Schools: University of Southern California vs UC Irvine
Intended major: Cognitive Science
Similarities: both socal, so nice weather :)
got into usc off appeal and the deadline is may 31st, help please 🙏🏽🙏🏽
UC Irvine
Pros:
- in-state tuition
- easier opportunity to transfer to other UCs (yes i’m aware it’s hard, but letter of reciprocity makes the process more straightforward)
- pretty campus !!
- california cc credits transfer super easy
Cons:
- bad social life (i hear it’s a suitcase school)
- need a car to travel
- guaranteed housing only for first year
USC
Pros:
- LOS ANGELES (i want the city life in college cause i don’t think i’ll do it later)
- national merit scholarship (33k each year)
- sprint admit saves me a lot so overall COA is 50k a year (vs 40k at UCI)
- much more school spirit + alumni network
- private school facilities (better advising, no waitlist for classes)
Cons:
- spring admit, idk how hard it’ll be to make friends a sem later
- B.A degree, apparently slightly harder to get a job out of school (tell me if this is wrong)
- is the cost worth it? (return on investment…)
Tiebreaking considerations:
- how much of a difference does ba vs bs make?
- how toxic/spoiled child is USC really?
- USC professors/research opportunities (in comparison to a public)
- any info from spring admits about their experience would help <3
tldr: 40k @ UCI, 50k @ USC (the difference is manageable for my family, but is it worth?) also how does being a spring admit change your experience?
i’d appreciate any help, somehow this decision is way scarier 💀💀
