#Northeastern University (NEU) (2024-2025)
1 messages · Page 12 of 1
yeah I'll need to do that eventually
I plan to apply ED
and I've done an in person tour so far
i’m lowkey so dumb
idk if that's enough for demonstrated interest
oof
I literally started researching in 8th so I wouldn't screw up 😭
like I analyzed that stupid cds to death
northeastern want their ED yield rate to be 0%
yield protection fr 😔
so if you want the highest chance and don’t mind spending a semester or year somewhere else your campus preference should be any campus
I can only pick between like boston or london
my dad won't let me go to oakland so if they send me there then I'm screwed
alr ahead of the curve
do they just keep a log of all the people who've done an in person tour?
or online meeting ig
cuz i'm wondering how they'd even know 💀
the Oakland campus and academics are really nice lmfao I was super skeptical at first
London is a lot more meh
yeah they take attendance for a reason
maybe but eh my dad literally hates california and I hear bad things about Oakland in general
additionally I heard that pepperdine had to evacuate so wildfires are another worry of mine
Fair lol
yoo any northeastern students tryna answer some qs
Wassup
alr just gimme a sec i got a list
Alr so how much do you pay /yr for tuition, is it affordable, is it really worth it (if so, why) do you feel like youre getting the standard normal college experience, will you spend most of your four years on campus (not like half of it abroad or not on campus etc) how difficult is it to get a coop program, what do you study, how did you apply, whats the housing like, do you think northeastern is slightly overrated or actually competes with t30s, do they game the admissions, whats the social scene like, and was if your no 1 and what did you turn down in order to go there
and also could you just rank your experience so far on a scale of 1-10
thanks
im on fort ill answer these in between games
boston as a city is more on the expensive side, spend alot of money on food (whenever i go out) and other stuff, id say its worth it just cause i love the city, if youre in cs its rlly good, ill spend most of my four years but i might do a dialogue of civilizations (go abroad for a summer semester which is like a month and you do two classes), coop is rlly competitive in cs and you can only apply to 100 which is a new thing ppl r mad at, northeastern was my #1 cause of ed, i picked it because of the vibe and co-op, i'm studying combined business administration (marketing) and communication studies with a minor in marketing, continuing right after this game
how has (or will) being in the boston area benefit your career with internships, experience and opportunities and do you feel like out of undergrad you will find a high paying job relatively quick, or opt for grad school
Even though you were ed, was there any other school you got into that was similar
social life is good, its pretty easy to find your people and theres a big range of people, nightlife is more on the mid side cause alot of places r really strict about 21+ so you gotta fein to find places (i stick to clubs but theres frats if you know people), admissions is def gamed with abroad, doesnt compete with t30s in my opinion but its still rlly good, it definitely is slightly overrated but part of that is because theres so many opportunities on campus but no one knows where to look, continuign inna sec
this is helpful af
im just trying to gauge where the hate comes from, ig high sticker price, games admissions, and the coop thing being competitive but those are easy to look past
And all the t20s hate northeastern for its low acceptance rate but it makes it a better university
people dislike neu because like 2 decades ago it was the shitty backup school
but they got a new president or smth and he completely boosted the school but I'd say from everything I've heard it's a little artificial and not necessarily based on good academics
I say artificial because they have crazy yield protection and accept most people via ED. After that they're only really known for co-op
yeah half of the incoming class is ed1+2
and the acceptance rate is honestly higher the earlier u apply
it's weird knowing that it used to be on UMASS boston's level
like my parents went there in the 90s and it used to be BU that was the best and NEU was just salmonella and despair
💀 neu also used to be like a commuter school like umb
i mean my mom forbade me from going to umb cuz she went there
really? 😭
both my sisters graduated from umb
and they just got some new dorms for freshmen
I'm waiting for them to get a president like NEU had
exactly then theyll get their grt bsck
i feel like umb coulda been so peak by being in the inner city of boston
they js gotta lock in
umb is my backup for neu and I'm starting to like it if only cuz it's cheaper and I could just get my bachelors and masters in about 4 years
and a masters could be worth more than an neu bachelors
fr that was the one thing I didn't like when I visited 😭
it was like a lonely little island
they have the red line too which is arguably one of the worst lines
green line is lowk trash too but
not lowk, highkey trash i take that back
i thought the green line was the best?
cuz it splits towards BU, NEU, and i think harvard square?
