#UNC-Chapel Hill (2023-2024)
1 messages · Page 7 of 1
which sucks cause i didnt move on in morehead cain so i just dont get any aid
ah alright thanks
Assured enrollment to come to UNC after the semester abroad. You dont need to re-apply to come to UNC main campus after global launch
Theyre saying "after your term abroad, you are guaranteed a spot here"
In this case, its just wording, not the special program for assured enrollment for majors
i see
the other one guarantees spot in certain majors with reapplying
so did i just not the get the special rpgoram for assured enrollemts for majors?
this is what i put on my app
^
oh wait yeah let me see
where is this
it should be there if you scroll down a bit under the video
i do not see anything
Yeah looks like only assured enrollment for school not major
mmmm ok
in general how competitive is it to apply for cs and buisness at unc
like if i do well in my coursework
will i be fine
For cs should be fine but business can’t comment on
mm ok
business is one of the harder ones iirc
mk
are u cs?
Dang
Sure
Business is ec based too
is it based off stuff u did in hs
or can it be stuff u do in college
bc i got in oos and applied as cs so i only have lots of cs stuff
yk
College
mmm ok bet
oh you got in for global launch?????
yeah
is that good
im lowkey exicted to go
its so cool! do you get financial aid??
i got 1k LMAO
well i dont rlly need that much finaid
so im ok
my dad said he finna come thru
😭 did u commit??
no not yet
i'll wait for my other rds
but most liklely
ill prolly go to unc
pls wait
real ezana
😭
I mean I’m expecting the same but doesn’t hurt to wait
thats good
i cant choose between umich and unc
hoping umich gives some aid
Yeah fafsa gotta pull through lol
getting an acceptance is relieving till u realize u need to still do good in ur second semester courses 😭
im kinda scared for physics
yeah
💀
and spanish
walked into the room and the teacher was only speaking spanish
(havent taken spanish since freshmen year)
My lit teacher hates boys (I’m a boy)
Has anyone been able to set up duo for their ONYEN
CS is much better than business
I think business and HPM are the most competitive pre-prof programs
How hard is it to get into the cs major pre req class as a freshman
Which ones
I qualify for ap credit so I think I’d be able to jump straight into comp 210
I’d prefer doing that during the first semester
And u need comp210 to declare
I'm going to guess its going to be like most prereq classes where it's hard but not completely impossible if you're patient
Like getting on the WL
You're OOS yeah?
Yeah :(
My nasa internship wasn’t enough
Better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all
Plus you can always apply for transfer lol
And none of that is to try and dismiss or belittle feelings of sadness, disappointment, etc
Which are all reasonable, valid, and make sense
OOS is lower than Cornell so I was expecting it
actually idk what unc is on this year
a lot of my friends got rejected
we are all in state
so many qualified people from my school were rejected i was shocked
my friends all had 4.5s and 1500+ sats, and a lot of them were rejected...even coming from in state
idek what they want
its ok an ivy will take u
oos is brutal
ik many people that get into ivies get rejected from unc
sucks bc of that 82/18 policy
:<
Is it reasonable to get in as a first year student tho?
Not being able to declare cs by second semester will be a deal breaker for me
UNC sussy hill
I'll have to reach out to my UNC CS friends to be sure but I think so
UNC had a 15% increase in applicants this cycle iirc
And we dont have space to be admitting much more
We barely have enough dorms on campus for returning students
get a full ride to a peer school and negotiate w unc
can u change ur senior spring semester schedule
with one class
dropping one class and switching it out for another
or would unc rescind
how do i get a full ride 😭🙏
lmfao
I didn’t get in 😔
Literally emo depressed
But then I remember the transfer acceptance rate is 50%
College apps r all random bruh
Don't sweat it
I got in oos and while I am still very qualified I'm not like extremely extraordinary
Idk
oh i got in i was just kinda upset for my friends
they all def deserved to get in
we had a celebratory dinner planned
but now theres only two of us that can go
Why is it worse than UGA’s?
and 790 is from dec sat and 750 is august
Yes
so am i okay?
