fwiw I'd have to pay $20k with 0 EFC to go to Stony OOS Applied Math. Mediocre applicant though so maybe that's why

Are you perchance a minority and interested in persuing a PhD?

I'm paying $19k (required freshman housing) w/out loans to go here. The math classes are very mediocre and if you're at all motivated, it might feel disappointing. Academic-wise, the school's only worth it if you're here for engineering, CS/SWE/CSec, and art/design

100% and it's not even a competition

#

well, I don't go to Stony, but the school is at least known for maths. RIT just has normal math that you can get at any flagship

Im actually goint to Stony for Applied Math myself

#

but thats less because I want to persue math, and more becasue it is super easy to pick and get accepted to any other major when you are in CEAS (Stony brook's college of engineering)

lo

#

for example, this is the latest hw for discrete math + intro to proofs. It's probably not super helpful if you're not already familiar with the subject, but the hw here is mainly for practicing the concepts you learn in class, which is fair. Not anything too tricky or requires you to think super outside the box

I know for stony brook, most people in MAT just suffer

that's awesome

#

RIT's low-div math classes are computational-heavy/""dumbed"" down so the engineers can pass them

#

Math majors do not get anything for being in the major. Even if you're more interested in math than CS, you're better off being a CS major (so you get reserved seats, unlike math where you have NO reserved seats in ANY class. Yes, even in Reals), and taking a math minor
