#University of Washington (2023-2024)
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
its a public school
public schools just favor in state
they want to keep their intellectual capital in washington and have it feed back into big tech lmao
Seems like internationals have no chance 💀
internationals are prioritized the lowest, but you can make the same argument with every single school in the US
disagree. uw applicant pool isnt the same as cornell applicant pool
not the same pool but percentage wise its harder
uw has less competitive applications and a bigger applicant pool so the 2% isnt rly the same as cornells
eh for comp sci id argue its not less competitive
its a t10 cs program id argue the caliber of applicants are equivalent to other t10 cs program applicants
he was mentioning cornell specifically so i mentioned cornell specifically but yes
Its known that the only reason UW is ranked lower for CS is class size, the smell of some freshmen who don’t shower, and the brain cells that explode from being overworked 💪💪💪
But beyond that many people consider it better than Stanford and Cornell and on par with CMU
The CS profs are all top notch
And the career center is always popping 🍿🍿
Surely the class size can't be worse than Berkeley
I mean class sizes of 700 are fairly big I’d say
¯_(ツ)_/¯
(For the intro classes)
Upper levels are usually a lot smaller
Fair. ~~berekely is kinda known currently for having class sizes larger than their largest hall ~~
lol
uw is my only shot at like a t20 school for comp sci
im gonna go monk mode on the essays
yea i mean its the best cs program in wa where all the big tech is
tip for u little junior kiddo (jk), focus on impact and the why ur doing what ur doing
dawg
uw is like one of the hardest to get into
oos cs acceptance rate is lower than mit
im not oos
I emailed about the portal and they gave the most confusing answer wtf
what did they say
just like check your email in the next few months thank you for applying
i think they just randomly chose a prewritten email to send
bc i asked a very specific question...
yeah same
Also this
Bro why do you send everyone an individual net ID just for admissions if your system can’t handle it 💀
they actually sent me another saying they’re honored i applied and to wait for more contact 🤡
fuck uw
you'll get in somewhere better its not that deep lol
come over, I’m sure we can find a shed or something to fit all the CS a2cers 😂
SHED
still no uw portal
Only the best form of housing in this state
is it alright if i email them with a mistake i found on my activities list just now, or will that end up hurting me?
How big of a mistake is it? If it’s a minor typo then it won’t affect your application
i accidentally checked 10,11,12 for an activity instead of 11,12 and it gives me +20 hours of volunteering as a result
60 -> 80
Honestly that’s not enough of a difference to get you accepted or rejected
It’s not too big of a deal but emailing them might help your conscious yk
yeah i feel kind of guilty. i was going to just do 20 extra hours so it ends up being accurate…
my counselor said i didn’t need to send an email either but i’m not sure
It it’s weighing on you then I’d send an email
If you do get in and end up attending then that seed of imposter syndrome might suck
would there be a disadvantage to letting them know? like would they think i’m careless or something
Idts
lowkey i wouldnt but up to you
they might not even remember it when they get to ur app or even note it down, but i do agree if its weighing you down, then do it
ggs
any1 know when uw comes out?
March 1-15
Supposedly in waves
But they usually mostly release on one day
oksy thx
can someone send me the portal link?
ty!
wait i thought portals would have like application checklists and stuff?
yeah
@vale pewter sorry I sent the wrong link 😅 . Here's the applications status: https://my.uw.edu/
its literally just a plain html page for uw i think
many of their pages are plain html
i believe one of their payment windows is just pure html
and its hella ugly too
I believe that might be due to accessibility reasons iirc?
maybe but every other school doenst just use plain html
lmao with the amount of faang swe’s they produce surely one fixes their website
they feed to microsoft
i’m curious as to whether it’s directly feeding or u still have to grind it’s just easier
prolly the latter
but given that microsoft is near seattle they prolly have a HUGE presence in dub
university of washington
university of washingtono
hence why only 13% of students/faculty have notifications on lol
correcto! same with accenture, deloitte, ey, baine & co, google, apple, tesla, amazon, etc etc list goes on and on
how many kids do u guesstimate graduate from allen school jobless lol
not many, most have stacked internships lol
me asf!!!!!!!!!
the culture here is competitive in a lot of majors, especially any that are capacity-constrained.
