#University of Florida (UF) (2024-2025)
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
it just said bring clothes for prof headshots if you wanted them done
...thank you for reminding me I need to do mine cause they want the current members to do them.
I would go for nicer casual but something you can walk around in as there will be a walk through happening (so bring tennis shoes!) I'm probably going to wear my SAO t-shirt unless told otherwise.
Does uf consider rec or no? I heard they didnt kinda suprised me
Oh wow, interesting but tbh i feel like thats better idk
Realizing I might have to not wear my SAO tee cause it’s gonna be almost 90 degrees tomorrow…and I don’t want to iron…we’ll see. I’ll be in blue regardless.
Do I need to submit a college transcript for dual enrollment
Not at the application stage, you’ll note it as a DE class on your SSAR
So only when I commit to UF then I have to?
I believe so yes
Ok tha bn you
Yes
I went through this
It’s treated the same as your official high school transcript
I guess now I have to be official when talking about UF 🥸
(not that I’ve been careless in the past)
Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it 😉
great to have multiple active student admissions officers in this channel. It will be fun to follow the channel.
hey guys can anyone review my personal statement?
I wouldn’t really trust people here tbh
It’s kinda like the blind leading the blind
Have people you personally know read it and ask them if it sounds authentically like you
do you know what specifically uf ao's look for in a student? or is it just the general
I would say the #1 thing is being well rounded
Also I think they really stress your EC descriptions
I went to me SAO orientation with like 30 people and the AO advisor asked everyone who was ever president of a club to raise their hand and I think a solid 90% raised their hand….
so taking advantage of EC description space is one of the few ways you can really set apart your high school experience, aside from essays of course
I’m not surprised by this haha
HAHA yeah, I think she was a little shocked by the response
BTW did u sign up for the open house?
I did the second time slot!
I don’t think I signed up for the 9/30 open house yet (I’m getting recertified tomorrow so that’s been my main focus)
oh that's great! (im president of like one club which we barely did anything in)
Yep! The real dress code is for events and tours
Anyway possible for any UF students to read my CAPS
Yo what. President? What about Vice President or secretary?
I mean they didn’t go in depth, it was just to prove a point that holding leadership positions in clubs is extremely common
UF students aren’t AOs, they don’t really know why they got in
Also, me and a group of friends are restarting my schools art club this year. Does that count
UF doesn’t even let you read your app file
Oh na I don't want you guys to judge whether I will get in or not. I feel like asking for help from you guys bc you experienced the UF apps before
I mean that’s good but you’re also starting it in your senior year. You don’t need to have leadership positions to get in, UF just wants to see that you’ve been involved and made contributions to the activities you’re a part of
Just get some tips and stuff
Ohhhhhh
If you ask me in the future I will but I fear I can’t right now
Why's that.
Oh aight. I mean, I was in the art club last year. But every officers left for college after that.
Because I don’t feel like it
I worked 6 hours today then went shopping
Most of my ECs are from junior year up to senior year
Oh that’s good then
Oh. Ok. Could I send it to you anyways and maybe you get some time to read it in 3 days or so?
Or maybe next week?
I want to submit my UF app before the second week of October that's why
Can you send it to me tomorrow so I don’t dismiss the notif and forget
Ok I'll do that
^^^this. It’s a FERPA thing. One of our other AO sponsors (our director of events) had told me that she only looks at applications if there is a valid and pertinent reason to, she couldn’t even access it back when she was working the front desks on decision day.
Give me about an hour or two and I’ll be a lot more available
Celeste do you know how applying to be an RA works??
its easy you just sign a waiver saying the university is not responsible for any mold-inflicted illnesses
I will ask the RA’s I know cause somehow I know a lot of RA’s
Can I just dm you the pdf
I uh dm you my draft anyway
I’ll take a look!
Ty
@topaz stirrup I send you my PS today
hii can anyone pls read and give me feedback on my UF supplemental?? 😋😋
I don’t mind taking a look!
Just to reiterate, y’all: if Gracie or I choose to look at your statements, please know we are not the ones reading applications! We just help support those who do at events and other functions! We cannot guarantee admission and if we do review your stuff, it’s cause we want you to show your best self!
TL; DR: Don’t blame us if you don’t get admitted, we are not those types of admissions officers, we have no say in the admissions evaluation process. Trust us at your own peril.
@native oak I’m having the HARDEST time finding khaki shorts
I genuinely am starting to lose my mind. I looked at old navy, target, and every store that would potentially have them at the mall
I’m omw to Kohl’s right now to look…
KOHLS SAVED THE DAY!!!!!!!! (3+ hours later)
thank you so much!! i’m dm you
Good gravy! Yeah my pants are Kohl’s and they are saved for admissions purposes 😅
I rlly wanted shorts cause ik I’ll be hot on Monday….
I need to get my khaki pants the next time I go home
We can’t wear black pants, right?
im actually so sad i might have to go through gainesville this evening
To my knowledge no, I’d double check with Gillian/Melissa tonight. I’ve only approved black pants under like “we are dire and need guides” situations
Y’all actually get classes cancelled 🤣
We won’t find out until noon tomorrow (which is early for us!)
we are closed from wednesday through sunday!
Ah okay
On a greyhound right?
thank god not
You’re driving???
