#University of Michigan (2023-2024)
1 messages · Page 23 of 1
The problem tho is that with climate change winters can sometimes be unpredictability harsh
And from what I've heard the university will still function as normal
I don’t think that’s true
i would say bring a warm and long coat and you'll be okay, look on reddit for what people recommend i think
It’s a very small town surrounded by a massive college
This ⬆️
i don't think it's true
Ann Arbor is not unsafe
avoid shady places and going out alone at night and u shouold be okay
It might not be one of the safest places in the country but it definitely isn't unsafe from what I've heard
I seee, and my mom is also worried wether people will be friendly to asian people according to how ann arbor is less diverse than other big cities, any accounts or experiences?
Correct me if I'm wrong, UMich itself is kind of diverse?
You'll meet a lot of fellow Asians
Yea but my mom talking about outside the campus T__t (My mom overthink a lot im sorry)
I’m sure you’ll be fine honestly you are going to be spending a lot of your time on campus… Ann Arbor is just the “city” that it’s based in which is very small. It’s a college town
nah it's perfectly normal to worry about that stuff
Tbf racism doesn't come to mind when you think of Ann Arbor
There might be a couple incidents
But it isn't too much of an intimidating town
i can't tell u exactly for south asians but one thing that i really enjoyed noticing about umich and by extension ann arbor is that a lot of the friend groups around campus are mixed between different ethnicities and cultures, there's not a super homogenous or exclusive culture that's noticeable
On a sidenote, it's one of the best college towns in the nation
yeah it's definitely not known for racism/discrimination
Glad u feel that way!
ther
oops
there's a good proportion of east/central/south asians as well it's not super dominated by one or the other
Honestly between UCSD and UMich the three biggest differences are the weather, the college system at SD, and the social life
Can u elaborate more if u dont mind, except for the weather maybe bcs I already knew the general
Ill really appreciate that
I can't speak about the engineering/data science programs, but apart from that, this is what I have
UCSD has a college system, i.e. students are asked to rank the 8 colleges of the uni and they'll get assigned one when they're admitted. Your acceptance letter must have your college assignment too. Each of the colleges has its own culture and requirements, so while you will still be taking classes in the university in general, you'll be more involved(and associated) with your college outside of academics
Again all of this is from what I've heard
I see T__T so thats why I have to rank the colleges in commonapp back then
UCSD is infamously known as UC Socially Dead
Wait whyyy
This might be due to the relatively large number of commuters
I thought umich was more socially dead (sorry)
Who practically aren't involved in some of the campus activities
Of course you will have a social life
umich is hella social
But it will be easier to be involved in UMich than SD
granted it is hard to get involved if ur not proactive about it because it's a large public school with a lot of students but
if you put effort into being proactive and making friends / reaching out / joining stuff that ur interested in u should haev no problem at all
Tbf that's true for any large public uni
yeah true
Again make sure you get info from current UMich students
^^
They will always be more reliable than us
i can send u the link for the umich '28 server if you want in dms
are u guys commited to umichh
Same for UCSD
you can ask questions to current students
ye
Pretty much!
yea Im tryna reaching out to ucsd student
Ill dm u
okk
Thank youu everyonee!
ofc!
Every school was a safety back in his day
Anyone at campus day today?
Dang we really not partying hard enough 😭
Noo its bcs I didnt really heard much about u guys
Cs
Me
My FAFSA is processed but it's still showing up in the portal as incomplete, is this true for anyone else? I'm just a bit worried because the deadline is approaching
when should i expect to receive my actual aid package info
the estimated aid thing they sent like 4-6 weeks ago was only based on CSS
Where did you find this?
there's a c/o 2028 discord server for those accepted btw, i can dm link if you want! can't send here
U own it?
yes
find what? my estimated aid? they emailed it to me
Feb 13
was wondering because that estimated offer contained zero financial aid, and as an instate the calculator was saying I would get like at least 10k/yr
- their Go Blue Guarantee also says that like 85-90% of families (forget the exact percentage) in the income range which my family is in receive aid
so im wondering if im getting aid or not, because im not going if i dont get aid
Got in. High stats with test submitted. Very happy
You should be
congrats!
I got waitlisted, not even mad
No real STEM experience, t/o, oos, top 15% of graduating class, main ecs are sports and working 30+ hours a week, applied chemE
I withdrew so someone that needs it more than me can have it 🫡
i looked up their cds and they legit waitlist like 30% of applicants lol
Oh
no way its only 30% this year tho
i feel like Umich is trying to weed out people who RD since they won a natty from the people (like me :) ) who geniunley want to go here
I was waitlisted but it said an update was posted in an email today
Although I don't see any change
Is this just a technical error?
i would like to know this too
i was emailing with the aid and scholarships office and they said early to mid april but i need it nowww
yeah i emailed them back in mid-feb and they pretty much said based on the css i am getting zero aid
which i am well within the bracket for their go blue guarantee which states my aid should bring the cost to attend like sub 15k
so im kinda pissed at umich rn
oh that’s crazy what
yeah especially when i just talked with someone out of state who makes more than me (although everyone's family situation is different) and their cost to attend was like half of mine
like....