i took the green line to a hackathon back in march and the goddamn train derailed
or maybe that was blue line-
goddamn
neither of them go to bu neu AND harvard
green line has 4 lines that r p much the “college train”
several schools i cant name off the top of my head but at least 10ish r on it
harvard, mit, and umb r on the red line
wait yes? I swear it does hold up lemme pull up a map
cuz I can't remember where the third split goes
green line goes to lechmere and that’s as close as it gets to harvsrd
wait there's four splits 💀
I memorized the whole damn line in like 2 days and forgot it just as quickly
4 lines, 2 splits southbound 2 splits northbound
yeah
omg i freaking hate copley
this has helped neu become a better school, and who cares about an artificial accept rate
But i was NOT surprised when i got in
the doors opened for 2 seconds before closing on me at arlington so I had to go down to copley AND I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT COPLEY IS SPLIT INTO TWO
b line west goes to bc+bu
c line i forgot it js goes to suburbia
d line goes to newton + bc’s 2 year school campus which is suburbia but also notably rich
e line has wentworth, emmanuel, mcphs, neu, tufts, massart, and emerson
AND I ALMOST GOT RUN OVER 😭
I figured I had like a 90% chance of getting in but I don't think they care about legacy as much as I thought so my chances have probs dropped down to like 60% at best
r u in mass??
nah- I'm 3,000 miles away 😭
I figured I should try and put my sisters address down instead cuz she's in boston 💀
and for the future neu students ready to board the green line on an excursion to copley square plz learn ur train lines and have basic courtesy DO NOT CROWD THE DOOR WHEN PEOPLE R ARE TRYING TO GET OFF!
college students r the most insufferable ppl on the mbta we gotta break the cycle
but then I realized that my transcript would rat me out 😔
I hate copley so much 😭
i know i got in just because of my parents income. Now I either turn 90k into 40k, or i go to my state school (which is still good)
but for only 30 minutes i thought i had a relatively competitive application
neu confuses me sm
like it looks difficult to get into and their stats reflect that
but they know where ur school is
no cuz its lit so free
i know, unfortunately 😔
i got in ed with a 3.3uw and 3.6w and the site boasts a 4.1-4.5 gpa
WAIT WUT
NO WAY
AIN'T NO WAY I'VE BEEN TRYING SO HARD TO GET MY 3.99 MOVED UP TO A 4.0 JUST FOR THAT 😭
this is how you can tell how easy it is to get in
literally just income.
nah dawg im broke
however 60% of class size is ea, which are generally 4.4w and 1500 sat
NEU won't be getting too much out of me in terms of money since I plan to transfer so much credit if I do get in
theyll get money out of you
oh 💀
I'm gonna get like 0 financial aid 😭
literally banking on transferring the max amount of credits rn
cuz I think I have the equivalent of 128 NEU credits
or i will after senior year
i will admit my ecs hard carried
whether you like it or not, their ed acceptances are generally just who will make them the most amount of money and protect their yield rate, applied to ea a little aswell
whether you had a good or bad application is not why you got in (for the most part)
but thats not a terrible thing, you just need to maximize financial aid, and hang out with all the smart kids
and make the most out of a good university
think it's good enough for me to just sit back and relax for a bit? not stress out as much as I have been? 😭
no chance mes
naur 😔
Wait do any of yall know like roughly how much NEU awards for national merit?
sure but i think that undermines a lot of the application itself
im not saying you have a bad application. If you wanna know that, apply to t50 public schools for relatively competitive programs and see what happens
But regardless of if you get into northeastern ea or ed, you cant really use that as a basis for your application strength
ea is a bit ridiculous though since a good chunk of folks get deferred
there’s a cap on how many transfer
don’t rmb how much exactly but i don’t think you’ll get all of em
like 70 i think
I should be able to transfer that much-
again its a good school, but northeastern arent really worried about the most qualified or talented candidates
which'll still help a lot with gen ed or smth
i mean hey by getting in you can also do 2 classes over the summer
just money (maybe for good reason?)
ooh that's right tuition just got a little cheaper
said money has been bettering the school
tbh malingator if neu is your top school ull be fine
or at least up there
okie so hopefully if I get in then I'll only have to pay for about 2-ish years plus I'll have a $30k scholarship and I'm banking a little on national merit
I hope so but anxiety is like my favorite pastime
Getting into northeastern isn’t hard, making is financially feasible and worth is
that's why I'm wondering how much their national merit scholarship is
because it's very vague on their website
is it not the same anywhere
if you seriously fish in past threads there’s probably someone who got it
no I think it varies by school
ooh tunafish is getting 15k/year for national merit at neu
damn bro I might just be able to afford NEU 🤩
you can join the cohort of half full pay and half full rides!
i get 10k per year for national Hispanic recognition, I think it’s the same as merit
ye that's college board's lesser known scholarship thing i think
I would qualify under their rural area category
wait wtf i also have another vers of that
but last year I didn't get an invitation to enter it so I'm keeping an eye out for it this year
I wonder how cumulative NEU's scholarships are
Did any international students get info on their scholarships
I got my acceptance but have no info regarding scholarships
Yeah something like that
Not sure if that’s their baseline national merit amount
But I had another scholarship before and then they increased the amount and called it “northeastern merit scholarship”
Idk what the breakdown is exactly
But on the optimistic side, could be 15k for you as well
whens the latest someones got their financial aid letter?
