#Georgia Tech (GATech) (2023-2024)
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
maybe ig
is there too much competitiveness for like CS stuff at gtech
like i dont want my relationships to be toxic
the thing is at purdue ppl are hella toxic
idk why they think they try to be the best at everything and they soooooo private on like stupid stuff like just doing a research project or something
like bruh literally everyone does it u dont have to like be secret abt it
especially if its on ur linkedin bru
idk cus i'm not cs but i wouldn't be surprised if there is
like ngl if i feel someone is toxic i just stop talking to them and talk to other people, your time is too precious to be wasted on those ppl
I don’t think there is
Generally people share “I’m going to Jane street final”
Or “doing research with X lab”
But there’s also over 4000 CS majors
So
It heavily varies
Fratty CS people vs Mathy cs people cs finance cs people etc
they do take your major into consideration
but i wouldnt say they necessarily "admit by major"
at least for first years
they dont say they do but i'm pretty sure they do
that doesnt mean you shouldnt put CS if you want to do CS
id say dont listen to them lol
if your app is tailored to CS and then you dont put CS, it might look a bit sus
and also, first years who want to change major to CS also have to take specific classes before applying to change major, which might slow down your graduation plans
also GT is difficult to get into for any major lol. CS might be harder, sure, but not so much it would make too much of a difference imo
??????
what did his why major essay look like wtf
admissions officers arent stupid 💀
people need to remember that AOs arent just an algorithm looking for stuff but people who actually know how to read and critically think
it should be noted that i am yet to be at tech so i may be mistaken about this 💀
congratulations with you acceptence! Just wondering what did you put for your major and what is your intended major? I applied but just in case i got rejected, I will apply as a transfer student next year
wait what? erm😅 if you don't mind me asking what's your GPA when you apply?
4.0
4.0 UW?
no
auburn
unironically i probably wouldve had a higher chance of getting in if i went to CC, georgia tech loves those
oh i see! Really? I want to go to CC but then there are other better options. I'm thinking about going to KSU then transfer since I remember they have a partnership (but only if they will offer me the transfer pathway)
definitely take the pathway
unless you want to go to CC for financial reasons then oh well
yes but only if they offer me one. I'm a Georgia resident and the state offers everyone scholarships so I don't think I am going to CC
app deadlines are by your time
but dont push it to the very end, ive seen people miss because of internet issues 💀
if ur instate then do CS
and if ur app is ECs with a lot of cs things
they'll see
so in that case apply cs
and apply like today lol
and ur instate right
its easy admission
it's not over
LETS GOOO
fyi my other stuff is really good imo
i dont have an uw gpa so i cant say but ive had one B in all of my transcript
thats good i was j a bit worried
its the last school im applying to for ea
hope i somehow get in
i doubt ill get in
34 ACT but my grades are relatively terrible (no one should have survived my schedule, i somehow did)
not just the hard classes but the combination of all of them in 8 hours
rough but i get what u mean
my ECs are insane though (not the most- ik people who have national awards but istg i killed whatever sanity and mental health i had left in me to do them, my impacts are more localized though but i helped in foreign language programs and band and robots)
thats good
it's a wrap... submitted!
damn what classes?
last year i had physics c + calc bc + first year of ap german (we do two years of it) + lit + essentially college level music + aforementioned ecs
i dont want to sound like im bragging because im not, i struggled in english historically and then physics too, and calc teacher wouldnt round up my grade second sem after she said she would (it was build season)
i feel u im in physics C right now and its HARD
if you took physics 1 before it should be fine cause you have the concepts you just need to apply calc
i didnt, so thats why it sucked
if you did it wont be too bad
mechanics or electromagnetism?
i didnt lmao
my teacher started with E&M but we just started mech like a week ago
mech is actually rly light but E&M is hard IMO
oh i didnt know they were together in ap lol
the class wasnt offered at my HS
typically in college its split into phys 1 and 2
yeah but college does it like semester wise
in high school, theoretically, the first semester should be C Mech, second should be C E&M
e&m is really quite fine if you understand the calculus behind it
and then optics is literally just algebra
nah physics C doesnt use calc for e&m iirc
actually wait i think it does
but we only used algebra
what????????????????????
we didnt
or lenz's law
or ampere's law
what
did you guys only do electrostatics or something?
