Santa Cruz is a bit further from Silicon Valley then SJSU but it has strong connections to the big corporations there and we're a research university so you'd get more opportunities than SJSU (Not to say SJSU is bad, its a solid program that if you put the work in you'll get rewarded)

So Lick in San Jose and Keck In Hawaii are both under our jurisdiction, which means students can go visit them, and I do know UCSC offers astrophysics majors the chance to see them

Yeah, its actually ranking wise one of these things we're like the top UC for, kids go onto MIT, etc and professors from like Caltech, Stanford, etc make up the department

You can check the pins for the exact numbers but no it’s not as bad as everyone says it is. We are like second or third when it comes to being able to offer on campus housing to students (all I remember is LA is first in that category). Median rent wise we are not the worst, that goes to Irvine I think. Generally, you can find housing up here, it just comes down to compromising due to budget/space constraints sometimes. My upper classmen friends were able to get on campus housing or on campus housing

All UCs though in some form have housing issues as the other guy said, and it’s not like UCSC is perfect, it’s just not as terrible as it’s sometimes described