already committed to neu but how good are they with ap credits? just wondering cuz i know it depends on school
they cap it at 8 ap classes
I looked it up and they said a max of 32 credits and I assume its 4 credits per class
oh alr thanks that’s not too bad
yeap
nvm it was a mistake on their part lmao i EAd
but im changing it to ED2, is ED2 the same as EA on a rolling basis?
neither are rolling
ED2 is where most deferred people apply
so if you get deferred from EA but are committed to attending you can still ED2
i got an email this morning from northeastern
cuz ea was due in nov
let me copy and paste a portion
“Thank you for your email and application to Northeastern. We understand your disappointment after receiving a deferral decision at this time. We sincerely appreciate your interest in Northeastern, as demonstrated by submitting an Early Decision application.
To help explain the decision of deferral in this applicant pool, please note that this year we received an increase in both the number and competitiveness of our Early Decision applications, and we were unable to offer admission to many qualified applicants. Applicants were deferred if it was determined that additional time or information was needed to make a final decision.”
it’s basically the same email they sent last year
probably defer more
i don’t know how much they accept tho off that defer list
waittt why’d they send that to u
did u submit your loci already?
they double replied to my email
i asked if it was better to submit a loci through the portal or through email
and then they replied to the same one again
but with that
ahh thanks dawg
What does northeastern look at exactly? They don’t have a supplemental AND they are test optional,
And how selective are they truthfully
I applied EA btw lol
I keep hearing mixed stuff like how they accept a ton of people and have a high yield rate
they look at your grades and ECs
demonstrated interest
they're not selective
their overall acceptance rate is like
in the 20s
only because they keep on getting more and more applicants but can only accept so many people
they also do yield protection btw
What’s that
it's basically when they reject people who are more qualified
bc they think the student will commit to a better school even if they get accepted here
ykwim
Ohhh wait I heard about that too
When do EA results typically come out
Are they like gradually or do they come out all at once
They typically come out annually
so bro js got an early acceptance
LMFAO
If I don’t have a sat score that’s above the middle 50% range, is it better for me to do test optional ?
honestly it doesn’t matter tm
if it falls within the middle 50 being above that vs within the range isnt that big of a difference
is neu hard to get into
not at all
Ngl I think I will just do test optional
i heard they defer hella
whats your SAT score
heard wrong
☠️
1410
i think january 31 last cycle 💀
to an extent yeah
before feb 15 no
re this
sent it, one of their merit scholarships goes to people witj a 1250+ SAT score
wait wut? really?
look on their website
Oh
national merit?
Wtf I had a 1250+ (1290) 😭 should I have submitted it
Yeah
3.9 unweighted and 4.4 weighted
idk it doesn't really list its requirements online
when does Ea come out
whatever money they give you they give you
i didnt get fucking anything so im probably gonna have to pull out of my ED agreement
which sucks
that's why i was worried about eding neu cuz ik it hella expensive
I swear I need to get into this school or any other fucking school outside of my state or I’m cooked
did yall know about raise me?
its not hard to pull out, i just thought they would be reasonable
you dont
cuz raise me can get you up to a 40k scholarship to neu give or take
do you mind sharing your sai
i applied test optional
oh
idk what that is
💀
My parents are control freaks I’m gonna lose my mind if I stay in this house any longer, love them but bffr 😭
saaaaaaame
I've been prepping for neu since like 9th for that reason
idk but its not good
literally been collecting college credits like pokemon so that I can transfer as much as possible and I've been collecting scholarships on raise.me
did u submit css
and I studied my ass off for two weeks so i can qualify at national merit
for neu with idoc
Frrr
did u have a fee waiver for css?
oh al
Same here lol
the fact that i got no merit is not a good thing
Since you applied test optional what do you think made your app stand out
im gonna be honest, the way they take in ed applicants is solely based on income. They only want students who have high income so they can pay for a high tuition. I had a good application, but thats not why I got in.
. They wanna protect their yield rate
someone told me earlier that only like 27% of people actually applied not test optional 😭
someone got 82k tho
Damn what 😭
That’s crazy
that 8k will still be expensive for them, also that protects their yield rate
unfortunately true. For ea and rd tho, you have to stand out
Ahh ok 👍
can you clarify, is the 8k how much they pay a year?