Oh
The turnpike is backed up
I was gonna see if you wanted to stop and say hi and get a smoothie bowl
he's taking us-27
would if i could...
i probably wont be getting back home until midnight
if only i could drive though that would make things a lot easier
mhm the redcoach was sold out and last minute plane tickets were stupid expensive
over $300 for the flight to tampa thats normally $70
$1200 to fly to orlando via atlanta
10 hours of driving in a single day it is
its actually diabolical how much theyre charging because im going to dc and back for $350
Hey wiggles. Does FSU allow you to report test scores that you want, and omit others
yes
they only see the score report you send
very few colleges require you to submit every single score/attempt
Hm I see. Is it the same where you send official score report if you commit? And do they allow score choice (I don't see that on their website)
uhhh i just self reported on portal, they had my official from an exam sent to them before i applied
Wait what
wdym what
Send official report during app
i didn’t since they had my april act on file from junior year
i think you just self report for the application???
wtf. Why did they have your scores even tho you didn't send them. Or did you just have them in sent scores when you regaisyred fir the SAT
i sent them a free score send in april 2023
Ah...
so they were sent just before application
Applicants are considered for both summer and fall terms at UF right
Yes. You are not guaranteed the season you apply for but your preference is taken into account when grouping students who will be admitted
Ah I see. Ok. Thank you. And for UF, can I choose the test scores that I want to submit
Yep if you’re self reporting, but all the AOs will see is your superscores
I see thank you
How should I, hmmm, approach UF's one supplement
Straight forward or write a story
Like the PS
However you feel will best answer the prompt in a way that sounds authentically like your voice!
Oh ok
i have to go to class friday? shouldve picked literally anything else
Heh. Talk to your prof if you plan to evacuate or don’t have power or whatever.
Yeah… I’m sorta thinking that they’ll cancel on Friday too
wishful thinking perhaps
They won’t 🤣
It’s so silly for the people who want to go home because they’re screwed if they have a Friday class
Depends on your prof’s temperament. Sometimes they don't want to drive the roads either.
True
When you submit super scores will they see the lower scores of the both you submit?
From what I remember, no
Hi. Just asking if you have time to review my PS today
UF canceled Friday classes
This is why UF is a top public school 🙏
On their brochure they said "#1 best public school in the nation, not to brag". I knew at that moment UF is a goated school
they cant say that anymore teehee
they got mogged by FIU
not even #1 school in florida let alone country
Dang.
What ranking is that anyway
WSJ
would anybody be willing to read my uof essay pls
i wrote about the most important thing to me
but
im not sure if its what the college is looking for
Advice: if it were thrown into a pile of other essays and none had names on them, could your friend pick it out of the pile and tell it was you just by reading it?
Also for those who I said I'd read PS’s for…hurricanes are fun but the fatigue is real.
ya i totally think so
would u want to read it if u have time?
You can send it my way, I’ll take a look when I can
bet bet tysm
does uof have good interning opportunities cus i heard gainseville is kinda in the middle of nowhere
What field would you be looking at interning in? I've done two internships during college (albeit both in Orlando)
law like i wanna do an internship with the da at some point but primarily middle-big law
a ton
uf has a great program, although I can’t speak on its internship opportunities
I know that if you maintain a 3.9 GPA or higher for undergrad you can get autoadmitted to UF Law
and UF Law is great
Depends on the major for sure
Most pre-law students are in the college of journalism and comm
im thinking poli sci with a minor in english
^ which has journalism, ad, pr, and mpmt (? Idk the acronym)
so they’re fairly easy majors
I have a friend who did poli sci at uf a few years back and he said it was a relatively easy major
okok thats good tysm
Our most recent former SAO president just went into UF Law
is it easier to get into summer fsu?
yes, the middle 50% sat scores are lower than fall
would u reccomend i apply to fsu regular or summer if i have a 1410
that would put you in top 25% of scores for summer!
i applied summer with a 35 ACT, its a fun experience
got acclimated to campus and made a couple friends early on
made fall movein a breeze
also you get to sign up for fall classes earlier since you choose them at the same time at summer orientation in late may so i got all the classes i wanted this semester
is there any downside?
your summer is a bit shorter? but thats about it
Does anyone here know about uf online?
Somewhat, what’s your question?
Does UF or FSU have their own separate financial aid app
Make sure to fill out the FAFSA, and if you are a Florida resident, the FFA (this is what would qualify you for Bright Futures)
FFAA
i filled it out in uhh january? i don’t know when it opens
Does that only apply to Florida schools?
Say, Gracie. Do you consider Jacksonville a city with less opportunity for high schoolers than other cities
its the florida financial aid application, so...
yes
its main use to you is that its how you get bright futures moneyu
as a non-jacksonvillain, no
Oh. It's for bright futures. Then na Ima not worry ab it until my counselor introduces it to us
How. For me I don't see much. Especially research.
The only place for that is Mayo Clinic. And they only accept like 20 students through their summer program
And some of them, god I hate it, got through bc their parents worked there
im in accounting, jacksonville has a strong finance sector
Oh. Well, wb for high schoolers who what's to go into medicine
So far, the only thing big is just career programs where they introduce you and stuff
i dont much about med opportunities but like... major cities all have multiple major hospitals?
Oh and yeah you can volunteer too
so yeah it doesnt stand out in any way in that regard
Our biggest is Mayo Clinic
hmm
jax is a fake city
at least you're like an hour or two away from tampa/orlando and maybe like 4-5 from south FL
ok tbf it's about as big as cleveland/cincinati/columbus, and bigger than places like milwaukee or the research triangle
Wdym by fake?
