I'm very happy at Purdue. One of the best experiences in my life. You will meet a huge variety of people and there are many cool things we have going on here. It can get boring at times but as long as you make a good friend group, you will have a great time. Campus itself doesn't feel like the middle of nowhere at all but if you venture out to other parts of west lafayette or lafayette, you can start seeing more corn fields. In general, I haven't been homesick at all as well and I feel sad leaving campus for breaks cause I'm so accustomed to it.

Hows the genetics major at purdue? Are there good research opportunities on campus? Are the classes super rigorous or is it moderate/avg difficulty?

1. I really like it, however theres a lot of prereqs (4 semesters worth, can be bypassed with 4/5 on AP bio IF you also got a 4/5 on AP chem & you beg your advisor). I did not take AP bio so im starting semester 4 of prereqs this spring.
2. Lots of research opportunities in bio department/in general on campus. I'm in the honors college & thats how I found my research. I do research in the college of vetmed though.
3. Bio classes are a mix of super rigorous and some are more moderate/avg difficulty. For example, I found the genchem for bio majors ridiculous, as its a fast-track genchem class in one semester instead of two, but I found both orgos to be reasonable. I found the first Bio class to be a bit tricky, the second one to be quite easy, the third one to be moderate. I've heard the 4th one and ecology are very hard and that neurobio is insane

psych stuff is also >> so easy

what profession are you interested in? most people with genetics majors & psych minors are either interested in genetic counseing or theyre premed

Yes, its harder. Idk any bio students that aren't in honors that have research yet, but the circle of people I talk to in bio is mostly honors, so my sample may be a bit skewed. That being said, I know plenty of my non honors friends were able to get research just by cold emailing/hitting up profs so I don't see why bio would really be any different.

I really can't speak on other univerisites. I know universially orgo is considered to be quite difficult but our orgo profs/the class is absolutely fantastic and they made me very not scared of chemistry. As far as bio goes, our professors genuinely do care. Exams were very fair, but the content can be difficult so I would guess its probably the content, and not the way the classes are.

I know many bio students tend to struggle a bit more in those intro bio classes because of how broad they can get, but once they start specializing more it can become easier but I havent had personal experience with that uet
