#Cornell vs UPenn

Tiebreaking considerations:

  • Same price at both schools
  • Internship placement
  • School culture differences, especially for introverts (not shy or afraid to talk to people just need my alone time)
  • Student body differences (average cornell student vs average penn student vibes)
  • Clubs and how competitive they are at each school (competitive at both, but is one much less competitive than the other?)
  • Prefer a suburban environment, but can deal with Ithaca, but unsure of the exact opportunities and things to do there, which is why I put it as a con
  • I don't care about weather and want a place I might find myself most comfortable at (is Cornell like Penn in the sense that its preprofessional and occasionally toxic?).

Not sure if it seems like I have a preference for either one from my post but I don't! please feel free to be as honest and critical as possible thank you guys!!

Cornell is really the go to ivy fir any engineering

#

So if you want to do EE that’s a no brainer

#

However Econ and EE are pretty different so if you’re more set on engineering but want to change it up Cornell is a good choice but if you’re more firmly set on Econ then Penn is a good choice

did u get cornll cas?

#

dont bank on being able to internal transfer to cornell coe

#

its harder than u think

#

to all of ur considerations from the pov of cornell

  • internship placement i heard is good if u know what to go for + ppl in ur major are usually friendly and mentoring or offer advice
  • i mean if u want ur alone time ppl will leave u alone lol. no college has ppl running up to u and begging for attention
  • idk how to explain the vibes, ask a better question
  • project teams and consulting clubs are competitive
  • what things do u like to do in ur free time?? also idk what phys or eng majors would do during the academic year even in a city; is there like volunteering or smth yall want?
  • quite hard to find ppl outwardly toxic and like secretive abt their strategies and answers n shit but nonpreprof ppl are common at cornell i think; like theres no shame to bio sci majors from premeds if ykwim
#

personally also the campuses are both really different; definitely tour both

#

i hated upenn vibe

#

when i toured

#

ohhh i thought that was maang

#

like every ivy really really good placements

#

most of my SWE friends who wanted it got it but i think interest wise a lot of people are very excited by the startup culture

#

i think you should think of SWE aside bc both school have really good pure swe placements

#

might be a little less direct than cornell though

#

but that’s also bc a lot of SWE kids go into Hedge funds, investment banking or PE

😭

#

like litearlly no one cares about other peoples lives enough to care

#

freshmen year you might feel pressure to go out because it may seem like everyone is

#

but thats also like every college

#

also a lot of people who didnt previously go out in hs can go out at penn and try it

#

that was me

#

I have mad respect for Wharton but for engineering Cornell has a stronger reputation

primal stump
#

its selection bias

#

it’s bc the smartest kids regardless of major do finance
