#Case Western Reserve University (2023-2024)

thats crazy
I remember like last year a girl got a letter from Wellesley I think cause she got a B 😭
i might end up with a B minus in english this sem
I doubt Harvard would want to rescind either
They send a letter of concern that’s what happened at my school
To an Ivy admit
Where you have to given an explanation as to why
Just got an email back and I should be getting my descion today yayyy
Good luck!
Does anyone know if case western sends acceptance packages?
I hope so
They do
Yes, 2
I think the second one is if you commit but I’m not sure
i got one for ea
same
Idk
CWRU offered to pay for me to go there
But my mom would have to take off work
😭
Idk if CWRU is worth it for me or not
I’m doing BME on premed track so the hospitals, labs, research opportunities, and volunteer work at Case look absolutely amazing
But I didn’t get as good aid/scholarships as I had hoped for
I’m considering this vs BME at UC Davis (I’m in state), one of my current options
For the most part go where the money is
someone in this thread who works at the cwru fin aid office said the initial fin aid packages are under promising and its very likely you'll get more aid once fafsa processes
so dont give up hope and dont commit yet!
Thanks for sharing this info!
18acceptances who r u bro
cracked intl asian not in stem 🗣️
business?
uc berkeley/ucla
although usc ea acceptance rate is lower
thanks :)
is cwru worth it for a biochem major? coa was calculated to be around 50k
What’s your alternatives?
cwru is very well known for pre-med
pitt ( in state) , purdue, ucsd and davis oos, and south florida on a full ride
Congrats great choices!
not 50k worth it 💀💀💀💀💀
i need to make a thread cuz i’m not breaking the t20
bro you have a full ride
follow the money PLEASE
if you do your best and work hard, i have no doubt you’ll be successful
you don’t wanna be paying 200k for an undergrad degree
Take out the 200k loan. Then transfer the balance to credit card. Then file for bankruptcy. Then use your significant others credit to purchase things
💀💀
bro speaks from experience 🔥
Yo. Bad advice. Please delete
You can take gov student loans and work in public service and after some years debt will get wiped clean
yea i’ll figure it out trust
Parents not helping out?
Interesting
I don't think so in my case but interesting
I’m totally counting this as waitlisted
They’ll probably send out my decision once it has been resolved.
It’s been three days since everyone got their decision sad
they will be
but i still do think ill be taking on abt 100k of loans
if i go to an oos or private school
Wait so u just didn’t get a decision
Yikes. That’s a lot. Save save save
Yea i may be cooked
Ofc i would work during college
And stuff
So it ll prolly be fine
is there a cwru discord
No until they get my school report
🙂
jfc he has a full ride
why should he take out hella loans just to go case bruh😭😭
Imma be real no normal job is helping you outta 100k unless it's a career post bach job lol
ong
when is eleanor & andrew squire
coming ouy
i heard soething about grade deflation for premeds
is that true
I believe so yeah
I mean it is extremely rigorous for premed that's what the school is known for
Kinda like how Boston u does stem majors
they said finalists would be invited to a competition in March so I'm assuming whoever was a finalist got notified???
i also applied but didn't get anything lol
No lol
85 is an A in both intro chem
I mean it’s not easy but like it’s not deflated imo
this is true I spoke to finaid myself and they said this
Case is the best place to do BME pre med I’m ngl
I can’t seem to convince my son to seriously consider case over GT and uva.
Do you happen to if some students are doing rotc at case?
Isn’t GT and UVA more well-known than case? That’s prob why.
I honestly haven’t seen it but I haven’t looked for it either
what’s his major?
Forget the rankings. I just think there is more opportunity at case
He chose chemE
ya I would say it’s a lot easier to get opportunities here
As a dual enrollment student at GeorgiaTech I bagged a nasa internship from GlobalExpo
But I don’t think it makes a significance
I’m sure case has similar things
but honestly for chemE I would pick the cheapest school
^
bc u have to go to grad school anyways
he plans on doing rotc so money is covered
then he should pick the place he likes the most
he has to live there for 4 yrs
I don’t like living here 💀 but the benefits outweigh that part
personally
but I do know a few ppl here who are transferring bc they don’t like Cleveland that much
Though a bit of a warning if he wants to go to GeorgiaTech, social environmental is pretty boring.