I mean, the city is kinda "hooded"
Someone literally got shot outside my school just 2 weeks ago

So ig fake
the city "has" 1 million people but most of it is just suburb that was incorporated into jacksonville
the actual city is much smaller
That's true
The downtown area
they include all of duval
so you have an interesting case where jax/duval county is nearly a 1000 sqmi and has ~900k residents, while miami is 49 sqmi and has ~500k residents
there's a clear difference
Reminds me of my own city where it's technically part of LA but doesn't have LA culture at all
ima guess ontario
Ontario is NOT in cali 😭
ontario CA
it was settled by someone from ontario
like inland empire/san bernardino/temecula area
crazy to think three UCs, caltech, USC, all the pomonas, csulb, etc are right here
Well you did like screenshot a big area so
fair
not at all, it’s huge
Like medical and research opportunities
for medical? no
jax has some of the best hospitals in the state
Idk specifically but I’d assume there are tons of opportunities for students
That's what I'm saying
Jax lacks the medical opportunities like Bay Area or NYU has
Oh well
Mayo Clinic is amazing
I mean if that’s what you’re comparing it to lol
But those are like … the highest bars
What kind of oppurt is Jax good for anyway
I could see law
And finance
thats kinda a vague question
is this for a question or are you trying to include it in a statement?
Question?
like are you being asked in your application about lack of opportunity or something or are you trying to add that yourself?
Not really. Just wondering what opportunities I could have gotten if I tried in my freshmen and sophomore year
Or Junior year
No professors would take me as a research intern
I emailed JU, UNF, FCSJ.
yeah i cant speak from a medical standpoint. i interned in jax in hs but nothing research-like.
i guess it might be tough since youre almost in college so they might just choose to pick people from their own college. cant say for sure.
i guess if you want something you can just try applying to anything even remotely medical related, even if its not research, just to have that interest show up on your resume
Intern wherev
I emailed them at the beginning of junior year
Ig mainly cause not many of them was interested or don't teach my project ideas
oh i unfortunately cant say that. just a tad bit too close to personal info tbh
oh wait I meant like what. What did you intern as
A helper or researcher or
i worked on computer networking for some company. not anything major but looked good on a resume
Ah nice.
Wait... maybe I do know what you're talking about. Except I worked something different. But maybe I'm just wrong
wym
Was it a program or na
wym program?
That you intern in
i dont believe so under how im thinking. if you wanna dm what youre thinking of i can confirm/deny
I
Ok
Dm you
HAHAHAHAHHAHA
tampa is not an hour or two away dawg
minimum 3 hours from jax to tampa
kinda crazy because ontario airport
Wiggle is not wrong on that count, having lived in Tampa. Gainesville is two hours from Tampa, not JAX
I don’t touch the airs silly!
See the funny part is that I knew Ontario airport existed from a transit video
But
Yk
mb
i’m from the south i wouldn’t know
It is (if you can bear I-4)
law, finance, premed, prevet
what the heck uf jax meet up
Pre-med?
Where pre-med opportunities at
girl im a pr major
idk I’ve seen ppl get involved w Mayo Clinic
Yeah but that's the only one I've seen so far. The SPARKS program. Idk what else Mayo offers besides volunteering
PR?
One of the co-Directors for Sparks has been a friend for a while, he was telling me how competitive it was this year due to the amount of apps
I see. Don't forget the kids who also got in bc their parents worked there (I know one of them)
Sparks is a student org, not a university thing…
Unless you’re talking about Mayo (which I was not referring to, but it goes to show connections and networking are worth it)
Oh. Yeah I was talking about Mayo
Idk, im not premed (or at all related) so idk much other than what ive seen premed jax people do
public relations
Like, at UF or at Jax
If it's at Jax I gotta know what they do
How do I answer the meaningful activity one? It's an activity that's been going on for 3 years so do I just describe it chronologically or like a specific snapshot?
I meant jax
I know one premed girl but all that ik she’s done is mayo clinic
but like idk her activities in depth
what i did is i described why my favorite activity was meaningful to me
I talked about volunteering at an animal shelter and how the experience was meaningful to me because i felt like i was making a genuine impact, even though it was on a small scale
for reference, I applied as a marketing major and the activity i wrote about had nothing to do with my intended major
it’s to see your personality beyond the 150 character EC description limit
I just don't know how to describe my activity because it's something I started in sophomore year and "rose up the ranks"
So where do I start explaining
you’re not describing the activity itself, you’re describing why it’s meaningful to you
so the essay isn’t “I did x activity and helped y people and made z progress”
it’s more of “i did x activity and the reason i enjoyed it was a, b, and c”
Oh ok
Make sure you really show your personality and character
How did you start? Like starting with "My most meaningful activity is..." seems childish but doing the classic imagery opening seems fake
I don’t know where my essay is tbh
Oh 💀
What do you think though?
Also can I just repurpose this for the UCF one?
theres a lot of ways to start an essay other than those
Yup but I can't waste too much space if it's only 250 words
dumb question... GENERALLY how long do AOs spend on one application
I think i did tbh lol
Boutta make one and use it for all the extracurricular prompts 😂
Was it sparks?
I just wrote kinda ab how a certain event during volunteering changed my career aspirations
Which essay is that?
Please provide more details on your most meaningful commitment outside of the classroom while in high school and explain why it was meaningful. This could be related to an extracurricular activity, work, volunteering, an academic activity, family responsibility, or any other non-classroom activity.*
For what college
I meant
I think that's UCF or UF
UF
Idk
Ah I see
Ig why not start off with "my most meaningful activity..." supplements you are suppose to just answer the prompt and be straightforward right
It's 250 words so it does give me some room for a narrative
No point no? I feel like for supplements AOs just want more straightforward answers. That's my opinion tho
We got the CAPS for narratives and all
Yeah, it's just easier for me to show my personality and my thoughts through a narrative ig
However you find is best to talk about it is great! That’s what AOs are looking for in those statements: not just the meat of how you answer the prompt, but also your voice and how you tell it
That’s the one chance you’ve got aside from your essay to show “here’s who I am as a person outside of the numbers”
Thanks for the info!
