#Stanford University (2023-2024)

lucky you
2/3 of them have showed me so Fr
i probably could get my teachers to show me, but i'm the most curious about my counselor's (and i dont think she's ever gonna show me)
I wouldn’t ask
yeah ik
My counselor didn’t show me either
i wont
i have to say, though, she really helped me with my predicted grades and everything else, so i'm confident it'll be at least decently good
W
yup read my img above
fellow school counselors prob
he knows some people in the trade
yeah but by cracked I mean like extremely good
Hm I see
As in admissions consultants
Or admissions officers
not gon dox him but he worked at admissions at one point in time
dunno if fellow admissions consultants or AOs
probably? idk
ah
then
i wouldnt go for it
you saw what the colleague said
REA is a death knell
If I get rejected nbd as I am not married to the idea of any school tbh
I don't have a dream school
My friends parents worked at Stanford he wants to know if that is considered legacy?
p sure not
what are chances of getting off waitlist
They ask on common app if any of your parents have ever been employed so does it mean anything
no clue
i am
yes you get boost
Good for you I hope you’re prepared for every scenario though!!
i'm applying to 26 schools 😭
so thats my "real" confidence
They could be considered a faculty child depending on what their parent did
Real asf
Not as big as legacy right?
I think it may make marginal difference
Ie If youre on the cusp of being deferred they may take a second look and say “oh this person’s parent worked here, they’re more likely to come here, let’s defer instead of reject”
Got it thanks 👍
I’m so happy I grinded during the summer I wrote 20 apps 💀
But now I’m procrastinating on the final 3
nah
stanford best supps
Me when my dad works at a post grad school instead of undergrad 🔫
They were the first ones I did
my stanford supps wrote my michigan, purdue, USC, UIUC, Gtech
Helped me sm for my other apps
agreed
One of my Stanford supps opening lines has appeared in almost every app
my other supps suck compared to my stanford ones
cause its like frankstiened versions where i shove in words or cut stuff
but it like ruins them in a way
one of my USC supps
i copied 2 stanford 50 words
and half a 250 word
and called it a day
its like sort of good
but its like 3 different essays
nahh
they all switch up the word counts and ask goofy prompts tho
diversity essay recycling goes hard
my community essay for umich is shit
so ima redo
cant use that as diversity
im the least diverse mf out there
🙏
thats what im so scared abt
aint no way ur alr doing rd supps
i got burnt out from ea 😭
yall gon see that 7/23 slowly become 20 then 18 then 15 then 13 😭
youre putting why us in your CAPS?
if i get in stanford its because my essays are goated
if i get in anywhere else
its depsite my essays
which school makes u do that lmao
ah ok
mfs straight stole common app prompt
im so glad i picked that one bro
used it for CAPS, national merit app, apply texas, ut, a&m, and georgetown
🙏
stanford
yes i love stanford
great school
dont know why im applying bc i realistically have no shot
yolo ig
sup gang
manifest
yurrr wsg did u finish all ea
submitted vandy neu and uiuc today !!
submitting uconn on nov 1st
and im set until january 😍
yeah but their merit scholarships are due dec 1
and i cant access that until i submit
wym
do it !
Does common app have a 10 activities limit
yes
vandy merit scholarships are so good
theres multiple ones such as cornelius vanderbilt scholarship but i think theres like 3 diff ones with diff prompts
i only filled 9 💀
ohhhh
thats what i did
still couldnt include my poverty ahh job

My EC’s are a little overpowered tbh
Awards are average
GPA above average
Rank average
how many people get merit scholarships to vandy?
ingram cornelius chancellors (im applying to all three)
ok research robot
Essays=gonna be stellar 😎
not a lot
thats so many essays bro
spill
vandy itself is hella tough imagine that even harder
one of them is robotics president and I’m applying for stanny aerospace
worth it if i get in
fair
thats literally the best one
idt ive seen anyone get in bro every person gets WL at vandy istg
what
and I’m working with a house of rep
and I’m currently seeking a stem internship
so yeah hopefully that thats
those sound good but im ngl ive seen all 3
robotics prez at school?
