UF family FB group admin posted the following explaining PaCE. Hope this answers some of your questions about the program.
"What is PaCE?
UF’s different paths of enrollment include PaCE, which has gotten very popular in the past few years. You are a GATOR FROM DAY ONE when you are a PaCE student. Students who are admitted via PaCE may at first be disappointed and be inclined to consider saying NO to a PaCE admission. However, once they learn what PaCE is all about, talk to PaCE students, learn about the few small differences between being a PaCE student and a traditional Summer/Fall start, many decide to excitedly commit. To be considered for a PaCE admission, the applicant must have selected one of the PaCE-compatible majors or applied as undecided when they applied.
Those who apply with a PaCE major are first reviewed for the term they applied for, either Fall or Summer. If not accepted for either Fall or Summer admissions, admissions will then look to see if the applicant applied with a PaCE major or undecided. They are then reviewed for PaCE using the same holistic criteria used for Fall/Summer. If admitted, they will receive a PaCE offer. If denied, then denied. Applying with a PaCE-compatible major affords the applicant a second look for admission.
NOTE: Students with an AA by high school graduation will not be offered PaCE, but will instead be asked whether they’d like to be considered as a Junior Transfer. Students who applied for Innovation Academy will now also be considered for PaCE.
So what is PaCE? UF’s Pathways to Campus Enrollment (PaCE) began in 2015. Students begin their studies in the UF Online Program (the #1 online program in the country), and they take their courses online. As has been discussed here ad nauseam, UF offers MANY online classes so for a PaCE students, it is just a matter of doing what UF does best.
HOWEVER, that “on-line only” thing is not set in stone. If the major is in the School of the Arts, the PaCE student will take in person classes in their major while also taking GenEd or electives online. Depending on the major, if the on-line class has an in-person component, PaCE students may have the opportunity to attend classes in person. In fact, at PaCE Preview, the business school has been known to hand out a sheet with the freshman business classes that indicate the room, time, and professor where the classes are held and encourage the PaCE business students to attend.
Some of the on-line classes are 100% on-line so in person is not possible. But for those that have a live lecture, the student may be able to attend should they so choose. And guess what? MANY PaCE students (and on campus students too) really do prefer the on-line classes. They can attend those classes when it is convenient, rewatch sections for review, and don’t have to get dressed especially on those rainy days in Gainesville.
In fact, some PaCE students take advantage of the in-person attendance then decide to just do the class on-line. And PaCE students have been known to remain fully online once they have met the requirements to transition to on campus. If a student needs to work while in school, PaCE is great. It also allows the student to be more flexible with their own schedule. You want to go home the entire week of Thanksgiving? No problem. You want to go visit friends for a week at FSU? No problem. You want to go with mom and dad to Europe? Go ahead! Your classes go where you go so you will never miss one.
PaCE students cannot live on campus while in PaCE. There are a plethora of off-campus student housing options including private dorms near sorority row that are very popular with PaCE students. Windsor Hall is a coed private dorm and Ivy House is female only private dorm. Once decisions come out, these dorms get rented VERY quickly so if you want the option of a private dorm and are offered PaCE, it is wise to get this process started ASAP.
PaCE students start in the fall but depending on the major, may have the option to live in Gainesville (sublease) for the Summer B semester and take classes at Santa Fe or online at another state college. This again is a great way to get that college life started. The classes would be transferred to UF upon completion.
One concern parents seem to have (the students really do not!) is “I don’t want my kid to be known as the PaCE kid”. Guess what? NO STUDENT CARES HOW OTHER STUDENTS WERE ADMITTED. Every student at UF is a Gator.
PaCE students are able to participate in sorority and fraternity rush!
PaCE students have the option to pay an activity fee that allows them to attend ALL sports and UF activities, use UF transportation and use all of the UF facilities including the gym.
PaCE students pay less per credit while in PaCE.
Once a PaCE student has completed two UF semesters and has earned 60 credit hours they are able fully transition to being an on-campus student. Those 60 hours must include 15 credits earned through UF and can include credits earned through testing (AP/AICE/CLEP) and through Dual Enrollment.
Completion of all critical tracking classes in your PaCE major must also be completed.
PaCE students have their own dedicated advisors in each of the UF colleges. PaCE students, like on-campus students, can be as active in campus life as they want. Go Greek. Join a club or two. Go to Gator Nights. Do it all!
When a PaCE student graduates, their diploma says THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA!
In a nutshell, if a PaCE admission is offered, think long and hard about it before you actually say no. Again, PaCE is not for everyone but for many, it works out and is a hidden gem to being a Gator!"

"We went today and it was fabulous!
Thank you to the parent who told me to download UF Gatorway app. The entire schedule was on there and it was very helpful to reference throughout the day.
Yes, "Florida Days" are very different than preview day, although I'm not sure exactly what preview entails.
There are a few days to choose from and they're in your admitted student's portal.
The day begins with check-in with a tour offered as the earliest activity. All activities and info sessions are optional.
We had toured the school before, so we checked in and headed straight for the breakfast mixer.
Keynote speaker followed.
The rest of the day is up to you to join what you'd like to do. There are breakout sessions and a couple of other ice-breaker/social mixers with games to help facilitate conversations.
Food:
Breakfast was provided. A variety of continental breakfast foods, including a vegan pastry and a gf pastry option, fruits, yogurt, coffee, juice,etc.
Bottled water is available all day.
Swag bags are given at check-in with ponchos inside.
There are opportunities to collect other items such as hand sanitizers, pens, etc.
Lunch was all you can eat in an assigned dining hall. There's a good variety there, too, including a top 9 allergen free station.
I highly recommend scheduling to do this if you can swing it.
My son is still undecided, but after today's information and all the programs we didn't know about, he's opened his mind to considering this more in his top running."

Party scene is pretty bustling, people go out every day of the week bc there's events almost every day. However, if that's not up your alley there is still a ton of other stuff to do that doesn't involve partying.
Safety-wise, I haven't had many qualms. However, some parts of downtown Gainesville can get a lil shady at nighttime but that's kinda far away from the campus part of Gainesville