It’s not as bad as CalTech but still.
case probably has a worse social environment this is a very nerd school
Atlanta has buckhead
Really? Didn’t know that
yes it’s so lame here
there’s like only a couple social frats/sororities the rest are professional
and then half of the parties are closed list parties
And too many guys at Georgia tech. 60%. Used to be over 70% when I was there
Like whitelisted parties?
like u can only get in if ur on the list
Son needs to get married and get off my books
Haha we were there this past summer!
the ring by spring thing is lowkey really true there
I saw so many very very young married couples
as a californian i know so many people whose parents fell in love at ucd (mine included)
you know it works because somehow my dad found love
When Californians consider UCDavis a safety, but then I’m a Georgia resident that got rejected
My boy just said no to case again 😦
Yeah i think you were who I was referencing
Wait are u a parent
Yes! I think I am more exited than my kid on this decision process
Son is my investment. It’s been a huge negative investment so far
And want to see good returns
💀💀💀💀
Best case ever, no pun intended
Hahahaha
I did 1 year of post doc at UGA. Campus is so big
I think I paid $300/month for 1 bedroom apartment
Ok great
For students who do research/volunteer with the medical facilities, how do they commute to those places? Is it safe to walk, or does CWRU have a shuttle service that they normally take?
Agreed with some research that I’ve done, still waiting on fin aid and other decisions tho.
I’m in state for Davis, live around Sac/Bay Area too. Explain this
Most of them are right next to Case so probably walk, maybe scooter or bike would be my best guess
Great location
3 accepted wtf
none of us consider davis a safety anymore
its like 30-40 percent lol
It’s definitely not 40%
WHERE IS MY CASE WESTERN DECISION >:0
IT HAS BEEN 4 DAYS
I am a special case and have no idea how to emoji the poll
haha special case
I like my own pun
I am a special case
But since I’m probably the last one getting reviewed, it means I’ll be taken more seriously yay
Good luck!!! They are wrapping up the final touches on the financial package for you.
Wait seriously?
Cause like I can't just screenshot the letter and show it to her
Not that she knows what case even is
but it was kinda delayed for me like others in a2c got it before me but also there were some issues with my mailing address so
that's nice!
What’s case acceptance package like
Hype
Right
Anyone know what CS is like
Basically what I've seen is it's good but nothing crazy
They have a good Co op program tho
Basically between umass Amherst and case western rn
Amherst is better for cs I believe
According to CWRU they're pouring a lot of money Into their cs and engineering programs rn but still
The biggest benefit would be cwrus Co op as far as I know tbh
https://www.reddit.com/r/cwru/s/U7N9QH5FR9
Ironically someone else on Reddit was making this exact same decision
the out of state tuition is so much bro wtf
even with a scholarship id have to pay like 60K
I think that’s most people/parents
Email them probably
Umass is building a CS building ready by my soph year so that’s good too
But rankings aren’t everything
still no cwru decision hopefully tomorrow or Saturday tho
yeah... just accepting the rejection atp cuz what?
I guess we’re special case
Honestly I’d rather get rejected than ghosted.
I want this to be over with
What is the max merit aid given out this year? can you get full ride?
there's a full tuition scholarship that has a separate application
max merit aid iirc is $45k/y for people in stem and $32.5k/y for others
they still havent gotten back 😭
why is it so much higher for stem lol
r they trying to get more stem majors or something
yeah there's a shortage
WHERE IS MY DECISION!?
guys where is the fianancial aid for case
at the bottom of the decision letter you can switch to the financial aid one
bruh i dont have any option
ig i gotta wait
I still don’t have my case western decision. Brah
email them
@torn quiver any updates?
Nope lollll
No it wouldn't
I harassed rose hulman for like 3 weeks because they wouldn't give me mine
I got an invitation to open house, but i was waitlisted. What does it mean?
Nothing
Most colleges do open houses whether you get in or not
Thank you for your continued interest in Case Western Reserve University. We remain optimistic we will be able to offer admission to a number of qualified students from the waitlist.
Beginning Friday, March 29, and every Friday throughout the spring, we will be in touch via email to provide you with an opportunity to keep Case Western Reserve informed of your plans and your interest in remaining on the waitlist.
In order to make sure students have as much information as possible when deciding to accept a place on the waitlist, we are providing estimated financial aid offers based on information from the CSS Profile to students, if completed.
