#Purdue vs UCSD data science - CS?

I think UCSD is a lot better
especially cause you're in california
but getting in is most of the struggle with UCSD
hm really
what if i said i dont have a preference between california or indiana
or does california just help with jobs more
yes massively
even if u dont have a preference between the two
being so close to tech helps a lot
and if ur into data science, UCSD will have a lot of opportunities on the applied sciences side of that since their such a reserach powerhouse
its really hard
maybe i'll decide after public ivy day
Click on the year you entered UC San Diego to see a list of your major requirements: 2023-2024 (MA30) Catalog Requirements 2022-2023 (MA30) Catalog Requirements
this one
yta
ya
ur right
oo i see
do u know anything about the curriculum? like how much is math and how much is cs
ye so its basically a math degree with heavy cs elective reqs
which is better suited for DS but not great for SWE
great for theoretical CS though
so like AI research (which a lot of DS ppl are into)
hm interesting
i'll have to research more
seems like math+cs is more theoretical/math whilst ds has more application
ya you would take the stats electives
@crisp bone
yeah, unverified but rumour is its ~10% now
or one can do stats and prob(my alt major)
Switch to UCSD cs. Cuz if you don’t get in u still have Purdue as a backup
If you’d rather go to UCSD over Purdue you could also do Math-CS at UCSD (not restricted so u can switch), but you’d have a harder time getting into your CS classes
what do u mean by math-cs is unrestricted?
theres no cap on it so its easy to switch to
like no restriction on the number of people who can take the major bc its not as much in demand as the restricted majors (like pure cs)
ahh i see thanks!
uscd is better but if u dont get cs there go purdue
i switched to ucsd cs
good
UCSD ON TOP
Also they have a seperate college, solely concentrating on data science. this sounds a lot better than having cs, stats, or engineer majors all clumped up together
also im biased. ucsd is my dream school
UCSD ❤️
ironically enough (some smart ppl in #💭-majors-and-minors can probably verify) having a cs + stats degree clumped together is usually better for data science
soooo
idc ucsd is better