Look im not judging anyone else who got in ED, but getting in ed doesnt mean anything
i dont' know much about fin aid
Yes
brother what are you saying
90k sticker price
Its true 💀
oh boy
This school drives me nuts
northeastern is hella scholarship friendly
Im not gonna hate on northeastern for trying to protect their yield rate but thats just the way it is. Atleast for the most part.
it's more finaid favorable to kids who apply ED
For merit they didnt give me anything. Especially when I need the money
merit is based on your GPA and grades
nothing else
admissions decides if you get merit scholarships
not financial aid office
but for a school with a $90k sticker price, i would expect atleast a little bit of merit
Regardless of grades
fin aid office is the admissions office ong
i contacted them asking for a reevaluation for merit scholarships because there was an error on a transcript but they still said no
it'd be much easier to do so if they actually had supplementals
kinda frustruated tha they dont
would like a 3.98 or 3.99 gpa potentially hurt your chances at a merit scholarship?
thats unfortunate
if they had supplementals then they wouldn't get as much applicants as they do now
why do you think their acceptance rate is so low lmfao
no it won't
yeah that's 100% the case, they want to manipulate it rip
ok sweet 😌
They make it free too to help them boost their artificial acceptance rate
you can always appeal for more fin aid anyways
clout is clout though
i hear that never really works out tho
people just wanna say they go to a 5-10% accceptance rate school
Im gonna do everything I can for money before I pull out of ED, but im very likely not gonna meet what I need
some cases that it doesn't work
i mean because it's ed they'll definetly work with you to help you
no fr tho 💀
my sister was a nurse in the boston area and she said that the neu kids were just arrogant and borderline a bit stupid
good luck o7
can agree
LOL
theyll let me pullout easily
thanks
i mean statistically they're quite literally the definition of mid, because all the bad students get rejected and the overqualified ones get in to better schools
They are, the admissions doesnt let in the actual qualified candidates
no shade on anyone who got in

Yeah
I mean im sure you had to meet some threshold to get in
I should try applying to BU ea or ed 2 just to see if they'd accept me
why 😭
Apply to bu because their a better school and they have a real admissions
that sounds like a terrible idea
its sooooooooooooo expensive tho
?????
i forgot her reasoning exactly but she didn't want the stress that came with those schools
ykwim
brow hat
ye but they're more expensive and don't have as much of a priority on co ops i think
my dad went to BU and he said that he honestly prefers NEU
co ops is pretty nice tho ngl
even tho neu was shitty back in the day
Youre preference
northeastern is a good school if you look past all the stupid shit they do
I dont wanna throw any shade on northeastern, its a good school, thats why I ED’ed, but only go if they give you a good amount of money
yeah. Still overrated, but sure
I like the campus of NEU better and BU doesn't seem as stand out
the faculty all come from great schools and you get a lot of opportunities to expand your connections and do research
yeah but is it's rep that good?
I'm only committing cuz I'll probs only have to do like two years 💀
wdym
doesn't it have a scummy reputation despite how good of a school it is
because of all the shit they do
because I'm gonna transfer the maximum credits possible-
unfortunately
CS majors make six figures out of northeastern
hard to look past it when it's so blatant
A lot of schools do it, northeastern just does it a LOT
i like it here despite all the shit they pull
I have college credit from AP, one community college, and one four year university-
they'll have to accept some of it
neu?
yeah
besides the artificial acceptance rate and being a former commuter school, its fantastix
Their cs program is t30 lmao
what shit do they do?
I've heard of their bad rep from the 90s but I thought they were pretty pristine rn?
manipulate rankings acceptance rates all to make their school look better
ohhhhhhhhh that
granted it's a good school idk why they still do this
we're still 54th
probs trying to break into the t50
like i feel like the acceptance rate would be a bit higher but still selective
well in doing so theyve actually gotten more qualified candidates
we were in the t50s a few years ago
higher lower bu
FRRR
t50 and going up
yeah so in turn their school actually improves
BU is 41
thats the point. Its still overrated, but gets better every year
I thought it was going down the past couple of years
BC is 37
And its climbing at a fast rate
same with BU
Its not idk who told you that
our ranking has been down bc a lot of kids graduate in 5 years instead of 4
Steady incline
bc of co-ops
For pre med, do you think northeastern would be good due to co-ops
what's your opinon on coops
they are paid tho
i mean if they were t50 a couple years ago but only like 54 now then it's not actively going up
Absolutely
they're fantastic
good for resume?
you pay the school back through summer classes
can you only do them once or no
yeap
54 according to us news but as a school, steadily increasing
Literally the co-ops are the only reason why I even applied EA
That and because it’s in Boston
not necessarily; its a bit free applying ed im afraid
Even though the city of Boston is hella expensive
You got in with a 3.3 gpa 💀
Its free regardless who cares
i mean you can always try and commute in from the suburbs 😭
or more likely- i'ma beg my sister to let me stay in her condo and pay her rent 💀
but im not rich either 💀
3.3 isn’t that bad but for a schools that’s supposedly supposed to have an acceptance rate lower than Hopkins, that’s insane
doesnt matter, youre gonna pay a hefty price. Thats what theyre looking for
Especially since they have no supplementals
absolutely, artificial acceptance rate
who'd wanna go to hopkins?