Before the scholarship it was 42k
Scholarship wasn't aid based
So just aid was still super expensive 💀
yeah of course, and i am not discounting you in any way, but as an in-state student, the state-funded school should be pledged to help out its instate students before oos
Oh yeah ofc just clarifying. You should've gotten way more aid bruh
thanks for letting me know im not crazy 🤣
They know ur instate right?
had someone I know not realize they were viewed as oos for a state school until they got their aid back
yep, on the estimated aid thing it says instate and it has the instate tution too
am probably going to call finaid dept this week to see if fafsa info changes anything
wait the oos person estimate has half the instate cost?
idk if they got fafsa yet
currently pretty muh
they say 17k/yr and im currently at 35k/yr
wow that’s insane
BUT
definitely somethin messed up there
i do have a 10k/yr scholarship which brings down to 25k/yr so it is really my bad for not mentioning that
but that is a merit based scholarship
yeah
so should not affect finaid at all
is your aid met based on your sai?
well my sai is like over the total cost at UM, but according to their "Go Blue Gaurantee" for in state students, i should be receiving a lot of aid
oh what-
idk why the SAI is so high because at every school i am accepted at i qualify for aid
did your fafsa process?
you should check how much your sai is on there and calculate yourself
Umich uses css to calculate
until they get fafsa info to put out real aid packages
iirc
I’m guessing this since unc does a similar thing
yeah that is waht i assumed
but yeah log onto fsa website and check what it says for sai
k then what do i do with that
Basically take the COA from umich website
and subtract the sai number from it
and that’s how much need you have
usually the college will try to fulfill some of it through work study and unsubsidized loans
but the rest will come from the college itself
well yeah but at some schools (like Dartmouth) I would pretty much attend for free, despite what my SAI says
idk where to find my sai on fsa
Let me check
oh i found it
alr
yeah the total COA - SAI for me is 1666 💀
yeah thats something to call umich about for sure then
since 35k is basically full pay
but every school calculates aid differently; cuz like i said somewhere like Dartmouth my COA - SAI would be like 51,000 but I would receive more like 80,000 in aid
and the 10k you got isn’t based off financials
im mostly basing the need i should receive off of their go blue guarantee
but this sai is really far off
yeah i mean i would expect it to be at least like 15k or less
like you’d know if your sai was 51k
Maybe it’s a typo or something
since they did give you the right amount of aid
I meant for Dartmouth
sorry
umich is still something you should try calling them about
I was just trying to find a reason for why your Dartmouth sai would be 51k
well I mean my Cost of Attendance (~86k) subtracted my Student Aid Indext (34974)
which is typically what is used to calculate your "required need"
Guys could you please give me some advice if you have some time? Would be much appreciated #1223711552859930624
Here!
Can you add me as well?
Do they really accept less than 100 students off the waitlist? I feel like this number is just incredibly low
Is your merit scholarship from the university or an outside source?
hey guys i hav a question, why am i being asked for financial statements for I-20 from U-M flint even though i didn't confirm going there
like i didn't even get a button to confirm admissions, they simply addmitted me and started sending visa stuffs
bruh i even got student election email from u-m flint in my u-mich email
From the University; it is a merit-based scholarship only for residents of the UP pursuing a degree in the College of Engineering
Thanks:)
Did you apply for it?
Nope, was awarded it a few weeks after EA advance selection CSE
I was trying to see if there are any scholarships @ UM to apply for but it seems most are automatic consideration
Can you send me a link to a list of them
I applied RD, but am still curious which ones I might be considered for
Can you send pls!
got u
Isnt 1k a lot
yes
yea but a lot of people got waitlisted
i think it was like 20k or somn
yall im so lost about the loci for this school 😭
20k waitlisted or 20k accepted the wl
If I wrote a loci for deferred should I still write one for waitlist
And do I email it to them
20k waitlisted and 1k accepted
around
they have this on their faqs
20k waitlisted or 20k accept the waitlist
I’m not asking abt ppl accepted from@the waitlist
20k that accepted the waitlist
Damn
look at the faqs
also the rate varys wildly
like last yesr it was 5%
the two years before was like 0.5%
and year before that was 13%
i think
no idea
what 💀 77/15076 were accepted off the waitlist
not 1k
its on their common data set
Could I have the inv as well?
yes
thats 2022
2023 it was 983/18575
where is that at?
https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/first-year-applicants/selection-process/waitlisted-applicants-faq
What does it mean to be waitlisted? Applicants are offered our waitlist in the spring when, after several thorough reviews of their application, we aren’t able to offer them a place in the incoming class. Michigan is consistently ranked as one of the top universities in the world and, as such, admission is extremely competitive.
faq
yea maybe
so we can assume about 1k students get off the waitlist??
is there a loci form for waitlist
Nope
They don’t take locis according to their FAQ
gang is there an admitted students ig chat
for umich no 😔
thre is a discord
though it's heavily populated by '27 and below rn LOL like half and half between them and '28
damn really
i thought all schools had IG GCs
maybe you're just not in
jkjk
oh💀💀💀
this may be true 💀
oh help 😭
maybe not 💀
someone had to tell me to make the discord LOL
we're late asf
😭😭😭😭
which school better for premed in my name 🥸
usc if cost is the same at all
USC prolly but it is expensive
The cheapest
And most grade inflating one
same Q
can deferred students still showcase continued interest if they are on the waitlist?
anyone knows when ross comes out?