Should we be in a position to grant you admission from the waitlist, you should expect to receive a financial aid offer similar to what is listed below. Please note, an updated financial aid offer will appear in your applicant status portal if you are granted admission from the waitlist.
Whats that?
This is crazy
Am I in or no?
Nah I got it too
i got a 40k scholarship included in mine? how does that make sense?
is that sent to everyone whos on the waitlist?
Yep seems so
i got 22.5k 😭
Case cares a lot about yield so they're trying to keep you as interested as possible while you're waitlisted
So I guess they're just giving fin aid estimates to everyone on the wait-list to be like "heyyy if you stay and we let you in you'll get x amount of money!"
hiiii
no decision yet lol
They said early April lol
Looks like I’ll be committing to case western
tuff
case western is good
you can major in anything u want
I applied under engineering
Hoping to double in aero n mech
if anyone has pros/cons of cwru for computer engineering or in general please share
Not sure about the program but from what I've read they're heavy on trying to get co ops
Unlike other schools where it's entirely on you to get a co op it seems like the managers here also try to reach out to employers for you
If u go to their admitted students day program you’ll also get a shirt
if they accepted me to PPSP i would go 😭
Close knit, distinct culture, focus on experiential learning, people don’t care about sports/school spirit (pro or con)
look up thinkbox it’s like a computer engineers dream
or any engineer tbh
there are TOO many ppl here for admitted students day wtf
swarms of ppl
Me yoo
I’m coming on like Thursday
Today wasn’t admitted it was open house
Yesterday was just admitted
R u fr
Wtf
Wayyyy more ppl today
Just a fyi none of the dorms looks like the one that they show u
Yeah that’s why, yesterday was just the admitted students but today anyone could go
oh ya makes sense
Wait what
The one in smith house?
Yes 💀
Are they smaller
the doubles r actually bigger
But like worse quality
not wooden floors
it’s not that bad though like u survive
oh and none of the freshman dorms have AC unless u have a medical accommodation
they have heating though
and openable windows
so u can just put a fan on the open window part
and shovel colder air in
the quality of the dorms vary significantly
if ur committed to case know that juniper > mistletoe > cedar mag >>>>> clark
Yea I’ve heard this
Not committed but after being here the past couple days I think there’s a strong chance I will
oh nice what major
Computer science
and ya same visiting case made me fall in love with it
cs is good here
I’m taking the intro cs class and it’s fun
we have to make a calculator for our current project 💀
that can do derivatives and such
if u took apcs u skip this class
it’s really fucking boring if u don’t have a car or don’t know someone with a car
unless ur willing to take the RTA but im not
You can’t have a car freshman right
Oh shit
I have a car but it’s sitting at my house bc I thought I’d just use the RTA but it’s like too unsafe for me 💀
so I’m bringing my car next semester
U can get around campus and little Italy and the surrounding area using the cwru shuttles which r rly nice
and this thing called safe ride that runs from 6p-2am or something and goes in a 1 mile radius
like a free Uber
I can’t find on their website
not really Uber it’s campus cars but ya
This information applies to students only. Students may purchase Fall semester parking permits using the Online Parking System, beginning Mid to late...
Yea I’ve heard about that
I’m pretty sure parking is expensive which is why I didn’t want to do it
Does it say freshman okay on here
My friend who goes here said you can’t but he might have just been wrong
Central Campus LOT Parking Rates 2023-24 S-55, S-10 196.70 13 146.80 S-52 123.90 1A, 25, S-29, 33, 48, 51, 52A, 52B, S-53 113.80 Near Rim LOT ...
