they may be a good match for what you're looking for, plus they dont consider freshman gpa

is cost a concern? UCs will not give you aid as an OOS student

i wouldnt apply if paying sticker price is an issue tbh, but if you have the ability to pay the UC system would be a great choice

yea im in a somewhat similar situation in florida

you want a large university near a city, so i think most big 10 schools fit that

university of minnesota, university of wisconsin, university of michigan, ohio state university, all come to mind

university of pittsburgh, north carolina state (UNC could also work, is further out though), and for private schools american university and george washington university are both in DC which might be nice for museum stuff

would love to rec USC!! Feels like i towuld tick the boxes youre looking at and with the nice SAT youve got, applying EA should line you up well for a good shot with merit scholarships!

I think we also have a paleobotany class or some other fun paleo-something elective in BIOL

Definitely plugging UNC biology here (a minor or second major in envsci may be something to consider as well; I'm double majoring in bio/envsci), but I also think that UNC Wilmington and NC State have wonderful ecology coursework

UNCW has a heavy emphasis on coastal/marine ecology (given its location) but they do have stuff in more general bio/ecology I believe

I would say OOS UNC is a reach, NCSU and UNCW for bio/ecology should be in the "target" zone

Oh also UNC has field sites in the mountains & on the coast

#

Can confirm that we have at least one avian biology class (although I think we might have two now!)

It also seems like ECU, Wake Forest, Duke, and UNC Charlotte have great ecology programs, although I'm not as familiar with them :P