Hey what should I do as a 14 year old applying to UF
applying to uf in the future right? probably join some clubs and have a good gpa for now and worry about the application process when you're a senior
nah im applying this november
then talk to your counselor
i dont have one
are you homeschooled ?
yes
you may want to speak to someone at uf
i spoke to two people
one said 100% yes
one said hell no
💀
i guess you can just apply through common app if you have all your requirements
alr then
Yeah, apply through common app like normal
That’s interesting though, whyre you choosing to go to college so early?
fun
but tbh i have National Merit Semifinalist status and if i wait another year its not guaranteed so yeah
Let me grab the Admissions contact form for you!
@clever nacelle https://admissions.ufl.edu/contacts
@topaz stirrup I don’t think we do chancing here?
no chance mes
we have uf's common data set pinned in this channel if you would like to look at averages
We do not
idk i think we should allow chance mes, the answer is pretty obvious every time: 50/50
unless youre an opp
then its REJECTED
What would make UF a safety instead of a target
I do pass above their academic averages
UF was 35% acceptance rate when I came in lol
Now it's %26
But I'm guessing it's bc more and more people r applying each year
Btw did you ever receive my dm? Just asking.
I did! I’ve been driving most of today (just got back from hurricane break at home) so finally getting a chance to sit down.
Oh ok. Take your time. Sorry about that
curious, how does this affect your application?
Nothing. Jus curious. Also make me more reassured ig
Is SRAR required if we already fill out SSAR
I recall yes, but who would you need the SRAR for? I remember something vaguely about working on both myself
Is uf online easier to get into?
UF does use SRAR
and the only other Florida schools im applying to are UCF and FSU. They all use SRAR according to Google
Now I'm confused. Is SSAR the same thing as SRAR
They take SSAR
…I think so. Let me double check
College Kickstart empowers students to craft sensible college plans that maximize odds and minimize wasted motion.
The Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR/SSAR) allows applicants to record and submit courses, grades, and test scores as part of your college application to participating colleges and universities....
Yep, same thing
did ya loose power
i lost power and im in miami
My Gainesville apartment did, thankfully I was in Orlando from Wednesday on for industry stuff and we kept power all week
im suprised orlando did but i somehow lost it in miami
thats just wonky
Some areas in Jacksonville lost power but to the east the worst thing I saw was a fallen tree branch
And my neighborhood went unaffected
Does innovation academy have any benefits for pre-med students?
I don't like the schedule for it but if it helps me with pre med (opportunities, classes, etc), then I'll go for it
Why are you doing CS -> prelaw
usually prelaw majors do history, poli sci, criminology, or journalism here I think
cause your undergrad is supposed to teach you how to think for prelaw
but cs has an entirely different thought process
also these majors rlly test your research + writing skills which is useful for law school
I feel like cs wouldn’t be as beneficial
Anyone know
cs then law
She’s asking why you want to go to law
basically law consulting but with a fancy cs wrapper is my goal
There's also a lot of legal issues that can require technical knowledge. Including patent law and IP law
I worked with a guy at Universal who did something similar ish
Not all law is fancy arguing in a courtroom, sometimes its contract law or copyright or supporting scientific inquiry/R&D
Yeah
Anyone
AI/software/IP law?
that second part is the fun prt
part
yeah
If you would have the chance to take the Business Law class here, I’d recommend it. I think you’d really enjoy it. Emerson is a fun guy.
i prob will try
my mom keeps saying she wont lemme go to college
im going anyways lol
Online college isn't too bad for your gen eds. Being under 18 means you're going to have a lot that has to be signed off on by your parents anyway
I would see if you can figure out what her concerns are, and we might be able to help shed light on options that allow you to still get college classes done but also sate your mom’s concerna
She said she doesnt think im mature enough (she compares me to total nerds - on the other hand my friend ( juinor from FAU) rolls on the floor and yells "YIPPEE" at the most random times)
Mature meaning adulting (like independent tasks, cleaning room, paying bills, etc) or school work?
first one
It takes time. College was the first time I lived far from my parents, and there have definitely been bumps and learning moments. Helping plan groceries/meals, keeping track of a schedule, keeping up with chores, packing on ones own are all things that help show that maturity.
If you live in the state of Florida, you can also take community college classes and if you complete your associates, you get guaranteed admission to one of the State University system colleges in Florida.
like UF?
Well theres just one issue
UF is an SUS university yes
I am a national merit semifinalist and if I dont accept a college it goes away
Ah
She doesnt see how it matters (i tried to tell her about Benequisto but she didnt listen)
That's…difficult.
UF Online should still count for scholarships I think, but the OneStop would have info about that https://www.onestop.ufl.edu/
You graduate high school in the fall?
Also I would fill out the FAFSA if you can now
(I think it launched today for this coming year if I remember correctly)
No in the Spring (June 2025)
CSS launched today
FAFSA is Dec 1 i think
That. Thanks lol
I’m still on the old calendar when FAFSA used to launch on October 1st. And i had just read the Benacquisto requirement about enrolling in fall and you said graduating and my mental wires crossed
Its fine lol
Let me know if you have any q about Benacquisto. We went through the process last yr.
Does the $500 scholarship from UF (if you select UF as your top choice) get you in for benac
yes
Due to space being made available, you have now been successfully registered for Open House on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 8:00 AM
An agenda and parking details for the event will be sent out in the days leading up to the event. Check-in will begin at 8:00AM. Those wanting to take a campus tour will need to check-in by 8:45AM to be accommodated.
If you have any questions about the event, feel free to reach out to [email protected].
If you can no longer attend and need to cancel, edit your registration.
Yoooooooo im in
Who else is going?
There's a 500 scholarship?
Is it auto enrolled?
And wdym by choosing UF as your top choice. Like early applying?