multiple times
yeah
seeking
They’re not uncommon
i think my school is a vandy feeder cuz we send so many people there a year
thats wild
even through we're public
tyty
how many schools yall applying to
Stanford, Caltech, Berkeley, UMich, UT and UNM
sheesh
None of these have any strategical advantage in terms of that
tru tru
I was gonna apply to ivies
But my dad said only do engineering schools since that’s what I want
So I was like oh well 🤷♂️
aww thanks 😅
ehh not quite but I’ll make the most out of what I have
Mainly essays
fax
unm only safety?
also doing the UC app just for berk is insane
and ut
you should apply to some other UCs too
ut engineering isnt a safety
UCLA is nice
even if youre auto
i think UCLA is nicer than UCB anyways
True
I’m just targeting engineering specific schools
ut instate is such a blessing fr
and tbh I don’t really wanna go to Purdue or gatech
yea but doing 4 250 word piqs for just berk is crazy
…
thats basically what you do for purdue
have your parents offered to pay for berk?
purdue honors college makes my wanna kms
nah
at this point
I’m ready to accept my student debt
cost isn’t a factor in selecting schools
and my parents couldn’t pay that if they lived a thousand lives
I’m in a program that helps and oos thanks fully
no
ive never heard of this before
but there’s a program exclusive to my school
linked to a magnet school with a bunch of alumni
blablabla certain activity/course that certifies participation
basically auto admit
it’s complicated
but it’s guaranteed
but to be safe
so youre 100% guaranteed right
I’m adding a&m
Yeah
any participant of the program and you need to maintain top marks to be in it
cool cool
the coordinator is ut alumni
is it auto into ur major
no
or j the school
Just the school
oos tuiton?
it is also linked to a current state house of rep and former professor of ut
there are some links to scholarships but wouldn’t help as much as in state
thats a killer
a huge advantage of ut is instate
privates are prolly better then
since they give more aid
I just looked up A&M
oos publics basically give nothing
a&m is even worse for applying
yeah
especially engineering
miss when engineering acceptance rates were above 50% 😔
I manifest that everyone here gets in 😊
My friend got off vandy’s wl last year
LET'S GOOOO
Yay!
Tfw I ended up talking about tomatoes in two of my short answers
Lmao
stanford cant look at sat by demographics anymore
do they work rn
yes thats legacy
no but hes an int'l student
selecting certain majors gets you that too 🤯
not in the same regard
they only rate an individual part of ur application
legacy is basically you get a third admissions officer, if the first two dont take you to conmittee
Which majors?
Makes sense
Wait how does this work
I thought it was one admissions officer per region
And then committee if you get past initial screen
Nah
idk the source but ask @dim badge
ive never heard of humanities getting an extra one
Nah my source is pretty good
that you dont get 2?
bruh everyone gets 2 minimum
That + the humanities bit
what humanities lmao ive never heard of this
theres no way theyre giving people applying to humanities the same boost as legacy when theyre a school that doesnt admit by major
are u sure? that doesnt make sense at all since they dont admit by major
unless ur talking about how they review a specific component of ur application
Not admitting by major is very misunderstood
And mostly cope by CS kids anyway 💀💀
Obviously your major is going to influence your application
stanford is heavy cs
i might be wrong on that actually
but the vast majority are engineering/cs
Idk what your point is
they arent admitting a quota of cs majors
I don’t see anyone saying they are
what im trying to say is your major only influences your application in the context of your application and if you're ready for it. its more about fit
like if you've taken the maximum amount of cs courses at ur school and done cs ecs
theyll take that into consideration
or you would be disadvantaged if u were to apply to humanities with no humanities ecs, rigor in humanities, or interest for humanities in essays
Well yeah
They take everything into consideration
But idk how that relates to what you said
what does it mean to admit by major
tell me
Idk
But people think it means that the major you’re applying for doesn’t matter
When that is not the case
it matters for in the aspect they expect that major to match to your story but your chances are virtually the same as if you were gonna apply to any other major with a profile that matches it
Well no
yes, its an example of correlation not causation
people in certain majors (ex: cs) just tend to do similar things and have similar personalities
Which ones
Maybe that’s an element of it, but stanford, for example, gives some majors an intentional boost
Which is very much causation
Idk exactly
source?
former ao
how do they give people an intentional boost
is it quantitative?