we did electrostatics, field, induction, etc. in quarter 1 but my teacher explicitly said she'd be teaching off the physics 2 syllabus for the first quarter
since she wants time for people to learn some calc
but now in mechanics we're fully using calc
and when we return to E&M we'll use calc
induction requires calculus too. if only basic calc 1, but it requires you to understand derivatives
unless you guys used delta
instead of differentiating
actually i needs integration too
to calculate magnetic flux
we used delta
my teacher said we're gonna differentiate when we return to e&m
you get what i mean?
ahhh i see
yeah my teacher basically didnt use calculus to teach e&m at first
but i still lowkey bombed first quarter
honestly i disagree with teaching it that way 💀 they should make calculus a prereq for e&m imo
yeah ngl the math is kinda the easiest part but at the same time
it's also a bit easier to separate the concept imo? but the shit in like physics 1 is ridiculous
its easier to understand using calculus than algebraically imo
yeah yeah fair
whenever my teacher was giving delta formulas i rewrote them in terms of derivatives
and yeah im also taking calc 3 rn, so i just did the matrix cross product stuff for vectors instead of A B sin t whenever i could
qvsinB
q v X B
ok im gonna be honest in e&m you should probably just do qvsinB 😂
lol
you use the cross product to find direction
we only have mech in our school
yeah
im taking 2 alg based rn
oh rip
but most of the time you should just use qvsinB for magnitude and use RHR to find direction
yeah yea
its not like id actually be able to do matrix cross product a lot bc they usually only give direction/magnitude anyway
i just cant comprehend learning e&m algebraically thats so wild to me
almost everything we learned was based off calculus
yeah 💀
besides optics 💀
they shouild bring back physics B ngl
how would u take an integral on a vector?
oh wait its vector valued
if E and r happen to be same direction then dot product drops and it just becomes E*dr
she's on some of the ap classroom videos LMAO
I’m late to notice, but in the future try to keep threads related to schools!!!! Feel free to chat about other topics in #1049163030145007708 or #🛩-lounge-chat
applied to the dream 🙏
good luck
applied but no way i get in
we all got a shot
🙏
just realized and sent the transcript
if i forgot that and got rejected i would actually kms
but i submitted it i submitted
oh no
oh fuck
you good
that a question?
yes
if so, absolutely not im one more thing away from death
rip
what transcript
hs transcript
ig ill spam my counselor
if they cant get it its so fucking over imma kms
isnt the document deadline like a week later
no
i mean they'll have a grace period of like 1-2 days atleast
its not even ur fault
man i hope so
i got shafted by so much shit
first osu and psu and amherst requiring official scores
then tech and mich requiring transcripts (which ig was fine but still caused stress)
every app should be like uiuc
ok nvm it looks like its already submitted?
depends on what "initial materials submitted" in naviance means
You’re good I’m pretty sure
Just make sure to contact your counselor to be completely sure
on the application portal it says that the document deadline is november 15, what exactly does that mean
i sent my transcripts a while ago so i hope they already got processed
like transcripts and such
recs?
idk what else
ok so theres that much time for the transcripts and everything to be processed?
im just making sure
well i've already submitted but my counselor hasn't sent it in yet
i see
how bike-able is campus
its very good
is this correct or should the portal be showing number scores
my SAT shows scores
idk if W means like withhold or smth
its weird because my composite is showing
but not my individuals
ill probably just re report it in case
this shall be my motivation, thank you
i wish you luck
I wrote my supp for UW Madison in 5 minutes and got in so who knows
where does it show ACT score?
I took the SAT
but it only shows my AP scores in the self reported scores section
it doens't show my SAT scores anywhere
it should show sat as well
it did for a friend of mine
i self-reported it again and it showed properly
so its prob best to just do that
straight 5s is insane
as im trying to write gatech supplemental
thank you-
the 4 I got on APCSP is not reported AHAHAHAHA
the writing portion
i didnt write as much as i should have
when explaining the app
yea same lol
and its done.
why though
no 5s and i thought they dont use it for consideration
i have mostly 4s
i got 4 on csp as well
my only 4 ever
like i got a 5 on calc bc the same day
damn yall are goated fr
u still get credit for a 4 on csp at gt anyways
Yo bro calm down w all the 5’s holy shit
i got a 4 on mech and they dont accept it 😭
uiuc would accept a ton more of my credits
imo what you should do with APs is: if they give you a credit, report
if you get a 5, report
otherwise, don't need to bother
but again, if they give you a credit, report it lmao
tryna be an engineering major man
Any current GATech students studying comp sci?
