its optional
you can apply in freshmen year if you didnt get in directly
but its like 3 extra essays
lol
no
Entire reason why I am doing Computer Engineering with Physics minor. I want to mainly dive into AI chipset or algorithms ( Compe requirements with 3 advanced computing electives: ECE 448, CS 444, CS 446, CS/ECE 374, ECE 408) but I also want to learn more about quantum computing, hence pairing up with Physics minor (+Phys 370 Phys 486).

@vapid veldt for EE, you can take a look at this if you are into quantum computing:
https://ece.illinois.edu/academics/ugrad/subdisciplines/quantum
they dont, i emailed them and said they don't take supplemental materials
at uiuc, are there specific list of courses we have to take for graduation requirements? and how does the General Education Requirement look like here?
EE majors do have to know programming as well. Classes like ECE 220 (Computer Systems Programming: LC-3 Assembly, C, C++) and ECE 385 ( Digital Systems Laboratory: SystemVerilog) is required for your degree
But other than that I think should be fine
For Computer Engineering definitely need to know how to program since classes like CS 173, 225, 374, ECE 391 are core required class.
- with 3 advanced computing electives
You can head here: https://courses.illinois.edu/
and click Gen Ed requirements.
You can also keep track of your gened via your degree audit:
okay, are students free to take any other courses they want? for example are there courses year 1 students can't take?
and does the Gen Eds count towards GPA?
You have to look at the prerequisite chain of the course you wish to take. For instance, if you do not have credit in CS 173 or CS 128/ECE 220, registration system blocks CS 225. Some of the 300 level classes restricts first time freshman from registration.
Yes. It counts for your overall GPA. It does not count for your technical GPA tho
Yeah I’m good with learning the basics but I can’t imagine that being all I do haha
take a look at this! Rough sample sequence for your degree
is it normal for students at uiuc to exceed the total hours listed there?
Yeaaa people do take extra classes
I think it was last year or two, grainger did imposed a strict regulation where you were forced to graduate once all the requirements for your degree are met, but such regulation was quickly removed
I just realized, is the difference between CS + X at LAS and CS only at Grainger is the elective? I saw at the sample sequence that there are language other than english class whereas the pure CS has physics mechanics instead
thats stupid what
glad they removed it
or technically I could replace that language other than english class at CS + X to take other classes I want as long as I am fulfilling my gen ed requirement?
and how many hours is required? I want to do the least possible hours of gen eds 🤔
You can take double dip classes. Check out MUS 132:
Humanities - Lit & Arts
Cultural Studies - US Minority
it is one course but satisfies multiple Gen-ed requirements.
so out of the geneds : the humanities and arts, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and technology, quantitative reasoning, composition/writing, and cultural studies, I just have to take one course per category my entire 4 years there to fulfill it?
There are so many 8 week online geneds as well you can just take
Nope. You have to take courses that satisfies those categories.
sorry, I meant one course per category
Oh yeaaaa as long as it fulfills the requirement for your degree audit
Also Imma amend what I said, it is actually by credit hrs or number of courses depending on Gened requirement sections
But say you took MUS 132
it fulfills 3 credit hrs for both:
Humanities - Lit & Arts
Cultural Studies - US Minority
but you only took one 3 credit hrs class
oh okay, but how many hours of geneds should we do? because I look at my major's CS + X sampe sequence and I don't like that I will be studying half gen eds and half my CS + X, I want my CS and my X to be more
are these geneds courses like MUS 132 curved?
I've heard some people say that SystemVerilog isn't a programming language.
It's a contentious debate lol.
EEs don't need to be as good at coding compared to CS and CompE people.
However, it's still a very useful tool that EEs use on the job.
alr ty
yo that's hella fire
just curious, what do you think is the coolest comp e class that you will take / have taken?