Second reader
wdym
like people who are a humanities major get a second reader?
Idk about ‘humanities majors’ but yeah
and you're 100% sure about the information you're telling us
😈😈
like ur absolutely sure that certain majors get a second reader as a boost?
how does that help them?
seems kind of underwhelming
It’s allegedly what legacies get too
okay so like im pretty sure the info ur giving is wrong cuz everyone gets two readers
lmao
i just searched it up
and looking at my friend's admissions files they had 2 readers too
*friends'
Were they admitted?
Not exactly everyone then?
it goes against what you're saying for one
No it doesn’t
yes it does
They were admitted
you said that cs majors and nonlegacies don't get a boost of two readers
if you excuse me imma have to dip
I said they don’t automatically get that. I didn’t say they never do💀
idk
there was someone who said on their profile there was space on their profile for 3 readers
they only got 2 cause they were non legacy
and theorized that legacy got 1 extra
but tbh i've changed my mind
i think everyone gets 2
and edge cases where you're between admit and deny might get 3
nah you get 1 then a second if youre compelling or for other reasons
thats prolly true
actually yea
like if you have 2.0 gpa
your prolly thrown away no matter how holistic they are
lmao 'prolly' im not speculating 💀 it's from a good source
is it a current AO
former
how many years ago
i dont see what that changes
this person is a professional 💀 theyre not blind to changes and work with others
legacys get 3
i can confirm
thats what the alumni association said at least
ive never heard anything about majors giving an extra reader though
the extra reader thing for legacy been known
why does this even matter 😭
knowing you have an extra reader doesn't mean you can make ur app shit
its actually a pretty op boost that should be removed imo
yes
but we can't control
you have 3 shots as opposed to 2
we can't control
thats why its better
if the other guys right
i'm more fucked
i get 1 reader
you get 2
minimum
dw
multiple ppl read it
even that interview u sent said that lol
why trust 1 guy over dozens of sources
its too late anyways
it legit doesn't matter
especially when bro cant clarify on which majors
i just check portal dec 15
yep
its dec 15 right?
thats what we all do
idk
yale is dec 14
one time it was dec 9
and i heard stanford is always day after ivies
dozens?
i mean also primarily anecdotal but still
also a current ao told me multiple people will read over ur app
i know someone who visited here and she said that it was really creepy cause everyone was smiling really widely and there were a bunch of people just speaking different languages and it seemed like she walked into an ad
so either that's good or it's more evidence that stanford isn't real
wait if 1 reader votes to admit and the other votes to reject r u admitted?
generally
readers read
they determine whether to bring you to committee
if 2 hate you and don't want to bring you to committe
but the last one wants to bring you
you get brought to committee
then in commitee its like 4/5 members have to vote yes to admit
thats from yale admissions podcast
i think committee size and exact number needed to vote to admit varies
the committee gets the final vote
if both say yes, then its generally an admit
if both say no, but a third (legacy) says yes, its a committee vote still, not a reject
huhh????
readers have no say on admit i think other than their singular vote in commitee
.-. if both readers give u around a 2+ score
its probably an admit
its on avg 2- i think
really? well then ig 2-
then im guessing 2+ is sometimes admit and sometimes deferred
i don't think thats the problem
you have a group of 2+ and better people
now you balance your school
balance?
ah
men woman
well i mean im betting even 3- legacies and rich people can get in .-.
institutional priorities
yeah lol
rlly?? i thought u got sent to committee regardless
.-. i mean u do.
by the salami corrected it to 2-
is that what yale said
is yale same as stanford?
^ wait this is true
more likely to be brought
yes
they ain't bringing a 2.0 gpa to committe
to instant deny
yale admissions podcast on it
but if the two AOs give you admit u dont have to go?