doing a deep dive on what professors teach this specific class and ive narrowed it down to 2. I want to name drop one of them in my essay and directly talk about this course and how I'd want to learn it from them I just dont know if they both teach it or maybe one retired and its being passed off to the other
Kinda a general question if I name drop them and they no longer teach the course would that look bad?
yea but like
even engineering majors don't get 5s on physics 1 thats literally the hardest ap test to get a 5 on and the mcq is so hard
i think its partially bc of how BS the "conceptual"ness of Physics 1 can be + ppl taking phys 1 as their first class
Does GaTech accept CC credits
for math
oh wait are there like almost no credit limits at gatech
I can help u find out if they still teach if u want
I did this without knowing on my essay lol but I don’t think it mattered that much
@jolly relic would you recommend talking about a professors research or a class
💀
that you can use the skills with the class to further build you
i already submitted
i talked about specific classes in the threads
so ig i should be fine
i mean do u want to do research? depends on that ig
i talked about a computer vision course and prof but now i changed my threads/interests and wont take it
sysarch on top 🥶
i think same
i said theory and intel but there are 27 possible combinations and it could change and i couldnt say for sure rn
just stick with whatever interests u on ur essay
u can switch threads as many times
just not before major registration periods
yeah i put the classes that the thread offered in theory and intel
i switched from modsim/info -> intel/modsim -> sysarch/modsim lol
i could theoretically do math and do some other threads
but id rather explore the minors tbh
computing and buisness >>>>
i could do like an AE minor lmfao
for no reason but its funny
I would like to do research yeah
Then I would talk about it yea
@jolly relic dms
I found a site that showed their most recent semester teaching but ty
its mostly because the material is simple enough that to cut most people off of a 5 they set the threshold unbelievably high
a 4 is decently easy. i didnt study at all and got a 4 in that exam. 5 is near perfect lol
Lol I’ve seen some first years come with 70 credits
Theory-media 💪
2nd course of linear algebra
That’s my goat
🤮
Ironically since I’m transferrring I might not be able to transfer my lin alg credit 💀 I took honors instead of regular
did u check transfer equivalency
Yes
No
I need to send it in for evaluation
idk if my cc credits will transfer to gt
ohhh
calc 1 and 2 is fine i have a 4 in BC
i have calc 3 and eng 101 102 done though
and no foreign language credit unlike uiuc
@steep quartz ur taking classes here next semester right?
Yes
You won’t know until you actually transfer. Those show the courses taken by students who transferred from that institution at that term. So that means it’s likely nobody who transferred took calc 3
That term specifically
fair
i know for sure uiuc takes my credits, since same states
so it could change things a bit
but yeah if they do accept it then its null and void
Anyone able to proofread my supp in likeeee 30 mins - 1hr?
107 words
then i just transitioned it to talking about a specific OS course i wanted to learn from a prof I name dropped
@hazy lintel you wanna proofread each other?
damn. u doing ea?
lmaooo
lmk when ur done ill prolly be working up til midnight
i just need some set of eyes on what im doing so i dont submit blindly
I would offer but I am so shit at telling whether other peoples essays are good or not
Most I can do is check for grammar lol
And at that point just get chatgpt to do it
is there any reason to say no to this?
In the event I am not accepted for admission to the Georgia Institute of Technology, I consent to have my contact information ( name, email address, phone number, mailing address, etc.), academic interests (intended degree, intended major, etc.), and academic data (SAT/ACT results, GPA, etc.) shared with other colleges and universities within the University System of Georgia that may match my academic profile. I understand that this is a completely voluntary choice, and my response will not affect my application for admission to the Georgia Institute of Technology. *
nah not really its just your choice
i said yes cause its esentially a free application to UGA
oh hype tysm
nw ty
i thought it was like "you will never be able to apply to uga again"
i was so wrong though
hype
Not sure but I did use “Tech” abbreviation a few times
just do GTech or georgia tech
update from a few days ago
my SAT scores showed up on the portal with my AP scores after I self reported on the portal again
even though I already self reported on the Common App (it previously did not show up)
can i self report APs on gt app
yes
should i (if they meet the requirements for credit)
yea
ok
ooo I'll do that too then
so technically they only accept a 5 for phys c mech but 4s can test out
should i put it
I got a 4 on Bio and didn't report it on Common App lol
probably not???
