Schools: UMich Ann Arbor, UCSD

Intended Major: Engineering (Undecided) also want a minor or double major in economics

UMich
UMich Pros
highly ranked for engineering
good facilities and labs

UMich Cons
Ann Arbor not very urban
worried about future job placements afterwards
possible lack of industry connections

UCSD
UCSD Pros:
UC System
Great weather
California tech field

UCSD Cons:
Lower ranked for engineering and CS

Summary: My main worry with UMich is that after my degree finding a job will be difficult as itss in a more rural setting. Whereas, UCSD is closer to cities in California where a lot of major tech companies and startups are based out of.

im not toooo sure about either schools but i've generally heard very great things about UCSD stem

#

i'd talk more to current students but overall UCSD would be the way to go because of california connections and the weather

Thanks a lot for your insights!

hmm, I would say this would depend on where you want to go after college

#

if you want to move to cali then UCSD would be very solid

#

but uMich is great for people all along the mid-west and upper east coast

#

if you're looking into anywhere like chicago or new york, the uMich name will do you good

#

Even then, uMich is present along the west coast due to its prominence as a top state school

#

You're right on Ann Arbor's location though, it's more of a college town rather than a full city (also important to note if you need to live in a city

Not sure how good Michigan's econ program is, but Ross (their business school) is one of the best in the country in case you want to pursue a dual-degree

They're both around 70 thousand dollars a year since I'm out of state. So tuition cost is roughly the same. My main concern is finding a job after getting my degree

$70k/yr is a lot of money for a college degree. Hope you don't need to take out a loan.

#

If I had a cheaper option, I'd consider it over these 2.

#

No I don't need to take a loan for either one of them

#

if $70k/yr is not a burden, then I'd choose UMich over UCSD

#

Ann Arbor is not far from a major metro and has lots of nearby jobs within 30 min