lmfao i wonder how bad neuro is
idk about that one ¯_(ツ)_/¯
i have no idea what goes into any of the science majors
lol ok thanks
March 1-15. It came out on March 9 or 12 for me, I can't remember which. I think the 9th for some students and 12th for others
thats stupid
¯_(ツ)_/¯
me waiting four months just to get the inevitable rejected from CE
does comp engineering fall under the allen school or the engineering school
allen
ECE is engineering
yeah ik
CE is eng in allen, CS is liberal arts in allen
regardless i have no plans to go here
why lol
hardest school by admit rate
i mean it’s a good school
and expensive compared to my state school (which is also up there prestige wise)
yeah ms goes hard there
i mean not only ms
google, meta
if u grind you'll probably secure some type of good job
I never realized that oos was that dire, whoever makes it here is actually thanos
but ngl from having taken 123 and 369, idk if this is just college culture but like the lecture halls are half empty and those that never attended show up on finals day with their entire 1-pager filled to the gills and end up with a sub-par grade... It's not really a education resource/professor thing but more of a student thing
I don't see how this general behavior reflects a t10/t5 CS uni, but I prob have bias as a washingtonian
yea
no clue how this school is t5
its prbably due to how its a feeder to top tech and apparently has good research opportunities
ngl if u make it here oos ur probably just gonna turn it down for mit/caltech
anyone else still not gotten portal?
yeah
I emailed about it and they were just like check ur email for the next few months
Like okay…
don't think so
no
@viscid adder
ty
just wondering, did anyone else who did uw in the hs courses have trouble getting their application linked with their existing uw netid?
cuz all my friends had a variety of issues but i didn't
just took them forever to actually see it
i did but i havent gotten the portal email yet 💀
what 💀💀
that's rly weird
all i got was an email saying they received my application and then i checked my netid and it was linked automatically
i guess mine didnt automatically link? i emailed about it and they said to wait for the portal email and then link it
did the exact same thing, got the same response
transfer apps come out Friday
I thought this meant the overall in state acceptance rate and got so confused cause I thought it was like 50%
It's higher than 21%, but each school really varies. For instance, there's a difference between getting into the univ as a whole and getting into a school through the Freshman Direct Applicant program.
Of all 55,000 applicants who applied to the UW, I think the numbers were: 12,000 were accepted, several thousand were waitlisted, and 9,000+ are attending.
The class of 2027 is the biggest class that the University has ever had.
yea
business cs and i think neurosci are all competitive
others less so
There are quite a few capacity constrained majors. Business, CS, Pre-Med are well known ones.
Others, such as Informatics, Psych, applied math, and others are also capacity constrained but the less popular ones
i thought udub doesn’t have a premed track?
rejected penn and UW is tied with brown for my second choice
when do decisions come out like march?
whats the acceptance rate for cs?
2% is crazy😭😭
i mean theyre gatekeeping the intellect for big tech in wa
kind of makes sense
they needa gatekeep me fr
are u in sate
lol i thought they had one since so many kids just say they're "pre-med" lol
March 1-15
yea theres no pre med track
u just end up taking some jackshit and then applying for med school
Welp I wonder why so many people say they're "pre-med" at UW
it's a real thing here
probably because they intend to major at med school
theyre just probably in a bio or chem major
I think it's probably because they're just doing all the prereqs to get into a science major
engineering is like 40% oos right
you wish.
fuck really
never trusting that page
Ahh, yes. Direct to college, at those numbers. Direct to major, you're looking at 10% and less
whats the diff again
You're in the college, great! Still gotta apply into your major.
LMFAO THIS IS SO SCUFFED
Yeah so Direct to College is really high, but direct to major (which is the important one) is much lower
oh i didnt know they did direct to major for engineering
they dont
Yes they do direct to major for lots of things. It's a confusing, obscure, awful admissions process.
fsr i thought it was either premajor or direct to college
oh yeah i remember my cousin telling me about that
They do brother.
oh
i ematn they do
sorry im mixing it up
yea i remember someone telling me "im not going to udub cuz theres no guarantee i get in for mech e" now that i think abt it
does autumn admissions have higher acceptance rate?
LOL I actually attend this school. I don't know anything that has to do with humanities or science, but everything else STEM I'm very familiar with
wdym
yea
im mixing it up
lol
isnt there an autumn term you couldve selected for admissinos?
or summer sorry
like you can apply for admissions for summer 24'
its probably the same bro
So for high school admissions into the UW there's only one application date, which is the Nov 15 deadline.
maybe like a gap semester? idk
dont care when i start long as im in the school
its gonna be the same difficulty
is transfer app easier than undergrad?
For college students/transfers, each school offers different terms that you can apply for admission. Most are twice a year, fall/winter and spring/fall (apply fall and get in winter, apply spring and get in fall)
Generally, depending on the transfer.