Taking it next semester, I am looking forward to take ECE 391: https://wiki.illinois.edu/wiki/display/HKNDEN/ECE+391+-+Computer+Systems+Engineering
You are making your own operating system 🤩
But it is also the hardest compe class so I need to prepare
Currently I am taking CS/ECE 374, Algorithms and Models of Computation
Which basically is a class that covers algorithms like greedy, divide and conquer, dynamic programming etc. We also look into models of computation like push down automata, Definite/Non definite automatas and regular languages
later it will cover NP-completeness 🥲
i don't think so?
what I mean is
the Cs+x majors right
they are able to be switched into
I was wondering if I could try and switch my major in Arts and Sciences to the Cs+x major in the Arts and Sceinces
no you cannot before accepting
you must meet the requirements listed on the website and submit an internal transfer application
transferring into cs + x is popular since u can't declare pure cs, u def need to meet the reqs
which is basically harder than if u applied cs+x in the first place
wait so should cs kids take ECE 391 as opposed to CS 423?
CS majors also require some sort of computing systems course such as CS 341, but they can fulfill the requirement with ECE 391. Some CS majors who wish to go in depth with low level programming decides to take ECE 391
You have to meet the requirements to be eligible for major transfer
@stable anchor just for curiosity, what is the hardest EE class you have taken?
Cannot imagine EE's life after 210 ☠️
how easy is transferring from ee to compe
Since ee and ce are in the same department, switching from ee to ce is straightforward. You have to satisfy junior eligibility rule (completion of all 100lv and 200lv ECE CS Math Physics courses required for Compe) then u can request for transfer.
For Electrical Engineering → Computer Engineering
If you are a current Electrical Engineering major interested in changing to the Computer Engineering major you may submit a major-change request once the following requirements have been satisfied:
For a fall 2023 major change these requirements need to be complete (i.e. earned credit/grades which are posted to your degree audit) by the end of the spring 2023 semester.
Composition I (RHET 105, or equivalent)
MATH 220 or 221, 231, 241, 285, 257 (or 416);**
PHYS 211, 212, 213, 214;
ECE 110, 120, 210, 220;
CS 173 (or MATH 213), CS 225
For those who are interested in switching majors (to engineering or CS+xs or between ,etc) check this website out:
https://advising.grainger.illinois.edu/degree-programs/changing-majors
<Brief Overview>
* If you entered as a first-year student you may submit a major-change request during your second - fifth semester.
*Requests for a second transfer are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and will only be considered for majors that are not high in demand and for which there is a clearly demonstrated interest and reasonable time to graduation.
*All courses listed in the Requirements by Major section for your major(s) of interest must be completed by the end of the semester in which you are submitting the major-change petition.
*Students may select 1-3 majors of interest on the application and will be reviewed for their major selections in the order they are ranked (second and third choice selections will only be reviewed if you cannot be accommodated in your first choice and if you provide evidence of interest).
*Majors that are high in demand may only be selected as first choice. Currently, these majors include COMPE, CS + Xs, EE, and ME.
*If admitted to any of your selected majors you will be automatically enrolled in your new major. Only apply to majors in which you are interested in transferring.
So if I’m thinking abt transferring would it be better to hold on to chem? Or still take it
it's easy
just meet the course reqs with a decent gpa
take over the summer at CC if you can
however, if you are certain that you want to transfer to compE dont take it
Wait u can take class over summer before freshman yr?
not at UIUC
you can at other colleges though
i have many friends who did calc or chem at a community college over the summer before attending UIUC
just make sure the credit transfers by using transferology.com
I would enjoy ur last sweet summer break after high school 🥲
how easy would it be to transfer out of materials sc and eng major into cs + x at uiuc?
and so it begins
adding into this, if you decide to take chem and you switch to CompE, it will count for 4 tech elective hours for CompE
so you still get something out of it
Depends. Grainger CS+s are closed. Popular CS+s like math stats and econ have higher expectations and competitiveness. Other CS+s just have to meet the requirements with decent gpa.
i see
so when do you like change your major?
would i have to take materials science classes first year?
So I could take classes at a local cc before college?
How is the engineering undeclared program? Do people often get their 1st choices of majors?