I’ll be working the event! Look for someone with blonde curly hair and a UF Admissions polo!
Look for someone whos extremely short
(me)
Its for National Merit ppl only
5ft6 so like yeah short
Rip. I didn't even qualify for semi finalist
I'm regretful with the PSAT
did you qualify for commended?
What's that
What was your selection index
If you got above a 206 some national merit scholarships may still accept you
I got a 218
Bro mine was 205 I think
Idk I forgot
What was your score breakdown
I can calculate it for you
740 M and 630RW?
yeah thats low
so like
200
its not bad i mean
its just not very good
My SAT wasn’t amazing either, but I did a heck of a lot better on ACT.
i did better on SAT because i got da laptop
See, I was of the good ole days when we had pen and paper 😉
And on my APs i got 2s because (my opinion) I used pen and paper
If I had used laptop I would get a 4
I had an A in my courses
I remember taking APs on computer during Covid and thank heavens they were in subjects I liked
But writing an AP Lit essay on paper was nice cause you could notate on the texts
bluebook is good tho
Hey Celeste. R u still busy. Wondering if you could check dm
And is there diff deadlines for each college for the FFAA?
Curious. Has the UF housing portal opened for $25 deposit for new applicants? Last year, it was opened in late* September.
It hasn’t yet. We’re waiting on housing.
We are telling applicants they’ll get an email when it does open if they’ve submitted their application already.
ty. When you say "we", are you referring to current students or admissions office?
When does the housing deposit open for current students? Isn't it in November? Or is it Oct?
Admissions office.
@.gracie. you’re on-campus, right?
Oh for the love of peet moss
@topaz stirrup
I am
Y’all gotten any communication about renewals? (I say this as my apartment complex started renewals August 26th and is stuffing my inbox with those emails)
yo rq should i apply to honors or innovation
Depends on what you’re looking for and if CS falls under innovation (since that’s limited by major)
Posted by a cs major
so honors lol
So if I submit it by next Tuesday, I can't submit the early $25 housing fee ?
On Reddit you'll see 30% say innovation academy was great. The rest says it's terrible
Also, you can apply to both at the same time (AO told me)
And does anyone know
It’s not even available to submit yet
Oh. Could you dm if when it becomes available? I thought of submitting my app next week but it's not worth it if I can't submit the housing fee yet
I’ll do my best! Gracie might beat me to the punch cause I’ll be missing a few of our admissions update meetings for job stuff
Ah ok thank you
I only have the time to write one of those essays lol
Stats of c/o of 2028 and 2027 UF admitted students (and honors)
I should go find the articles for other schools from last year and pin them
This is helpful ty
does anyone know how the 4.57 GPA average is calculated? Is AP = 5 or 6 pt weight?
should i get my sat score up or smth
im at a 1420
UF calculates a core, weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale as part of the evaluation process.
Dual-enrollment courses in academic core areas and any AP, IB or AICE classes receive an extra 1.0 credit weight, meaning that an A is worth a 5.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Pre-AICE, pre-AP, pre-IB and Honors classes receive a 0.5 credit weight, meaning that an A is worth a 4.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Wow. So average 4.57 GPA means the average admitted UF students had all A's and they took more AP/DE courses than regular courses. That's really really remarkable.
My senior year I took all APs except for Stats Honors and an elective for my work co-op
Basically everyone I’ve talked to has either graduated with their associates degree or took and outrageous amount of AP or IB classes..
if i apply to summer b will i still be considered regular
Yes
We got like over 3 weeks wdym
Retaking the SAT so gotta study
And that's over in 2 days...
Still 3 weeks left
Do we link SSAR to gators portal through the gator portal or SSAR website?
SSAR website should give a string of some numbers and letters or whatever and Gator Portal should have a spot you can enter them in the SSAR line item
But gator portal only visible after you submit your app
would u be down to read my uf supp i think its my final draft
well hm unless u dont like it
or are any other uf ppl down 🙏
Your original draft was good to go! I don’t think you have to do any more work on it
How many supplements does UF have besides honors
eek shoot really
i sent it to one of my friends then i started overthinking and lowkey changed it a lot
wait lowkey could i dm u the current updated one and like u lmk which is better if u wouldnt mind
Sure, I’m reading through Kuman’s stuff rn and then I can look!
okok tysm
juh one i think
i sent in dms btw
Nice
I'm so glad Florida colleges don't have a million supplements
UF 1 + 1 honors. FSU none and +1 honors that isn't even due until December. UCF 3 (really? More than UF?) idk ab the rest
For anyone who’s DM’d me their statement and NOT gotten a first response from me (kuman and Jolibee don’t count cause I’m reviewing their stuff) - PLEASE tell me here. I’m forgetting which of y’all I had accepted as friends or whatnot and I swear I’ll go through it, probably this weekend.
Jolibee and Kuman are the two on my plate right now, as is a major internship app (heh) and a tour guide cert exam I’m giving, both happening tomorrow.
Good luck
It’s with my former department from my first internship that FINALLY has a spot in a role I didn’t think they’d offer for interns. And I do want to go back :)
me!
Hey ima DM you my statement rn
If I pick one (innovation or honors) and get into both, do I get to pick which one i use?
Oh. God luck
Geez
how do i search this uf chat?
what are you looking for
It should show off your personality and your passion for the activity you chose to write about!
Sorry im busy rn ):
Tomorrow maybe?
sure!!
When is the deadline for test materials for uf early action?
november 15th iirc
Sus
R u auto considered for summer if you apply to fall
yes
if u r not as competitive you may get put into summer
but your chances at acceptance arent better if you apply for summer vs fall
Oh aight
I 🧡 UF & I 💙 winning
We didn’t make it on the Jumbotron or tv even tho we were front row
Odd question
Anyone here from miami driving to UF open house?
