i'm confident about attending both schools and I know I have the potential to be successful in both. i am not able to lean towards a particular school, so i'd appreciate any recommendations and help i can get!

Schools: uiuc and ohio state university
Intended major: i've been accepted for aerospace engineering at uiuc and mechanical engineering at osu
Similarities: Both have top engineering programs, uiuc is a bit closer to home but they're both a reasonable (convenient) distance away, similar cost (i live in illinois but i got a $13.5k scholarship from osu to combat the out of state fee)

uiuc pros:

  • in state
  • i know its top 10 in aerospace engineering programs which is great
  • great job placement post-graduation
  • i've known a ton of people who've gone there and had a good experience
  • visited campus and its really pretty and the facilities are great too

uiuc cons

  • expensive for an in state school - around $37k
  • i've heard that its hard to change majors here. i'm already considering changing to mechanical engineering here, but if you know whether its easy to change majors here or not, please lmk!

osu pros

  • another top university for engineering
  • might be able to get in to the honors college after the first semester (if i choose to become a scholar rn)
  • $13.5k scholarship
  • know a couple people who went there and they also had good experiences
  • amazing campus culture and school spirit

osu cons

  • cost comes to about $40k (i would consider it the same as uiuc because its a minor diference)
  • havent visited campus yet so i cant make any judgements on my experience of campus life
  • is it difficult to switch majors here too? (just in case)

With the info u gave, osu has no edge over UIUC at any aspect

UIUC

#

it is just better at it

#

from what I have heard uiuc isn't harder at changing majors than anywhere else

#

maybe it is "harder" than "brown"

#

well I am comparing to public unis anyways

For engineering, UIUC >> OSU. But if you really want to leave IL, then OSU.

shrewd fulcrum
#

i would def say uiuc > osu especially for engineering

#

i'm from ohio & i'm at osu pretty often, have also visited uiuc, and i think the campuses are pretty similar

#

large but still walkable, mostly normal solid facilities (no crazy historical architecture like the ivies for example), some cool modern buildings thrown in

#

if campus culture/school spirit/sports are a dealbreaker for you then osu is better, but it doesn't sound like that's your #1 priority & i'd say uiuc overall