Although getting in DTM I'm not too sure about
i think it's a higher chance to just get accepted into the school but not the major
im gonna graduate with my associates this spring so i could take a gap semester and apply as a transfer for spring '24
for cs, it looks like no
but idk if u intend to major in cs
20%>2%
i just came across a reddit post of a transfer student who is screwed because they didn't get into their major when they applied but they got into the school, and they don't know what to do now
i do
Smart way to go
ngl with all the protests UW isn't super bright rn
i really like seattle
LMFAO YOU REALLY GOT THE SHORT END OF THE STICK
ive a friend there too
THATS SO TRAGIC WTF
bro its better to be international than oos?😭
admissions is one thing... but finaid is another big thing 😂
no finaid for y'all intl students
💀
intl must suck
its so difficult for everything
why can i not find any info about engineering direct to major on their page
yeah it's really hard
because they're a secretive school lol
and each major is different
wtf man
I know a grand total of one student who got direct into civil engineering major, and countless students who want to go into civil but are currently just in the engineering school
which i suppose is still better than being outside of the engineering school but still
ive heard engineering is a lil dicey cuz of that
yeah you're never guaranteed admissions to your first choice
thats stupid.
funny enough that one student isn't even attending UW 😂
they're attending CalPoly
damn bruh.
still a good institution so good for them
but bruh
turning down UW engineering is crazyyy
slo is good but i would not choose it over uw
and from that, one of my classes is 8:30am and one is 3:30-6pm lol
which ones
ACCTG 215 (intro accounting), MGMT 200 (law), CSE 123 (java) --> the two hardest business prereqs plus a lovely coding classs
i like coding as a hobby but not as a class
for some students yes, others nah
It's tough to get a 4.0 though, you gotta be top 5% of the class
That's most weedout classes here, you gotta be top 5% to get a 4.0
all of my classes i'm above 90%, and should secure two 4.0s and one 3.8
cse 12x grading scale is so aids
you cant get more than a guaranteed 3.5
ive heard u can get one S to get guaranteed a 4.0 in the entire class
Informatics
and that's assuming you do well on all of the exams lol
but like what kind of grades and stuff do you need to get
That one I've heard quite a few students have gotten into the college but not into the major lol
the quizzes were all online and remote when i took them
aka it wasnt very hard
Of course I talk to a lot of smart students tho so I may be looking at only a particular population that did in fact get in
the final exam i did well but i didnt ace because i speedran it and made braindead mistakes
i thin i got like 4 e's 2 s's
i don't think they're too bad as long as you practice
one of the s i read too fast the other one i forgot to use a variable that i assigned to the size of a stack
i used s.size() which doesnt work bc the size changes
basically 2 lines if i changed i would have gotten full points
🗿
Proud to be a part of the one major that limits the number of times you can apply 😂
i might dual major in informatics
for funzies
if thats an option
CS + Info generally isn't what many students do
fyi
Most like to pair CS with something else (applied math, hcde, business, etc)
Because info and cs share a lot of classes
good luck with uw math classes 🙏
they're evil
would i have to get into both foster and allen for cs + business
if so hell nah
Yes.
yea nah i cant deal w allat
Double degree, and for Foster you need 60 college graded credits (aka no AP lol)
And you need to graduate with at least 225
Which means 5 years 😂
Unless you have a ton of college credit
usually
I have 50 college credits from AP so an advisor said i should be able to do everything i need to do in four years
"normal" is the most subjective word ever. there are 40-60 year olds here earning their first bachelor's degree
perhaps say "traditional" instead here :-)
Even though I'm taking the traditional route, I personally took offense to "normal" for everyone who doesn't complete their degrees at 22. Not everyone is privileged or financially able enough to complete within such a tight window
u bum
i was more reffering to a 4 year degree and starting at 18
but yea i get what you mean
It's fine
anyways
i have realized i hate math
i am still going to do cs
:3
man math is so boring
legit now ive realized why i fall asleep in all my math classes
its just so brain numbing
informatics!
in uw you wont be bored with double integrals that take up an entire page of math 😂
BRO
brodie is 16 and already 0/1 at colleges
TRAGIC
my roommate was a valedictorian at a school and got a 47% on his first exam, that humbled him
lmfao i know im not anywhere near valedict
(avg was a 55 so he wasn't far behind)
u go to a school in the middle of nowhere
my district is full of sweaty kisd
bro like what
MATH 126
what is that
in terms of like
common math course terminology
is it like calc
oh mv calc
🗿
yea
i know kids that are doing that
this summer
for fun
u
are a masochist
im p sure ap chem gives u a stupid amount of chem credits
ill just get a 5 and then easy
it does if you do well
english credits don't count
ill do fine
fuck ap lang im not taking that s hit
followed up with math 207/208
lowkey my favorite AP class of them all, of course i had a great teacher
(totally not about to type professor lol)
I am proud to say I scored a B in her class, and it was well worth it
She's one of the best in the PNW
yea nobody gets an A in ap lang at my school
Ha, so you're taking the easy way out, good for your mental health 💪
in one class they pulled up a 6/6 essay that collegeboard gave out
and the teahcer graded it
people who take those at UW are likely to just be in suzzallo studying 24/7
because that way they can ensure students exceed cb standards
The average APUSH exam score for our school was a 4.4 last year
i think its similar for my school
our 5 rates for classes like pa chem and ap world
are absurdly higher than the national avg
ap csa is marginally easier than apush.