My dad may not be able to drive as his knee just got replaced'
Or is there a train or smth
can someone help with my supp immediately
lots of buses i think
Only 1. 2 if your applying honors
Oh yeah
Wait whats the uf supp if ur not applying honors
Describing your most meaningful EC
250 words I think?
There's another one: list stuff that keeps you from doing EC, like family responsibilities. That's also 250 words but you can say no and it hardly counts as a supp
id recommend taking a redcoach business class bus
5 hour journey from WPB, drops you off at UF
rigged!!
doing everybody a favor fr
ok lost to clemson
well you see
if you exclude the first quarter we did great
Wiggles. Are the programs for FSU like going into TSC worth it
FSU competing against UF?
no. just an fsu loss is the same as a uf win
Oh
rent free
I didn't know gators are rivals with Seminole
HA
like
huge rivals
biggest in the state probs
florida has a love triangle between uf fsu um
I know nothing ab football lol
each one hates the other
Damn.
um is so irrelevant
i usually think uf fsu and like usf
like most recognizable
Oh
Damn Knights lost to UF so badly
FSU lost badly to Tigers it seems like
UF A2C GIRLS TAKE ON GAME DAY!!!!
Tbh UM isn’t up there with uf and fsu
We should do that shouldn’t we 😆
YESSS u need to go with us next time
I wanna go to the UK game
gracie london arc
soon 🔥
You say this as I’m wearing my “Beat Kentucky” tank today while running errands 😆
as you should be omg
@topaz stirrup hi!! how was uf about accepting credits from you associates degree? i'm graduating with mine so i want to know what to expect.
also, do you have anything to say about the compsci program? like hopefully its not overcrowded or a lottery system bc ive seen that at other schools...
sorry if you already addressed this stuff but i can't search the channel </3
hi! they accept up to 60 credits (: all of mine transferred !
I believe they have to honor the 60 that you come in with
If you had like 72 credits or something, then you can select which of the 12 credits you DON’T transfer over
Let me know if you have any more questions!
ok thats good! does that 60 credit limit also include AP exams? i had some of those cover the credits for my aa as well
Yeppp
thats definitely going to be a headache for wtv advisor i'll have to meet with about that 😭 .. tysm for the clarification!!
You’ll meet with one at previous (aka orientation)
no worries!!!
Hi favorite humans :)
Classes just got canceled for Wednesday/Thursday so chaos be happening today. Stay safe if you’re in Florida!
how should i be writing my supp for uf? i just need some general advice.
Hi just wondering if you got my DMs
Is UF housing app open yet
Yall i cant find the supp where is it
Oh the meaningful commitement
I didnt know that was a supp lol
hi did you happen to see my dm
I can’t find the link to SSAR on my gator portal application profile
(I made the profile yesterday after receiving the email)
Check common app...
Look through each section
found it
i didnt know that the most meaningful ec would be considered a supp lol
You are writing an essay technically aren't you?
yes
are test scores sent through collegeboard for uf?
or do i not have to send it through collegeboard
You can self-report
so is that on common app?
Nope, self report on the gator portal after submitting your application
Hello, could you tell me if I could receive the feedback or not. I just really want to know if I can or just stop waiting for it.
Do you have any tips for the Honors essay?
I'm finally out of hurricane brain and getting life back together. Thanks for your patience, everyone!
I'm throwing this one to @topaz stirrup
But I have a friend who did and his advice was to incorporate the honors pillars and show how you reflect each of them
Well it's different this year
As Albert Einstein once said, “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” Reflecting on this, what academic subjects, learning opportunities, or extracurricular activities are you most excited to engage in during your college experience? How do you imagine or hope the UF Honors Program will help feed your curiosity and help you achieve your aspirations?
You know a heck of a lot more than I do, I just know some stuff from former Luminaries
i know a grand total one (1) person who was accepted to uf honors
shes just completely neurotic and i guess that made her come across as really dedicated and passionate
so try being an absolute lunatic tldr
💀 ig I'll talk about some of my unique hobbies
Oh also since this is UF, I'll just ask my question here
For Courses and Grades in Common App, do I put FLVS courses normally or add a separate transcript? (It's all in 1 transcript)
did you take it through "county virtual school" on flvs
ok great im also in orange county so
youre fine just submitting your hs transcript
itll be on there
oh as in like, how many schools did you attend?
Idk if I should do this or add it to my high school one
Wait mb I uploaded the same pic twice
that wasnt required for any of my schools, but im almost certain you wont need to do that if all your courses are on your hs transcript
because then they would double count
Oh ok
Oh yeah that too
Would part-time FLVS count as another school?
Alright
Yeah this is extremely similar to the one I did. What I said still applies for sure
The honors program has pretty standard perks tbh
and they affect basically every major the same way
so def touch on those perks and benefits and the ways they’d impact you, but also explain how you as a person/student align with the honors program’s pillars
write the essay unique for UF honors program (UHP). Explain why UHP is critical for your academic success and why you will be a good fit to UHP.
afaik, honors essay is not read by AO. It's read by UHP ppl. (perhaps others can verify this)
Should I apply for the UF honors program by talking about what I want to do or that I love learning?
how does that relate to UHP? Sounds like you are writing "why this major" type essay instead.
the emphasis has to be on UF UHP rather than your major.
You can also apply after you finish freshman year. Its called “lateral” admissions
UF doesn't read the common app section, you’ll have to reenter the classes on the SSAR
“What do you love learning about” I would say
i think theyre asking for other schools, but yeah SSAR will be fun
I know, but the Education section is sent to all colleges, and I have a couple schools that require Courses & Grades
Gotcha!