April 12
Every Ross applicant will get a final decision
If they were admitted LSA
If you were waitlisted from LSA, you cant get into Ross as an incoming freshman
Does umich take loci?
doesn't seem like it
No
if anyone's a umich math major
do you know if its possible to start out first year halfway through the honors sequence
so like 395
most have guessed 1-2 weeks but idk how true that is, anyone know anything else?
They are reliant on the amount of committed students, so after may 1st. My guess is that those admissions would be rolling after that.
Do my chances at Ross change if I commit to LSA or not before the Ross decision!? like will they see that I'm good with going to LSA and not admit to Ross or am I overthinking
@spark rain can you make the ann arbor roads better
let me get there first
and then ill try
but trust me ive probably seen worse
living in a developing country
oh yeah def
Ur not even coming why does it matter 😒
trying to make himself less of a traitor
sigh
im making things better for YOU
CS Advance selection result just dropped for me
anyone know how i can get off this waitlist
^^
at the admitted students day thing, they said they were going to try to send final aid offers to people who have submitted all the necessary documents by mid-late April
they also said they'd send out LSA autoapplied scholarships by april 15
does Umich take a LOCI
Nah
Has anyone gotten a financial aid package yet?
same but they only gave me 15k. I can not afford anywhere near 62k a year wtf
I got an estimated aid one today
Ok me too, but not the final offer
Did they send it in an email?
Or on the portal?
I got an email saying it was available and a link to view the offer
i didnt get in gg
Oh alr. Guess I’m still waiting then
yeah i assume actual aid packages will be sent out within a few weeks
or at least the start of them rolling out
i was an EA applicant and my FAFSA now appears as received in the UM portal so I assume I should be getting some finaid info soon
In the estimate they sent me, they said they still hadn't recieved fafsa
In enrollment connect it says recieved tho
yeah i think it just default says that because the estimate is based on CSS
The estimate was based on css, yeah
yeah so I hope my actual aid (FAFSA) is better than the CSS estimate
because the estimate said zero finaid for me 😢
They typically are more generous in fafsa, but the umich grant will be based on CSS
(although their go blue guarantee and other finaid resources brag about how 90% of people in my income class receive aid)
well aid of about 12k a year
which for in-state is substantial
and would help a lot
Which is the only reason I can afford going
even though my income is on the higher end for qualifying for aid my parents are contributing zero to my education and so i needa cover it all
That will help you
and so if they tell me im supposed to get x dollars i am gonna be a squeaky wheel until i get x dollars
yeah i just hope i get the aid info sooner than later
dont want to push the enrollment deadline too much
I'm suprised they haven't extended the deadline
yeah i know a few schools that have
Especially since no one has Financials yet
it would also be nice for my WL schools :)
when did ur fafsa get processed?
idk on the fsa website i think i initially noticed it said processed like a week or two ago, UM Enrollment Connect updated to say the FAFSA was received like 2 days ago or so
bruh mines was processed 2 weeks ago too but umich ain't receive it yet 😭
hoping it's a SAI correction issue
new fafsa sucks
yeah it has been a rocky road
hopefully
hey ppl, is there a contract to sign when you are committing to umich
cuz im wondering if there are anything else to sign/submit besides paying for the enrollment deposit
im really afraid my offer will get rescinded lol
your councilor just needs to submit your final transcript. A checkbox appears when you enroll
also if you applied with test scores and you self reported you'll need to send in official test reports from either the SAT/ACT
like this
wait sorry how do you enroll?
because im not seeing the checklist
okay thank you so much!
you get it after you pay
it will appear in the left section of the portal
where the enroll button currently is
no worries!
you enrolled?
oh congrats then
if all new admits were automatically considered for scholarships, why did they still provide the option to apply? were the need-based scholarships automatic and the merit ones required an application or something?
I know definitely one of the auto considered scholarships was merit
Does Michigan take LOCI
i don't think they take anything
Oh alr
no sadly
now? prob not
idts
Daily reminder to please withdraw your offer if you're not committing 🙏
Daily reminder to please withdraw your offer if you're not committing 🙏
wishing yall luck 🙏🏻
No waitlist activity will take place before may 1st
So everyone would have decided by then
does anyone know why umich prevents you from dual majoring in cs and ds?
The website said this (I somehow can't attach a screenshot)
The following MDDP combinations are not allowed:
CS-Eng with DS-LSA
DS-Eng with CS-LSA
I think it’s because they have lots of similar classes
I was confused about the same thing as well
did ross come out yet for anyone else.. i still havent gotten my results
i think they said april 12th?
Did anyone get a notification that they received a engineering scholarship today
Did you
I got it way back but that’s because I applied early action
Yes
20k/yr OOS, you?