That’s fine
like total doesnt mean like indivaul highest cuz thats a 1490
ok thx sry
Sorry I am looking for roommate
did you get in unc ea?
And honors college like WHATTTTT
Okie
are cs classes needed to declare the major locked only for cs majors first year? I go to an early college so i should come in with >50 credits and was planning on double majoring in cs.
who?
Ughhhh I’m so mad I didn’t get into global launch at least
Like I’ll never get over this I’m so upset 😭
can anyone see an award offer
dont worry ur def getting in somewhere
its 1 school its not over yet
im still wondering if anyone got any scholars program
i got the blue sky one
I did
it didn’t have a name, just unc scholars
If I'm understanding correctly, no they are not locked. What matters is taking COMP 210, which is only restricted by prereqs iirc
CS is one of the few majors that requires admission before you can take the core courses. Here's the reqs and admission process
Please note, if you are a transfer student applying directly to the major, this page does not pertain to you. Please see the information here: https://cs.unc.edu/academics/undergraduate/ The demand for concentrating in a Computer Science program has grown significantly at … Read more
Generally though, as long as you take the prereqs and dont half ass your application, you'll be fine
Oh squirmy, do you know anything about the Carolina works work-study offer?! i’m not sure what it is but the scholar thing gave me $2500 for it
I'm not sure, sorry :(
how can i view my fin aid award? I dont understand the instructions they gavr
they said go into student center and click view package but i see nothing there
@inner quail how hard is it to get the classes u need in course registration?
Ngl its the worst for freshmen... generally you will be able to get at least some of the courses and the more patient you are, the more likely you are to get most or all of them
If you give me a few hours I can see if I can send a screenshot
Do yall have access to Connect Carolina?
Wdym by patient
Like dont give up on a class if you dont have an easy enrollment
Get on the WL, keep other sections and times open, show up on FDOC if necessary
Coursicle might still work for openings/WL
how do you like unc right now
i think one reaosn i want to go to unc aside from the great acdmeic school is
the amazing student body
Let me get on my PC so I can give you a full response, but the TLDR is I love it here and I'm grateful I stuck with it :)
yo bet!!
lowk i was thinking abt what i do with
unc vs umd
but i might just do unc bc i want even accpted to umd cs program
😭
Im having the same problem
Going off what I've heard at UMD and similar schools, you might have a better shot getting into UNC CS ngl
I got into umd cs for honors college
So idk if choosing unc over that would be right choice
Just because UNC CS is still like... not selective
Longer response:
I had a really tough first 2 years or so. I fucked up bad with my schedule first semester (3 stem @ 16 hours, DO NOT DO THIS), and my mental health rapidly declined and didn't really improve until the start of my 4th semester. But like, past intro classes, looking at the opportunities and work I have done and will do, this was probably the best possible choice for me. The opportunities and coursework between envsci and bio are perfect in preparing me for my career aspirations, and the higher level electives are just... so much more reasonable. They're more fun because they're what I want to be doing and not just the "prep" for what I want to do. (That being said, all the prereqs and prep work are definitely necessary. I guess it's like the hard grind of training and once you hit upper divs/free choice electives you get to flex your muscles a bit, if that makes sense)
idk i also have the global thingy for unc and its lie
thats like a once in a life time opportunity
yolo
so i just might
yeah thats what im thinking too
and i'll be a lot happier at unc than umd probably
not a diss against umd or anything but
mmmm
i see i see
imma just wait for some ucs but like
most likely i will be attending unc
@inner quail is unc greek life hella?
I'm not involved and don't know much abt it, but it certainly exists and isn't dying or anything
ic
hey!! anyone know how good the quantitative biology dept is at unc? im interested esp in genomics atm
probably very good i'd assume
since its biology
Quant bio?
