yea thats why we dont apply for fin aid on commonapp and dont need scholarships
must be nice
since college is covered plus a monthly salary of 4.5k
yeaa people take it for granted tho and ridicule our goverment for not giving more lol
4.5k us dollars??
yea so its a full ride plus a monthly sallary of 4.5k dollars
unless u get into a t30 then its 6k dollars
Feeling very Kuwaiti today
UIUC discord?
born in the wrong country fr 💀
i can send you it if you want
send m too pls
Please do
does anyone have any thoughts regarding grainger physics
like from someone else I heard that the research funds are lacking
what do you guys think
same i was accepted for physics
gouda u ugly mf
excuse me?
is getting into uiuc las as an international student impressive💀
1480 sat 3.9 uw gpa(school doesnt do weighted)
As good as the Grainger CS programs here
Here is almost no difference
Recruiting for jobs will be the same, research the same, etc
I mean yea
Our acceptance rate dips each year
good to know, if i end up committing ill try my best to switch to math+cs even though its reallyy hard(that is if cs is where im ultimately interested)
will i be takign cs classes not in grainger?
thats been ur plan the whole time lmao dont try to play it off
blud said "if tahts where im interested"
No all CS classes are in Grainger lol
So you'll be taking all CS classes in Grainger
It's not too hard
Get the grades and then ur pretty much good
People overstress it's difficulty
did they get rid of cs + stat
It never was a CS + X
Math & CS is not a CS + X either
It's a separate program
Stats & CS and Math & CS are not formally grouped with cs + x but everyone kinda just does group them together
But when you apply it's clear that they aren't considered CS + X formally
That's because they were developed years before CS + X was a thing
In fact math & CS is the first CS major at uiuc
Older than Grainger cs
aight gng we get it
And then after grianger cs came out stats & CS came out
In 2013 we developed the CS + X programs
who's we blud
Uiuc
oh fs
Ok bro
they offered math and cs beofre actual cs?
Yes
Math & CS is older than Grainger CS
damn thats kinda weird
wow 🤯
Cause CS is applied math
Bro is trying so hard lmao this funny af
i got into cs + econ
dyt i shoudlnt
maybe ill choose a bit after
can u transfer from grainger to cs+ x programs?
Yea
if not then minor?
what is bro sayin 💀
Thru ICT
oo i see
Nah lmao that MF just attention seeking
ong 😭
It's what happens when mf don't have a life
idk if its worth it from grainger but lets see
What major did you get in for Grainger
neural engineering, its my fav major out of all unis i applied to but everyone saying its new so im sceptical
Hmmm yea I can see that
Neural engineering is new but it looks cool
like i really love all the courses they're insane
You could minor in cs perhaps?
do you think that'd give same opportunities tho
dude im serious
As CS?
i may wanna get into finance
Neural engineering is not really CS
theres a reason i still chose math
But it'll probably land you good engineering opportunities
Yo ignore him
its a reasonable thought but it isnt so
youre right it was just kinda off putting
this might be specific cuz like i wanna go into stuff like hci and stuff like neuralink stuff which is both
Yea just ignore
Ahh hmmmmm
That's hard to say honestly, I'm not familiar with that
especially with so many a2cers having an insufferable superiority complex
Uhh I think the best idea is to ask someone in that track and ask them for opinions
thats fair its really niche, its just i dont want to close options you know
I think you want to at least minor in cs though
We don't have much HCI classes in CS I think? I might be wrong cause I'm not all that much into it
Mhm exactly
Just ignore them
thats fair! are you planning to go into swe or ml/data sci roles
Yep
Like 90% of other CS majors 😭
I was gonna go into CS education originally but yea I haven't really done anything in that
My schedule too cramped lol
relatable
but then math seemed cooler
Yea math is nice
didnts ee this thats acc hella fire

so ill get grainger education w smth on the side too
someone on reddit said uiuc math is underrated lol so thats something
Yep all CS classes are provided by grianger
please be nice to each other thanks
Mhm yep
Yea probably
thats too fye bruh
I don't know too much about the math program
hows cs + stat
It's decent I think, a lot more CS classes than stats though lol
I have taken like 3 times as many CS classes as stats
tbh thats fire
yeah its understandable, i did get in touch with a few math people at uiuc recently
But some of my peers have taken equal amounts cause they really like stats
ima be real with you I appleid cs + econ for the boost I would get acceptance rate wise
and it worked
Ah yea
Lmao that's fair
4 in calc ab wont earn me any credits will it?
congrats on ur acceptance
CS + econ is similar, you'll take way more CS classes on average
whatd you apply?
In las it probably will?
