Schools: American University & George Washington University
Intended Major: Political Science, possible double major in Environmental Studies
Similarities: In D.C., good political science programs, medium-sized student body

American University
School 1 Pros:

  • Slightly more rural than GW
  • Contiguous campus
  • I got a nice internship program
  • A bit cheaper overall and they gave me slightly more merit aid

School 1 Cons:

  • The Core Curriculum requirements are vile
  • Less opportunities for study abroad it seems like
  • Less options for courses generally

George Washington University
School 2 Pros:

  • Super light general education requirements
  • Wider selection of courses both in and outside of my major
  • Could be easier to network due to proximity to the capitol

School 2 Cons:

  • Decent bit more than American depending on how much financial aid they give me
  • City campus
  • I hear bad things about the dorms 💀

Tiebreaking considerations:

  • Need-based financial aid
  • Campus feel

GW has pretty good dorms I think

It really depends on which dorm. The Vern has more spacious and cheaper dorms but aren’t necessarily better. Foggy Bottom campus includes ones that are almost like prison cells lmao; but an adaptable person should be able to handle it. There are a wide variety of dorm houses, some old some new. Commuting from The Vern’s dorms to classes at Foggy Bottom might be a hassle if the Vex is stuck in traffic

Either way GW > American imo

It has an incredibly hostile culture toward Jewish and pro Israel students. I know multiple Jews who have gone and transferred out

It has a very active Students For Justice in Palestine, ironically enough my friend who goes to AU is an organizer of it

#

But like AU is a great school no doubt I have friends going their and I have friends going to GW

#

Both are great choices just do what feels right to you