Nah all good lol
I'm not a quant bio major technically (I'm not taking physics 2, but all my bio electives qualify for the quant bio track) but I think I can speak on it a bit
Honestly, super fun
I'm taking Personalized Quantitative Genomics right now with Dr. Laederach, very fun
I also took Statistics for Environmental Scientists, which was SUPER fun
The biggest differences between "normal" bio and quant bio are
- Quant bio has a much more limited pool of qualifying electives for the major
- Quant bio has less flexible additional requirements and some additional reqs (ex. calc 3, phys 2, off the top of my head)
The only reason I'm not doing quant bio is just the additional reqs lmfao
In-state
yeahh makes sense
do u think it will be a big cultural shift me as i got in oos and i come from a big city in cali
same question i have since i come from nyc metro area
im debating between the quant bio or trying to do the compsci ba with a bunch of bio electives? i feel like the latter would leave more room for other classes
"Default" biology (1st image) vs quant bio track
I mean, cs BA/bio BA could be worth considering
Or doing what I'm doing since you get the quant stuff anyways
Like, quant bio electives aren't exclusive to quant bio majors
But quant bio majors have to take 3 from a pool of specific electives for major reqs
Cultural maybe not? I've never been to Cali so I'm not sure how it would differ, the only thing I can really think of is "southern hospitality"
Coming from NYC I'm pretty sure isn't a huge culture shock tho
dang crazy u got umd cs + honors tho
bro i got in umd letters and sciences
im p sure that just emans no cs
💀
Since we have a lot of domestic migrants to RTP from NY lmao
bc internal transfer is not possible
yea prolly cant count on cs for umd
Cali sends a lot of people too tho so idk
im gonna be completely honest
the main thing driving me to unc over purdue/umd
is that unc is rank 22 overall 💀
its probably on the rise too 💀
top 4 public uni too
shits on top bro
will check them out!!! ty
finna get robbed asap i arrive there
Y'all talking about USNews rankings ignoring the fact that the Triangle is fucking bonkers for literally anything rn
uhm. uh uh uh
but isnt umd also good for stuff cuz of dc
Like idk if y'all were here when I talked about the Apple campus that's being built towards like the south of RTP
wtf
But a lot of big companies are trying to get into RTP
Because we're a great STEM hub
Like
alr im going unc 😂
RTP area has min 4 major colleges
Duke, UNC, NC Central, and NC State
We are powerhouses
damn
Especially in tech, agtech, biotech, energy...
We're no Boston but I'm not going to lie
Apple and Amazon are trying to get in here for a reason
do u happen to have any experience w the accelerated research program? i feel like the website is kinda vague as to what it actually is
I don't, I'm sorry :( I could ask around and see if anyone I'm acquainted with is though!
thats alr!!! would be awesome if you found someone but all good if not lol
I'm sure Dr. Shemer works with accelerated research students
for unc?
quick question
feel free to ask
what's the consensus on purdue vs unc for cs?
both oos
oh
should I fight my rejection somehow 😭 I want to go here so bad
u can do that??/
in state?
Oos
oh i was boutta say
shit hard asf oos 💀
And I know I can transfer but I really don’t want to
@chrome viper cs?
ohh ok
where else u get into
me with georgia tech 😦
Maryland 🤷
..
rip I feel u brotha ✌️
Wait why the …
OH YEAH omg no that’s not what I was saying
I love Maryland
but I’m still sad cuz my heart was so set
preesh
they’re a student 😭
transfer is always an option!!
or maybe if you get ur associates when u leave hs you can apply in the fall semester for spring at Carolina
Eeh
Are you taking more calculus in college?
I think you don't have to if you don't want to, but going into calc 2 with only AB credit was rough
if u dont get credit for it
oh maybe at unc im not familiar
Depends on what your calc 1 credit is
I didn't have to take MATH 231 because I got a 3 on AP Calc AB
It's suggested you retake but absolutely not a requirement
Afaik
also can u send in AP scoers
scores
u didn't indicate
on your application?
I have credit for two courses, I just didn't submit them because they were 3s
Do they still count as credit if u just send the scores through collegeboard?
I think so; iirc they need the scores to validate the course credit
Oh im sorry :(
UNC is really tough to get in OOS
yo wait
will it hurt me in any way
bc i have the lgobal thingy
my first semseter is gonna be at korea
so sinc eim cs will that hurt me or not really
No? I don't see why it would
right.
is there a unc discord server
There are a few. I think if you have a UNC email, you can sync it with your account and access the UNC Discord hub
One of the social clubs I'm on the board for, Zero Degrees, could be a good place to start if you want to chat with current students I think
yeah could u send me the link
are there pigeons in chapel hill
username checks out
Is anyone looking for a girl roommate in Granville
ur considering unc
?