sorry majorly
i keep using marginal when im trying to describe something big
and its so backwards
our chem 5 rate
is like 45%
if ir ecall correctly
Ehhh our classroom average was a 78% and our teacher had to square root curve all of our grades at the end of the first semester lol
APUSH was easier cause avg was 88%
somewhere around there
👏
ok bye time to mod on ka
smart lol, i took two COMM classes at a cc, best choice ever to knock out credits
uw also charges insane $$$$
im fully expecting a CE rejection and tbh im fine with it
Hey guys,
How hard is UW ACMS to get into
Because I am shit scared because my grades arent that great and SAT is alr
it’s probably similar difficulty to comp sci
transfer apps open today
anything better than the 2% of Comp Sci
ok so its 12.5%
given that there are two cycles i think theyll admit around 100 total students a year
gonna delete whatever bs i said earlier bc its wrong + i didnt realize u had to transfer in
thanks
good to know
what is dtm
Direct to Major. There are several admissions paths that high school students can be accepted into, and DTM is one of them (also known as an FDA student — Freshman Direct Admit, which is usually what we call ourselves)
We don’t say we’re a “DTM” but we do say we’re an “FDA” if someone asks how we’re already in a major.
i love washington
Hey, does anyone know the decision release date?
March 1-15 but i think it came on March 9 last year
got it thx
oh i see
thanks
Hi I have a question about applying to college, I'm a fairly non-traditional student. I'm 23, for my first few years of high school I blew off classes, didn't do home work, didn't do classes, generally a terrible student, the only reason I was able to pass classes was due to high test scores. Middle of my junior year I got my shit together, started full time dual enrollment at a cc, overall my high school GPA was 2.4, but after this change of heart it was 3.8, I got a 33 on the ACT, my initial plan after high school was to join the military but unfortunately some very serious health problems got in the way and I put all thoughts of the military and school out of my mind. I've recently been thinking of going back to college, UW would be on the shortlist. Do I have a shot if I were to apply direct? I don't want to spend 9 months dicking around at a community college.
depends
what major do you intend to apply to
Math, Geology/Geophysics, or just Undecided
only about a year and a half
Did anyone else get a text about a gc for UW or could it be spam??
zeemee is so weird
Omg I remember zeemee
zeemee is how I found out I got into Texas a&m
I didn’t get an email or anything I was just moved to an admitted students chat
Weirdest shit ever
ZeeMee is a college app that nobody uses except for finding roommates
It's a real app
is it important to join?
^^
thats so crazy
There are college reps active for questions but it’s mostly just people socializing in general
Not at all important to join
how tf does udub take so long to admit
they have a small team of about a dozen people who do everything for admissions
together they read all 60k+ applications, make decisions, etc
no
they need to hire more people fr
when do decisions come out
Im new to the thread btw
Its just...I have EA apps submitted after UW rd
march
please tell me I don't have to wait till march
you have to wait till march
why did u even apply then lol
Because I liked the programs offered
then why would you forget 😭
like I do for everywhere else and like everyone else does
normal waits are like 3 months max, ea 11/1 to january, rd january to march
this is like what, 4.5 months
I could get Rutgers RD decision before UW's comes out
LOL fair
For everything else it is just like "oh, I ea'd, that's january" and "oh, I gonna rd, that's march" and then there is UW
Depends ucs are a solid 4-5 months
except I love the ucs more, uw is just like "the other target school" for me and a lot of ppl im sry
tbf uw doesnt label as early
they just label it as regular
uw being a target is wild must be insane stats
isnt uw a target if not cs or engineering?
udub is a safety for a lot of majors dude LOL
also i think its reasonable to put udub as a target (for the allen school, bc thats what im assuming we're talking about) if ur instate and have good stats and ecs
the general acceptance rate of the whole school is like 55%
acms?