baltimore is my make or break 💀
i love boston
the actual acceptance rate is closer to 20-30s only because of how many applicants they receive each year
i love all of boston except for copley
Erm that was my ED school 💀 but also my parents made me do it cause it’s close to home
see this makes sense
Not “especially”, that makes it less insane
They deliberately deflate their rate by making it easy to apply (they also emailed fee waivers to pretty much everyone)
bc prior to the 5 7% chaos it was around 18-25%
Not much of a school I even wanna go to
and it's going to go. down with more applicants
i'd rather die than live in baltimore- probs cuz I would die if I lived in baltimore
but do you wanna know why they accept the people they do and reject they people they dont
$$$
True that
for clarification, it is unweighted and my school is a feeder so chances are this is not what is in my record on their end
but it goes to show how multiple things factor in
How much money did they give you
It’s not TOO bad, but I’m also used to the city so I get it if someone who isn’t might be scared for their life lol 😂
Ahhh okay
Honestly these college app stuff is hella confusing
That’s why BU is my top school lol 😂
Good choice better than northeastern
pending but based on the packages other ppl have gotten w similar financials, probably a lot
so you have no idea.
you're complaining about neu's pricetag but bu isn't much better 😭
Applying ED2 😭🙏 praying I get it
It is, much more reputable
^
Good luck
ik for a fact it’s not gonna be nothing 💀
Anything upwards of $60k is a plain scam, so atleast $30k for it to be anywhere reasonable
im going to
unless i get like $50k+
wait you applied ed and you’re dogging this hard??
yeah because they gave me like nothing 💀
i still like northeastern and their cs
but there are some serious cons
that i hope everyone is aware of
REAL
Also i thought i was gonna get rejected ED, i didnt look at the ed acceptance rate which is my fault
so i wasn’t prepared to say the least
did you apply knowing the cons tho
No I understand, my high school is full of low income students and it’s no joke to how costs can cause issues for many families
I didnt, i applied with knowing nothing accept an artificially low acceptance rate
Not assuming your low income or anything but for anyone middle class to it can be the same
Exactly, dont go somewhere unless its affordable and worth it
thats the warning ppl heed when applying ed anywhere
northeastern has much more cons than any other reputable ED school
no point in earlying if theres the possibility of only getting a loan for 2 dollars
ED acceptance rates are much higher than overall acceptance rates - you MUST do your research before applying ED anywhere
Its easy to pull out though
If you literally cant afford it 💀
i thought it would be 30%
well yeah if uve negotiated and still got nothing they can release you from the agreement
its more like %90
maybe to the top campus
yeah
They can’t force you to go anyway if you can’t afford it
💯 im gonna wait tho
northeastern mainly admits through ED too
yeah i got my top campus and major
how i managed to squeeze in through RD is a miracle LOL
if it’s a global campus then u were cooked from the jump
so do other schools, their ed rates are low tho
they do boast that half of their incoming class is thru ed
9%
they all are
still way higher than RD
Getting into uchicago any way is very hard
Dont compare uchicago to northeastern lmao
i'm just saying
wb ea 🥺
🤷
i was deferred from EA
NOOOOO
neu ?
try not to get deferred challenge (impossible diff)
I hate uchi supplementals ngl
dawg if i get rejected ed2 again im gonna jump
did u send in ur loci yet
ay coutn me in
ab to soon
but u could go to our boss’s higher ranked alma mater instead
i cant be one of the bls kids that get rejected bro thatd be so embarassing
all in all northeastern is totally worth it if you dont have better options, can pay comfortably, boston campus, and one of their good majors. But there is some sketchy shit they do u gotta look after
so if i get enough money, ill def go
better than my state schools
Does anyone know if their psychology major is good
is chem good
That’s what I’m majoring in
11% acceptance rate bffr
my plan b is uma
i think my cousin did psych and she thrived but idk
@half briar please bless us with your knowledge
abt what
Computer Science and Business are high idk about the rest
brick city but gets the job done
so is umb's but at least they're closer to boston
was gonna apply to uma rd because ea is a bloodbath at my school
i'm just gonna apply to umb ea because I'm too anxious to wait till like march
ok yeah umb ea makes sense cuz its free
honestly all the majors here are pretty solid
it's CS and business that stand out from the others
u singlehandedly will break the cycle
Another thing about northeastern is in a2c it gets criticism for its shady stuff, but outside of a2c literally nobody cares
wait so can you technically ED twice? like ED1 to NEU and ED2 to BU? What if you get accepted to both?