25k/year I’m also oos
nice congrats
Thanks!
some schools have movement before may 1 but maybe not michigan idk
also this yr could be wayyyy later cuz of fafsa
anyone get a financial aid offer based on fafsa and not just css
not yet
I dont know if they'll give out a real offer until after commitment
Usually all the movement starts after the deadline to enroll
For UMich its may 1st
But for other universities like Rutgers they’ve moved it back to June 1st
And so on
I am on Friday
Which works cuz I got waitlisted UMich and accepted Rutgers so hopefully waitlist stuff comes out before that so I don’t waste commitment money 😭
damn good luck to you man
Ty 😭
omg sameeeeee
has anyone gotten lsa scholarships
Anyone know if trying to negotiate financial aid with UMich would be successful? I got nothing from them in aid, but other schools have given me up to $8000 a year. It's not an absolute necessity, but I just want to lighten the load on my parents as much as possible and if I don't get a scholarship (which I don't think I will) then it would be great to lower the cost of attending through other means
Also when can I become an RA? They have guarenteed housing, right? Is the housing cost removed for UMich RAs?
soph year i believe
and yes, no housing cost
amazing. How competitive is it to become an RA?
I too wonder this... I think I am either going to email or call finaid dept tmr to see what is going on
if you do, let me know how it goes please
Have you already gotten your financial aid offer?
yeah
oh no, I mean I have the estimated, but I don't expect the real one to be much different, neither do my parents
Oh okay
If you want to appeal, you can give it a try by calling them or emailing the financial aid department
I was thinking of doing the same but after I get the official cost
doesnt urt to try
hurt^
yeah i was considering waiting but every person i asked (scholarship/college admissions counselor @ my school included) said to call asap instead of waiting
idk
will probably just shoot an email and see if i get a response, they are usually pretty slow to respond via email
Same
@proud peak I’ve heard that most unis reject appeals unless there’s a big change in income
So I really dk how umich gonna respond😭
Umich typically reject appeals too
Erm prob a bit competitive after all the no housing cost can be pretty appealing
Is getting umich phd admission from msu easy?
btw i’ve been emailing them and they responded today saying to be transparent they won’t have appeal decisions until after may 1st☹️
yeah, I suppose I could just wait till they come out, but my finaid estimate showed no aid when according to all their resources I should be getting like 10-13k
so i wanted to see if this discrepancy would likely be cleared, and possibly show intent to commit if i receive good aid
i’m so mad they aren’t extending the commitment deadline i wanna go so bad but like😭
my counselor says sometimes they give you a little extra aid if they know it means you will attend, idk how true that is but that is what she said
ikr, im pretty sure UMich Dearborn extended their deadline 💀💀💀
have u gotten offers from other schools? my estimated mich grant was like 5k a year💀💀 but i already got one for another school that said 10k so i emailed them that
im in-state even but it just is not fiscally responsible to commit to a school before knowing the coa
nah, i barely applied anywhere
tbh dartmouth was my dream and I got WL'd and tbh UM was a back-up but now that I have looked more into it, I am so happy I applied
I wasn't really even considering of attending but my opportunities are IMMENSE at UM
real i’m dying out of state but im waiting for like a 25k scholarship decision rn 😭😭
yeah cuz even for in-state my coa is like 25k, but that is still 100k; i know oos is way more but that is still a lot of money
real i applied bc it’s another reach school but considering it’s in state for u it’s such a good opportunity
if i can get that as low as possible that would be nice
yeah, I mean I am completing 76 CC credits by this senior year of mine and like 50 of those transfer
a little more even I believe
so I will be able to do their SUGS (accelerated masters, typically 4+1) in pretty much 4 years from what it seems
of course need to verify everything but I can, in theory, finish my UG coursework in 5 semesters
whether it is actually practical to do that is a different story
either way a Masters in 4 years is KILLER
that’s huge do yk if u need cc credit for sugs? i was interested but i didn’t even apply for coe so i was thinking of transferring out of lsa😭
wdym?
you don't need any additional credit outside of what you would take at UM for SUGS if that is what you mean
ohhh sorry i misread what u sent you would be finishing it 4 years right?
yah
typically I think you start taking your graduate classes in senior year
so then you have some done for the 5th year which is all grad courses
there is some sort of double counting or something idk
no yeah that’s crazy i got in for pharmacy and all my prereqs are like the same for the major i want in engineering so hopefully i could do the cross campus transfer next year 😭😭
sugs is so goated i would def go if i was you
but yeah it’s so expensive😭
shhhh🤫🤫
like even this is a lot, but I am avoiding 1 year of UG so it isnt as bad
yknow typically it is 4yrs UG and 2 G so even doing the SUGS save 1 year of G, my thing will save a year of UG and G
damn i should’ve done dual enrollment instead of ib😭😭😭
😂 my school only offers 2 AP classes
but then they got this sweet ass deal with our local CC
typically it is a 5th year program where you enroll in HS for a technical 5th year, but you take all CC classes and get a free AA because all DE classes are paid for '
and you are still considered a FY because you are technically taking CC classes during HS still, not after
you dont technically graduate HS till after the 5th year of all CC classes
wow that’s amazing the only credit i could get from all my classes is like intro bio💀💀💀💀💀
anyways I am doing that program but finishing it in senior year
oof yeah
i dont like bio 😢
but I love ecology
make sense of that 🤣
ooh i’m trying to switch into biomedical engineering 😭😭😭😭
that is dope
I was initially wanting to dual major @ UM, but since I thought about doing the SUGS in 4 years I completely dropeed the idea of dual major
so much more advantageous
unless maybe if the dual major was like a BBA
idk I still think a masters has more weight to it
Yes
oh 😭😭😭 damn do you think my chances are over lmao
kesslers specifically*
They're still rolling out
I applied rd and got one yesterday
But my friend who went ea got one a couple days after they were accepted
And then another one later
So I think they're rolling
No clue if kesslers is over
were you guys in state or oos
In state
Wdym?