yuppers
if ur talking about acms
given that there are two acceptance cycles in the year
12.5% is lower than the real rate
think its spring
is it worth sending official SAT scores
since ik they don't look at them unless ur on the fence
how good are they
if you are like 1580 or smth then yes
if you are like what, 1290 then no
I love how the dog answers questions on zeemee it’s so cute
isnt this technically dubs 2
i heard the old dubs died a few years aGO
ago*
Nah he’s gonna do his own thing
Yeah 😭
Bro knows too much 💀
they don’t look at them unless ur on the fence and ur score is above a 1400 iirc
yea 1400 or 31 and above is considered if ur on the fence
i have a 1460 single test and 1480 superscore
yea submit
wait do they take self reported common app scores
probably
whats informatics like
@scarlet tinsel i think is an info major
Yes I’m an info major… do you have a more specific q? I’m also on an intl trip rn so sorry in advance for late replies!
I got into info FDA
oh yeah sorry if that was too broad, more like:
- what exactly does the curriculum focus on?
- how much tie-in does it have with computer science (as that’s my first choice major)?
- on their website they say “A small percentage of students are admitted to this major directly as freshmen. The majority will be admitted through the standard admission process after enrolling at the UW.”, what exactly does this mean 😅
I consider it “interdisciplinary CS” — you’re coding but you’re also designing, reflecting, and innovating along the way. informatics majors are known as the “bridge” between other disciplines. You can talk in coding language but also design, PM, etc language. It’s about making things with the mindset of the people — I.e accessibility issues, design frameworks, that type of thing, it’s a unique major.
It has some tie in with CS and you need to take several CSE classes, but it’s a very broad major in that you’re taking classes from a variety of disciplines
As for “a small percentage,” several majors are capacity constrained (business, engineering, etc) and a small number get direct admission into the major. That essentially just means you don’t have to apply into it if it’s capacity constrained.
If you want to do CS, then definitely aim for that since it’s such a difficult major to get into
can i minor in informatics alongside a cs major cuz that def sounds like something i wanna do
Is there a bioinformatics path way off of the informatics major?
yea if i get in dtm cs i might pick up info as a 2nd
Ehh I don’t think it’s worth it since there are too many similarities
Do HCDE or industrial design maybe
oh yeah good idea
For INFO it’s not recommended to do CS, because CS is essentially “info on tech steroids.”
To expand your career options it is smarter to go into design, business, maybe something else that’s more humanities based
They’re honestly making so many changes right now that I can’t keep track of but I believe bioinformatics is still a pathway as of now
gotta say, i apprecate the emails even though im not getting in
So I already sent my December 2023 SAT to UW through collegeboard and I called them like 2 weeks ago and they said they would automatically update as long as it got sent before the 31st, my SAT score has been sent for about a week now but how do I know if they definitely updated my app with it?
do you think they’ll respond before new year
prob not
GO HUSKIES
Absolutely not!! Hope they lose!
t*xas supporter
Washing*on supporter
HUGE PLAY
WHO GOT THE FIRST TOUCHDOWN
that was a fire play
glgl though to texas
udub is just the school im applying to
texas gives heavily to instate kids
😭
I got in and I’ve lived here my whole life so I wanted to support them but
It’s prob over 💀💀
nah good play though
Yeah fr fr let’s go Texas
i aint getting here either probably
LOL I believe
im oos cs kid
its already over
atleast sugar bowl will probably score more than rose lmfao
True it’s okay
HUSKIES RECOVER THE FUMBLE
ggs
holy shit that was so stressful
I would imagine they look at semester 1 yes
Since decisions don't come out until March 1-15
na they don’t
Kind of an L for me tbh
the deadline is in november 💀
I mean my grades in previous years are still good
what major r u applying for
But 1st semester this year was honestly my best percentage wise so far
Lowest grade was either a 97 or 98
PoliSci
bro ur getting in then
thats the freest major in the whole world
What’s admission like for history majors? I’m out of state
prob not too competitive i think
should i apply to uw tacoma
i think i opted to have them send info as well when i applied to seattle
dont sleep on uw tacoma
r u in state
I don’t think it’s worth going to UW Tacoma if ur not in state
nah its not
nor am i planning to
a lot of schools i already am in to are state flagships
hell na
tacoma is auto admit 🗿
if u want the udub degree that bad
at least go bothell
at least
the better option is to go to a UW and do anohter similar degree
and try and get in for grad school or be one of those lucky ones who can transfer
UW Bothell is just committing to 4 yrs on a satellite campus
it says on the UW Bothell degree that it's bothell
its like going to uoft missassauga
so if you care about prestige
no it doesnt
it 100 percent matters
yes it does
if you search it up it will say
University of Washington - bothell
but you have to specify its bothell on ur resume or sum
its joever
withdrawing my app fr
same
Anyone know decision date for UW?