I think so
I got honors college but I still want to hear from Duke Emory Northwestern……
yeah, i get that
i have like 15 decisions left i cant make any decision until april
but unc is amazing and i love the school sm
Yes that’s how I feel
i rlly like pigeons 😊🐦
mm
pidgeons are amazing and so so cute
when i see them in person i just think 😍 so majestic theyre so hard to come by
my thought process exactly 🤩🤩 i love the way their heads bob when they walk and all the fun colors they come in (gray! dark gray! gray with white spots! reddish brown sometimes!)
yes they're so cute
Rock pigeons have been observed here!
I've seen a lot of mockingbirds
OMG ok cool that is very good
any crows?
Yes!!!
nice
are there any instagram/discord dms/servers for unc?
ye is there an instagram gc or something?
If you get a UNC email (I believe once you commit), you can look at the UNC servers on the Discord hub
I'm willing to DM invite links to the social club at UNC that I'm on the board for
Yep!
I believe mine was a cup, a reusable straw, and some stickers
Forgot if they had anything else
bet!!!
im confused about global launch i applied business but got into CGL korea does that mean when i switch to main campus ill be at kenan flagler?
yeah thats what i thought too but
i guess not
i think you still have to apply
dang a lot of people got korea
i also got korea too
i only applied korea
oh
where does it say that
unless u got assured enrollment
which u check under special programs
u need to apply for buisness once there
oh
yeah i think anyone who got CGL doesnt have special opportunities
gonna ask in the info session ig
unfort
No
im sorta disappointed i iddnt get the global launch thing 😔 ireland wouldve been cool as shit
im confused i thought global launch was easier to get than regular admission
is it?
I don't think that's the case
To me, global launch seems like "we'd love to have you here, but we don't have space"
If they didn't want you they'd WL or reject lol
damn i was hype ready to commit but not sure anymore since i wouldnt be business
its sorta cool that they just ship the ppl they dont have space to off to like spain or smthn lol i appreciate that
You can still apply
is it difficult?
UNC doesn't do direct admit stuff
honestly my highschool gpa fucked me
So even if you got assured enrollment you'd have to do business prereqs and go through the application
rly? 2 of my friends got business were all oos
Assured enrollment != direct admit
oh
now im even more confused lmao
Okay
When you get accepted to UNC, you get accepted to the college of art and science
got it
They give out a small number of "assured enrollment" spots which are kinda like conditional offers for pre-professional majors (business, HPM, biostats, journalism, etc.)
They're basically saying "we're saving you a spot when you apply"
You still have to meet the prereqs for the major like other students
There's just not a question of if you get in or not really lol
Easier to get into the business major than into UNC lol
I don't know the exact acceptance rate tho
im just concerned i would go and be unable to study exactly what i want yk
yeah but even then having that uncertainty wouldnt be great lol
worst case id do econ ig
For sure
Have you looked at the specific courses for the business major and made sure that's the path you want to take?
guess its too soon to be thinking about this i got a lot of decisions coming
yeah they look interesting
most importantly id wanna be around other business majors in class
For sure yeah
And yeah, you have other decisions, so there's no pressure to decide right now. Just something to think about in the meantime
ig if im able to get in oos w my shitty high school gpa i can get into the business school as well
esp if i apply multiple times
and if that doesnt work out then econ 🙂
Yeah and I'm assuming you have the passion to write a good statement of purpose
Put together some good business ECs and such
I think the AR hovers around 50%
oh thats not bad at all
Yeah lol
alr nvm im not stressed about that anymore
only thing is if i go to korea it might be difficult to get into the social scene
id wanna do greek life but guessing rush is in fall
Some frats rush spring too I think
But that might just be academic frats/honors societies
I'm not sure bc I'm not involved lol
do you know anyone that studied in korea i can talk to?