They got a scholarship then got another one?
Apparently, yeah
Idk
They emailed?
ohh it’s so rough being out of state😭
same
even though i won't get in ross
i still want to be stuck in LSA
🙏
for those who got in how many ppl from ur hs got in mich cs as well lol
None
oos tuition is insane lol
does anyone have scholarships that are still open for umich?
It's higher than UCs and equal privates
Ima fly in and try to lower tuition
3 including me in a class of 63; everyone who applied to CS got it; in-state, super rural area in the Upper Peninsula
depends on your SAI, but if you are OOS you likely will not get much if any
although if you do have a low SAI you can get quite a bit, but it will still be very costly compared to any in-state school
how hard is it getting in cs in state btw?
its rlly easy to get in mich overall as in state right
76k after housing and all that crap?
well there are currently ~50k enrolled students between ug and grad, and a little over 50% of those students are in-state
so yeah, it is easier to get into umich in-state than oos
although I wouldn't say it is "really easy," if you aren't academically strong, they won't just let you in
I have a friend who has quite a bit of business experience but didn't really try hard in school and was deferred and then rejected for UM (not even Ross, he just wasnt accepted to UM)
well since there is a limited amount of CS spots in general, yes
it is harder for anyone who wants to do CS
ah i see
yeah reasonable
ill likely commit to mich cs too
although, proportionally, it is just as "easy" as getting accepted in-state
ur already committed right
yeah I haven't committed yet, but it is the most likely option for me right now
what are u choosing between?
i also want to see my finaid package before committing
oh yeah how do u see ur package lol do u email them
well they are supposed to send out official packages on the 15th
Did they say that
someone told me that they emailed finaid dept and that is what they said
i havent seen the email, that is only what this person said
Damn I didn’t know that thanks for telling
Ah okay
i was going to send out an email today
was wanting to last thursday but have been stupid busy
i havent committed because even though they are the best option for me, i cant consider it fiscally responsible to committ without knowing coa
yep
K, just sent off the email
will keep yall updated (on the date)
is ross BBA today?
hi, i did the math and i’m coming in w 37 credits and i’m pretty sure that i can graduate in 3 years if i take an adequate/doable amt of classes each semester. how and when do you find out if you’re officially “sophomore standing” or not? also are lsa scholarships still coming out or have most of them already been given? i’m out of state if that makes a difference. thanks!
good luck for ross~~~
(i'm definitely gonna get off the waitlist and then transfer in ross
❤️ )
not sure about your questions, but have you considered attempting to do a SUGS program in 4 years?
just making you aware that is an option (possibly)
What is a SUGS program?
I am coming in with about 50 credits and could logistically complete my UG coursework in 5 semesters and am planning on doing a SUGS (sequential undergraduate graduate studies) which is typically a 4+1 masters program
meaning I may be able to complete the SUGS in 4 instead of 5 years
I'm in a similar boat
hmmmmmmmm
Either way i’m pre med so i can’t do a combined masters :(
if it is, then i didnt know about that
many schools have 4+1 programs so i assumed it was just for lsa and eng
but yeah it looks like it is eng only
ok ok
Ty for making me aware of that tho! i knwo there’s the preferred admission thing too which is cool but sadly they don’t apply to me
wait who said sugs is for eng only???
Current University of Michigan undergraduate students studying Computer Science-LSA or Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science (Eng or LSA), or a minor in Computer Science are eligible to apply to the CSE Sequential Undergraduate/Graduate Studies (SUGS) program.
LSA CS and DS qualify
well sugs was instated for BSE -> MSE and since CS ands DS are offered in both eng and LSA, I assume they extended the program to LSA students in cs and ds
it is as good as eng only for everything except cs/ds
true ig 😂
im not sure why the program isnt extended to more degrees though
Did anyone hear back from the LSA international scholarship
has anyone heard back from kesslers😭😭😭
when i emailed they said all scholarships by the 15th except for a couple programs and aid mid to late april but im going to assume 15th since that’s what i got in an email before
my potential roommate heard back
oh wow
Bwah
GOT INTO ROSS
RAHH
probably won’t commit tho- idk let’s c when financial aid comes out
pls ignore me being cringe😞
conrgatstt::3
thank u! congrats on ur commitment <3
Where else are u considering?
how’d it go
congrats!!