I know a lot of ppl with cars here lol
That r freshman
there’s a parking lot near us
Wtf I have to pay $904 to park my car
that’s so annoying
speaking of safe ride I’m taking one rn to work 😭
What kind of stuff do you do if you have a car
Oh you can just go into the city and stuff. You can also do this with the RTA but again I dont feel safe doing so
What’s the RTA
Public transportation
Bus system
U get a “free” pass (u pay for it but it’s included in tuition and u can’t opt out)
It’s on ur student id
i live in the cleveland area and you basically need a car if you wanna go anywhere
like wheter that be going to restaurants and stuff on the west side (like ohio city has a lot of stuff) or just like going to target to get stuff it makes things a lot easier
VERY TRUE
I have been so fucking bored bro
and also unlike bigger cities like NYC where the congestion is always really bad and a car doesn't really make sense over using public transportation using a car is actually pretty good
make friends with cars
i have spent so much money on case parking garages lmao
like i go to thinkbox a lot
oh rly what do u work on
and i always have to pay that stupid 10 dollar fee at veale
i'm working on making a gokart right now actually lol
oh wtf
but like before i worked with the ISSACs people on making embedded IoT systems
like stuff with the water department too
like i got to go on the roofs of a lot of random tall case buildings to see the radio towers get put in for the IoT networks lol
ye i was actually there yesterday to teach a friend how to weld since he's gonna work with me on the go kart but there were so many visitors lol
Ya open house
A lot of ppl have off today for Good Friday so this weekend is the most attended admitted students thing
I went this weekend last yr
ya I don’t want to go to the med school though
they use hololens instead of cadaver labs
hololens is cool and all but like idk I want to do gross anatomy
also it’s so expensive
cleveland*
I don’t like it here but it’s not like that bad
some of the ppl in my classes r literally transferring bc it makes them so depressed
but I don’t think it’s that bad
yeah i feel you
I’m just from Houston so it’s very different for me
and I’m from a suburb so im not used to cities
i worked with some fourth years last year and they seemed to have some opinions
yes the opinions r strong
idk depends on what you're used to
I like case campus at least
yeah i think the weather is actually fine
like it's been really mild these last several years
no crazy snowstorms
Ya I expected it to be worse
wasn’t that bad
I got a good coat so it’s dine
Fine
yeah a good coat is a must
i think if you come from like LA or something and you're not used to having to wear coats it becomes kinda miserable
Ya I’m from somewhere where winter is 60F so 💀💀💀
lmaoo
ah nice
what's crazy is that i have never taken the RTA before untill this year
it’s so funny
eventhough i've been here for like
Rly
14 years
my sister took it for the "experience" and she said that her friend got hit on like 3 times while on the train
Ya my TA said that too
but overall i think you get to meet some interesting people lol
idk
it's very different from like the nyc metro system where no one gives a damn about anyone around them
I have like a severe health condition so I think it’s not the best for me to take the RTA
I took the metro and it was fine tbh
in nyc
I just don’t like buses idk why
ah makes sense
yeah they're kinda jolty
ngl i have no clue how you would survive in cleveland without a car
bro the green link started moving before I sat down and I flew forward 💀
oop
ya i will pay that $900 idc
For parking
it’s worth it
Also it’s annoying that u have to pay for parking everywhere here
Yeah I have one
Just for Cleveland?
I got it sophomore yr of hs I think
Yes but it’s like very few ppl
i mean it's basically just in the university circle area
they just don’t like Cleveland
Nah downtown it’s like that too
oh yeah that
But that’s just city stuff
yeah
In Houston u also have to pay for parking
i think if you wanna get food and stuff just go to ohio city
how far is that
there's so much good stuff there
like 10-15 minutes ish
What’s Ohio city
oh great
I’ll visit next semester
I’m pretty sure I had to pay like $100 round trip for an Uber to my dr appointment last semester 😭
like it's on the west side where basically there's a whole bunch of restaurants and night life and just things to do
one of the college cousnelors at my school lives there and was like she was just taking a walk and two shirtless guys were riding bikes around and were yelling good vibes lmao
oh god that's a lot
Omg one thing that’s funny here is that there are so many missionaries and stuff
maybe i should drive uber in cleveland lmao
I’ll defo try to bring a car then
Yes so many students use it here
Or do Uber eats
since ur not 21
yeah. like if you drive really west there's a huge amount of red necks
ah yeah
Actually I’m pretty sure no one tips so probably don’t do it 💀
lmaoo
Bro was screaming about women not being in the draft so they have to carry babies
like ??? 😭😭😭😭
my parents used to run a restaurant in the cleveland area and a core memory is when one of our delivery drivers came back traumatized after driving in east cleveland with his car windows all shot through
with bullet holes
Wtf
Ya a student was held at gunpoint and their car stolen a few weeks ago
yeah idk this was like 10 years ago
and my coworker’s daughter was actually in front of the guys that stole the car at the red light with her baby in the car
she was like wtf do I do