As long as they do well in their classes
yes if you want
“Students who earn at least a 3.0 UIUC GPA and a 3.0 specialized GPA while fulfilling the above requirements are pre-approved to enroll into one of their three majors of interest. While we try to place each student in their first-choice major of interest, it is not guaranteed.” https://grainger.illinois.edu/academics/undergraduate/engineering-undeclared
Under FAQs “will grades i earn influence the choices i have for major?”
im in 210 rn lol
can you get approved for dual degree across two colleges at UIUC in the first year?
Same!!!!!!
@stable anchor cannot wait for wednesday's exam 🥲
good luck
hopefully it will be alright
so far this class hasn't been too bad
I think after ECE 211 section is done 210 materials will get exponentially harder
i heard it gets really hard starting from chapter 6
alr thanks I might consider calc 3 or chem lmao
!UIUC
hi! sorry if this is an overdone question but are there any uiuc cs (particularly +ling) students/grads who can comment the difficulty of getting jobs in tech, esp in the past couple years?
idk i think i've been a bit too immersed in the doom and gloom on reddit so i was wondering if i could get some other perspectives from here
yo i also got 2 acceptance packages lol @summer cobalt
i think one is the specific college tho and one is uiuc as a whole
mine were the exact same lol
both were grainger engineering
well rip 💀
You guys got acceptance packages from UIUC?
think only those in the us did
i had the same question while applying for cs + music and i learned that apparently companies don't really care that you are cs + x and not plain cs, on the other hand they might even be more interested in you because you have a specialisation in another field
only got the sticker and journal as of now
are you international
is it just me or like when I sent in a recent award I received they said they can’t accept it bc they don’t accept any new things after the app is submitted
CS + X majors gets the same benefit as CS major does. Most employers report that they do not find difference between CS program and CS + X programs.
Moreover, unique programs like city scholars (Chicago Internships) and cooperate connections (CS/ECE career fair) which are exclusive to CS/ECE departments, CS + Xs are equally eligible to be part of those events.
the main difference is that CS+X doesnt get access to 5-yr bs/ms
oos
How prestigious is James Scholar?
Not really prestigious imo. You get it if you have 3.5 and above GPA. Only benefit I see is early registration for courses.
How about for incoming freshman?
ooo uiuc sends nice stickers
Maintain a minimum UIUC GPA of 3.50
Complete at least one fall or spring semester of fulltime UIUC coursework
Are no less than three semesters from graduation
Apply within the first 10 days of classes in the fall or spring semester in the James Scholar Portal. (Please be encouraged to apply in Fall 2024 from 8:00 am CDT August 26, 2024 through 5:00 pm CDT September 9, 2024).
You will need a UIUC GPA, so incoming first freshman are not eligible
yeah i hear abt how cs and cs+x aren’t really distinguished by recruiters, but is it open information for how many applications it takes people until they offers?
which employers do report they find a difference 😵💫
It seems incoming freshman can also qualify, just got email said was selected for James Scholar
is it feasible to still do masters at uiuc in person for cs if you do cs + math? Like i'm pretty deadset on doing my masters....
But not sure how selective…
you should probably apply to a different school for masters
i mean
you could beg the department
the issue is that 4+1 is streamlined in that you can take grad courses as an undergrad and it will transfer
yeah that's the thing
iirc
so like could I be in math + cs
and do the same thing?
😵💫
hmm i'll probably email them and beg
nvm they're both the exact same💀💀💀💀
!UIUC
Do people get emails or sm?
When do we know
Why not
I can answer a bit, I'm CS + stats with a minor in ling. I think you are basically treated as another CS major so as long as you put the effort in it should be the same
if i got deferred, does it mean that I was borderline and atleast meet their requirements?
also, how likely is an acceptance after deferral (ee)
Did anyone here apply for astro?
Maybe or maybe not
It means you weren't good enough for an accept early on but also good enough to not reject
uiuc weirdly doesn't look at loci, mid year grades or any additional details
how will they choose to accept or reject me in rd tho?