Got Ross too, prob gonna commit :>
a bunch of other schools 😭 just bc my aid hasn’t come out yet
Does anyone know if you can transfer to ross while in umich
yes u can
is transferring to ross harder than double majoring in ross
sorry do yk if she’s out of state or in state
out of state
uhhhh
ah i see thanks
bro really posted a pic of carlo's insight here 💀😂
LMFAO
Has anyone not received their fin aid offer yet?
Like is there a way to check it that I’m unaware of? Because it thought it was just an email.
yes
but there was an estimate sent out, just not the official thing yet
afaik
i havent!
not even an estimate..
I haven’t gotten an estimate either LMAOAOAO
also there is a spot to access your estimate from Wolverine Access if you wanted to check to see if you do have an estimate on file and just werent emailed for some reason
with a guest or "friend" account that is
https://wolverineaccess.umich.edu/ > New and Prospective Student Business > New&Prospective Student Center > View Financial Aid Document Status > 2025 > Award Summary (sub-tab at the top within the "Financial Aid" tab)
That shows the exact same information the emailed estimate shows
Perhaps you do have an estimate and weren't emailed the webpage (the emailed estimate has a much fancier looking webpage but the data displayed is identical)
It just says $0 💀
My only concern is that I was admitted for Urban Technology, which starts Winter 2025.
But like. I still need my aid before then 💀
well either they just never did an estimate or according to the estimate you are receiving 0. if it is the latter, i wouldnt worry too much about it because my estimate says 0 for need based when according to all resources online i should be receiving like 13k in need based (i am in state though, so take that into account)
yeah if your enrollment semester is later than F24, you may not receive it as early as others, but like i said - apparently official aid packages should start to be sent out tomorrow
when do waitlists start coming out
after 5/1
i haven’t even gotten the estimate either and they said it’s on my portal and it’s not
You got the email?
no
I meant like reps i’ve spoken to in person said it was sent alr
and it’s just not there on my portal
I think estimates were only sent for ea?
i applied ea. all my financial aid stuff was sent on time/early, they marked on my portal that they received both css and fafsa. can someone send a ss of where it’s supposed to be and on which portal? i checked the admission portal/enrollment connect and it’s not there, and i checked wolverine access and it’s also not there
Make sure you go on wolverine access>financial aid info for students using a friend account>prospective student portal>view financial aid offers (tiny text)
It's not supposed to be on the portal
Like how i got it was through an email
And a link at the very bottom
Didn't know this was a thing
thanks y’all, I ended up finding it today?? but they never sent me an email at all 😭😭
a2c to the rescue!
How were u able to log in to wolverine access
Make a friend account
There's instructions online
same
Are there any substantial chances that I can get accepted from the waitlisted pool?
Do they let you know if you didn’t win any scholarships or is it just if you don’t get anything you assume you got nothing
uga sent out an email to say they’ve finished sending out all scholarships so i’m thinking they’ll do something similar
ok tysm i hope they do the same lol
real 😫
I feel like hella ppl got waitlisted so prolly a very slim chance this yr
Literally all of my friends were wait waitlisted or accepted to umich (2 a 7 wl)
My offer still hasn’t shown up. It still says that I don’t have any aid
anyone’s fafsa show up as received on enrollment connect, but not showing up on wolverine access?
yup
same, i’m assuming your estimated offer is only based on css and not fafsa?
Everyone's like that
any idea of when updated aid offers will be released?
@proud peak dyu know😭
I was told this in an email from UM:
"Due to the delay with FAFSA, universities have been delayed with official packaging.
Unfortunately if it goes past May 1st, you will have to go off of your estimated aid notice but the lateness shouldn’t bar you from receiving maximum aid."
So they are pretty much saying if you don't get your estimate by May 1st, oh well, just commit already!
you need to know what it will cost? fuck you!
(you can request a 2-week extension, although they don't like to tell you that)
thanks! department of education really screwed everyone over this year
yeah
i’m stressing sm about kesslers ahhh
mog
NICEEE
anyone know how do you double major ross + another school?
like whats the procedure
how are you still a prefrosh
or...are you actually planning on graduating in 3 yrs
bud
I just don’t want to get the college role
I like my lavender
ohh
piss peach is crazy
it's not even bad although lavender is indeed better
it's maize not yellow 😭
nah purple the best color
get out
no wonder ur a ucsb kid
can’t tell maize from yellow
smh
bud.
no
are you going to say UCs are yellow and blue and thus equivalent to umich since it’s blue and “yellow”
we are DIFFERENT
I don't care what you say, umich is yellow and blue
what u saying is like saying "Oh this is not a car, its a lamborghini"
they should reject u for this heinous crime
oh wait app season is over
umich waitlisted me so...
same thing
lmao 💀
thats so fucked up 😭
i agree with this
among the UC's themselves there are variations
like berkeley is cool and regal and our colors are "berkeley blue" (like navy blue) and "california gold" and they're so pretty and then you have ucla with their basic ass primary color blue and yellow
Lmao 😭
did anyone hear back about the scholarships here?