I'm not 100% sure
and 3 in ap stats i assume is definitely not gonna
hope so
Well technically we are supposed to take every AP with a 3 and above
bros j yappin 😭
if i do get math+cs i got a 5 in ap csp ready👍
You won't get past the class but you'll get the credit
maybe thatll do some
yeah ill most prolly wanna still take the class
alr thats hella fire im tryna maximize the cs classes
Yea so you'll need to retake the class but you'll get 3 credits of general credit
Yea CS + econ is good in that regard in that you can basically finish all econ classes early
ap is expensive in india
You can't necessarily do that with stats on a heavy CS course load cause stat is a bit slower in progression and harder
Yea I see
https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/apply/freshman/college-credit-ap you can see ap creidts there i think
Mmm yea your advisor will talk to you about it
Try to ask your advisor to give you credit if you are on the border
Because they can do that
hmm then ig cs + econ might just b ethe move for me
I wish Itook ap macro and micro this yr
so i could apc redit outta couple eocon classes
damn what
if you just beg they can give credit wtaf 😭
thtas 2 fye
hmm 5 hours of math 220(not sure what it means but sounds good)
Well it's like if you got a 4 in bc
Technically they aren't supposed to give you credit I think
But if you convince them enough it should be fine lol
Same for language credit I think?
my counselor did recommend me to take the classes anyways
igh im kinda dumb
can you tell me what proffing is 😭
Proficiency exams
on the webiste it says they give credit for 4 idk
also 3 hrs of comp 105 with 5 in csp
oh is it like a test
For LAS, for Grainger you generally need a 5
good thing I have the 5 then
oh how would ap credit work for cs + x
since its like a combination of grainger and LAS
fire
can i transfer to cs+physics if i got into physocs
No
The uni bans transfers into CS, CS + BioE, CS + Physics
just curious, why is it allowed to go from CS+Econ --> CS+Math but not CS+Physics?
Because CS + physics is Grainger
I think the idea is that in order to transfer into any major in grianger you must transfer to engineering undeclared
And cause this many people when transferring from CS + X programs to Grainger CS + X programs will lose their CS program
As in they will leave the CS program in order to transfer into any grianger major
And that makes it significantly harder to get back in
So the university probably doesn't want people doing that in case they get fucked and dont transfer back in
And also cause eng undeclared has some issues, I think that's why originally Grainger CS transfer were shut down
Wow I didn’t know this
rip
Yea also cause way too many people were trying to transfer into grainger cs
Like the acc rate for transfer was 2% or something
Any major
They just shut the whole transfer idea down
oh, so now people just try to transfer into cs + x
Why is CS so sort after in the whole world?
I think mainly cause grianger needs engineering undeclared
Like in India also CS is the most popular major
money
You can only switch into non grianger CS + X now
betchya
Can u switch from CS + Bioe to CS and stats?
Idk if they'll ever lift that restriction
Mm yep
SWE money
I feel like everyone is trying to transfer from their CS + X to CS + Math/Stats
It's a one way street though
lmfaoooo
You'll never will be able to get back into CS + bioE
What do you mean??
Once you transfer out
Ohhh
eng --> LAS, but not LAS --> eng
Can u switch within Grainger?
Yea but also one way from CS + bioE
OOF
But fine
I want to take this challenge
Cause you cannot transfer into CS + bioE
Mmm yea the program looks cool
Looks very worth it
Next year will the seats increase?
Probably
Ohh
Can international students apply for internships in the first year if they have the necessary skills?
Thanks
Appealing my decision today, hopefully it actually does something 😭
i am appealing data science + astronomy . will it be a good chance to get in for liberal arts and sciences
good luck
Thank you 😸
who knows, hopefully it works out
If you ask the counselor what they think you should apply for as a third choice they'll give you a recommendation
did the admissions counselor tell you why you got denied?
Not me personally although one of my friends got told that there was a potential mistake with some of the applications they reviewed (don't take that as like absolute fact though)
yeah
i had called the admissions office yesterday but due to large no. of applicants they told they'll connect me with a counselor before friday
but i'll surely ask them for some opinions based on my application
Yeah they're like really busy this year
Good luck 🤞🏿
did u get connected to one
?
Yeah but it's probably because it was a call like right around when the office opened
ohh nice. best of luck to u too !
Thank you!
Can i appeal compe rejection with cs +education i think my profile fits it
you can try
anyone know when rd decisions come out
wait its only 25? where is this stat from
“Students should apply in the Fall of 2023 for admission the following year. The first class of approximately 25 students will begin in the Fall of 2024.”
https://cs.illinois.edu/news/groundbreaking-cs-x-degrees-expand-into-bioengineering-and-physics
interesting thanks
Still depressed over this school
Yeah i got into undeclared eng with pretty bad stats for engineering
Not bad just mediocre
Apparently its 60% acceptance rate if its first choice
For in state at least
any current students at uiuc in cs+stats?
i had it as my first choice but got accepted for stats only (second choice)
which is still in LAS
is transferring into cs+stats realistic?
and if it isn't, i'm interested in data science which is why i picked cs+stats in the first place
any chances to do something related to that at uiuc?
whether its double major, minor, or something else
@keen ether
Hello
Yea if ur on top of grades
Stats major CS minor is good for data science too
can u send asw
but you have to submit some portfolio too? and i read that just having good grades and taking certain cs courses won't guarantee anything
sure
oh alright thank you!
thx man
Yep but that part just join some clubs do some projects
Yep
cs+physics sounds honestly pretty cool
would totally do that if they didn't have math/stats
also just curious what are the main difference between cs + math & stats?
