If someone doesn’t think you’re worth it because you did or didn’t get into a school, they don’t deserve your energy or your attention. There are SO. MANY. Factors that go into college admission and it is not all in your control. Sometimes the hardest part is that there was not one more slot and that’s the sucky part of it.

Your teachers, your parents, and (I would dearly hope) your boyfriend all know how hard you worked to get to this moment. You have put in your time, you have done your best, and you have given what you can.

(And if your boyfriend is mad you go to a different school, he can very well make the drive himself or call or keep in touch long distance if he cares that much about spending time with you. I semi-dated a guy that lived in Orlando and we did long distance because we knew we were both working towards our goals and me paying to have a car sit in a garage most of the year was not worth it, so he drove up when he could. Regardless, someone who is mad you’re not where they are because you’re achieving your dreams by getting an education is not worth spending braincells on.)

Applying to summer is no more or less easy. It’s one of the biggest myths we bust. Everyone is evaluated first without that even in consideration and then only after the pools of acceptances are made is the Tetris of scheduling slots done.

You can be the strongest applicant in the world with the best GPA, all the leadership positions possible, all the awards, and still not get in to UF. That just means that’s not the place that’s meant for you. And that’s okay. Cause rejection is redirection.

I got rejected for a summer internship I was a finalist for. I was crushed.

That rejection not only opened up two opportunities to get work experience this summer but also gave me the motivation to work overhauling my resume and application materials so I could apply for fall.

I had a fall internship I interviewed for this summer I was dead set on. I thought I had all of the requirements, I got put in the applicant pool because the recruiter thought I could do it, I was a year ahead of their usual consideration, and I thought I had it on lock. I even had a great interview.

I got rejected.

And that’s okay.

Because that rejection ended up working out in my favor.

My recruiter for that internship had talked to the recruiter for the other main internship I was focused on, and actually the internship I first got all my materials tidied up for.

I find out the recruiter from the internship I had just been rejected for had shared my info with this other recruiter and urged her to jump on getting me. I didn’t even have to do the phone screen because he provided her with all of the notes, and that took a lot of stress off of my plate trying to impress once again.

I end up getting moved ahead to the interview. I’m gobsmacked.

The interview for that position is scheduled back to back with another interview on the same morning, with 30 minutes between them both. I go in with a few nerves, but feeling okay.

The interview begins with one of the managers, he asks me to tell him about myself, and I begin my spiel. The other interviewer ends up joining in midway, so I’m asked to start again. I do, and that was the only question I got asked. Because apparently, I’d answered all of their questions. It turns into 30 minutes of conversation that keep going and Microsoft Teams ends up kicking us out.

I interviewed on a Monday and got my offer on Friday.

If I hadn’t gotten my first two rejections, I would not have met the coolest people ever and worked in a dream job.

Depends on where you live and how many credit hours you have. (I…don’t recommend it if you can help it)

I live off campus, so my decal options for on-campus parking are much more restricted.

Off campus there are garages, but the decals for those can be pricey in and of themselves. I don’t need my car very much, except for once or twice a month, and it makes more sense for me to walk or Lyft to where I need to go. (UF students get 50% off of Lyfts around campus after 6pm!)

Another perk: the fourth floor (if you take the hotel elevators) has a restaurant called the Arredondo Cafe. It has some of the best views on campus and the buffet by the catering department each weekday is about 11 bucks. I love hunkering down there and getting a load of good food while between classes or when I need a break before or after admissions work/events

At the very end I was going between Rollins College for their 3/2 MBA, UCF, FSU, UF, Alabama, and Oklahoma. We don’t even review the summer/fall divvy out until the decisions for acceptance are already made. That list gets made, then they start figuring out from there who goes summer or fall or pathway (pace, gator engineering, etc)