i think u do
wheres that jerry guy
but 2-, the committee tends to sway towards admit
jerry is 2+
yeah
everyone goes to committee
the fringe people
are argued about
ok thats whar i thought
the obv admits
are made in 2 seconds
amherst video is different from grading
but basically sent to commitee and vote no matter what after eliminating a lot of people
Tbh yeah
amherst
has 13k applicants
yale and stanford have like 60-80k
Also Stanford uses scores
I think
I mean if ur app is shit ur not getting in regardless lol
I’m not sure about council votes
true but they still eliminate down to about 4000
but if you're on the cusp it can really help
main difference yes
Hm
ngl the amherst 💀 video does not make me trust admissions
they literally said: "I go by my gut"
ngl with the diversity (not race but of everything scores gpa people) of stanford, i would not be surprised if theres a lot of gut admissions
at least they gave a rubric for the readers
thats true
amherst goes like: hmmm tragic essay, admit
the AO for my region is new
still possible admittance with a 1 on IV
so i better get a second reader
tru
HOPE
i reread all my other early schools
:D copium
im really banking on that admission
and oh boy are the essays mid
they're only like a 7/10
i reread stanford
they're still a 10/10
ironically my stanford essay is good, but my other eas are actually really good (because i used stanford as practice / earlier deadline)
my other EAs are good
they're not stnaford good
my stanford is art
lmao im the opposite (unfortunately)
my IV essay is high tier but others are only good ;-;
i think all my essays cook
id say i really liked how my IV and roommate turned out
my diversity is just good
salami read it
its not bad
but its not amazing
makes sense
honestly ngl it doesnt
thats the essay i probably shouldve done the best one
ye but i already had to do it two times before
ah i c
The A2C Stanford obsession is real 😭
fax
im banking on that admission
Why is everyone still analyzing their admissions process and their app
.-.
we're coping
cuz this might be the only school i have a shot at
since my grades r taking a downward trend
Work on those rd schools!!
You have Columbia
lmao ik ik
I am so getting on that UC grind today
well if i have a similar grade trend yeah
but im not sure
same here
Well you have targets and safeties
thats true
I have way too much to do
also usc
Yeah
usc early is hard...
Yeah
because of scholarship 💀
i want at least one acceptance in my early ;-; so i won't be ded from stress
Do safeties
I did 2 safeties, 1 target, and 2 reaches early
probably shouldve done umich and unc chapel hill
umich is not a safety ;-;
i mean more shots
I heard ea helps for umich
i did usc and umich
:D my rd is banking on my fly in to pomona
Did you do the virtual or in person?
virtual but counts the same
i got rejected 😭😭
40% acceptance to pomona >:D
cause what else do you do
i swear the lacs hates me
I doubt tbh I only know one person who got rejected (Brandon)
Rd apps…
Live life
Keep your grades up
Work on ecs more
i dont understand
they told us they only see "POP" on the application
Etc
and i k5 others who got rejected
but not pomona virtual
overall 10% acceptance rate apparently ;-;
Oh interesting I got in
But I didn’t do it
oop
Bc my parents would not let me go
no
oh the in person?
So why waste my Saturday and Sunday
No they wouldn’t actually let me go to Pomona
i didnt write an essay so i couldnt explain my grades
oop
Sad life
You should have
I did it 15 minutes after the app deadline
bc u guys told me to apply
Oh interesting
oh yeah i wouldnt have gotten it then
everywhere else u have to be more personality vibes
nonholistic admissions is not my friend
me when caltech... i did not realize i had to write ONLY stem
before fly in applicaiton
i didnt even try
theres no way id get into caltech or mit
which
Yeah I remember
ngl columbia wasnt even really on my radar
it was just the "one other ivy im applying to"
Are you glad you did epc instead of bound
yes
i didnt realize id like the school so much
im honestly grateful for the opportunity
i was kinda hoping for amherst too
😭
Aww that’s glad
You’re too good
I didn’t dw
so it literally couldve just been because of your income
Oh really
Tufts didn’t ask
did it ask if first gen
I thought they did dang
Idr
My race was included for tufts though
they ask but they cant consider it
Ah
Oh I see
yeah
W
i ed i never know if i get in
what is peep
penn
Penn
oh nah
rlly?? i swear u were one of the peep kids
ohhhhh
yes
Yeah but it helps a ton
my friends just afked their computers and played video games
they used to
Real
Really??
my dad went to stanfords fly in yeah
damn must have been a while back
I bet it was super competitive though
^ caltech just 4 years ago was like only 100 admit for fly in
4 years before that it was like 30 💀
stars is like that
they're increasing it next year i heard though
to 50
and then to 80
Ohh
do u mean the summer program by the way?