idk it depends on you
I omitted everything but 5s
a 4 is still pretty good
general rule is to report 4s and above
if they give you something (even through a test) I’d still report it
yea if they give you credit
you can?
where
you got your portal yet?
yeah
got it
@stuck leaf rip
imo if you get credit, PUT IT
this fixed itself today so now i just have my act listed twice 💀
yea my SAT scores are showing now
noooooooooo
🥺
did any 11/1 people get their portals yet
usually takes up to a week or multiple to get portals
oh wow i got it yesterday too, tysm! i'm dumb
do we have to send transcripts for community college courses that dont appear on our hs transcript?
if you have taken classes that are not on your hs transcript then yes
im not too sure how you would go about that as a first year applicant though
what are admissions like? is it a lottery like ivys, or if you have 36 act, 4.0UW, and a good CS spike in ur app they will let you in? also how hard are their oos scholarships to get?
they're holistic
I applied EA, its one of my top choices behind MIT, stanford, and UT Austin turing scholars
do they deny kids like that a lot or nah?
wdym
Am i doomed if I referred to them as GA-Tech on my essay 💀😭
like are you pretty much set if you have those stats and a good CS spike & essay? or could they deny you cuz they don't think youd be a "good fit"
cuz i know ivys will do that a lot, they want more diversity, is that less common at a school like georgia tech
nobody here knows tbh
we’re unable to tell you if you’re guaranteed to get in or not
fair enough yeah most people here are applying themselves
I got rejected first year around even though I had really high stats and imo a pretty good app overall (even chanceme thought I for sure would get in lol). Can't really say, but I'm pretty sure my essays were the reason I was rejected. you need a strong app across the board
oos scholarships are very difficult to get if youre middle class or higher
if youre low income you have a decent chance
rip
yeah i feel like my app is solid, you never know what will happen but i feel like i have a good shot of getting in
i think my essay is solid too, nothing life changing and no trauma or crazy symbolism, but it talks about my minecraft server journey, how i got into coding because of that, and a challenge i faced along the way / what i learned from it
essays aren't my strong point but its half decent (i hope)
the essays that got me in were just honest about what i liked and what i wanted to do
nothing crazy
what schools did you end up getting into?
first year, purdue and UWM, but i ended up going to auburn because its instate. I'm transferring into GT spring semester
ah nice, what were your stats?
i cant recall my UW as we would have to calculate that ourselves, but it was a 4.765 weighted. 1570 SAT
college stats is 4.0 UW
what ECs did you do?
hold on let me just send you my chanceme lol
thanks, yeah ur stats are pretty good, main difference between you and me is ECs, i did a lot of CS related stuff such as an internship, CS club president, math club president (unrelated kinda), Minecraft server, and won a hackathon for the minecraft server. i did some other stuff such as tennis and quizbowl too but i think the cs stuff will help me the most
just goes to show you never know what will happen even if stats are near perfect, hoping i can get in and they like my essay lol
please don’t send chancemes here
i thought the chanceme rule was specifically not asking somebody to chance you?
but ok lol
its not like i was the one asking, i already got in 😅
The point of the chanceme rule is that chancemes lead to speculation about whether or not students will get into schools, which nobody here is qualified to give feedback on. Even though you already got into schools, it still opens up the discussion to conversations that aren’t allowed
no worries tho!!! you aren’t in trouble
ok yeah got it, its no prob. will remember in the future 🫡
this gotta be the worst word of all time
felt
holistic 😂 😂 🎊
does gt admit by major
no*
well...
they dont "admit by major"
but they take it into consideration
its sort of the entire point of the supplemental
"When you apply to Georgia Tech as a first-year applicant, you do not apply to a specific major or college. However, on your Common Application, you can select a primary and secondary choice major. We ask you to do that because consideration of your major is an important part of our application review process, as we seek to ensure an academically diverse first-year class."
take that how you will
yea
hm okay thank you
they still admit by "major"
so if u say
apply for like busienss
but wanna do cs
they will know
and they wont admit u
so for example computer science is more likely to be more competitive then something like communications
yeah
exactly what i just said
they're not stupid to let everyone in like that
and btw gtech admission anyways is tought at 13% OOS
how will they know??
and this
OOS admission is tough for all majors
its a tough school generally to get in
its not like UIUC where overall admission rate is 45%
is there distinctions between colleges? ie: college of design and college of engineering?