I don't, I'm sorry :(
no worries
im so relieved i finally have an option id be super satisfied with and proud of going to
yo!!
well
im going this year
same!!!
Literally still not over how I got rejected 😭
I actually need to move on
Im gonna ask about global launch but I’m in my denial phase rn and I’ll have to unfollow thread soon
bro its okay
i felt like shit after i got rejected from my ed1 school washu
but just realize u will probbly get better opporutnities in the future
just forget the past
and i did in a unc acceptance
and u will in some other acceptnace
I think if there are they'll send an email to us abt it in the next week
anyone know oos ar to business school?
There is no direct admit to any major at UNC, and in state vs OOS doesnt matter once you're at UNC
oh okay. so if i go to unc how would i get into the business school there?
u go in undecided to unc right?
Eeh kinda?
95% of majors are in the college of arts and sciences and thats where everyone starts
They do take into account the major on your application to assign you a STEM or humanities advisor
I think you do have to officially declare by the end of your 4th semester
But I'm not exactly sure bc I switched majors a bunch
I never had to declare a major I just switched and advising put it in my profike/transcript/whatever
How hard is it to get assured enrollment
I’m so confused why did the reject me even after giving me a scholarship and honors
so odd
And my essays were on health policy too
I know for env health sci they gave it to like 4-6 people (in my year)
Acceptance and offers from other things doesnt rly correlate bc its not admissions decision really
I would imagine the department decides for assured enrollment
HI
🤩
yesss ❤️
so does marking comp sci on ur common app make any difference in getting into the cs major
like when i apply in the spring semester, will they consider the fact that I directly applied to be a cs major when i was in hs
i dont think so
everyone goes in as undecided
maybe they give priority registration for cs intents? idk
i just know u have to apply for their CS program after ur first year or something and u must pass the pre reqs
has anyone else gotten a call abt the carolina scholars program?
a
No. The only thing the major identification thing on your app does is tell them whether to pair you with a stem or humanities advisor afaik
call? no
it should say in ur letter
or are u a scholar and they call admitted ones??
yeah it said in my portal that i got the scholarship and then i got a call about it which was pretty cool
was wondering if anyone else got invited to the same program since it seems like there r a bunch of diff scholarships
how cold does north carolina get in winters
the weather here is so uneven
last wednesday to friday it was like 70-80 degrees and now today it was 40
omg wait congrats!!
Depends on the year ngl
2 weeks ago it was consistently in the 20s-30s, last week it was 60s, now its 30s-40s
On average tho the last few years its in the 30s during the winter
I was!
Didn’t get a call tho? Maybe bc I’m oos?
cold af 💀 this is hypothermia weather ngl
can someone accelerate global warming pls!
squirmy i think this is your area of specialty
Indeed!
Oh it's not gonna be any better during the summer if we do that
It's about the same
Usually doesn't hit 105 but it's absolutely not an extreme/unreasonable
Heat index regularly hits 105 though
is love for my winters to just be 30s. we’ve had lots of negative temps
Nah fr I can barely stand 20s 😭
Back in high school I went in shorts when it was 17, I have no idea how I survived
Although certain times/locations we have very chilly mornings that warm up quite nicely
Moreso spring/fall
tay no good things only about purdue pls 💀
just get a scarf
1 scarf will not cut it :(
I'll need to transform into a woollen burrito to survive
My recs for sensitivity to the cold:
- get clothes that are good for blocking wind
- masks during the cold months are perfect (and protect you from catching germies)
- dont hesitate to layer, although keep in mind the buildings will be warm
Usually my legs are fine but investing in some fleece leggings to layer under pants/sweatpants could be good
hmm im oos too so i dont think its that? could be that they just havent gotten to calling everyone yet!!
yeah def
Shit picture outside Coker as I'm busting my ass to get to class
hey wait
so im a bit confused by the global launch program cost
so its 21.5k
and oos tution is 60k a year but since
1 spend my first semester @ global launch
is the tution 21.5 + half of unc(30k) so in total its 51.5k
or is it 81.5k
@inner quail
It should be closer to 50k?
Since you pay tuition by semester
So even if tuition is 60k/yr you pay 30k/sem
yeah right?
