anyone here get into unc with a 3.6 unweighted gpa
One of my friends (college co'23) did lol
are you instate or oos
damn, do you know what were his extracurriculurs
im instate but im not a citizen or permanent resident
I mean as long as you’re considered instate I think you’re good
What’s your weighted though I feel like unc focuses on that more
Its a 4.1
How about class rank
Honestly idk but it’s def gonna be hard
I know some people who got in w gpa close to that but wake county
Dont think so
I figure it'd be easier outside Wake/Meck
My friend was from Wilmington iirc and she didnt do anything crazy
Mostly playing up interest in global health stuff/medical anthro maybe?
How's the healthcare service at UNC hospitals?
im in cabarrus county is that competitive
Isn’t that near Charlotte
From my understanding the most competitive counties will be near Raleigh and Charlotte
The thing is while objectively it’s less competitive outside wake
They also take a bunch from wake schools
like in the range of 60-80+ from each school in wake
And that’s only the ones who choose to go
likely closer to 100 getting accepted
So depends how many have been sent to unc in the past from your school
my school had like 20 people going to unc from our 2025 graduating class
Don't psych yourself out of it tho
Like give it your best shot and don't get mentally tripped up about it
^
yeah do your best I’ve seen plenty of times where people have gotten in thinking they didn’t have much of a shot
Visiting chapel hill
Before orientation
Love the experience so far, campus is so big I'm not used to it
It’s a very nice campus yeah
Yessss
I'm happy I get to spend summer on campus again (working a lab job)
Do you know if I can reach out to an advisor to plan my classes before orientation?
And how I can get in touch with a college social worker for my housing instability (otherwise homeless without dorms)
I think you'd reach out to housing about this - they do provide summer and winter hardship housing
Do you have access to ConnectCarolina yet? There should be a box in Student Center that has an advisor you can email
Alright, thank you
Yeahh I do
The portal is a little confusing and hard to navigate
Thank you
I'll contact them
Okay turns out I haven't been assigned one yet
Yeahh :( sorry
are we supposed to register now?? i haven’t been to orientation yet
but i’m seeing things abt first year orientation
i also have priority registration?
so i wait for that? does it mean i have a worse shot at classes?
I'd wait if I didn't know what path and classes I wanted
I think UNC has reserves spots for freshman classes to ensure everyone gets their gen eds done
If you're sure you know what you want your schedule to be you can try to make it rn tho
But I don't think you'll have a worse schedule if you wait
okay perfect thank u sm!!
@wooden gale is biology 101 with chem 101 and statistics and operations on the same schedule for semester 1 going to cook me?
Okay delay chem 101 for semester 2
What about second semester? Could I handle bio 102 and chem 101?
For sure
The big thing about limiting STEM is the first semester, you're still adjusting to college living, as well as the UNC rigor. I personally took 3 STEM my first semester (BIOL 101, COMP 116, MATH 232) and by finals I was nearly hospitalized because I was absolutely suffocating
Taking things slow and giving yourself time to adjust won't set you back at all so I always encourage taking your first semester to really get used to the swing of things and not feel the need to bury yourself right away lol
@wooden gale hows this look for first semester schedule? 14 credits including the individual piano class which has to be scheduled i think
i admit there's not as much curious classes id say
about fun topics
the career exploration class is a must for me i feel like and then im very into piano
but the rest are stem or pre reqs
Is it too skewed for one day? I'm pretty used to the standard highschool 7-2 schedule
I think this looks solid!
Did you have orientation already
Ohhh
I'm going to on the 24th
Wbu?
Is your housing situation okay now?
For now yeah, I have a place to stay until move in but I'm otherwise homeless without the dorm
So I just have to apply for winter hardship housing and I'll be set until the summer
That idst lab is gonna feel annoying later into the semester but it’ll be fine once you get used to it
That’s great to hear hoping that the hardship housing stuff all works out
@dense jungle opinion on stacking classes like this?
Oh
Lord sorry wrong ping 😭😭😭😭
@wooden gale
Me personally I loooooooved doing this
Some people hate it but I preferred just getting all my classes done and over with in a day
Just make sure to bring water & food to get you through to dinner
not the right person but I would say it’s probably very nice for work scheduling and hw, as long as you’re on top of your stuff. Would see if there’s a way to get that ed class earlier in the day since if you’re working it could interfere with scheduling
sorry for the late af response lmao but I personally am not a huge fan of that type of schedule
its really up to you tho
its hard to avoid with the super long bio labs though
the biggest problem with this for most people imo isnt just the fact that all the classes are stacked together but rather that they end up being super unproductive on the off days
so as long as you trust that you can be productive on those off days and want to get classes done at once id keep that schedule
is transferring to unc from another in state considered easier
Easier than what
I wouldn’t particularly say it’s easy but it’s pretty doable
