UT Austin (in state ) cs Vs UMich cs
Computer Science
Similarities:*
Both are big public state schools
Both have amazing sports culture
Both are top cs programs although mich ranks a tad higher
UT Pros:

  • Really anything that’s important to you can be included here
  • 1 hr from home
  • Amazing cs program
  • Austin hub to tech opportunities
  • A bunch of student bodies and opportunities to meet many different cultures
  • my whole best friend group is going there !
  • I get tuition for free ( low income)
    UT Cons:
  • I kind of wanted to get out of Texas
  • ITS HOT BUT IK THAT ALR
  • HOUSING IS SO EXPENSIVE
    UMich Pros:
  • amazing cs program
  • friendly town ( Ann arbour)
  • great sports culture
  • im not sure what else I’ve gone to UT so much and it’s so close to home Ik more about it
    School 2 Cons:
  • ITS FREAKING COLD
  • Apparently the dorms are kind of far from campus and things are a decent walk
  • not as much opportunities in that town (but can go out of state for internships etc)
  • Out of state tuition (don’t know aid yet)
    Tiebreaking considerations:
  • Just how happy are students there ?
  • Which is more prestigious?
  • I would like a more diverse campus tbh but it’s not all ends all
  • I want somewhere with a bunch of dif foods ( huge foodie)
  • I just like them Both a lot and I don’t want to make the wrong decision
    ( my whole fam want me to go to UT and in starting to lean into it more and fall In love with it but idk if it’s just cause of them like their kind of making me feel that way)

Prestige wise I would say they're almost the same, with UMich getting slight edge. Actual program for CS wise, they're essentially the same (ik the rankings say UMich is higher but it's negligible). Umich does have one of the highest tuition costs for a public school, at like 55k which is ridiculous. You said you're low income, so i'm assuming you'll get aid but Umich being a public school won't give you as much. I honestly don't think you could make a "wrong decision" in this case, but I would personally take UT Austin if i was in your shoes

okay will note that ! I move on to the next round for terry scholarship for UT so if I get that as well I think I may def go with UT

UT austin. i mean seems like financial aid is a factor and i wouldnt dig urself into a hole of debt, so go in state man
