hihi! In grade 8, I decided that my dream school was Hopkins. I'm a pre-med girl, and I thought that Hopkins would be a pipeline to achieving my dreams.

i spent two months doing summer programs at Hopkins. I paid to fly out and visit the campus (only school I visited) as an international student living in Canada. I bought their merch and wore it every single weekend. I told every single one of my frends that I was applying there for ED. I made friends with several Hopkins freshmen. I got rejected.

for weeks after I coudn't fathom the idea that I'd go to university next year - but that it woudn't be Hopkins. I literally hated everyone and anyone who'd say things such as "you'll be happy wherever you end up" or "things will work out eventually, I promise."

Somewhere along that journey though, I started talking to my counsellor more, and I realized that I had been so focused on my ED school, that I hadn't fully researched other options. So I forced myself to look into other schools, and boy, did I fall in love with them.

During Christmas week, I realized that when people used to ask me why i ED'ed to Hopkins, I would only say "because they have a great pre-med program!" but when my friend asked me "what's Vanderbilt? and why'd you apply there?" I started listing off multiple reasons why I loved the university, and it ended up stretching into a 30 minute mini ted talk. After that conversation, I decided to switch my Vandy app to ED2.

I got in today and I coudn't be more happy or grateful. In fact, If Hopkins emailed me today saying "oops, you're actually accepted" I would still decline and choose Vandy.

In essence, I understand exactly how devastating ED/ED2 decisions can be, but I also have first hand experience to back up the statement "everything will work out in the end, and you'll be where you're meant to be."

I don't know you too well, but from only reading the messages you've sent on this server, I can tell that you're an incredible, driven, kind, and high-achieving person. I trust that you will get into a university 10x better for you, and that when you do, you'll thank the stars that everything turned out the way they did