lmao my dad got carjacked in cleveland before and he said he just found the car parked on the street 2 weeks later so he got in and just drove it away
Is it rly common
Btw how crowded is the campus gym usually
No clue but there’s like 2 or 3 on campus
so u should be fine
I’ve never heard anyone complain
not really. my dad also delivered food sometimes to help out with the restaruant so i think he had a much higher exposure to it lmao. it also only happened once in like 20 years so not that common
ohhh I see
Ngl im ok w that as long as Theres the heater
yeah no you're def good
Oh trust me the heaters definitely work
They are very warm
it's not worse than anywhere else in the US
I keep the window cracked
Wait I’m sorry if this is a dumb question
But
The admitted students thing
Is it overnight or lkke you go off campus n come back the next day
Bc on Reddit I saw sum ab overnight
But that was years ago
You have to find ur own housing
At like a hotel
Yes it’s 2 days
Ok ok yeat we have our own housing
not very. my brother went there and he basicaly explained that one of the gyms are smaller/older but is close to the dorms. then, there's one that's like really far away from the dorms but is really big and nice (veale)
But I saw on Reddit and I was like wait what
Thursday Friday Saturday I think or just Thursday Friday
Thurs fri
but it says on the invitation how long it is and what’s the schedule
my brother just rode an electric ongboard around but idk how good of an idea that is since one of his friends lost an eyeball after he got hit by a car on his electric longboard
U do whatever u want basically
There’s a bunch of things to do and an app with a list of stuff u can do
With times and u can make a schedule
Omg THATS fun
Ya
My dad’s scared I won’t make friends LOL
There’s tours and open houses in certain departments and lectures like pre health etc
Is this the same thing as happened today and yesterday?
Oh I didn’t 💀
U don’t like get grouped with ppl
No like if I decide to enroll
Oh do u mean orientation week
yes u will make friends if u put in any kind of effort
orientation week is like the best time to make friends
Ya like this
Basically just bunch of events
U can choose stuff to do there’s a whole long list
That’s fun wow
ughhhh I have to go work now wtf 😭😭😭😭
Most of them were just nice info and you won’t really meet people unless you just talk to random people
Ya
But at the social they basically just put all of the kids who go into a room with board games and cotton candy and shit and you just talk to people
I talked to random student volunteers and asked them where the best place to get food was
They were right
LOL
Help that sounds so odd
The social was great I met some people and we got along great and exchanged info and stuff
THATS SO FUNNY IDK WHT
It was actually so cool ngl lmao
I mean it was an hour and in the middle they were like hey we are starting a new game of jeopardy and we played jeopardy which was about like case stuff lmao
Was easy to talk to people because like no parents or even adults except the current students walking around answering questions, chance to actually talk to people
Oh I see
Idk I just joined some group of people and had fun talking to them
I mean the second day didn’t really have much it was mostly a repeat of stuff from the day before
Ohh ok
The second day is open to both admitted and just prospective students
It’s from like 9:30am-6pm but you’ll prob only want some events, there aren’t really that many
That’s a lot Omg
You’ll likely have a bunch of free time still
Did you get to try the food
Didn’t try any dining halls but I’ve heard it’s like okay
ya they’re ok
not great
there’s good food on campus u just have to like make an effort to go there bc the dining hall is super close to dorms
I grew up in NYC so I'm used to cities though idk how similar nyc and Cleveland are to each other
Why do ppl dislike it
I noticed it fell in rankings too WHICH HAS NO BEARING ON HIW I FEEL AB CASE BC RANKING DOESNT MATTER I was just curious
Cleveland is apparently a big problem
My mom doesn't like that it's in Cleveland
Lmaoo
Much much less homeless people, for anyone from a city, this places feels very safe. It’s mainly just sheltered people who feel otherwise. There’s also quite literally like 14 police departments covering campus, feels like a mini militarized zone. Never felt unsafe here
Sure if you venture out into East Cleveland you might run into issues, but downtown is fine and I’m regularly walking near campus at 3am. Just be street smart and don’t stop to speak to strangers at 3am. They also have saferides after 6pm
University circle, the area around campus, is pretty self contained so it doesn’t really have the feel of a big city like nyc tbh. Downtown is the more “classic” city vibe, but there’s little reason to go there on a daily basis
@trail current what’s ur major
I’m a law student graduating this year, my cousin is a freshman doing neuroscience here though
Nice! How does ur cousin feel ab it
The perk he likes the most is the food plan because there are about 26 options including the dining halls so he almost never visits the actual dining hall. WiFi he complained about not connecting quickly in the dorms, but being fine once connected. Class/professor wise, mixed. Overall decent experience though
Professors are easy to reach out to and receptive. Getting a work study job is hard to fit into your schedule unless you specifically plan for it
What ab the class/professors does he dislike
also what ab like internships and stuff? Are they accessible?