Heard that lsa scholarships are rolling out
Ik someone who got it a few hours ago
alright thanks a lot
I'm wearing a UMich engineering shirt and so many people have come up to talk to me 🥲
oh really so they weren’t all out yesterday
same
or no one has talked to me but i am also wearing my umich eng shirt today lmao
prob bc ur instate 😭
yeah pretty much
oh my guitar teacher asked me about it
he is one of those kinda pretentious, educated people
he is cool
anyone know anything about lead scholars
good luck at the columbia!!!
im so scared i wanna go so bad but the way aid offers don’t come out until like commitment day is crazyyy
Thanks!
if i end up not going i’ll be so devastated like my in state options are so bad 😭
Manifesting for you
Are you engineering?
yas
I just rejected the scholarship they offered me
i’m kinda worried bc a lot of people alr got the automatic scholarships
So maybe you'll get it 👀
omg manifest 😇😇
oh we dont find out abt merit based scholarship until commitment day?
I think it depends. I got mine ~1 month ago. Applies EA tho
all good bro
have a great time at columbia 🙏🏻
congratulations and best of luck
Thanks you too 🙏
you mean the one for international students?
what is a good MLC/Theme Community for Ross?
todays the first day to be able to ask for an enrollment deposit extension
hey i have question about the HSSP MLC. which one of these is correct.
“ If two first-years wish to live with each other, they should request each other as roommates in case they do not get into the program. If a student is admitted to HSSP, they would be living with another HSSP student. HSSP students can room with the student they select as their roommate if the other student is also admitted to HSSP. This happens as part of your room selection process run by the UM Housing department website. “
and this elsewhere “Michigan Learning Community applications take precedence over roommate requests. If admitted to an MLC, successful applicants' roommate requests may not be considered. HSSP specifically does not honor roommate requests - it plays a big part in building our tight-knit community!” which one is correct? i got into the program, can i request a roommate if i meet someone or does it not work like that
i think if they're a part of HSSP you should be able to request. i think the second statement refers to general roommate requests, not HSSP specific
anyone got official aid/scholarships today ☹️☹️ i feel impending doom😄
🙋 im starting a generational debt
Let me give u a tip to give u a head start then
Email UMich and tell them u don’t need any aid and give them to others that need it more
hope y’all have better luck
i think so
anyone know how i can check my financial aid package estimate for UMICH?
i couldnt find it anywhere
You’ll have to access wolverine access
Wolverine Access is a quick, convenient way for current and prospective University of Michigan students to access password-protected personal university information, including financial aid documents, notices, and student account statements. If you need technical assistance, please call U-M Information and Technology Services at 734-764-4357.
How much is gt for u
i got this too
like wtf
no one has their aid package yet wtf you mean
"Your request to have your Enrollment Deposit due date extended was considered but unfortunately, we are unable to extend your deadline date.
We have checked with Financial Aid and you have received your package. As the University has provided all of the information needed for you to make a decision, we are unable to further extend your deadline."
We have checked with Financial Aid and you have received your package
no i fucking didnt 🤣
19k
Instate?
yea
got my aid it was ass
atp like
might give up on ross
Hello I'm really hoping I'm in the right place got a bit confused with all the channels 😭
I'm currently a Junior in highschool.I grew up in Michigan and stayed there until 7th grade and am now currently residing in Saudi Arabia, I'm wanting to move back to the US for uni and the univercity im mostly looking at atm is U of M to pursure CS. I was wondering do you guys have any recommendations to increase my chances of getting in other than working on getting 1400 or above on SAT I have a few extracurriculars such as a part time job and some clubs I started in school.
(Sorry if this is not written the best I have trouble putting my thoughts together at times I'm open to answer any questions)
Nah the fact that USC gave me better aid is actually crazy.
extracurriculars will matter more than your SAT, also if you're starting college apps soon then focus on essays my friend had mid ecs and mid stats but banger essays and got in ea
I forgot that I start winter semester
Gotcha thanks a bunch!
essays are huge and just know demonstrated interest in cs doesnt guarantee you will be accepted, the converse of this is true too, just because you dont have a lot of experience in cs doesnt mean you wont get accepted cs
so if you dont have much cs experience that you may see on something like a resume dont worry about it because i know several people (albeit mostly instate, but a few oos) which had practically no "experience" in cs but got advance selection cs because they were really academically strong candidates
100% agree with smrithi i had genuinely the most mid application ever but put effort into essays
Gotcha does make sense
I do have a decent amount of knoldege when it comes to coding in python did participate in an olympiad too tho not sure if it helps much due to it being a more specific fiel in CS
yeah things like that help your application to anywhere a lot: math olympiads and what not
but as the others have said, essays are huge
Ill definitely make sure to focus on essays!!
mewing
@neat pawn did you submit any supplementary info for the extension request?
yes on the website but originally i was denied, i had to call them and explain my situation
Oh ic
yeah and they also said in an email that’s it’s only because i submitted a financial aid appeal and those aren’t being reviewed until after may 1st
and i mentioned waiting for scholarships and like something that happened w my dads job and stuff but none of that matters apparently 😄😄😄
This makes no sense tho
Isnt the enrollenent deadline may 1st?
