If the class is massive, there are alot of TFs to do that kinda stuff. In one of my geneds, it's by canvas quiz. Each TF gives their group a special code for that day and that's how you fill it out. You don't come, you don't have the code, you're absent. For my other gened each TF just hands out a piece of paper and collects in the first 5 minutes. For my Spanish, he just looks at us bc there are only 10 of us and for my CS20 (Discrete Math) each section has a tF who marks if you are there or not

Lol. I mean, tbf, they are not ALL like that! For ECON10A/B all lectures are recorded and I don't think there is an attendance check. For CS50 you have to scan your ID in for attendance for like the first 6 lectures (there is only 1 lecture every monday) then the last 4 are online. You can also simutaenously enroll in CS50 (meaning, take another course during the same time slot) and just do CS50 fully online.

I mean they don't specifically say they don't pre-screen, they simply state they try to offer them to all. Think about the actual plausibility of interviewing every candidate who applies who is just not a serious candidate for a school like Harvard, MIT, Pton. It's not easily done. There's an overflow list for MIT for those who do not have any readily available alumni in their area, but even so I have serious doubt that they would interview a candidate who was far below standards (Think someone applying to MIT as a joke. Maybe like 1000 SAT and like 3.0 GPA)

I do think MIT makes an effort to interview every single applicant, but for certain ones they aren't realistic and just simply aren't a priority to take off that overflow list.
