Engineering and info/acms are completely separate programs in completely different schools. Each has a different process.

Doing ACMS to get a SWE job is an interesting way to go, I'll say that... INFO would probably be your next best bet in terms of getting a SWE job after college if you don't do CS.

You can only apply to the INFO major twice, and it's fairly competitive. I think their latest round, they accepted 1/4 candidates, which is quite low... meaning many people need backup options.

If you want to do CS, UW Bothell has a decent CS program... not quite on par with UW Seattle but still is comprehensive.

That totals to a 4% acceptance rate for out of state students because Washington residents only compete with Washington residents. Congrats with the acceptance because it was a incredible accomplishment

That really depends on what major you want to use to put on your resume. If you want to put on CS, that's the most straightforward way to ask for a SWE role. Same thing for Informatics, but you have to educate people a little more on the major since it's not widely known in the US. (Only Seattleites know about it).

As for ACMS I really don't know that many people who become SWE from that route but I'm sure it's happened before. It's a very indirect way... from the major requirements it looks like you take more theoretical classes than actual hardcoding classes

info is direct admission, so they wont put you in either way because if you wanted to get in for it you’d have to have put it as your first choice major

It’s a confusing process and it depends on what you currently have been admitted to. Some students enter as a pre-major and it’s hard for them to get into one major alone… if you currently have CS, make sure you complete all FDA requirements while also going through the Calc series (12x, 206/208). Then you can apply once you’ve done all those prerequisites.

Uhh to me that doesn’t really make much sense and there’s too much overlap between them. I’d suggest maybe CS and Mechanical or Civil or another major instead.

its fine if you don’t get in cs tho. Its not like the degree you get really matters. What matters more is the internships and a cs degree may help in finding those, but generally a cs degree doesnt matter that much.

and honestly most of the things you learn from bachelors degree rarely help with your actual SWE job (speaking from experience), they just build upon your coding basics which youll use to learn many more languages