Just asked here because Florida lol
alr
So, should it be focused on one thing?
The pillars essay was way easier wtf
Yeah I would just hone in on portions of honors that connect & resonate with you specifically/personally. Maybe call back to other parts in your application and how UHP fits you
I highly recommend you spend some time on this page to understand what UF UHP cares about: https://www.honors.ufl.edu/about/mission-vision-and-values/
oh man I spent hours looking at that
Thanks!
Only Stanford I know requires that
Last year there was another kind of honors essay?
If I say no to UF's question about applying to financial aid, does that affect my bright futures
Yes mine was about the pillars of honors and was relatively easy to connect
Idk what last years was tho
Good luck🙏
Oh. Ig this year's essay is harder
Anyone know
Well idk if it’s harder overall. Just personally the pillars one was easier to connect to my own experiences. If anything, the prompt this year is more open for and general, so it’s a bit more freedom
I hate freedom
yo wait could i shoot u a dm rq
Sure
Is UF need blind?
Honestly, no clue
Their website says nothing ab it either
Ima just call them tomm
I wouldn’t be surprised if they were need blind considering that I rarely see them actually give out money 😭
Btw do you mind reading my UF honors essay tomm
Sorry, I don’t read essays. I’m not confident in giving advice/opinions
I mean, most Florida students have bright futures right?
I see
A decent chunk
Im pretty sure im eligible for the 100% one. Does UF only give merit scholarships if you already got all tuition covered from bright futures?
No idea. I don’t know the exact statistics but I’m pretty sure the amount of merit scholarships they give out is so minimal it’s not worth counting on.
Oh lol
https://www.collegetransitions.com/dataverse/colleges-meeting-your-financial-need according to this website, UF is only need blind for in states
florida the state or florida as in the university of florida
Say at FSU, if you got bright futures, does the school even give you any money besides maybe from merit
yeah, if you have a 30+ (idk the SAT equivalent) they give you 4k/year
which covers housing + a few hundred leftover I think
it’s their vires scholarship if you want to look into it
UF on the other hand does not give money
I think like half the students here get a 1k/yr scholarship or something tiny
maybe it’s per semester
Idk
I see. Do you know if UF financial aid app, which is only FAFSA, is serperate from bright future's FFAA?
afaik, UF merit scholarship (which exists but not a lot) are determined by the SFA office not by AO.
https://www.sfa.ufl.edu/types-of-aid/scholarships/ has more updated information than the page in UF admissions.
"The merit scholarship review process is holistic and there is no automatic awarding of UF scholarships based on test scores or GPA. There is not a separate application for UF merit scholarships, as all admitted students who apply by the November 1 freshman admission priority deadline are considered. The recipients are selected by a committee each spring and will be notified via email by mid-March."
For current freshman, the UF merit scholarships were notified on 2/28/2024 via email. (This can change because of the new EA/RD rounds)
I have 3 on my list that require
Yes, they are 2 separate
in addition, FAFSA is need based, where FFAA is merit based.
Since you don't have to separately apply for UF merit, if I were you, I won't waste any time/energy on this topic.
Yes, if you’re planning on apply for financial aid for any colleges you should be doing the FAFSA
The bright futures? Yeah kinda.
But it sure helps a lot of people
Tho I don't really think the rich rich people needs it
yes, about 140k FL college students receive bright futures. See https://www.floridastudentfinancialaidsg.org/pdf/annualreportcurrent.pdf
And they managed to get 140k students to stay in Florida

thats all college students, includes renewals
about 33k per year receive it
They do pay for healthcare right
19k get 100% 14k get 75%
wtf. The flyer told me it paid for healthcare
does it
maybe thats benaquisto?
i use my parents healthcase so i havent had experience trying to reimburse it
Oh
Yeah
100% BF pays tuition+fees, which is $212.71 per credit. health fee (not healthcare) is part of the fees.
you will need proof of healthcare insurance to get UF healthcare insurance waived.
benacquisto doesn't pay health insurance per se. It just pays a lumpsum fixed amount and it's up to the student to decide how to spend any excess of UF charges.
For 24/25, the total amount of BNQ + BF + NM is fixed at $23,150 per yr.
Anyone know if UF housing app $25 fee is open yet
Shouldn't you wait until you get in
the earlier you do it the earlier you secure an earlier spot in line and better chance for housing
Oh ok
Yeah but idk if I want to submit my app yet if it's not opened
oh yeah ive got no clue, i dont even think i ended up doing it until i got accepted ngl
Dang. Did you manage to get a dorm you liked tho?
yeah. idk if its cuz the person i roomed with did it early or because they reserved honors village for freshman only when i dormed
i moved out after a sem though
You rented an apartment?
yeah, gf transferred to uf so we did off campus
Ah
though breaking your dorm lease without paying is pretty difficult ive heard, i had docs that supported it though
UF’s $25 housing deposit is NOT open yet
Tysm.
I still want my app worked on for a little longer
Do I enter senior courses in SSAR
Yes. They will be put in as “in progress”
chat how do i get to UF in time for open house without a car
doesn't really matter, as you can change major at Preview
afaik, UF doesn't admit by major
Ok
bus, hitchhiking, charter a private jet, start the walk now
anyone doing cs or compE at uf
i'm debating whether I should apply as I've heard a lot of people end up doing FAANG internships
and it seems nice for internships generally
but idk if it's overcrowded or anything like that
getting FAANG internship is not so common any more with the current job market.
i pick bus
@topaz stirrup might know someone
My bf is doing cs
I don’t think it’s any different than every other above average cs school
when it comes to being overcrowded
We do have more opportunities to work with some of the research behind it with the NVIDIA Supercomputer on campus
Im doing cs
is the honors program worth it?
also, should I put more info in the additional information essay if it's already in the common app additional information section?
