waitlists are totally “play it by ear.” no school knows how many people they’re going to take off the waitlist until their class is completely full. there’s no set number of waitlist admits, it completely depends on how many accepted students enroll and how many people admitted from the waitlist accept their offer. that’s why it’s such a tedious process

unless a school informs you that they’re done taking people from the waitlist, there will always be more waitlist admits because they want a completely full class