exactly
Everyone thinks northeastern is at-least t50 maybe t40
the ed2 deadline is after the ed1 decision date
ahhh ic ic
besides, ed1 and ed2 come out at different times and you can always withdraw ur app
ed2 becomes available after all ed1 decisions have been released no
it's a thing decided at a later time
yeah ed2 is usually available after ed1 so in northeasterns terms, if u “realized later that northeastern is ur top choice” u can ed2 and get ur decision a month before rd
probs not worth it for me to apply to BU since I have a high chance at NEU ED1 and BU's application fee is $80
have the app ready for ed2
js dont submit it
sounds smart- I'll do that
ok but this is a2c
sure
this discord server is a circle of kids going im cooked im cooked and then getting into mit ea
i mean i'm not cracked but i'm still here
and i got rejected duke ed
so.
im no competitive application lmao
yeah
maybe some t50s and das it
the sample of applicants across different schools looks different
so it makes sense why sm ppl got in from here imo
sure its a bit crazy that 85% bagged but
that a2inflafion
exactly
There are roughly 25000 universities on earth
That would be in the top 0.2% of colleges.
t50 in U.S tho
in the united states nerd
LMFAOOOOOOO
but yeah i think NEU ed acceptance rate is around 30-40%
for boston campus only
and most of us here got into boston campus
There are roughly 3200 universities in US
That would be in the top 1.6% of colleges.
ok, well im a mid applicant and i got into a t50
idk what u want buddy
im just saying that pretty much everyone in this server would be considered competitive
im just saying it is not hard. In comparison, sure, maybe I am a “competitive applicant” but you have a mid application and get into decent schools
well yeah, thats my point
that our perception of "mid" is pretty off to the average person
My class rank is dookie theres ur proof
stats reveal pls 🙏
i aint doin allllat
lolllll
northeastern yield protection
my stats were dookie and i got into neu somehow
rigged
too much aura
nah he got into Boston iirc
What were your stats
same
💔they just be letting anyone into neu
yall cant be sayin ts without the full picture yo 😭
💀
ur ec's are cracked right
i like to think so 😭
if i posted my stats on tiktok ppl would crash out in my comments and ehatecrime me
dawg u r one of those acceptances
reacting to ur own msg is crazy
ur one of those ecrashouts
i mean that in a positive way
just because you get into a good school doesnt mean life is over
u could still get cooked
like cs grads at berkeley who are on the street
it sounded like u were saying an acceptance is an acceptance as in like a “here damn” kinda way
luckily thats further downt he road
u can also go to like a t300 school and do really well
my mom went to a t300 and my dad went to a t60 guess who makes more
this is why you go to northeastern and get a job before you even graduate
Manifesting neu ❤️
What was y’all’s stats when you got accepted, I want to make sure I’m not getting my hopes up 😭
3.8 weighted
what are your stats ill make a verdict
test optional
3.98 uw gpa, 4.4 w, test optional, apart of a medical program at my hs, did an internship at a hospital related to my major, have done volunteer hours at another hospital in the PED, doing a job currently at the hospital I did my internship at, officer for multiple clubs (highest position is Vice President), submitting a 4 for ap bio, pretty rigorous classes all 4 years cause of the medical program
For EA? Deferred. For RD? Rejected.
Damn okay 😭
if i can get in anyone can
I also did volleyball 2 years, have done like 2 major research projects
Idek ngl these apps are so confusing
yeah i didnt wanna put bs ecs in there
nah i think ur overqualified for neu honestly
cap
where do you think that 7% acceptance rate comes from
they just get a lot of applications
from qualified candidates 💀
probs rd
yeah but its not like they dont reject ED
they dont
they do
Every schools has rejects from ED
Im gonna level with you you have a great application, so apply to schools better than neu
ed is like 40 percent
ur good dawg
This year it was 100% ong
Like what schools tho 😭
Where are you from
i can send u my full stats in dms if ur really worried but i really wouldn't be
damn bro you're so salty about neu 💀
twin lol my sat definitely carried me
neus still great but he’s overqualified, and can def go somewhere better
thats like telling someone with a 4.0 to go to their safety school
shoot for bu tbh
ye but you've just been shitting on neu for like the past 3 days
it doesnt work like that 😭
if u like boston i mean
ive been being real 💯
nahhh u been biased
I made a pros and cons list if you scroll up
nah you're salty you didn't get any aid-
Its all about your preference
Yeah $90k is crazy
Did anyone in here actually get a lot of aid (like $50k/yr plus)
i got 41k
yes smb got 82k
Still 49k is not cheap
northeastern promise
but nice
hey better than 90k
obviously