Based on the RD pool itself
If a lot of people in RD are better then it might be tough
submitted my appeal!!
good luck
which major
!uiuc
I got an email
Financial issues lol
Aw okay
!uiuc
Hii, I want to ask if cs +x programs take similar courses as cs majors? or would it focus on a balance of the cs part and the x part? b/c i'm scared that the amount of x courses would restrain me from taking more cs courses😖
Yes. It is open to CS, CS+X, Compe, and EE
I would not say “restrain”. CS+ majors take exact core CS classes / requirements as the Grainger CS ppls. CS 124 -> CS 173,128 -> CS 225 -> CS 374.
@keen ether can answer more about this
yessir
yep we take the same core
the cs part is more emphasized actually
no issue with electives
You should be totally fine getting 3.0 and above with some grinding and good work ethics. Especially on 100 lv and 200 lv classes
Just note, GPA cutoffs also differs by major you might want to talk to your advisors when choosing ur major
check: https://grainger.illinois.edu/academics/undergraduate/engineering-undeclared
-> Students who earn at least a 3.0 UIUC GPA and a 3.0 specialized GPA while fulfilling the above requirements are pre-approved to enroll into one of their three majors of interest. While we try to place each student in their first-choice major of interest, it is not guaranteed. Students specify their majors of interest at the end of their first semester and may modify them in consultation with an EU advisor.
Got it. Thank you!
Thanks :)
I am pretty sure it is after your freshman year. (At least 2 semesters)
I think about ``` Students specify their majors of interest at the end of their first semester and may modify them in consultation with an EU advisor.
in uiuc it should be definitely doable
getting a 3.0 GPA means that you are maintaining B or above in courses which is about 86-83%. For 100lv and 200lv courses it should absolutely be doable as long as you put in the work and keep a good work ethic. Some of the courses also do incentives you to work harder by giving extra credits! (eg: CS 225 (Data Structures) has a full letter grade worth of extra credit if you submit your hws early and do extra problems of the day)
uiuc the only guys to wish me on my birthday 😭 ❤️
thank you!!
Happy Birthday 🎁🎂🎈🎉
Aw happy birthh
Thank you!! and @lethal ermine thank you as well!
happy bday!!!
r u 18??
adult !!!
yeah!! I can drive now!!!!!!!
if the car can go till 220 it's to be driven at 220
(kilometers sorry americans like 136 miles)
absolutely based, late 2005/early 2006 gang yessir, happy birthday
as a km/h person thats f r i g h t e n i n g
happy birthday!! same for me haha uiuc and purdue were the only ones
Does UIUC let you do any minor? Think i heard someone say you can get a minor in anything thats offered as a major but that doesnt seem like it on the website
happy bday, have a great day
My GMail account's birthday is set for 1st Jan 1974. On new year's day, I got 12 emails from LACs saying happy 50th birthday, apply to our college...
dk how they got my gmail bday tho
Thank you!
yeah thats weird lol
guys is UIUC easy or hard to transfer in for CE
or any CS + X major since i assume some of them aren't extremely competitive
transferring into CE is hard
transferring into any CS+X major is also hard
explain hard...
is it harder to internally transfer or externally transfer in ur opinion
also which Cs+x majors are easier than others to transfer into
imo internally transfer is harder because you need to be in accepted into engineering-undeclared and then you have to accepted into CompE
also if you want to CompE because it's close to CS then that's a bad idea if you aren't interested in hardware
why is that
my friend applied CE cause he chickened out on CS
oh I see
well I mean I am interesgting in coding and stuff its just UIUC is too hard to get into for CS
if you aren't interested in hardware then CompE is going to be rough for you
I mean I am good at physics and stuff and I have computer building experience but idk what it has specifically
I would recommend only doing CompE if you are interested in CompE
A lot of the people here who do CompE for the CS always whine and complain about taking ECE classes. Many do end up taking a liking to CompE but it's rough but for the people who don't.
yeah EE is actually my 2nd choice major
I am interesting in engineering and computer science
but their cs is legit impossible to get into
ok cool
yep
you can easily transfer from EE to Compe
so im trying to use CE to get in there first
?
oh
yeah
I was like wait lol
that was a typo my bad
I understand
I'm just trying to warn you about what happens to a lot of people here
yeah
are the classes hard though
yep
CompE is harder than CS here
there will be a mixture of good classes and hard classes
like it is at most universities
yes but not easily for the ladder
Yss
With minor exceptions
Yes to all CS + x not in grianger
Counter point is that if you meet the reqs for CS +X, it's pretty easy
But meeting the reqs could be tough
Is it really hard to transfer
Not particularly
Super easy in most cases imo
Also does anyone know how accommodating the disability resources office is? I have like +50% extra time on tests as well as a computer to type out written exams (from 504 plan), will this translate to UIUC?