CE is technically under college of computing right?
i probably shoula selected EE as my second choice cause both of my choices are under computing rn
No CE is in College of Engineering
alr
14.8 Sure, no problem
ugh why are the compsci kids trying to get in EE now
wait wow GT is at a 16% acceptance rate
my admissions this year is going to be screwed
everyone thinks that CS is too hard to get into smh my head
talking like this as a 28er is crazy
its the same difficulty
like ngl
look at the acceptance rate chart
now that i think about it
engineering has a harder cut off
if u wanna do cs apply cs
what do you think is a harder major to graduate from
*for GPA
EE or cs
difficulty
100% EE
wayy more difficult
thats why people who wanna do software just do CS
EE and CS are completely different realms
it's an observation
non 28ers wouldn't care
i still want to dabble in hardware
i think devices does that?
but idk my threads choices yet obv
obv if i were to invent something it would involve some device so i want to atleast know how it works
honestly it depends
because CS at GT have threads where they have different curriculums
some threads are "harder" than others
it also depends on the student
for example i really like math so theory is not that bad but others think theory sucks and would rather do like sysarch which i really hate
just do CE ngl
i like how berk just has a EECS major and then u choose whether to specialize in ECE or CSE
EE > CE
i feel like CE is the happy middle ground
CE covers though?
I'll say i was required to take an EE class and it wasnt too hard. I wouldnt know about the higher level EE classes though
rf is an EE field
facts
but EE too hard
and CS the easy way to get 200k+ starting
is gtech easier to get into for business
i want to study business anyway but
do they place well
ik they're prestigous for stem just wondering what about biz
wtf
yea
bro thats harder than most t20 schools its not that easy
They’re being sarcastic lol
im joking 😭 😭
15% is hard asf
Also I’m pretty sure every T20 (in USN) has a lower acceptance rate than 15%
i dont believe so
notre dame
Sysarch on top 🥶
Engineering and CS majors at like 12-13%
is it even worth applying to their college of design w a 1350 SAT and a 3.6 UW lmfao
You might as well try
should i go test optional?
Probably….? If you are low income or have some other reason that you can specify then ig. I don’t actually know how they see test optionals
If you write a mean supplemental then I think you get in either way. I think what got me in were my essays
hm is there anyway i could see their SAT stats for a certain college
what were ur stats
4.0 UW and 1570 sat but it should also be noted I was rejected first year. The only big difference were my essays
thanks 🫡🫡
not that different when you remove in state for both
we dont get stats for OOS rates but im assuming its like 6% 💀
just double major in math (the one thing allowed in computing)
my transfer credits got fucked so im not taking more classes than i need lmao
i dont wanna graduate in 6 years
fair enough
how do i know if my georgia tech portal is complete?
If everything has a check next to it
i thought u cant go test optional for gt cus of usg policy
(unless they changed it idk)
oh fr?
Yes
W
34 act gonna come in clutch fr
frfr
i only have act/sat scores & transcript under the checklist items. is that right?
yes, thats right
ok thank u. my friend got an email saying his app was "complete" but i havent gotten one yet. is it cuz i havent recieved my GT acc for financial aid and stuff?
Hey do you guys know whether a misselection of major can be rectified?
I had to apply for Mechanical Engineering to GAtech
And I wrote my essay for mech eng
Even referred to a prof there and the school of mech eng
But I was applying for electrical eng to other unis so I selected electrical eng on common app by mistake
Do you guys think I can get it rectified?
I emailed the undergraduate office already
no need to stress, if you emailed i think they will rectify
in any case, you should get a response soon! ❤️ best of luck, i'm also a mech eng applicant
hoping the same ❤️ ty
@raw rose they said no 💀
im screwed
my essay literally says I wanna do mechanical engineering
wtf
💀💀💀
I'm withdrawing my application
Cuz this is just useless
why would you withdraw...
if you keep in the application you will have infinitely times more chance than if you withdrew
no harm leaving it in there
I remember submitting the wrong recommendation letter to my GT application and I ended up sending the admissions office an email and was able to fix it, so although I'm not sure if you'll be able to change your major I think they'll prob be pretty flexible with things
Oh wait oof I read the later comments, that's unfortunate
But yeah def don't withdraw lol
yeah it doesn't
Yeah ur fine
Also it looks like they updated the admissions portal and stuff, it looks nicer than before
But honestly imo Tech should update its entire website, it looks kind of shit and there are like 10000 empty links
gtech literally has an army of advanced cs majors
idk why they don't use them at all
ui ux takes more than coding skilss
You actually need artistic talent for uiux
I can’t wait to apply to gtech
Sending in my application Friday
not only that
theres psych or smth involved to
get your users hooked into the site
That’s a different category tbh
through colors or smth
Yeah psychological aspect
why didnt u apply ea1????
