Schools: UMich vs NYU NY
Intended major: neuro or cog sci, pre dental
Similarities: both are well known?
UMich
Pros:
- stronger for STEM (i think)
- very good research opportunities
- has a campus (pro and a con)
- good school spirit (idrc about this but good vibes)
- collaborative environment?
Cons:
- 23k cost, 13k more than NYU
- can be socially dead (big nono for me)
- suburban college town, not used to isolated environment
- less diversity :(
NYU
Pros:
- 10-11k, much more affordable
- amazing study abroad program
- CAS Psychology major much more aligned with what I want (cog sci concentration, research orientated)
- NYC!! lots of opportunities and things to do, independence
- guaranteed housing 4 yrs
Cons:
- STEM might not be as strong as UMich (i think, pls lmk)
- heard things about people not being able to make friends (im pretty social so idk)
- living expenses $$$
tiebreaking considerations
is STEM/research at UMich significantly better that itβs worth +13k? dental/med school matriculation rates? welcoming > cutthroat environment. i know people slander NYU because of its price, but is it a good place to be in my situation? i dont mind urban campuses at all
(i am also very used to cold weather)
thanks!