And my last psych evaluation was in August 2022
Yes
I'm sure I probably asked before and forgot but is there any data on how many appeals are accepted a year
What is LOCI
Matter of continued interest
I regret picking plain comp sci with no second choice
Fml
Does uiuc do loci?
yo do you know how dual degree work?
like can i start taking classes with my second degree within year one?
Yea they cross college
Yea you can start them freshmen year
I feel like everyone from cs + x is tryna transfer to cs + math/stats/econ LOL
lokey wish I could do a dual major with cs and math
instead of just a cs+math
and here I am with cs & stats questioning why I even applied for it💀
nobody wants what they have💀
Yea lowkey it's kind sad
I wish people did at least what they were interested in for their +X since so many people don't like the CS side
Doing CS + math is better imo
You aren't rushed for time
You could fulfill the whole math side and CS side, but at least this gives you leeway
this is pretty valid yeah
ig i'm kinda lucky that i'm pretty interested in math haha
anyone know the deferral to accept rate?
for cs+stats
and at uiuc, does deferral genuinely mean they're considering you or is it a soft reject
deferal means they're considering, idk the exact numbers but i got deferred for math+cs last year and got in
alr
its kinda frustrating that they dont take any loci or mid year report
nothing to improve the situation
Does anyone know when appeal decisions come out?
Is there a possibility they come out with RD
i'm guessing appeals are just rolling because its a case-by-case basis
so no set date
one man's frustration is another man's blessing fr fr🔥
This fucking bot I swear to god
I'm not even getting a decision on this date but it's still giving me anxiety
!uiuc

chrissake
Deferrals are given the same level of consideration as RDS right?
!uiuc
Almost a week 💀
good luck everyone
Best of luck everyone! U guys got this 🔥 Cannot wait to welcome you guys
thanks besties
np besties
just noticed that in my SRAR, for one of my year 12 courses, I have selected the subject as science but the course is actually Math AA HL, shdn't be a problem right or should I email admissions?
if there's an option to specifically select Math AA HL then you should probably email admissions, since they'll require the final highschool grades after you've graduated highschool
this is the issue, i've mentioned the course name, just selected the wrong subject category
for the subject i put math aa hl under "mathematics"
also how did you put ur 1st sem grades already?
shouldn't be a problem but you probably shouldn't leave them assuming that you made a mistake while selecting the subject category
yeh that’s my mistake
got it so I will still email admissions to let them know
I had my first semester grades by mid December since my first semester started in July
oh did u apply rd?
yeah
grainger?
Did my first choice as Math and CS which is a combined major at both grainier and CLAS I believe
!uiuc
Yah
Ur right
Although are technically housed in LAS
Uhhh sometime in April I think?
i think the scholarships drop late march-early april?
!uiuc
good luck
!uiuc
looks like im the only non cs person here
!uiuc
I got in for aerospace
You are not alone
@frozen holly @keen ether its usually pretty easy to transfer into math and cs, if you're already in a cs+x right?
just have to do the math requirement?
Yes
!uiuc
That is very soon
!uiuc
same question
how easy is it to transfer to cs + math if I get into another cs+X
Pretty easy just meet the math requirements
alright
also decisions come out on the 1st no?
for deferred
Yeah
Yea
more I believe
how hard is the process for transferring to mechanical from civil?