no uni is gonna give any or much aid to anybody upper middle class or higher
i could never do $49k tho
im not low income so im not that worried
maybe even middle class-
what middle class family can afford $90k/yr 💀
so out of touch
people that save for college
I gripe about that everywhere but it still applies
my sisters got jack shit from umb too
its different for everybody
you gotta plan accordingly
yep
I knew neu would be expensive so I've been doing everything I can to minimize that
look if you can go go ig but anything above $40k that isnt super comfortable for your family is NOT worth it
ngl neu is around the same price as a lot of different colleges
i mean yeah but I feel like you're treating neu as an exception almost, like they're the only university in the world that does this
yeah $90k is just the norm now
BU tuition is similar
i think BU is more-
Maryland
unfortunately it isnt, some people pay half a million for columbia undergrad
thats just literally ridiculous i dont care how much you make
yeah i was debating on EDing BU or NEU but then I realized that they're both super expensive so i might as well go with the college that'll get me with a job early
i'm aware so you can't just shit on NEU 😭
Shoot for umd, uva idk
at least not only on neu
Shit on the system 🤷
Well unlike neu, columbia is actually worth it
for that much anyway
I think even that is subjective
the people in here ready to pay almost all of the sticker price are what makes that system works
^
Some colleges arent right for certain people
any college for too much isnt worth it
the reason why most people go to college is to get a job that can pay it off + more
Umd sucks for anything that isn’t CS or Engineering, my sibling goes there and they hate it
i didnt know that actually damn
If neus ur dream school go for it
and if you dont get a job like Berkeley undergrads?
what do you wanna major in?
I’m shooting for BU only cause I like their psych program, but NEU is a close second
bro 💀
Psychology and pre med
genuine question
So co-op is perfect for me
see this is why i chose neu cuz of the co op
nice
Thisss
its still possible tho. Dont rule out being unemployed for a few years, ESPECIALLY for computer science
who said im doing CS 💀
What are you doing
What’s your major
civil engineering
Ooh nice 👍
ooh fun
still competitive as hell
im just saying
expect the worst hope for the best good luck
or expect the best and hope for the best
as the saying goes: expect the worst, plan for the best
This is exactly what I did when I was forced to apply jhu as ED
NEU is really well regarded with firms and businesses in Boston so theres a really high chance to get one after college
forced lol?
wait if you just did a year of straight co ops at neu would you still have to pay full tuition?
😮💨 sweet
I dont think you can
A full year?
i think it depends
Honestly better than nothing 🙏
Its 6-8 months
i don't complain about the housing much since you'd probs still be paying the same amount if you rented your own place
Did you decide if you’re pulling out or staying at NEU
look at his messages 😭
If enough money, no
If otherwise
NEU dont need you that badly bro
Im not going to school for $90k💀
My family would be destroyed financially
i'm hoping I'll only have to pay 90k for two years and I'm debating if it would be worth it to try and get my graduate degree from neu as well and if I did that then I'd get a 25% discount off the graduate tuition
cuz both a bachelors and a masters would probs make the 260k worth it
Also i havent just been straight hating on northeastern, i still think its a very good school (#27 cs, great campus area etc) but some people are comparing it with t20s which i think is unfair
Also, before anyone commits i think they should max out their financial aid and make it worth it
no one is comparing it with t20 💀
some people do
but look im glad almost everyone in this server got in
its a fantastic school
i do this with literally every school i applied too
i hate on unc all the time even though its like my top 3 school
but im not gonna pretend northeastern is perfect and my life is now over and successful because i got in
you still gotta play ur cards very well
did any of you unsubmit ur other apps
yeah i did
but i forgot to do one of them
and they accepted me but im not gonna go cuz yknow
and ur set on $50k/yr for undergrad
my parents are gonna help pay until i can
good for you i guess
well that would be pretty hard during undergrad
except for coop
i mean the tuition itself is probs only like 20-30k out of that and the rest is housing
i feel like the housing shouldn't be included when referencing the price
cuz you would have paid for that amount anyhow if you decided to go school in boston
Ik the housing and food are insane, like just be frugal
yep it is 20k per semester
i mean this housing thing is required so that college students aren't too frugal and basically starve to death
so really that $90k is more like $75k if u just be frufal
just cheap housing tho.