Wdym
for the fly in
Columbia STARS
now its like 250?
oh i c
Ohhh wow
nvm i keep thinking of stanford summer programs
there's one called Stars: regenerative smth surgery research
oh wait actually the native american one was a summer program, stanford did also actually have a fly in too
they had both
oh nice
yk how they send like
the rural kids
and underserved
to school like during the summer early
to adapt to the environment
yeah they do that for some of their medical summer programs too
its like that
thats cool :O ~~but no longer exists?
that one does
oh nice
sad
Doesn’t uchi still have one
.-. uc hicago is kinda funny :D their scavenger hunt one year had some nuclear thingy detected by cia or fbi
:/ the officer wouldn't tell me if students run scavanger hunts
do u like uchicago
i mean yeah :D
uchicago, stanford, georgia tech, jhu are my fav
Dang those are very different
ik lol
Yeah two students built a nuclear reactor in a dorm
:D stanford's campus is such a W though. some of my summer program friends didn't like it because of size but i love it o7. their research labs OP
only down side is food
Which the hazardous materials agency or whatever didn’t like
LOL its actually so funny though
if u make it to stanford, definitely try "Blend"
its the only good food place there
other than food court thats like starbucks and overpriced 5 dollar protein bars
Or just go to the city
guess my favorite schools
^^^^ this is way better
dang it i was gonna say columbia
I actually dk
Yale?
Dart ?
Obviously Stanford
Hmm oh Penn
dartmouth hmm interesting
very similar vibe to stanford imo
oh thats a W
grade inflation???
I hate the quarter system
It sounds awful
Idk how I’ll deal w the ucs
UCLA is not that bad for grading ;-;
grade deflation
oop
harder than stanford
UC berkeley and caltech is the real grade deflater
princeton and columbia engineering is pretty bad too
i mean how much harder? stanford is basiclaly minimum B for a grade
columbia eng .-. sounds like hell too...
I don’t like the quarter system in general
3.6 gpa to 3.4 gpa
so .2 gpa "harder"
oop...
However 2/3 of my top UCs are on it 😭
same with berk
bioE?
💀 avoid russ altman's class
his lectures are peak
but his class is heavy heavy heavy workload
for bme?
yeah
im prob switch to mat sci tbh
💀 you all are so delulu
Lowkey I haven’t even serioulsy considered getting into Stanford
everywhere im applying with materials science
im switching from bme
to materials science
oop
i mean thats a cool major :D happy to work with u though im not gonna make it to the schools u get into
i hope at least one of us can make it in
even if it's not me i just hope that one of us will
.-. i doubt i will...
assuming im even at the level of regular admission, "While Stanford admits about 25% of its class from the Restrictive Early Action pool, this is much smaller than the percentage at other schools, which is usually about 40%."
15% of that class is like legacy and others
9% are hella cracked isef kids probably
💀that leaves 1% for me
😭
HOLY SHIT
ONLY 25%?
.-. its still a lot
25% is a lot
and for u, legacy is 15%
You’re going to get in Brandon
25% of a small pool of rea
im not gonna say anything
75% = a LOT of people who don't have the false confidence to get in
so technically that 25% is a lot lol
thats true, smaller pool as well
i wonder what princeton's is
"City"
bruh ik a kid who was an immigrant to salutatorian, crazy life story > rejected rea
Palo Alto 😔
Won’t be you
idk bruh its just deadly
It's an hour away by car, ain't nobody got time for that 😭
Well ofc
Not even
It’s like 40 mins w traffic
i wanna go to cali sm
Ong
i love it more than the east
I like where I live but
The rest of California is lowkey mid
but its kinda a blessing i dont live there for college apps
i LOVEEE socal
No city has the right to be this huge and be so mid
bay is epic too
Idk I’m glad I live here
I can go to the Ucs, low competition, decentish education
Best public higher education system in the country 💪
Quite literally
In fact, no - I have horrible allergies here
i am a party person
Ong! My school is 29% proficient in math 🥰
Then again it might be because I live in one of the valleys and dust is everywhere here
I didn’t have them when I visited but north bay murders me
I specified higher education for a reason
You can party in the bay
In HS quality I think we rank 40th 💀
Omg I missed that 😭
ok but the socal ones are just more epic
socal is party central
Real..