also what are some good clubs to join as a premed
Uh I don’t have too many specific details sorry about that, someone who’s in the premed track is probs more helpful here. All I know is that it’s quite easy to reach out and get opportunities, it’s just hard fitting it into your schedule if you don’t have any free days/large blocks of time off. Class wise it’s mainly just the teaching style he says is hit or miss. Club wise not certain either, one of the benefits here though is that clubs are bountiful and free to join, no application process unlike other schools
Do you guys think cwru is good for out of state students?
I mean it's a private
Instate oos it's all kind of the same
Depends on your costs
Like to get in?
if i could get any second options in school x-vs-y, it would help, thanks!
Ya it’s great
Ive done clinical research, shadowing, volunteering, and clinical job the past 2 semesters
really
and ur a freshman?
how do u get opportunities? do u just reach out?
aslso are u ppsp
does anyone know when the andrew and eleanor squire scholarship results are coming out?
Did they ever do the interviews?
idk i havent heard anything from them since i submitted the application in feb
Yeah I helped a senior apply to it as well and they never got back to him even after he sent an email asking about it
Didn’t hear back about any of the scholarships actually and the website says finalists would know by April 1 so idk if they’re just delayed, or if they only notify winners (for other scholarships too, not just the full tuition one)
Well I believe they are partnered with a hospital so that their students can do stuff there
So that's probably why
is case considered prestihious when applying to med school?
I would imagine the school is literally focused on that
They have a 60% ar to med school as opposed to the national average of 40
Anyone heard back about the CWRU scholarships (Andrew and Eleanor Squire Scholarship, Smith, FIRST etc)?
ya; I’m a freshman; I applied for it on the websites or I asked professors; not ppsp
shadowing
- Cleveland clinic and university hospitals both have sections on their websites dedicated to this
- or you can just cold email doctors
volunteering - Cleveland clinic and UH both have programs for this. make sure to apply in August if u want to do it
- there’s also a center at cwru that has volunteering opportunities
- there are a lot of clubs that offer volunteering stuff
clinical - I am an EMT and I also have a few thousand hours of clinical experience so it was much easier for me but I work in the neuro icu as a PCNA
- you can join cwru EMS to get ur EMT cert and be a volunteer EMT
- you can be a PCNA, ekg tech, MA, whatever else if u have certs for it; PCNA doesn’t require a cert
- apply on university hospitals and Cleveland clinic website
research - ask profs they are very willing to let u be in their lab
- SOURCE is a Google sheet on CWRU’s website with opportunities
- cold emailing Cleveland clinic and university hospitals
- there are flyers around campus when new research opportunities pop up
Omg thank you so much this is beyond helpful. Ddi you get those few thousand hours of clinical experiencE in high school or during college?
Also is it difficult to get a good gpa as a premed?
At cade
Case
Like is it hard basically
High school
Not rly
my highest grades have been in the pre med reqs
also 88 is an A in intro chem
Ok I have a bunch of shadowing hours so hopefully that does something if anything at all
Oh good
hey i'm a first year at cwru - the culture here is overall collaborative w/ few occasional ppl who wanna compete against u but you'll meet them anywhere regardless imo. there's often study sessions/supplemental instructor hosted for more of the STEM foundational classes.
how well you do in pre-med classes depends on your background in STEM + how much effort you study. I took chem last sem w/ bunch of premeds and 88 was considerd an A, 75+ was a B lol
- am open to answering any questions/sharing my experiences lol
hi! thank you for the info 🫶 . for the admitted student days, would you say there's a dress code we should follow or is comfy/casual attire allowed
Not a current student but when I went to admitted students day everyone was in casual clothing except maybe one or two people.
If u do events like the campus tours, be prepared for a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes
It’s mainly an info session and you’re already in! Nothing too crazy, no one to impress, it was v relax
oh okay, thank you! that helps a lot
Was it freezing cold 😢
Is there a discord for enrolled studebts
It had snowed prior so there was still snow on the ground but I don’t think it was that bad
But then again I’m from nyc n I would say the weather was v similar
I went to the first session I wanna say about a month ago
Yes I can send it to you
can u send it to me too
Do u guys recommend skipping the intro Chem course if u have the IB credit
Does Case send information about the app that you can use to plan the admitted students day? If so, when do they send out the info?