on campus if possible
saves money
yeah college scurvy
and also so the kid doesn't get depressed and committ suicide- y'know make friends if forced to stay together
bro the dorms at neu are NOT it ngl
crazy that it actually exists
bro its just RNG some of them are good and some of them are actually terrible
we're not even allowed to pick as freshman 😭
none of them have ac's except for like a couple 😭
I heard if you got into the honors college then you have access to nicer dorms
my frend and his roomate live together in like a fucking closet
idt that thing evn has a bathroom
dude they're doing quads
quads is nothing its 8 at carolina
I was talking with my dad about that when we were doing the campus tour- like i'd rather not do a quad but if it makes it cheaper than i'll deal with it 😭
just wait till u have 16 💀
nahh but the rooms are super small thats what makes it bad
idk how it is at unc
well yeah thats how they make it work
the space isnt the problem its the one bathroom
nah man i have morals
anything but a solo dorm tho
u went digging for this
idk maybe a three person is a good in between? 😭
the housing price at neu isnt the main issue
😭
3 in the same space as someone living in a double
maybe I can beg one of my sisters to let me stay in their condo 💀
and hope it's close enough that neu will let me do it 😭
‼️
gotta tell my cousin to put me in their basement
Dude just because you might not be able to doesn’t mean others can’t 😭
sure $50k for someone is like nothing
Loans exist
ig ill see my financial aid letter soon and see if they really do match needs
And yeah it’s hard to pay them back but you gotta do what you gotta do
You dont? You can always go to an affordable school 💀
is the aid from schools something you have to pay back or no
@past summit u say northeastern isnt hard to get into?
depends
depends
on what
Ed not really anything else yeah
i think the federal loans you do have to pay back but the grants from the school are free
The colleges here are not the best though
also pell grant is free iirc but im not an expert
Affordability over preference, im not rich
why did you ED to a school you cant afford lol
I was planning on working during school anyway lol
i can back out easily, but to be honest i didnt do my research and i thought i was gonna get hard rejected
My sister’s friend got a whole year free cause of pell grants
Honestly if I get into neu I’ll make it work somehow
i dont know if i cant afford it yet, also im tryna go if its affordable
well imma be honest with you, you'll probably run into the same issues as NEU cuz ur intl
i never said im international
us of a
Why does your roles say international tho 😭😂
lol
does it
MY PRONOUNS ARE U/S/A RAHHHHHH 🦅 🇺🇸
It does lol
Well good luck i doubt you won't get aid unless you actually dont need it
yeah i should get a nice chunk
its all good
you can send me pictures of your credit card for proof as well if that's easier
I’m probably not gonna get any aid, my family makes over 200K 💀
credit cards are a global thing
also make sure to include your social security number
still, 200k, probably need some aid
Definitely but no college will give aid tbh
That’s why no matter where I go there’s always gonna be a need for some type of sacrifice
Even instate for me they barely gave any
who knows your stats might be good enough for a deans scholarship?
i firmly believe college is only worth it if it’s afforable but up to you lol
Did anyone in here get merit
Doubt it but hopefully lol 😂
?
Do they only give need based
they give merit
i think my income was either 200k or 140k
and i got aid
for nmsqt, national recognition, and deans
what the hell
Me rn lol
no they do merit too
no but did anyone in here actually get some of that
i did not
did u get ur aid package how do you even know that
I was answering dee's question of whether they only give need based lol
if that’s combined then $50k/yr is a lot no offense, unless ur an only child or your parents are frugal
oh nah we're taking out a loan
ion think anyone got merit 💀
gl
Do you know if it is based on grades, gpa, test scores or is it based on things like merit recognitions (nmsqt)
merit based aid wouldve been in the acceptance letter
oof not gonna be good for me
both
so unless it said below the congratulations you got money then 0 merit
yeah
nmsqt is separate
you never know
i'll probs get nmsqt unless my state decides to be smarter than usual this year
cracked
nah the psat was eaaaaasy
1490 is good 😭
My school’s average was a 900
I go to a school full of ghettos lmao 😂
it doesn't feel good enough because it's index equivalent is 222 and the cutoff in my state last year was 222 so I'm afraid it'll go up to 223 😭
that's like every school average 💀
i think the average in my school is like 948 or smth
Really I heard some schools were like 1300
For PSAT and SAT
HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY BUDDIES
those are either magnets or privates cuz ain't no way for a normal public school 💀
This is even more hilarious cause my school is a fucking magnet school too 😭😂
how??? 😭
Idek
My schools avg SAT is a 1050 💀
my schools avg SAT is a 1420
yea das insane icl
Literally it’s in the most ghetto place ever and the only reason why they even have a magnet program is cause their reputation is horrible
wtf 💀
That’s actually insanity
thats help u ig
A 1420 is top 5% of takers
or close to it
The only reason why I drive 25 minutes to get to school 😭
i drive 35 mins to school because of the dookie ass traffic 💯
bro there's another school 30 minutes away from me and it's literally so cracked 😭
i wanna go there so badly
like 2000 kids, brand new campus, a baking class, 20 AP's, a shit ton of clubs, and more fun electives
hold up I just googled
THEY HAVE 55 CLUBS
AND ONE OF THEM IS ASIAN FOOD CULTURE CLUB 😭
i didnt realize how ass my school was until i started applying to college