I would, because UF doesn’t always receive everything you put into the common app (ie test scores)
for the better dorms alone probably yeah
no harm in trying
I consider these 2 are the main benefits of UHP.
- early registration upto 10 credits
- brand new honors village in a prime location
like copy and paste?
Good question. I’m working open house tomorrow so I’ll be able to talk to the AOs about that during my shifts
Thank you!
honestly after staring at the prompt for a while i realized the essay is a vibe
curiosity is like half of my life
explains why my hands are all rough too
What's a FAANG internship?
facebook, apple, amazon, nvidia, google
Yes, i don’t utilize any resource except early class registration and that alone is worth it
i am totally overthinking this essay \
im trying to look at course descriptions so i can talk about in the essay and im lowkey getting annoyed
like finding cool stuff of why i want to go and its literally making me not want to go to uf because its so hard
mit was all like you get to design chips by hand and fabricate in a lab, gt was simiilar and UF is like learn about semiconductors in a lab
Annoyed with what?
no elaboration just kinda basic
i responded before you said that
u know what i mean
I see. I can’t offer much advice there as my honors essay was about the honors pillars. It’s a good starting for the honors portion of the prompt but couldn’t help with the other half much
thanks, i saw that but anything helps!
Good luck
thanks!
TBHHHHHHHHHHHH … I don’t consider this a massive benefit if you’re the one paying for it
You’re paying < 2k/yr more than you’d pay for a standard dorm…
which can be a significant amount for some people
Especially if you don’t have a bathroom in your dorm…
The communal bathrooms are certainly NICE but at the end of the day they’re communal bathrooms
I will not be living in honors village again next year because it just did not meet my needs for the price
But if you aren’t paying for your dorm and it’s close to your classes then it’s nice! There are still so many perks to the dorm but I wouldn’t 100% settle on living in honors village even if you get into honors because there might be better dorms that meet your needs more
^ another namely perk is broward dining being right next to HV
u are in hv?
Yeah
u in UHP?
yes but you essentially need an accommodation to do so
Really don’t let the new of it fool you
It’s so nice but I never take advantage of the study rooms or location really so
As someone who doesn’t have a meal plan, is paying for their own college, and mainly has classes on the other side of campus … there are way more factors that I should have considered before committing to honors village
i believe hv is the most expensive dorm at uf
It is
and the rooms are tiny
I could have gotten a single in buckman or murphree for ~2k/yr less
Which would have been way closer to my classes and off campus food options..
you can tell I’m clearly not upset by the decision I made
is this a typo?
it’s sarcasm
can't tell /s
are you planning off campus for yr-2?
Nope, I’m going to apply to RA and if I get rejected then I’m gonna live in a single in either murphree or buckman
^ I chose those two bc they’re in the historic district and have a private sink included in them
I lived in a trad large double in murphree this past summer and LOVED it (essentially it was two conjoined singles)
so if I don’t get a true single then I’ll do that again
RA comes with free dorm + free meal plan. Correct?
Is any that is applying to ucf still see the deadline as Oct 15 when they changed it to the 22nd?
Agreed
Overpriced & small room
That’s what I’ve heard yep!
Ooh I have friends that have lived over there and they love it
That's nice. Hope you get the RA position. GL!
Welp my dads knee is broken so im not gonna be there tomorrow lol
Oh no! I hope he’s okay ):
^^^ same here! We’ll miss ya!
Its fine
He got surgery a week and a half ago
He thought hed be ok but its fine
so chat how was the event
Do the Honors early-arrival camps change every year or not?
I want to write about one of them in my Honors essay but I'm not sure if it'll still be here next year
which one? there are several camps before fall semester
One Credit to Rule them All
afaik, OCRA has been around for at least 2 yrs
https://one.uf.edu/soc/ go here and look up previous semesters
University of Florida - Schedule of Courses
goes back to 2019
camps are listed under fall semesters
Thanks!
Do you think I should write about it? I'm really into Tolkien's Legendarium but I'm not sure if it aligns with that Albert Einstein quote as much
I don't know much about LotR to comment
Did you have a chance to ask
how long does uf take to confirm residency
That’s a housing question lol
Nope. That’s all housing, from what I’ve been told.
what do you mean exactly?
Once we filled out the form (forgot whether it was after acceptance or not), it took 2-3 days for UF to confirm we are in-state.
i filled mine out the 8th, hopefully it's soon then
I thought it was for tuition purposes?
It’s after you submit your application! You can choose to do it after you get accepted though, but I’ve heard you just want to do it at the latest soon after you’re accepted
It’s a super quick form, I think for mine we just submitted like a drivers license and then uploaded an email stating that my family attended church in florida lol
Melissa had referred us to Housing for all the grandparent waiver questions so that’s where I had gotten it from
Ohhh
Hmm I didn’t know that
I thought like the line on the application was “residency for tuition purposes”
Or not application but application portal
I just signed up to shadow my first tour 😍
YAYYYY
did any of yall ever ask about the extenuating circumstances
I shot a text to our AO sponsor, she said she’ll answer me tomorrow about it to double check
thanks!!!
do you anticipate that early action will be more competitive than regular decision? @native oak
we don't know yet
we don't have any information to go off of
if I were applying i'd be optimistic because i don't think any school is more competitive for EA than RD
thank you 🙏
If you’re consider UF as any sort of priority, I would try for Early action. EA you can at least get deferred to RD.
if i put summer b as my ideal whats the chance im accepted and its not summer b
I would say low
you usually get summer b if you apply for summer b