!uiuc
Got a free T shirt from gies 😮
i got a bill for 60k
the cost calculator lol
my estimated cost is 63k 💀
and illinois isn't know for giving aid either
cs 🤡
no i got honors
scholarship comes out after rd
with frat dues and added expenditures, this shits gonna come close to 70k/year 😮💨
ahhh
Wym
i mean you paid to apply right
ur not from gies
No I got fee waiver
thats prolly why
you still gon pay them fat checks every year bro
Nah I’m not going
Yeah but if I were to go to uiuc I would do accounting
Since uiuc is #2 in accounting and is a target for accounting firms
uiuc need to give some damn aid 💀
fr? a target?
Yeah I’m still waiting to hear back
never gon happen
For big 4 accounting firms
2.8 gpa 900 sat
Prolly not gonna attend Kelley if I did get in
or what
Yeah
damn so cracked
I forgot my family is poor I should’ve applied to more privates
Dude I’m joking 😭
just don't join a frat
it saves money in the long run if you go out often
does it?
lol low tabs and could get out of covers
!uiuc
Uiuc sent me some merch 🥳
showwww
does anyone know how hard it is to transfer to engineering (I was accepted to chem)
for some reason I can’t find where it says this like on a website
depends on the type of engineering
the thing is I’m not very sure what I want to major in so I was just asking if I become interested in engineering in the future
chemical engineering is also part of the college of sciences so that is an easy internal transfer
thanks but I’m guessing that wouldn’t apply to other types of engineering?
Nah
ty
since uiuc doesn't consider any new information (I was deferred), does that mean that they won't open my file again and will just wait if anyone better applies?
really in the dark
!uiuc
Nice
!uiuc
@fading kiln I found ur YouTube
🤩🤩 Enjoy my content!
I might also do some review videos on Green Street restaurants
i was in one of the lectures in your most recent video lol (Schuh's 210 lecture)
i didn't show up in the video though
Nice I subscribed 👍
!uiuc
!uiuc
When do honors offers for ea applicants come out? Did I need to apply for honors?
it's automatic, some people have already gotten honors but i think it's rolling
and there's different types of honors
!uiuc
!uiuc
Filling out this roomate thing right now, does it automatically match your roomate to your preferences or do you have to search for your preferences and invite them?
!uiuc
What roommate thing
For grainger, are you automatically in the major you initially chose
Or do they make you go into general engineering first year
And then you declare after it
yes
however, there are cases where you get into undeclared engineering if you don't get into your first or second choice major
and you have apply to get into the engineering major you want
Kn housing contract
!uiuc
how many of yall who got accepted in ea have already committed/are highly likely or almost certain to commit?
im not committing
Probably not gonna commit
guess same for me, but so far its my best acceptance💀 , hoping for better rd's
what is yalls major
At uiuc? CS and stats
But I'll probably switch to pure math/Phys I have no clue why I applied for cs (indian peer pressure fr)
Better stuff is in store for you! Dw
same, indian but math
I may commit
tysm
nice, major?
Aerospace
For Illinois commitment, if you're an independent student is the income requirement still based on your family's income?
I did
i didn’t yet but i prolly will unless ucla or stanford hit (maybe ucsd or uw but idk yet)
oos cs for uiuc^
Im in state undeclared engineering
Nice 👍🏾
ucla cs last year was fucking 3.1% 💀
Its a good school wym 😭
It wasnt my top top choice either but its still an insanely good school to get into
'Better' in terms of state of mind😭
Obviously Kaustubh's unhappy about it despite it being a great school so I hope that in the future he'll have options he feels great about
on a weather note tho, it does snow there, so if you're coming from a sunny area and internally cry at 1 inch of rain, maybe consider other colleges
same, how bad is the cold
I live like 2 hours north but it gets pretty cold in winter here
But its nice right now
Like 10-30 F constistently for a month or 2
!uiuc
not unhappy at all, just applied to a number of better ones in rd and id like to make it to one atleast
also uiuc is top 5 cs, even cs+x is brilliant id say, there are only a few schools that are actually gonna be better in cs, but as you said you wanna get into sciences, so thats totally up to you, id still say uiuc is a very nice school
oml i cant waitt
global warming is lowk making it hotter here 💀
its 70 today
You guys think I’m getting in or naw? taking bets
Also assuming it's akin to Chicago weather like I hear people say buy hand warmers
I meant to reply to the original question my bad 😭
!uiuc
it’s between here and umd for comp eng and waiting on uc’s + vandy + bu + usc
!UIUC
I got that too :—)
What major did you get in for?
