Schools: Colgate and Northeastern
Intended major: Computer Science/Computational Biology
Similarities: High quality academics, good research opportunities, major/classes flexibility, accessible professors

Colgate University
School 1 Pros:

  • Traditional college experience (D1 althetics)
  • More accessible professors/research because LAC
  • Upstate institute gives internships to freshman and sophomores (but it sounds like the internships arent that good just something to get started with, in which case I already have an internship i can continue with so it wouldn't rly be useful)
  • awesome dorms, food seems good, just a really good pretty campus
  • Alumni network

School 1 Cons:

  • middle of nowhere - internship opportunities are limited compared to northeastern
  • too white/preppy (didn't seem THAT bad when I visited tho)
  • not into drinking as much as most Colgate students it seems
  • being in the middle of nowhere is kinda peaceful and nice, it's just stressful knowing if I hate it I'm really trapped there idk
  • worried about the culture there not being a good fit for me

Northeastern University
School 2 Pros:

  • More credits are accepted i think
  • Co-op is insanely good
  • In Boston
  • love the pre-professional focus
  • more diverse

School 2 Cons:

  • housing is a nightmare
  • giving up a super cool school for it

Tiebreaking considerations:

  • Cost isn't an issue
  • Main consideration is academics/pre-professional, I think "fit" is less important to me than it may be for others.

Addendum: I also have other schools I got into and I don't know if I eliminated them too early but here they are(i used to want pre-med):

  • Carleton College - rly good LAC, it's in my top 3 favorites it's just in minnesota tho
  • Case Western Reserve University - in for Biology/pre-med, i think it's relatively easy to switch to CS tho if i want
  • Colorado College - idk LAC
  • Macalester College - idk LAC
  • Scripps College - idk LAC
  • Smith College - good LAC apparently bad CS program tho
  • University of Washington - in for presciences - IMPOSSIBLE to switch to CS otherwise I would totally be down to go
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison - in for biology but apparently easy to switch to CS

I rly cant decide bc I feel like these two options feel very different so it's hard to compare them.