Yes
Do med schools accept that
Bc I read they only accept ap credit?
Idk ugh
Oh I didn’t even think about that
I have no idea
I mean I took mech, e&m, and modern in hs and chose to retake them bc of the free 4.0 so 😭😭
just do that tbh if ur worried
Yeah I was gonna retake for the gpa boost LOL
That’s not looked down upon right
Nope
Not at all
it just looks like ur doing it at a university level
Ok great
Anybody heard back from the Squire full tuition scholarship?
They didn't send anything in March so I assume I was not a finalist but I didn't even get a rejection letter
ik this is completely dependant on applicant and specific situations but how good is Case's aid for EFC of around 70k per annum (but higher valued business investments)
also im waitlisted and an intl student, so i get an I-20 and a visa from another university, and then lets say i get accepted from the waitlist here at Case, does anyone how any clue how that works?
thanks in advance
I thought they sent out estimated aid packages to waitlisted people
i emailed them a few days ago and the admissions office got back to me saying all finalists have been notified as of this morning, and they only notify finalists
No that stuff doesn't happen till summer anyway
You will have a net cost of 70k
Case is full need met
If your EFC is 70k then your net cost should be around 70k
My EFC is 46k and I pay like 46k nearly
This is good for ppl who have low EFCs but if u have a high EFC then 😭😭😭
Huge asterisk on that
LMAO
Their calculations probably aren't going to be the same as the fafsas
They told me 3k is the minimum that they would go to so if your efc is like mine a -1500 then 3k is probably going to be what you pay
3k doesn't sound like a lot but In my case that's 1/6 of my mom yearly income
If your EFC is -1500 you’re getting a Pell grant and a fafsa refund
Which will cover all the 3k I believe
Also you are expected to pay for college as well not just ur parents
And you can make 3k/yr with a campus job
I did that's when they told me the 3k was the minimum 😭 lemme see if I can get the email
I know people getting refunds from cwru
So they r liar
Yeah the student contribution is annoying
They did say they would "review later when FAFSA is received" but that doesn't bode well when they straight tell me that I'm already at the minimum
From the css
Ya I would appeal aid and be like how tf u expect my mom to shovel out 1/6 her salary 😭😭
well
My EFC was 1/3 my parents salary
So 💀
She has 2 other kids to take care of so idk
If I was an only child it wouldn't be as absurd maybe
But uhh
Ya I have one sibling in college
Both of mine r still in elementary 😭
When they confirm w FAFSA I might ask but I'm not really
Expecting much
If I'm already at the "maximum"
apply to scholarships
Like random ones
there are a LOT for ppl with low EFCs
Most scholarships have financial consideration
ATP I'm planning to just tank the loans and stuff the first 2 years and then hope internships and the like save me post sophomore year
And if ur EFC is -1500 then u are like the max financial consideration
Ya also if u get a non campus job u can make more money
Like I can make $1800/month if I were less lazy
with my job
but I make like $900/month bc I’m not gonna work 24h/wk with 20 credits 😭😭😭
I’m using my stipend from my research internship this summer to pay off 1/3 of my private loan
No I took out a 12k private loan
This semester
I took out federal loans and used my 529 plan for the first semester and part of the second semester
O
You're premed aren't you
You can ask for a subsidized university loan to replace the expected student contribution
O I was boutta say premed and loans r like synonymous
Yeah might do that
Subsidized is like
No interest?
Or low
Lower than the plus loan fs
Ya
and ur mom would have to take out the plus loan
instead ur taking out the loan
which is better for ur mom
If I'm lucky I won't have to worry about interest
I think the average salary for co ops they said was 20k
Ya u could realistically pay it off before u graduate
That should cover
Idk if this was like total or per year but either way
Co ops are a full semester or year
u dont do classes during co ops
Semester but if I do 2 I'd be extending it a year
Yeah I plan on trying to do 2
Which will extend me a year but since I'm not paying for it it doesn't really matter
The other option is internship but as far as I can tell it doesn't pay as much since it's not like a full time job
nvm i think imma withdraw. apprntly 0 aid 😭
is what they told me
oh wait mb. my efc isnt 70k, annual total income is 70k. mb mb
ye i put down 25
but then they told me i will hv to pay full cost
or discuss loan options or smth
As a PCNA?
