based on financial circumstances
^^
I'm going to cry
86k a year?
In my experience it's the opposite lol
are you getting paid to go?
i thought private gave more bc of alumn system
I've gotten around that much from all the schools that meet 100% demonstrated need
like I’m particularly well off and I got 2750 per term not counting the presidential scholarship money I got lol
which makes sense
so my total financial aid is 22.5K/yr
Most privates nowadays r pretty generous & reasonable w aid i find
like if you fall within X income then you get 100% need met
for example $150K means there’s 0 EFC for Columbia and now Dartmouth
yes yes
guys i'm not going to be in debt!
yes
im actually surprised
Ok what
but now I jus gotta wait for the 9 schools remaining and compare the quality of education proportional to the money I have to pay to each school LOL
exactly my plan
did the email say how much tuition was
Need to appeal financial aid, seems like since they’re generous with aid they might give a lot on an appeal 🙏
Wait I have a question for yall
so it’s $17K for 5 years per presidential
what’s the $17K for the fifth year lol
is that money that can be used for two additional semesters or something
Alright this not bad I actually got options now
I have the exact same questions
Why didn't I just ED somewhere istg
Jesus
I just want to know where I'm going 😭
gwu sends u all this aid just for all of it to be nearly 100k a year 💀
What if I just committed to American and withdrew all of my other apps guys 😭
I won'tttt
But I hate not knowing
yeahhh
privates cost a lot more 😭
i would be paying around 4k out of pocket
Somehow got waitlisted at the GW
welcome to the club
Thanks. I'll be denying my placement on the waitlist tho.
bro i dont see my aid
Every single school megathread I’ve followed in this discord I’ve been waitlisted, I think I’m cursed
is this rolling
I'm so cooked for the remainder of my decisions tho
gmail?
same
?
@half phoenix It's ok I won't get mine for at least 2 weeks ❤️
my non custodial wasnt processed LMAO
ok so my friend has this issue too
Everyone is like "wahhh FAFSA this" "wahhh FAFSA that" ok sure it's delayed as fuck but at least it doesn't take 2000000 years to fill out
I think that combined I have quite literally spent 20+ hours on CSS
bro why cant they just use my css
only
NO SERIOUSLY
Yepppp
I've gone through this so many times now
It's not even funny
I have all the shit ready once I get my mom's signature
💀
macalester didnt ask me for my noncustodial they literally just asked for css+2 tax forms
I KNOW
EVERY SCHOOL SHOULD DO THIS
I had to do it for Reed and American already
But I guess I just forgot for GW!!
Plus they never sent me ANYTHING
Saying "Hey btw maybe do this"
I KNOW I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THEIR FINANCIAL AID PORTAL EXISTED TILL YESTERDAY
My other school were on me about that which like good for them
THEY DONT EVEN BOTHER TO CORRESPOND
YEAH SAME
same with northwestern
SO I THOUGHT I HAD SENT THE WAIVER ALREADY
BECAUSE THEY WERENT SENDING ME ANYTHING
Guys off topic but I heard that if you’re getting a STEM degree GWU is NOT the place 😭
I applied cause location and good places for political internships (As a stats major I wanna use statistics to further legislation on like AI art and Environmental policies) but the STEM programs are apparently mid?!! 😭😭😭
AND I COULDNT SEE A FINAID CHECKLIST ANYWHERE
Anybody in this thread who is a currently matriculated student?! Help??
stats double major with polisci (is that what you want?) is solid at gwu
I hate the whole process for this
GW STEM probably isn't terrible but it definitely isn't what they're known for
bro i can't believe i got into SMPA
Fr I think they’re known for their good public health and political communications
Idk what this is tbh
anything related to political science and international affairs
Is that the policomms school
yeah the communications school
I’m deffo majoring in stats and the minor is either gonna be bio, philosophy, or poli sci (any of these three will help with making environmental and social change and impact on communities I care for)
I’m undecided
if you want to work on the hill gwu is amazing for this
Already have a plan for grad if I do it at GW 💀
are you interested in going to gw
Yep their whole philosophy on like activism and social change really resonated with me, I’m just more interested in stats as like a field of study cause it’s so applicable to social change if that makes sense
Lowkey I hope that when I tour AU and GW on April 6th the difference is night and day so I don't have trouble making a decision
I can't wait to be committed
Because right now the stress of not knowing is detracting from my ability to do high school
A2C goated as usual
NOO
i think i nevee got my fin aid package for a week or smth thinking ab it cuz there was a delay for mine
yay i got the president's academic scholarship
YAY
r u going for gw admitted day
gw is the BEST place for activism
That’s the impression I got from their website and stuff but Source? 😂
Not admitted day but I’m touring
I can’t do admitted
The amount of times I've had to send pretty much this exact email
😭
i had something similar
i need to go back and check
yehq i had to spam call fin aid office and i got in touch w a special counselor who helped me w the process
accepted 15th didnt get official email until 22nd
i got my aid initially over the phone and then by email
phone may be quicker
@fallen summit
I’ll call in 2 weeks if I don’t have it still
But I just now submitted my NCP waiver so
Looked through my aid package and only got a 45k scholarship and 5.5k in loans
Excluding the loan, I would still need to give 44k
kk
no need based grant?