Is global launch not covered by aid???
No
that’s how much instate all together costs for the whole year
!!!
unc in state residents have it ez!!
wait how much is out of state
around 60 a year
which i mean isnt great but luckily finaid isnt like an issue for me
is there a reason that my friend who lacked behind a little in her academics and school got waitlisted from chapel whereas i straight up got rejected despite being near top of my class? (happy for her obviously, but shocked on where i went wrong)
bc
its a holistic procress
LORS + ESSAYS play a HUGE role in apps
i see
ik rejections r part of the process but should i feel bad. i cant help but think i fumbled smth, despite knowing i couldve easily gotten in
did u apply in state?
yep
if u applied in state thats actually kinda wild bruh 😭
can u like appela ur rejection
it is... 😭
maybe it is bc i technically qualify as a non-immigrant student? i reside in the USA but without permanent residency
ive heard a lot of colleges r hesistant when they get those type of applictions. not sure tho
idk if thats a thing
bruh wtf.
wdym
like its crazy u got rejected then
Intl acceptance rate is much much lower than in-state
And if you dont have permanent residency, you are intl not us citizen
Even if you are in NC
And considering that unc’s intl student ratio is 6.1% of total students, rejection does make sense
bruuuuh 😭
Dont get me wrong
The acceptance rate might be higher than 6.1%
But 6.1% means it either has really low acceptance rate or yield rate
If the yield rate is low, unc might be reluctant to accept more intl students in future
bruh that is so unfortunate.
damn
but my friend is also itnl who got waitlisted
so is it js bad luck...?
No one knows
I see some people claiming in this discord that you got rejected because ___
But dont understand their opinion as your sole source of information
They are not AOs. So no one knows except your AO
They often waitlist people
But again, waitlist acceptance rate is very low for unc
but waitlist is still a consideration right? rejections js a rejection
thats whats kinda stinging
where did i trip?
Not LOL
Yesterday I had to turn on my AC and run my fan, because it was too hot in my house at 8pm
define hot
I just got back from idaho where it was -16
💀
I'm mildly overstating it, but I get hot very easily
and I despise the summers here
thats the temp i keep the ac on 💀
when its like 100
I set mine to 74 while awake and 70ish while asleep, but for the most part I keep it off
I don't have heat
fair enough
I only have basic PV setup and AC can cause my power to shut off it kicks in at the same time as my icemaker
which doesn't happen that often
but is annoying
coming home and having everything shut off
Omg GeorgiaTech
idek how
I forgot to check my portal and found out yesterday
Lucky 😦
I don't really know much about the school. I just started researching it yesterday when I got in. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
You accepted at UNC-CH?
oh wait they come out today
I'm dumb
No I got rejected by UNC chapel hill
Wait they are already out?
Days ago
I thought they release em on jan 31st
Go check your portal.
I don't need to, I didn't apply EA and my school has an acceptance pact with the UNC system.
I already know that I am in
Well, I hope you get accepted elsewhere
Some of these things r difficult to predict
Don’t put it on urself
And you’re technically an intl applicant so it was stacked against you to begin with
Unc is very holistic
Latest possible date for EA decision release
It seems they prefer to do it the last Friday of the month tho
The process isn't entirely in your control, so I don't think it's fair to blame yourself like this. When it comes to college admissions, or a lot of decisions really, not everything is in your control when it comes to the final decision; not everyone is going to look at you and the things you do the same way. You could've done all the things you thought you needed to get in, and still gotten rejected. I'm not an AO, but there are literally infinite reasons they can reject you. One of my readers was hesitant to admit me because I "could've been first violin sooner if I put in the effort" (??? like I wasn't trying) which is such a fuckin weird thing to say lmfao.
omg they really said that
first violin second violin does not matter
like what lol
they're more delulu then us
Tbf it was only one reader
And they yapped so much in the notes it was hard to follow lmfao
The other person gave a nice short summary of the things I wrote about and my ECs and simply "admit"
wait dr squirmy how did u access ur file?
