I have 3 days left to decide... HELP 😭

Intended Major/Career: Not sure and I'm not exactly sure about what career I want to pursue, though I've considered medicine, quant, swe, and venture capital. I'm a very entrepreneurial person, so I do know that I want to create my own startup/company, regardless of the field I choose.

*Cost: My parents are willing to pay full cost at Stanford, but our agreement is that IF I attend grad school, which I'm honestly not sure if I want to pursue yet, I'd have to take out loans for it. Since I have full rides at UF and UNC, I wouldn't have to take out loans for grad school because my parents would pay instead.

Stanford
Pros:

  • Entrepreneurship/startup culture is unmatched
  • Don't have to declare a major until I finish my second year
  • Insane alumni network and networking opportunities
  • Prestige
  • Amazing weather and campus
  • So many research opportunities available
    Cons:
  • Have to pay for grad school (but idk if I want to do grad)
  • Very far, like across the country far
  • I'd feel kinda guilty if my parents spend all that money just for an undergrad degree
  • "Stanford bubble"

UNC
Pros:

  • Offered a full ride scholarship program that is geared towards entrepreneurs/innovators and will receive $5k my junior year summer as a stipend
  • Honors Carolina and Carolina scholars program
  • Received an accelerated research program invitation
  • Close to home (2 hrs by plane)
  • Have the freedom to attend any grad school I want
    Cons:
  • Have to apply for majors
  • Grade deflation??
  • Not that great of a startup culture

UF
Pros:

  • Offered the Lombardi/Stamps scholarship, meaning that I travel abroad 4 times, receive a $3k stipend every semester, and a tight-knit cohort
  • UF Honors and accelerated research program
  • Close to home (5 hours by car)
  • Sister and 3 of my cousins go here. Also have tons of family and friends in Gainesville, so I'll have a great support system
  • Have the freedom to attend any grad school I want
    Cons:
  • I've heard the food is horrible
  • Some departments (specifically chemistry, physics, and CS) suck
  • Might not branch out/network as much since I already know a lot of people there

what type of grad school are you considering? i’d take one of the full ride offers either way since if you want to create your own startup an MBA might be in your future. you’d also be a standout student at UNC or UF, whereas at stanford you’d be another (exceptional!) freshman

If you ever want to make a startup

#

Stanford undergrad

#

Being from stanford just makes it easier to get funding than any other school

#

And as you noted the school has a huge entrepreneurial culture that’ll make it easier for you to find a great cofounder

You don’t even know if you will go to grad school so honestly I think stanford is the way to go. College is all about the connections you make along the way that will help you in your future career and life. You will be exposed to intelligent students at both UNC and UF but not to the same caliber of those at Stanford. I think it’s honestly all about what you make out of it but I would say Stanford. The con though is they have a quarter system which means your classes go fast and your breaks are short. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR DECISIONS!

if u have the ability to get into stanford then u should follow the money

#

stanford and it's not close

#

undergrad from stanford would get you much further for quant/venture capital/entrepreneurship than a bachelors from uf/unc + a masters from ANYWHERE would

#

and if you wanna get a phd instead of a masters, it's all gonna be funded anyways

#

only case you should even be considering uf/unc (with this grad school deal) is if you're very sure you wanna do an MD afterwards

spoiler alert

being unable to take a miniscule sarcastic hit to your ego over discord isnt a character trait that gets into your dream school
