What I hate the most is Urbana-Champaign are very student-centric, there’s not much to do compared to if you went to school in Chicago, but there’s also a lot of stuff to do still, it’s mostly university ran though

Academics are very solid here, there’s a big variety of people so you’ll be able to find groups of friends with similar interests

I know drinking culture is huge but I found friends who don’t drink and party, and friends who also do drink and party so you’ll be able to find your people

So we will have our own college of computer science

In general if you were to do double major or change majors in UIUC:

1. CS engineering is closed to internal transfer. That means no petition request to double major or major change

2. CS+X, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering are competitive to transfer into (except majors in the same departments are straight forward [ex) Stat & CS -> Math &CS, Electrical Engineering -> Computer Engineering etc]

3. If you are outside of grainger, you have to get into engineering undeclare first and then apply for the major. It is a two step process.

In terms of housing and course registration, no. Housing is all the same as long as you sign up before the priority registration deadline and all freshmen register for their courses on campus at the same time with your advisor (so you won't even get to take advantage of priority registration from James Scholar, for example). I don't know of any other benefits you'd get, but I imagine it would be easier to apply for scholarships and such if you commit earlier