There's a link somewhere
Idk it's been a year or so since I did it lmao
It's hard to get an appointment tho I know that
Unc waitlist is basically a rejection
They admit like 0.2% 💀
last year 2k waitlist accepted 27
It’s so expensive too 😭
If it makes u feel better
I thought my unc supps were some of my worst since it was the first app o submitted
And I still got admitted
So it’s really very random, don’t blame urself or have regrets for what u could’ve done different
anyone else get unc honors
how do u know
I assume if it is like NC State they tell you if you got honors within 2 weeks of admission
mm
You have to apply for honor tho
i did put that
on myapp
i also put down assured enrollment but
im assuming i didnt recieve it
i didn't apply for anything
they just told me in my letter
they just choose the top 10% of applicants
who get in
can u show me what u mean
it shouldve been in your decision
if its not there then you didnt get it
that goes for honors & assured enrollment
yeah it was the sentence right after they said i got in
what is assured enrollment
they save you a spot when you apply for a pre-professional major
so you dont have to "worry" abt getting rejected
you did not get assured enrollment into a major
wait im confused
got it
it's just for a specific major not for getting into the school right
in this case, what "assured enrollment at Carolina" means it that he will not have to re-apply for spring 2025
ohhh so this is for spring semester ppl
u get honors if it says it in ur special opportunities and it’s the second or third sentence in the congrats letter
assured enrollment, as in related to the special opportunities for majors, is for select majors (journalism, business, hpm, nutrition, env health sci, biostats, info sci) and separate from admission to UNC
do y'all know anything about the type of ppl who get honors and how it is different than the typical undergrad experience
if you are accepted you are accepted and not into a specific major
idk abt the "type" of ppl who get it but i think there was a recent reddit post abt this that i can grab
thanks goat
also since im going to have to apply for CS @ UNC...right now i got a 4 on ap comp sci a(ik I sold) so I only get credit for comp 101...do u think i should retake it this year and actually study get a 5 and also get out of the comp 110 requirement so that will help my application?
or not really worth
just take 110
shows you can handle UNC rigor
kk
testing out of classes only really matters to save time & money lmao
like its suggested for bio/chem majors to retake biol101/chem101/chem102 if they get AP credit because (1) if they're premed, med schools will see they skipped typically difficult UNC coursework and (2) AP courses dont compare to the college course at all
mmmm
also do you happen to know anyone who did/is doing the russian flagship program?
yeah
i dont wanna buy merch until im committed
but carolina blue is so pretty
😍
i have too many decisions left
and parents keep thinking unc is like iowa
i keep convincing them unc is amazing but they dont wanna listen. :(((
they’re amazing but idk they just never have heard of Carolina they think it’s a normal state school
but @inner quail what are the best doubles dorms? I saw them online on unc’s website and they didn’t look the best, but looked ok
Hmm
Id have to look at the first year ones
Idk if Alexander is still first year
But I liked it there
noo my parents r the opposite my mom is so obsessed with unc 😭😭 its so cute she keeps telling me abt all the different programs and reading pages from the honors carolina website
Aww that’s amazing
Despite what I said my parents are the least prestige obsessed people
They just haven’t heard of unc
ikrr i think she also appreciates the scholarship which i can obviosly understand lol
yeahh makes sense 😔 mb its more well known where i live? i get more street cred than i woudlve thought when i tell ppl i got into unc
im from NJ and everyone heard of unc here
yeah im in PA and most ppl seem to know abt it
I’m from the Midwest
small town things ig
probs
yo should i be concenred
i forgot to include a coiurse i took senior year
in my common app
for unc
but i got accepted and i got an A in the class
for ea
so should i be worried
no
counselor probably already put that in ur transcript anyways
yeah
its in my mid year
im j worried bc tyhey acceptedme w/out knowning that course
but i got an A in it
so ti wouldve helpe dme anywas
@inner quail forgot about this but my course schedule when applying to unc was significantly different compared to my schedule now
but my schedule now has the same rigor
should i update them and will they recind my acceptance
wdym
- You should update them for credit purposes
- You will not be rescinded
It takes a lot more than "I changed my schedule" to get rescinded from any school 😭
I understand the anxiety
idk im not super worried lol but i kinda was cause i said id be taking classes at my state university
and the classes were hard, like 3000 level
but since those were full i had to dual enroll at my cc again
so there was a change in rigor
Getting rescinded is reserved for like
Lying on purpose, committing crimes, dropping out
Massive changes
Not like "oh the classes I wanted to take, I couldnt :("
The people who evaluate your app and decide whether or not to rescind you are still human
@inner quail
do yk how much u can slack off senior year
and not get rescinded
i kinda have a B in a class rn
like a low B
kinda scared it'll go to a C
i got straight As first semester
and guarenteed
2 As this semester
so 6/8 of my senior classes are As
would they rescind over a C? it's not likely ill get a C but just in case
Youre going to be fine 😭
It's spanish 3 bru
i havent taken spanish since freshmen year
its so hard to keep up
i was gonna switch my schedule but i heard its bad to
Yall need to stop worrying abt being rescinded 😭 If it happened for small shit like schedule changes and one poor grade you'd hear more abt it actually happening and not just ppl asking if it could happen
so like most likely not
I know college decision season is rough emotionally but pls trust me when I say you're not going to get rescinded
You're going to be fine
and AP physics is gonna be a pain in the ass...
