#uc berkeley vs scripps

i got into both so now i gotta decide 😭 they’re so different too which makes it harder

Intended major: double in political science and english (pre law)

cal
Pros:

  • i pay instate tuition after freshman year
  • great social scene
  • lots of resources & opportunities
  • i wanna go to norcal cause i grew up in LA
  • obviously trivial but rankings…
  • suuuper strong in poli sci and english
  • great study abroad programs (i rlly wanna go to east asia or london/paris)
  • love how politically active the school is (major plus for me i hate ppl who r politically apathetic)

Cons:

  • toxic hustle culture
  • competitive to a fault
  • realllyyyyy big
  • frat culture (? idk tho)
  • housing issue
  • harder to find friends
  • not very diverse (huge asian population and being chinese myself and from hong kong i want to meet more ppl from different backgrounds)

scripps
Pros:

  • 5C consortium so u can meet more ppl, clubs, cross register, etc
  • small women’s college in bigger setting
  • supportive community
  • cute campus
  • dorms with KITCHENS so i can BAKE!!! (i loveee baking)
  • socal weather
  • i like their core
  • more interesting classes (from what i saw from a quick browse thru the catalogues)

Cons:

  • kinda dead social scene (from what ive heard)
  • rlly far from LA & claremont is dead
  • i don’t rlly wanna be in socal again
  • paying full tuition (a lottt more than cal)
  • again trivial but not ranked as high
  • also lack of diversity except its majority white

i want to go to law school too so the advising for pre law and also just saving money for law school is important to me

Berkeley English is freaking awesome

id say a lot of the Berkeley hustle creature and competitive thing is majorly for stem and I've heard humanities can be amazing

dk about frat culture but housing I've heard it's not that bad

cause scripps has such a small community inherently it might be easier to connect

i feel like a big thing for me is just that i feel like i learn better in a small environment where i can get to know the professor and have more support

esp bc i have adhd

so idk how i’d do with a massive like 1000 person lecture

omg wait just realized i was admitted to the fall program for first semester which is like a small cohort for smaller class sizes n stuff