its from the school of information sciences
I see
which has information science & information science + data science
wait yeah i’m surprised they haven’t
maybe it’s just cuz the school of info sci is a lot newer
grainger didn’t send me diddly squat
Information science
!uiuc
grainger sent stickers
oh yeah i got those
Did anyone get their appeal decision back?
wait they only sent the regular uiuc stickers
nothing grainger specfic
!uiuc
do i have any chance on getting in test optional (Got deferred for ee)
freaking out
yah
yes
i got in test optional
U have to wait until march 15 minimum
Is there a megathread for uiuc on reddit
yo
jhao
uiuc las has this annoying policy
where you need 4 years of language
very depressing : (
because that is going to singlehandedly destroy my gpa
grainger kids did yall also get the invitation to SITE?
it says hotel accomodations + meals provided
any of u doing it?
Which language?
yeah got it but idk if ima do it
im waiting on uc's and other privates and my one true love usc
i come from india, so adjusting to the weather is gonna be hard anywhere ill go anyways. its gonna be reaching 80 here before february ends, and theres constant 100+ weather for 3-4 months straight lmao
!uiuc
do u have to commit for SITE?
idk
same but then i’d also have to fly across the country
Only 4 semesters I think
I spoke another language when I entered uiuc so they just waived it for me
!uiuc
Wait so you don't have to learn a language if you already speak one or does that depend on major
you can argue with ur advisor to get language credit sometimes lol
ok lol
If I get in DGS is it worth it to go here in state if I'm trying to transfer into eu?
!uiuc
thats so weird lol
physics is in grainger but chemE is in sciences
maybe applied physics kind of stuff
like northwestern has applied math in mccormick
!UIUC
!uiuc
I saw it when I was on the uiuc website
I am probably not going
Cause I am going in April
!UIUC
!UIUC
!uiuc
u got deferred?

did u get deferred from uiuc or applying rd?
!uiuc
did u get in
in ea yeah
!uiuc
!uiuc
!uiuc

Yes I got around 4k a year but I’m in state
Kinda mid ig
It’s alright I believe it’s ranked #35
it’s very expensive OOS so that’s understandable
yeaa
not even sure if I would have made it if I was out of state
is it competitive for OOS
I think this year was pretty competitive OOS
I’m really hoping to get an Ivy or t20 this March
i though acc rate was like 90%
anyone know what the free merch at Grainger Engineering Out-of-State Admitted Student Events is?
Not for CS or out of state
thats what i saw on google
which major
econ
you'll get in dw
i heard they gotta a really good defferal conversion rate
like 50%
oh nice
Ong (I didn't even get deferred I was denied)
!UIUC
is it 4pm est or my local time?
yay
4 pm cst
!uiuc
!uiuc
Anyone else here deferred?
i did
bro so scared honestly
I’m gonna be so sad if I get rejected
I got deferred from gt and mich too so this is lowkey my last hope
what major did you get deferred from uiuc
stats and cs
!uiuc
!uiuc
!uiuc
!uiuc
Does anyone have an idea of what the acceptance rate is like for internationals?
just found this table on reddit
it's probably from their official documents so I'll assume it's accurate
zero
yes that sounds about right
!uiuc
Why is UIUC playing with me? Just release the decision already
I forgot there was a 29th of February and was entirely ready to receive my decision today
2 am at my time ffs
which country
Oh did you get into Berkeley
Lmao you guys got it good, my head EA decisions were around this time
A bit higher than OOS actually
yall while i was at school this random number from called me so i obviously didnt answer can i send the digits and can someone tell me if they recognize it 😭
For CS the intl acc rate is like 5%
yes!!!
330 am
Unis don't usually call
india
Goddamn regents??