March 1-15 it was 9 last year
Ok thank you
👍🏼
any aero-astro eng applicants here. if yes u guys knowthe acceptance of this program ?
very low if you're oos + international
its gonna be that hard still ?
np
yeah im just hoping for a good scholarship
Don’t ask for chancemes
teh school of engineering does not admit you by major
so youd have to get in first and then you have to get into your major, so i'm purely going to look at the stats for the engineering school
@lapis solar @raw sparrow the acceptance rate for non washington residents for the engineering college is 43%
i frankly do not know
thanks thats a lot of help
does my intended major influence my app in any way or does the college i applied to matter
College u applied to
so if i change my major rn it wont affect anything right
Idts?? Idk if changing in January would have an affect tho
I believe that for intended major, if you applied to a competitive program you might not get into that program but still be able to be admitted to UW
what if both are uncompetitive lmao
Well then you probably get admitted to the program or you just don’t get accepted
Hi [REDACTED]! University of Washington is inviting you to the official group chat for interested students on ZeeMee!
i got that too and joined
the zeemee chat is so toxic
idk if these people realize that they are using their real names and there are AOs in the chat too
like its actually insane 😭
random people keep coming in to stir shit up 😭
He just says random shit istg
Let’s not doxx people’s names
sorry 😭
is that fr considered doxxing?
its like on the gc?
interesting
There’s full names and I’m guessing those people did not consent to their names and pfps being posted on a2c
interesting ok
ive heard zeemee is just completely random
when does UW decisions come out
March 1-15
it is lol
if i don’t get in here im getting disowned
is that bc u think ur gonna get in or bc u think ur not gonna get in lmfao
bro idek atp
is anyones portal not working
yes
yupp same
I will disown myself
How hard is U Washington DTC for engineering?
not that aids
Does UW ask for Mid Term Grades?
No
Depends on the major. ECE is much harder than Civil
when do EA decisions come out ?
uw doesnt have ea
all decisions come out early-mid march
ohk that late
Anyone know what being a chem/or physics major is like?
i think my counselor might have sent my midyear grades to all of my common app schools regardless if they asked for them
ill try to find out tomorrow
if she did send them then im fucked because with +/- it drops my gpa from 3.73 to 3.67
I'm not too familiar, but I know that the Chemistry major is a fairly intense one. One of my roommates is just knocking out prereqs and is suffering... the intro classes are hard, and the ochem classes are brutal
UW doesn't look at midyear grades.
On average, your application gets 5-7 minutes of review by an admissions officer before they choose to accept, waitlist, or reject your app. They don't have the time to look at midterm grades, and there's barely enough bandwidth in the system to take them anyway. You're good to go
Our UW registration systems (which is the same one they use for applicants) sucks as it is but thankfully that means it rejects anything from the system that UW doesn't expressly say it wants to keep
@scarlet tinsel hey do you know how generuos uwash is with scholarships for oos students
UW is a public school, and scholarships are... not good for OOS students.
It's only too often that I hear people are paying $60k/year if they're not in state
With few to none scholarships
On a financial level UW is not your friend
Unless you're doing CS, pre-med, business, informatics, or engineering, I honestly wouldn't come... those are the top ones that are capacity constrained
https://www.washington.edu/financialaid/types-of-aid/scholarships/undergraduate-scholarships/
they have a separate thing for non residents tho?
is that very competitive to get?
also do you mean fields other than these dont have good departments and resources?
You don't wanna be paying off debt unless you're in a genuinely solid program. Many here are incredible but I'd only come here as an OOS student if you're going to receive a high wage right after grad
There are many solid departments and resources, but they only use their own resources, not that of the University. You have a smaller pool of finaid to tap into if you're an OOS student, whereas in state kids have access to both any finaid resources from their department/school and the university itself
ohhhh thats fair
but academically uw is good in social sciences too right? like neglecting the financial part
No, it's just that these programs are generally the most competitive and are known to be well funded because of the many successful alumni.
Many other majors are awesome too!! don't get me wrong on that
yes, UW is very strong with social sciences.
it's funny because you say you're either a "stem" or "humanities" student. psychology is a pretty big program
ok yeah i thought this was about the academic quality
finance part i can take care, but UW has a major i really like that i'd be willing to pay oos tuition for so just wanted to make sure the faculty and resources are good
Nah, it's just those are generally the most competitive. If there's another school that has a good program and is less money, do the one that is less money.
what major?
law, societies and justice
Ooh yes I have several friends who are doing that lol
I've heard it's a solid choice
yep definitely! plan is to go with the cheapest option but rn for me thats purdue whereas i have family members who live 15 minutes away from the university so parents would rather pay extra to send me to seattle than indiana
are they liking it?