Nope
I would have to pay 44k per year if I end up going
At that point, I might as well go to Purdue
Which has a better engineering program and costs less
But gw would allow me to stay in the northeast
And I do like dc
So those are 2 pros
AM SCARED NOW
Ya’ll I am seriously considering this school but I’m afraid the rich kid party school image might be true 😭
Every expensive private school is gonna have their rich kids, especially in HCOL area. The truth of the matter is unless you’re dirt poor and getting basically a full ride, or are full pay , these 80-100K private schools are unaffordable
kills off the middle class kids there
Yeah those rich kids prolly paid for my scholarship 💀
I like the political/activism culture but if it’s just a bunch of spoiled rich kids, do they really understand the nuances of politics from a diverse viewpoint? 😭
every school gonna have that
i mean the school is v liberal and progressive so
Late but also if you're talking D.C. schools it's way worse at GTown 💀
Pros/cons of GW?? Reddit post from 2 years ago might not be the same so I j wanted an update:]
heard pre-med is somewhat good + its in dc so its very easy to find internships and job opportunities
Apparently they release aid in batches?
I made a call and they said that they release it in batches
if u call fin aid tey can give ur offer over the phone
i did that for ed
they gave it to me 3 days before i got the official aid letter
Allegedly GW need-based this year is rough
if its terrible then I probably will have to commit elsewhere
I got no need based aid
oof
gw fin aid will be the death of me
Apparantly the notifs thing on my portal said i got my estimate but I never recieved it
so back to calling fin aid
idk if youre still active but i made another phone call and they said the fin aid estimate will be in 2 weeks
🙃
Got mine just now
is it good?
Better than I thought definitely
Now for it and American I guess it comes down to how my tours go this weekend
Because it's only $2.5k more than American now
Hmmm nope that's a lie actually
Hold on
Ok so $3,002 more
Still better than I expected
yea idk why people were saying the aid is bad
its pretty good for me
For a lot of people it was apparently
BTW this doesn’t include Fafsa grants
are you still leaning more towards american?
I would say yes but it's closer now
I really thought GW was bound to be >$40k
I like the idea of a real campus more and not being quite so close to everything
But AU GenEds are rough
So there's pros and cons
We will see
Is it less strict at GW?
Much less
AU doesn't let you apply AP/IB credit to GenEds
GW does
And I have a lot of AP/IB credit
That’s unfortunate
it doesnt seem that terrible at gwu from what im reading rn
are you ccas for gw?
yes
its kind of vague but im pretty sure id complete most of these reqs for my major anyways
i have a lot of credits through dual enrollment as well so its probably going to be even more relaxed for me
yea same and gw pretty much takes all dual enrollment credits from what they say on their website
did u see it through GWeb?
Well usually you can't overlap general education with major requirements...
Unless it specifically states that you can
They sent me an email and then I saw it through my GWeb as well
oh shit
fuck I'm gonna be spending like 2 years on gen ed and major pre requesites
You typically have to take GenEds in addition to the requirements for your major(s)/minor(s)
They gave me a horrible FA offer and then the IB scholarship when i got my admission letter but idk if they are resending FA awards after fafsa is delivered
They should finalize after FAFSA but it likely won't change much
I believe it only changes if something in your FAFSA is significantly different from the info in your CSS
from what I can tell its just slightly higher for me because FAFSA has a pell gran that isnt included
i think you can sometimes at gwu
yea ccas isnt too hard
u can
my polisci prereqs worked for gpac
the only thing u might have a hard time is with elliot
because some of their courses might not double count with another major or concentration
so its a bit complicated for elliott
Oh then I can take way less courses than I expected
yes
corm got in like
60 creds or wtv
if u bring that much
u def have room to double major
and minor even
but it depends
if he just did polisci hed prob be graduating like this sem or next yr lmao
maybe not 60 but Im probably gonna have like 3-4 courses
yea
Withdrew 🫡 goodbye channel, best of luck to anyone on the waitlist
NOO
Damn all in on American, 🫡
hes only going there because of the twinks
Surely he’s going there because of the cornerstone program and not that!
its okay gwu has better ones
REAL
W
I didn't accept my admission into gw. Hopefully someone who is on the waitlist gets my spot
And maybe my scholarship
waitlied students aren't eligible for merit just need based 💔
Ah. That's unfortunate
Ay off the waitlist but I don’t have my aid offer yet
Congrats!
ty anyone know how long it takes for me to recieve my aid offer?
They sent it within an hour of me being accepted
Not sure if it's different for waitlist people
Something that's weird on gweb it says that the unsatisfied requirements are a copy of my W2 and my prior year's tax returns (i've never filed taxes) so that's kinda whack