have u ever heard of anyone
acc getting rescinded
excluding the like
felonies
I cant even find anyone on the subreddit who says theyve gotten rescinded
or like actual ilegal stuff
i was scouring reddit
some ppl said they did
for a C
no not unc
Yeah then I would not worry
Just bc other schools would or have doesnt mean UNC will
I literally know zero ppl who have gotten a UNC offer rescinded
is UNC more lenient
cuz dont they ask if like
ur grades drop significnantly
i was a straight A student
when i applied
also like bruh its spanish...
its not like calc
They arent robots like... they can see your transcript, your schedule, they dont expect people to be working at 120% after decisions come out. They're not just going to see a C and rescind, theyre not stupid
or an important core class
ah
i guess
i do have 5 APs this year
no
6
but is it bad to get a C in an honors course
as opposed to AP
CO28 is fucking neurotic as hell jesus christ 💀
like i feel like theyd understand more if it was like AP calc bc
a C in that
is reasonable
but SPANISH??
im embarassed myself
lord
I'm not saying that being anxious is bad or unreasonable but its not helping you and its not worth the energy stressing over something that will not happen
real
dude i thought all my worries would go away after unc acceptance
😭 never having that stressfree senior life everyone was telling me abt
that's true, but honestly the environment im in just makes it like hard not to worry abt stuff
my predicted scores is 95.6 do you think if I get a 91 they wont rescind 😭
Yeah and I dont think its wrong or unreasonable or makes no sense to be worried
I'm just kinda tired of seeing it everywhere bc literally every time its a "no"
And then ppl try and argue why ok but maybe maybe maybe
do u think if i launch a firecracker in my school they'd be pissed enough to email unc
Like there's no point in arguing over it bc no, getting a C will not get you rescinded. Thats not opinion, thats literally how its been for years
Some kid DM'd me asking if he'd get rescinded from going from "100s with occasional 98-99" to "mostly 98-99 with occasional 100s"
ok now thats
LMFAO
nah thats my friend when she came to me saying shes failing calc
and i asked her what grade
and she said 96
I think a2c co28 needs intensive therapy asap
This happened to me in biol101
Super stressed premed girlie cried in my arms bc she had a 94 and was worried about an A-
While I had just missed a quiz and was rocking a solid 72 on the last exam
LMFAO
I feel like 95% of premeds here never grew out of the HS grindset
maybe that's why they're all docs now
is that a diff
like a 3.9
between 4.0
We do have fantastic med stuff, both med school and nursing, considering we have a hospital on campus lmao
Yes
but ive heard so much abt how like in college
A- is 3.7
Yeah all you need for credit is a C
Your grades dont matter in the real world
I got a -63 on a midterm
Which got corrected to a 32
me junior yea when median was a C- 💀
Define good
cece whats your major again
Kinda
You dont get admitted to a major but you can declare any AS major at any time as a freshman rly
inchresting