Becuz it was DOOKIE
ea1 gang get ready 😭
when is ea2?
january ish i think
still tbd...
its mostly for finaid i thnk
you need it to login to gt's finaid system
if you get in its probably going to be your login for everything else
when does ea2 come out
End of January
IN STATE BENEFITS GOESSS CRAZZYYY
DECEMBER 8 OH GOD
ahhh
Your Application is Complete!
i submitted 11/1, why is this here today 😭
it's just to confirm all your materials got submitted - they sent me that too for ea1 after a few weeks
This school is pretty good
what a news!

this is facts
Man imagine going to Georgia tech cs that can’t be nationally ranked or something
But the amount of unshowering ppl in that building is insane probs
one of my cs class stinks
not yet sadly :// did you apply EA?
fafsa will open december due to major changes
I got an email about financial aid but it didn’t say anything about it being required, just a reminder to start in December
OOS if that helps ^
i think you just wait
i got that email soon after i applied too
nothing you can really do abt it tbh
If there 🤭 are ten 🔟 colleges 🤓 I’m applying 🍎 to, 👆one of them is GT 🐝
If there 🤷♂️ is one 1️⃣ college 📚 I’m applying 😩 to, it’s GT 🐝
If there 😭 are no 🙅♂️ colleges 📖 I’m 👦 applying 😥 to, I’m dead 😵
Please let me in 🙏
this is a new level of downbadness
GT is that grey area between being a public school and private prestige (and simps)
if there are 10 people applying to gtech, i am one of them
if there is 1 person applying to tech, that one person is me
if there is no one applying to tech, i am dead
UGH IK it’s such a good school I just wish the acceptance rate was higher 💔
On the plus side though GT has a low yield so I mean I could always be waitlisted and have a good chance because GT is my first choice school 😙
GT should have ED fr
YES
I think it’s a public thing right??? I don’t know any public university that does ED…
manifesting works fr 🙏
xook
I’m starring this lmfao
STINGEM 🐝
*The MOMENT I walked on campus, my dad had to close my jaw. My elated engineer self could not believe what I saw.
“Deodorant prohibited!” The sign read. Were my eyes playing tricks? I had to find out for myself. I walked into the library. The library was as silent as a mouse. But it was also as stinky as a rat. Thousands of sweaty engineers, with headphones on their cranium, studied incredulously and meticulously. The stench emitted brought tears to my eyes, from both emotion and the destruction of my scent receptors.
Could this really be the place for me? A sweaty engineer? I thought. I still had doubts. I had one more test to see if Georgia Tech was right for me.
Bobby Dodd stadium. Home of the Yellow Jackets. I marched my aching feet inside and purchased a ticket: UGA versus Georgia Tech. I found my seat, and what I saw next made me almost vomit.
Georgia Tech… was… winning?! In… sportsball! I was revolted. Clearly this place was not right for me…*
Beautiful
should i make this bet
If GT wins against UGA this year i will commit to GT if im accepted
two things with horrible odds
makes it even funnier
this is also risky af, if they somehow win and i somehow get accepted ill be giving up UIUC instate tuition and potentially CMU
(none of this will probably happen im delusional af)
If GT wins against UGA this year I will commit to GT if I’m accepted
When do GT decisions come out for OOS?
tbd
Late January is usually the time... I think it’s around the 17-20th???
They’ll announce it on @gtadmissions or something like that
Oh ok
TO HELL, TO HELL, TO HELL WITH georgia
THE CESSPOOL OF THE SOUTH
TO HELL WITH GEORGIA
i can get behind this
This is cringe
11-0
But knowing gtech they are somehow gonna pull off a 90 yard pick 6
doubt it 💀
gtech stands no chance unfortunately
could be 100% wrong but they are facing the #1 college football team
I mean I don’t stand a chance of acceptance but we can all believe our delusions
ok like
my prediction is u(sic)ga 38 - 17 GT
but let's see if Tech can pull a Miami again
That’s honestly a really good prediction
i dont even believe but ur right
i think its gonna be like 40-10 prob
UP WITH THE WHITE AND GOLD
DOWN WITH THE RED AND BLACK
TO HELL WITH GEORGIA‼️‼️
pretty nice
honestly quite chill rn with thanksgiving break lol
Nice!