From what my friends say, they enjoy it! Haven't asked them many deep questions about it since I have no interest in LSJ but they like it a lot
yep thats fair lol
Sure sure
you're a cs major right?
No, Info major. CS is too much coding for me lol
As an INFO major I take several CSE classes but it's not fully CS. It's interdisciplinary, so we take classes in product management, UX/UI, data science, and AI/ML
ahhhhh interesting
yeah some majors are weird in that they kinda combine multiple majors together...
we love interdisciplinary
i've applied for interdisciplinary honors, if i get that and a scholarship ill prolly choose uwash lol
oh please don't say uwash 😭 it's uw bahahaha
the one thing oos students learn to say is "uw" pronounced "u dub"
uwash is "uwash in st louis" lol
dw most kids say that
Running start better be my saving grace then
if you can skip Chem 142 lol, do it
HAHA OKAY i also applied to uni of wisconsin so when i see uw my mind automatically goes to that 😭
i will start saying udub tho!!
anybody got acceptance rates for UW engineering
Direct to College, engineering 3-year average admit rates
For more information about direct to college, visit the College of Engineering FAQ page.
Residency type Admit rate
Washington resident 54%
Non-Washington resident 43%
great
oh thank gosh
how do yk so much about how their stuff works lmao
Because every student on the UW campus can agree that the systems are the worst
Despite having the greatest CS school, we have the worst online infrastructure that exists
😂
it's prety sad honestly
But yeah I also know someone who was once an intern and said as much as he could that wasn't NDA about admissions
I can tell by the portal
Lol the applicant portal for UW is terrible good luck
HAHAHA i noticed, i gave up and just filled out the question form instead 😭😂
they shoudl just get one of their like 2500 cs majors to make the website
im sure the kid is ognna put it on his resume just like his calculator project (he has internships at google cuz his dad works there)
it's a running joke in the university among stem majors lol
what is
the dogmeat website?
when i clicked on it the first time i legit thought it was a scam
it functions as it needs to, but it looks kinda yucky and is pretty terrible when it comes to the number of sites you need to memorize... i only have a few memorized, like my.uw.edu, myplan.uw.edu, myhfs.uw.edu, canvas.uw.edu, and ischool.uw.edu/informatics
does UW look at your common app essay??
It says that they have their own “personal statement” which is literally the exact size as a common app essays and common app doenst say they require it
but why is my common app essay showing up on my application PDF then 😭😭😭
Or do they just not review your common app
i’m so confused
You can request not to send your common app
mine has my common app essay twice. once in the common app essay location and once in the UW personal statment. Am i screwed?😭
I checked online and everyone is saying that they don’t review your common app essay
No.
They only look at the three statements (one of which is optional) on their website
so whenever the college board asked me if i wanted to do a free score send for ap credits, i sent them to uw because i didnt know where else to send them. i logged into my uw account earlier today (cuz im doing uw in the hs courses) and found out that from all of those scores and all the uwhs courses i took, i have 34 credits already
Aye did anyone here do running start?
does anyone know what the instate odds are of being rejected from cs but getting admitted to general sciences (vs outright rejection)
25% acceptance into CS, 50% acceptance into the university
what’s considered “typical” stats for getting accepted generally into uw
i sorta found out too late that my second choice major was DTM
Typical that’s sorta hard to say. If you want to get into CS your unweighted would ideally be a 3.9 or 4.0. Into the university, above a 3.8
I’ve seen people get in with a 3.6 although there are definitely fewer
yeah i have a 4.0 unweighted
I have a 3.74 for engineering I hope I’m not cooked
I think ittle be fineeee
every single comparable cs program usually had a 25 of like 3.9 and a 75 of 4.0
i can go probably find the numbers tho
the university's goal is to admit good students, but also support wa students. so if you're a wa student you still have decent luck
yeah pretty much
they just dont let u in oos lol
83 kids out of 5060 is criminal
what the hell
out of state domestic admissions for cs over the last year (or 3 years? either way it doesnt matter)
does UW look at ACT in the admissions process?
if ur application is borderline and the score is above like a 1400 sat (i think this is what like a 32?) they look at it
ahhh gotcha
when does uwash release
2%>0%
Do UW look at my first semester senior grade? I kinda bombed it and I 'm afraid it will affect the decisions.
well georgia tech's was higher and that went nowhere
i figured washington would be more attainable
but 2% is yikes
getting rejected from one school doesnt give u an auto rej from antoher lol
yeah of course but it doesnt bode well
no they dont
if i applied for uw interdisciplinary honors, when do i hear back regarding that
same time as admission afaik
do you know if it’s two separate notifs or if it’s part of the same response like “you’ve been accepted into cs! you’ve also been accepted into the honors program!”