Insane
You think it’s because the international applications are more competitive or they’re less selective?
yeah i got a random call from Illinois Chicago in October but i never picked it up and to this day I regret 😭
oml when did berkely come out?
Regents
berkeley is like
no but early admissions
They sent out 1% of acceptances
1.5% or smth
It's probably a money thing ngl intls pay more
omg congratulations wtf
intl pays morer
i didn't apply as cs but i probs will double major in data sci and media studies
so more money
thank you 🫶🫶🫶
So if you applied to any ivies maybe pray
what majors did u apply
Alright cool
yeah Berkeley is def my top choice rn cuz instate lol
Ahhh
i applied English/media studies
what is media studies
Berkeley is #1 for English so I was kinda uh i wanted to see if I'd get in to the best English program LOL
Like movies pop culture
Journalism mostly
not exactly that kinda media
so you can chill in college
journalism/news
Ah ok I see
💀
nah im double majoring + pre law
Ahhh yea cinema and media studies is different
I was thinking about cinema and media studies
are you from india
Ah
or cali
The UC app is the same for all uc's and i was filling it out for UCLA and UCI anyways so i just added Berkeley cuz uh i wanted to see if I'd get in for flex purposes💀 so i didn't really research the major beforehand LOL
And yet you ended up top of the list lol
live and did hs in India, pay cali in state tuition
tbh if it was a Berkeley specific thing I would not have
but I put a lot of work into my UC app in general cuz ucla
i adore ucla
damn gotta be cracked
Lolll
don't hate on me guys i now adore Berkeley as well!!
cuz berkeley cal usc is crazy
yes
what %
i can't do phys i swear
march 4th
(cbse pcm cs)
oh how so, i am curious
because i didn't qualify for michigan in-state tuition
maybe her family lives in cali
rip
is it batches or all of 'em?
registration ends like in 2 days just to let you know
i was born in cali and lived there for 7 years, parents have been paying cali taxes for uh 20 years? also the uc's have this thing called ab 540 where basically if you finish cali coursework and did 3 years at a cali school (including elementary/middle school) you get instate tuition so yeah i lucked out
i read somewhere it takes 6 weeks for them to make a decisiion
shit ty💀 will look into it
whatt
thats just like my case but for chicago
damn, if only my parents continued paying taxes to michigan
i dont get any instate even tho my dad pays taxes
i finished cali coursework tho
upto which grade
which includes self studying ap us history and us gov
i mean high school coursework
so only aps?
wdym
how did u complete a high school coursework in cali from india
varies from state to state
oh yeah only APs
yea ik
A-G approved course list i assume?
i got scammed
finished all of that
I don't really expect a berkeley admission in march eventhough my major has an admit rate of 28% 😭
What major
applied math
whats ur second choice
just like me
overseas citizens have it rough
india
north
South 🔛 🔝
im south too
I hope all of you do get in tomorrow. If you get in, consider signing up the admitted student events (separate at each college). These slots may fill up really fast, if you wait a day or 2.
For grainger (engineering), https://grainger.illinois.edu/admissions/undergraduate/plan-a-visit/admitted-events
nah
father of a kid who got in EA
EE
electrical engineering?
yes
it's a girl 🙂
true
we are OOS and never been to UIUC. she's attending the "little sister weekend" event
probably why the acc rates are skewed too
illinois is a fire place man
im hoping I get in
im from chicago
i used to live in Chicago for 6 yrs 20+ yrs ago
hyde park and Lincoln park
i dont stay in chicago anymore either used to live there 10 years back
wait where is lincoln park?
Chicago was nice. Met my wife there
haha glad to hear that
not sure if I can take a 15 hour flight though but thanks for letting me know!
there are virtual events as well
anyone appeal rejection here ?
no
k
Yeah
damn rd notif date came way quicker than i expected
what’d you do?
You have to call admissions and then inform them you want to make an appeal, if there's an available counselor they'll connect you but usually they'll tell you that theyll call you back in a few days
!uiuc
!uiuc
Good luck guys!!!
Yeaaaa sadlyyyy