The academics are self-explanatory, but how is the student life? (Dorms, food, facilities, clubs)
And you don’t have to type a whole essay for my question 😭
dorm - not the best but decently livable, there are two general areas:
- east = louder, closer to frats, next to stadium, better dining halls
- west = quieter, closer to crc, near some nice restaurants off campus
food - also not the best but imo not as bad as people say
facilities - generally nice, i like the crc, though i have to say i haven't used other facilities much
clubs - very good variety though i plan to get more involved in the future
Omg that’s so awesome to hear!!!
My only worry abt this school was the student life but the buildings look really nice!
And if I went I honestly don’t know where I’d live bc I like frat life and socialization but I also would want to be near the gym and medical center because of reasons
Food is terrible I’ve been there before
Which hall were u at
LETS GO JACKETS
GEORGIA TECH RECOVERY
‼️ ‼️ ‼️ ‼️ ‼️
TOUCHDOWN LETS GOO
THE ONLY LEAD WE'LL HAVE BUT IDC
Excuse me what
What is going on lol
gatech recieved had to punt
No like
uga got it and it fumbled -> gatech touchdown
How
gatech's mustiness is disorienting georgia's players
thats how
nvm no interception so sad
georgia got the td
14-13 uga
Pretty good
GTs gonna lose but its gonna be closer than i expected
1 score game either georgia pulls a miami or GT intercepts
yeah GT took the L
womp womp
still wasnt the 50-10 blowout i was expecting
Guys we beat the spread by two touchdowns against the #1 ranked team
I'm proud of them
- u(sic)ga is def losing the #1 spot to Mich tomorrow
is the gtech discord open for prospectives
i only just realized gatech is test required and i barely studied for the december sat LMAO, is it still worth applying with a 1410 (at the very best, i'll get a 1450 or something in december)
and my split is 720 reading 690 math so not good 💀
good luck!
thank you!!
you can self report tests until jan i think
yep
the wind chill in ATL is 20 tomorrow??
i did NOT apply to GT just to get the same weather here
I have not gotten that
Maybe it depends on when u submitted?
Or if ur EA 1 or 2 idk
FAFSA opens up Dec 1 so I think ur gucci???
Wait
It says u have a “finaid file”
What’s that?
I got that one a while ago
It was confusing but I did it👍
I logged in to the Oscar and there was a Georgia tech financial aid application
I did the GA tech application
If you click it it should open
Yes
Yeah I think so because it hasn’t opened yet
Yeeep
When is it all due?
All applicants get this
would it be a good idea to apply for GaTech mathematics instead of CS (OOS)?
and then i can just transfer into CS pretty easily?
you have to be in math first year
as in you cant change your major for first year
i think ik you have good stats so you could just apply cs anyways
i advise anyone applying to just apply to first choice major instead of trying to game the system
but if you are actually interested/have shown interest in whichever other major you try for, then maybe it could be better? idk
How does it feel to live my dream
i had to make the same choice too
ended up doing cornell rd (impossible) instead of cornell ed because i wanted to go to GT/UIUC
idk i feel like im regretting that
or atleast im double minded
Nah
You’ll be fine
Also public schools have constantly proven better than private schools
More social life and student opportunities, cheaper tuition, better research funding…
You do get a free major switch when you confirm ur major after ur admission deposit… but I wouldn’t bank on that.
i would love GT to be my state school 😭
im out here with UA and auburn as my state schools
UIUC
oh well at least im at GT now 🙂
in some cases UIUC is much better than GT namely cost
but idk
i like GT so much better for no apparent reason
UIUC’s campus is nice too
Nice
Yeahhh
Whatcha taking next sem
they didnt give me 1331 so im locked out of almost all the higher cs classes 😭
even tho i already have 1332
and 2050
im prob gonna take 2nd lin alg course, prob and stats, applied combinatorics, 1331, and maybe a humanities like japanese or something
tho i will ask for a prereq override and see if i can take like 2340 and stuff instead, which will replace one of the math classes
is it cs1331
yes
idk how ill get c mech credit
for some reason auburn just doesnt have a cs 1331 equivalent which is a prereq to almost fkin everything
cause i only have a 4
Wtf
Can’t u test out of it?