@knotty hinge should I commit or does it not matter if I wait a week or two
It won't matter because housing n allat isn't until the summer
K it didn’t like let you do stuff once you did?
No
There's the fly ins I guess but
Think the deadline for those passed already anyway
ANYONE GOING TO ADMITTED STUDENTS DAY NEXT WEEK!!!??????
LOL WHAT
i think most hot ppl will be ending up at either ivys or state schools
not cwru
but im sure there are some
Be the change you want to see in the world
ya
r u intl?
😭😭😭
are there hot ppl?
yeahh
i dont even have much assets beyond my only house lol
the COA is higher than familys total annual income idek
declined my offer 🥲
hi i just wanna ask if theres any current pre-med students at CWRU?
i just wanna know if theres any challenge that youre facing rn, or whether you woukd recommend me to commit for pre-med
what are some pros and cons about CWRU pre-med?
@main vector
I don't think they're premed anymore but they used to be
Nani why did you drop out of pre-med
Most of cwru is pre med
@sweet nacelle
@main vector I cant find the SOURCE spreadsheet thing
wow that is super detailed thank you

💀
Guys is it normal to still not have a desicion?
no
What should I do?
It’s funny that I still don’t have a decision to this day.
Email them
We got ghosted nice
We are useless 😭
Just declined my admission so good luck to all of the waitlisted people!
just committed : )
They said they'll give me my decision when my fafsa is processed
Had to correct it before so I hope it goes through
My fafsas been processed and they haven't given me anything
same
what the chinck is case doing
UMich is better anyway ;-;
real but i don't think i can go because it's expensive and too far from home 😭
Oh 😦
anyone got off the waitlist yet?
I just declined my acceptance...hoping for the best 4 u
Anyone have class of 2028 GroupMe or smth?
There’s a discord
U can find it through the student hub with ur case email
Also do you know if this new acct is real
Wdym real
Seems sketchy since it requested to follow me, isn’t followed by any real cwru
Lol none of those accounts are made by case
For any school
It’s always made by students
Has 3000 followers which are almost all spam accounts
That is common
Pretty sure this one is just trying to get money or smth, it even claims to be official
I’m using the cwru2028class one but this one requested to follow me so I was trying to figure out if it’s just a scam
Oh shit
That’s for 2027
Use that one
Can you send me that discord btw
U can only get it thru the student hub
Use your case email to add the student hub
Ah ok
Hey everyone
Thank you for your patience and continued interest in Case Western Reserve University.
I am writing with an update on the waitlist at Case Western Reserve University. In most years, by this point after the deposit deadline we would have more certainty about the status of our fall class. However, this year is proving to be less predictable than others due to the deposit deadline extensions at many colleges and universities across the country.
There is a possibility of being able to admit a small number of students off the waitlist. Since you have continued to express your interest in CWRU and we are particularly interested in your candidacy, we have kept your application open.
We expect to be in touch with you on or around May 20, at which point we hope to have a better idea of the status of our class and the circumstances at other institutions.
We truly appreciate your continued interest. If you have any questions, always feel free to contact us in the Office of Undergraduate Admission at admission@case.edu.
Best regards,
Bob
Does this mean smth?
I mean
I've heard of some schools sending out letters to wait-list people
Being like "yeah we think you'll be selected" and then selecting them
Kinda like a likely letter
So I'd imagine so
Hmm
I am considering between rutgers and cwru for cs
How good is cwru in computer science?
Not as good as rutgers
Still "good" in the sense that it's a good program with a lot of attention towards it as cwru is somewhat of a stem school even if their main focus is premed
And given small class sizes and overall population you'll probably get more individual attention and help than you would at a huge school like rutgers
Oh i see
But Rutgers is still Rutgers and a big alumni and undergrad population could also help for things like connections and stuff
How good are the dorms there ?
Yeah
They're honestly just
Normal dorms as far as the rooms go
They have breakdowns of the different houses on their website
This one being Norton for example
They're building 2 new dorm houses to be used this year as well
The residence areas and stuff are hit or miss, some of the houses are considered a lot better than the others in that regard
Since some are more modern and better equipped than others
Similar to Rutgers i see
this is sophomore housing
also freshman dorms are ass
dont expect much
No they’re sophomore dorms
ohhh
any tips on how to get of the waitlist i sent an loci long back