How can u submit an appeal after may 1st
i already submit an aid appeal but financial aid department isn’t reviewing appeals until after may 1st
Ohh aid appeal
I thought u meant extension
They're so fucking heartleas
Just extend the deadline
Every university is doing it
You're just gonna lower ur yields by acting like this
yeah they denied my extension because they said having the estimate is good enough instead of seeing the actual aid package
they didn’t even give me a reason
hey current wolverines, how good is umich as placing undergrads in top grad programs? esp in the tech field like cs
omg hi scrge how's life
smrithi heyyyy fully commited to berkeley?!?! 👀
im doing fine prolly ending up going to umich lol
YESSSSSSS
omg slay!! ross?
noo im doing cs
thats why i was wondering abt the question i asked earlier xdd
berkeley is goated are u flying over to visit :0
i mean we're good at placing undergrads into top companies in industry so we can't be that bad at placing undergrads in top grad programs
my current bsf and my childhood friend are going to umich lol
in August
yesssss
so much green
🫶🫶🫶🫶
👍
just wondering are u planning on going to grad school O.o
:0 what are their majors?
yeah i think earlier in one of our convos in a thread i was like i wanna do business as a career LOL
Neuroscience and idk
thats cool
nope straight into industry
yeah enjoy cal its an amazing place 😊
is there a particular reason why
you too w umich🫡
cuz im also not sure if i wanna go striaght in industry
@unique onyx is also a very cool umich kid
i don't like school
LOL
agreed i talked to them in dm hella chill !!
AWWW
love u guys 🤟🏻
🫶🫶🫶
yes i believe so
wait are you certain, cause i need to be sure (im concurently applying to mrads and to 2 other theme communities which are higher up on my prio list)
in the email i got in my LSWA acceptance
"furthermore if you choose to decline our offer for any reason please let us know"
oml okei many thanks
yaya
anyone got recs on which dorm is the best for first-years?
reddit says any of the quads
n stay away from bursley and baits
why is baits bad?
oh i see
north campus
how far away is north campus from central?
mosher jordan good if ur engineer
personally i wouldn't want to even think abt it
js try to stay away from it ;-;
yea
im trying to get into baits just because that is the location i want but i am also gonna be on North for engineering classes
a lot of people will call me crazy but baits aint bad
but if you have all lsa classes then there is really no reason to want to be on north
i just like north better than central
but if you get assigned there go in with an open mind
a lot of people get assigned baits/bursley and go in with a closed mind and have a bad time
which do u guys recommend between baits/bursley? I'm majoring in lsa comp sci @proud peak @velvet prairie
well i mean if you are on central i wouldnt necessarily aim for a north campus dorm but if you were to choose one i would choose baits
bursley has the dining hall but baits has better rooms
bursley rooms are tiny, baits has duo suites where two duos are connected with a private bathroom
some of them like a living room sort of thing
bursley got 'em elevators and dining hall tho
i can't imagine myself walking outside the dorm in the snow of michigan at -5 C just to get food
personally gonna go with bursley tho the suites in baits do seem better
but if ur doing comp sci perhaps consider some MLCs or theme community?
mrads maybe?
quads, mojo, alice lloyd
🫡
when are waitlist decisions likely to be out?
Manifesting for you bro, you got this
goodluck to anyone on the waitlist
good luck yall
i’m probably gonna decline ross so if ur on that, i hope u get it
visited today, super nice buildings & everything!
TYSM 😭
thanksss but i think if i get in i'll be in LSA undeclared
still want it tho
good luck <3
rutgers biz is p good!! they waitlisted me 💀 but somehow i got into other biz schools 😭😭
They were super tough this year. I’m in state like 10 min from the school and barely anyone got into RBS or even Rutgers New Brunswick at all. They’re really trying to rise up the ranks 😭😭
i’m in state too.. did u apply to ross?? if so i hope u get off the waitlist :)
i’m about 1hr+ away?
I did but because Im waitlisted i cant go to Ross if admitted, only LSA. I'll have to try and transfer to Ross after my first year if I make it
Also tbh if you made it Ross then honestly rutgers was just yield protection for you fr
is ross extremely competitive as well in its transfer process? I applied to LSA on premed track but am already considering business at ross now lol
LSA honors came out today
Got in for honors. Anyone know the impact of honors?
honors advising is the biggest pro for me. also honors housing if u aren't doing another MLC, honors classes, exclusive honors research/travel/etc schlarships, pre-med/pre-law advising, and special events
hey guys
so i got into lsa
but want to do physics
and put down that i would like to be apart of the college of pharmacy
is there someway i can still pursue biological engineering/physics while not being tied to that school
bc im not tryingnto go into nursing
hi when does FINANCIAL AID come out
what's the average GPA for CSE majors?
1.3728
never
the WHAT
sry wrong reply
would waitlists decisions come out mid may?
Could start May 2
anyone know when LSA wl came out last year?
Looking through a bunch of Reddit posts from the last few years and it seems a lot of people who got in get it mid-late may, but others may get it latrr
🙏
Real
It’s fine imma just lock in for these AP exams and hopefully once they’re done, the decisions will be out
my aps and school finals will all be done by 5/8
and then it's time to pray for waitlists
You got thisss 🙌🙌
brooooo
💀
is there a way mich assigns random roommates
i filled out the housing application
but is there another more indepth form or is that it?
No its literally random