CSU, UC, and California CC system tho 😍
Fr!
SoCal's people are really nice, though some are a bit sorta... fake? Somehow, but most are really down to earth and nice
Debatable I’ve heard Berkeley parties hard
But holy shit this city is ass
YEAH
This city is a disservice to its people
i cant apply to berkeley
That’s such a great way to describe California people
Why
oos
My condolences
Oh right no ucs
I passed through Central CA once going from the bay to L.A. and all I can remember is the smell of manure
That’s ok less competition
Davis is literally cow manure
Whenever we go on i5 I’m like 😐
Though Sacramento is a nice place I must say - some of my relatives live there
I don’t like it 😭
i think they meant like for portfolio shit you get an extra person looking over the portfolio right?
nah hes saying like
humanities
as a degree
thats what i thought too
how early do interviews start for stanford?
and do int'l students get interviews? (im from canada)
Thank God Stanford doesn't do interviews for QB kids because it's too early
My heart would fucking stop if I had to do one for Stanford ong
I just wanna sit here for a month and then cry in December (From joy or pain)
why not?
REA yeah, but QB's timeline is two weeks ahead of REA
QBRD gets interviews as usual tho
"Do not match to a binding college" also includes matching to a non-binding college (which at the moment is literally just MIT) so there's the hilarious off-chance that someone gets matched to MIT and gets automatically shuffled into the QBRD round for every other college they ranked
I think Stanford used to be non-binding through QB tho but it seems like they and a whole bunch of other QB (I think Princeton and Yale used to be non-binding too) schools switched to binding
palo alto?
what di you visit it for
Well yes I go to Palo Alto a lot but I was referring to sf
My mom’s company’s hq is in Palo Alto
And I used to go a ton for dance
UC Palo Alto LET ME IN
💀ngl i thought u meant quarterback for a good 6 hours
even better, child of faculty
yes
what if they dont work there anymore
I sent my app about a month ago and haven't heard abt an interview yet, so idkkk
same
I’m debating if I should send Stanford an extra letter of Rec to be considered💀
it takes time off of them reading/examining ur other stuff
yeah. Thank you
I did it because I have interned with the same research prof for 3 years and felt it would be important context to my app. But if you’ve explained all your ECs without the need for a rec letter, or if the recommender is someone who is similar to your other recommenders, then prob don’t
You don’t want the rec letter to be repetitive. If it presents new info though, go for it
Yeah, since it’s a California senator I got in contact to.
^
If you feel like they know you personally and will showcase you in a different way, definitely add it
I had my crew supervisor write a lor for me and I think she really did a great job
Gotcha, thank you
not relaly much benefit then
If it doesn’t add anything then it can only hurt you
If you have not developed a meaningful connection with Padilla then it won’t help much
Ty
So just stick to two EC’s?
The hard part is you can’t really view your letter of recs
So you won’t know what they’ll be saying
I don’t think so
Because it doesn’t specifically say the scholarship deadline is for ea applicants
It says they’re due in Dec so you could submit your Tulane app before then in Dec
my friend did EA tulane REA Stanford
Tulane is private though
Yeah I’d do this
Yea but theres certain merit scholarships you can only get by applying EA
Does Tulane say that? Bc the page sent doesn’t say taht
*that
no but some of their full rides are
I’m sure that your friend did their research
tulane ea and stanford rea is pretty common
Idk I’ve never heard of it
Like together
plus they dont check regardless
?
It’s unethical and risky to apply ea to a school you’re not supposed to though
true
id ask admissions just to make sure though
Yeah fs
im pretty sure tulane is allowed
do you think theyll respond by the ea deadline tho?
i havent contacted ugrad admissions so idk how fast they respond
might wanna work on it just in case
during app season tho?
gl
hopefully u get into stanford so tulane dont matter 🙏
It does not matter either way lol
It will be fine
The only thing I wouldn’t do is double up on restrictive
;-; don't get my hopes up. im already delulu
told u!
i think it depends on if they take ur credit
found out it doesnt matter actually, you can sign up for any class immediately past calc 3 without a placement test or credit
really lmao
do thye just let you fail