You’ll be offered a chance to test out later in like August
I’m not the strongest in Java specifics. I mostly code in either python or c++
Also idk how it would work because tests are first week of class so if I’m not already registered for classes I might be screwed?
Ah
Registration and dropping without a W ends Friday of the first week
If you pass 1331 ASE you’ll probably miss 1-2 lectures of whatever ur trying to get
ah i see
If ur doing info, 4400 only has 1301 as a pre req. Also many of the people courses don’t have any prereqs
im theory media lol
4400 sounds so dry tho
besides the math classes, most courses need 1331 as prereq
except like
algorithms
which i might get from transfer credit, they havent finished evaluating yet
Oh damn
even then technically algorithms requires 1332 which requires 1331
but luckily i have 1332 already
so lol
or was it 2050?
either way i have the prereq
If ur talking about 3510, it requires 1332, combo (3012), and discrete (2050)
wait it requires combo
I’m gonna hold off on that class lmao
:|
Yeah
well i have 1332 and 2050
Wait nvm I think I’m wrong
The prereq for 3510 is 2050 and (1332 or 3012)
Yeah I read it wrong
Do you know when they finish evaluating
should be later this month, they said 2-4 weeks and its been 3
so maybe next week
like look at all of this in media locked behind 1331 😭
the only ones i have are 1332 and 2050
ok this is def concerning for me applying 😭
im assuming intel is the most popular right
theory and intel
By far yea
3600 moment
No theory is not popular at all
Info
lmao
ngl i might want to do intel devices and like a robotics minor or smth
that gonna be difficult though
It’s tough to do robotics minor as CS because it has ECE pre reqs
But yea info Intel is most popular by far
should devices help out a bit?
I’m kinda just coping and hoping they make cybersecurity the 3rd coc major
I think second most popular is prob people
Or maybe sysarch? Ik a decent amount of people who do sysarch
Oh I forgot about info
Yea there is some overlap
Yeah def info lol
There’s a lot of sysarch info tho
ig what would be most similar to statscs is intel and theory but idk if ill do that
It would be Intel + ModSim + math minor
actually yeah nvm
??
I know multiple ppl who changed to another major after first sem
You only can’t do that as a transfer
said it in the portal so idk
Oh rlly, that's interesting
Oh after first semester then you need a set amount of creds before you transfer (at least into CS)
And you need to have taken intro comp
I think
It’s been awhile since I looked tho so don’t quote me on this
I swear to God
As an intl kid I have to say that some instate kids at Tech legit don't understand how much privilege they have
Going to Cornell over GT eng for free is some top level delulu right there
I am fr going into so much debt
I’m just hoping for the return investment to be bonkers
Meh not rlly unless ur in state for gt
im not but then it falls to uiuc
Yea UIUC is probably the most common top school ppl at gt turn down
equally as good as gt but im instate
zell clutching up
Ik a lot of people who don’t like the Cornell environment and location and would prefer GT
and im doing rd but idk
me included lol
if i dont get in GT id def regret not doing ED cornell
unless i get like cmu type which aint happening
id be very happy going to uiuc, but its def not a #1 dream
Man how is it 40 degrees out here in the south I’m in my shorts walking this is so painful
Celsius
ye
ok thank god
I actually EDed Corn and got rejected lol
I feel that for oos/intl I would put Corn and GT eng on about the same level (GT eng is better but Corn has slightly more prestige)
But like if you're an instate student the choice is so clear lmaooo
idk i prob would have regretted ED to corn but i also regret that i have like no shot rd
40% acceptance + way lower tuition + Zell Miller scholarship thing is so insane
not instate, but am for a school thats roughly equal to GT
ig if i cook up some fire essays i got a shot
hmm lemme guess
Cal? Mich? Illinois?
damn that's insane
ahh i see
i would say unless you get some insane scholarship or have a very strong reason to not go to illinois realistically it's probably the best choice
fair enough
that in-state diff too op 😂
only 10k /yr
its lesser
IL got a really high instate tuition
difference between Uiuc and GT oos
i mean essentially its free cause of hope