i dont know about wash specifically but for my other schools thats how it came
makes sense
It’s after afaik
when r decisions out
march
march what
unsure if they’ve said a specific day
k thx
i have better chance cuz im not cs
ngl I’m kinda worried that they’re not asking for my official sat scores
ik they barely ask anyone for them
but my academics are below average for them so it means either I didn’t make it or I cleared it with the rest of the app
this is probably a bit irrational but I kinda felt like I had to say it somrwhere
how competitive is uw neuroscience?
I’ve been wondering the same 😭
there’s like 60 seats
so probably very
Why the website so bad
There is no proper checklist
there is 1 page and like 2 paras saying they will ask if they need anything but all good for now
"zeemee!"
I'm doing it
When does uw rd come out again
more like 12 days
Yay
I love uw so much pls let me in 😭😭😭
sammeeeee
between march 1 and march 15
im pretty sure i saw that somewhere
Same.
^
Last year my decision came out on March 9. Will probably be similar for you.
how are you liking UW? I love the campus, academics are obviously good, but what about student life and stuff? making friends and things like that
I personally have enjoyed my time at the UW so far! I think that student life really is what you make of it. There are over 1000 RSOs but only about half of students probably are actually a part of one.
If you have no social life, your experience definitely won't be that great. I recommend doing all the events that happen during Dawg Daze and get out of your comfort zone a lot to meet new people. Most people will be just as uncomfortable but it's a great way to break the ice and hopefully create some friendships
thanks for the advice! now hopefully i just get in 🤞
best of luck!
Does anybody have info on instate direct to major acceptance rate for foster?
prolly around 20% if i had to guess (im just asusming its similar for cs in competitiveness)
here we go ig
shlawg acting like tmrw is doomsday
nah its just this school is one of my dreams
good luck 🙏
air stuff
space
If one wants to go into fusion would this be a good major for that?
yeah i've applied for this major
international lol
i've also heard this department provide a lot of internships in Boeing
cause the school is named after it
sure
Boeing is also huge in Seattle
they have assembly lines in Everett and Renton
and they do flight tests at Boeing Field in Seattle
udub s in general has a lot of opportunities for internships
best school in the region and a lot of huge companies (google, msft, meta, boeing, nasa i think? etc etc)
yeah exactly
purdue has this same major too. but i would prefer UW to it
uw campus is nicer + purdue l ratio
yes of course
around 35% acceptance rate
when does uw come out
2nd friday of march
shit
Where did you get this
since the past 3 yrs its coming that date
but there's a chance it might be realeased first friday of march too
Its kinda crazy to think that they prolly already made a lot of decisions on applications and are just waiting to finish all and then send them out
that being march 1?
inshallah
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
no pls im seeing dune 2 that same day and the decision is all i’ll be thinking about
ngl i was surprised people outside of wa actually applied here
i thought it was just a hodgepodge of seattle asian kids
do they do rolling decision releases between march 1 and 15
or like when can i expect to get a decision
yall get that uw email?
got me excited fr
yup, just got it
I actually hate that so much omg
they have to release in waves because otherwise their site would prob crash lol
website is pretty bad yeah
yo when did udub come out last year
With their CS program you would think they could find a better dev
yeah
hire one of the 500 graduates to make a website for u
isnt one of their cs classes about web dev
is it supposed to be aeronautical engineering?
aeronautical is just taught for 2 sems
the majority is aerospace engineering and astronautics
Whats udub s acceptance rate for class of 2027
42.8% overall
So less for OOS
Lowkey I might not be getting in guys 💀
What major?
Oh okay thanks, do you know specifically whats the acceptance rate for the college of arts and sciences
Me too lol
PoliSci which like not competitive but who knows
Neuroscience and microbiology for second choice im f-ed 💀
Oh neuro is competitive fr
Yeah how about microbiology?
My GPA, SAT, and course rigor are stellar but my ECs, essays, awards 💀
I'm not sure
I did test optional too 😭😭
Im cooked for next year
what stats would yall say are good for in-state cs
AR is 25% so you probably want 4.0 tbh as well as course rigor in things like AP Calc AB/BC, AP CSP/CSA, AP Phys 1/2/Mech/EM
lucky for me i have
all of those
:D
- a whole bunch of uwhs courses if those do anything to help
I mean I feel like you have a decent shot then
Idk anything about UWHS courses, I’m OOS so
they're just uw courses taught in high school
So DE essentially