how about cs+astro 👀
astro is cooler physics imo
i wish more colleges did the cs+x thing
(they arent rlly a cs school but i know washu has cs + econ)
idk
I feel like physics is just more mathy
and computational
astro could be cooler, as long as you do the right astro lol
you can check the course catalog
like is cs+physics much less in depth than a physics major
search us cs + physic srequirements
too lazy to look thru everything 😂
Not much just the course work in the X
They take almost the same CS classes
How is freshman housing
Should i commit now to get good housing i only have 1 more decision i would even consider going to over uiuc
first year students pick housing over the summer
you can wait until that final decision
you get a random slot for picking housing, might as well wait.
got it thank you so much!
do you know anything about data science+info science?
and transferring into that
i know it's a completely different school lol
but i was just wondering
objective there are people from all around the world here
Uhhhh
It's I think a similar transfer as CS + x in that you need a certain gpa
I think it's 3.67?
A lot of people transferred in
Although if your goal is to do data science I highly don't recommend IS + DS
It's a underdeveloped program to be an actual data scientist
what are they
Actually theyre not that bad thinking about it i was kinda bejng dramatic
I had a good profile but mid grades in math and physics
And no engineering related activities really
But i dont think i would have as much a chance if i chose mech and electrical
so for that you would recommend transferring to stats+cs or stats major cs minor, right
Yes
IS + DS just isn't rigourous enough for data science
And they learn no deep stats
👍
do you know anything about masters programs in data science at uiuc?
I know a bit about the MCS DS
I plan to do it
It looks like a CS masters with emphasis on data science
cs is pretty competitive so id assume its decent
bruh i genuinely think i got deferred from cs+stats cuz I didnt take ap stats
im seeing a lot of people with worse profiles than me who got in
when do they send out official acceptance letters in mail
not bad
thats me
LOL
I was the last admit into cs+stats and part of it was cause I did not take ap stats
So maybe there’s hope for me
can I email UIUC to appeal my major or do i need to call them?
almost wish i hadnt taken it cuz i got a 3 on it
but well oh well it did work out
i legitimately dont understand how i passed, i guessed on the last 13 questions cuz i had just run out of time
cuz i had like 20 days to do calc ab, stats, chem, physics c and csp lol and had not gone over the stats material very well at all
idk
does uiuc even ask for ib scores
if u score like shit cant u just not send
if they considered your predicted when admitting you, prob within 2 points of predicted
do final ib transcripts even get sent??
Im gonna get ib results in july
And colleges start in august
by that time they already have your hs transcripts and all that so I doubt they even need the IB diploma
Ah somebody gotta convince me about UIUC it’s instate for me so cheaper plus I know rankings are higher but I got into umich for cs as well and I’ve always said I really don’t want to go to Illinois
Struggling to make the common sense decision
well for starters umich oos is like 80k
idk if thats a concern for you
its also super cold there
and a bit dangerous
is mich colder or illinois
idk bout illinois given ive never been (will be visiting tho) but mich is mad cold
but i also live in bright sunny socal so 50 degrees is cold for me
socal weather the dream
i love socal wanna stay here but its lookin like im gonna have to spend a year in maryland or illinois for now
nah trust we get into uc's as well
fax
mich is even further north so its prob a bit colder there
Luckily parents have been saving for like 20 years and said they don’t want me to think ab money
But I can’t just ignore it yk
goated
Ik im very fortunate
im in the same boat grateful to not to have to worry about the cost but still im concerned about it at least
thats irrelevant, you got into uiuc which is way cheaper so you should go
think about your parents
since they can now save 40k a year for your college tuition, they can retire more peacefully
just because they have the money doesn't mean you should waste it
if you want to go to umich, take a little bit from your parents and get a loan for the rest
wait they can save way more then 40k a year
yeah but they wont be taking on any debt and all the money is saved in a 529 college plan so im pretty sure the money is supposed to be for education anyways
im not sure how a 529 college plan works
but if theres any way possible, please try to save your parents money
you want them to retire peacefully no?
no i dont think u understand the full situation
they would save close to 60k a year
they have many different acounts that they have been setting money aside in for many years
yeah wonderful, they don't need to spend that money now
i think you shoudl ask biggreen in #🌻-app-questions since hes an adult he would advice you the best
the 529 plan is an accoutn that they have been putting money in since before i was born specifically to use for college, its tax deductible if used for education and if not its 10% penalty plus taxes
10% penalty plus taxes would still mean they save some money correct?
if you went to uiuc
well yeah there is no doubt they would save money
then thats ideal since umich and uiuc are equivalent for cs
got admission package in mail
just a sheet of stickers and i have half the stickers anyway but still cool
i'm hella late but i got in oos cs somehow
but i live in cali so my parents want me to stay close bc they dont trust me to live myself 💀 so ima prolly take ucsd and ucla over
yeah have to use your 529 for college otherwise there’s a tax penalty i think
goddam nice
thats like 6 percent acc rate
bro YOUR HIM 🫡
Just got my UIUC stickers, love em 😍😍😍
Do you plan on doing grad school?

this is so real
my parents think i can't handle the cold if i go to uiuc lol

what major ru doing?
i can’t
cs & bioe
congrats
W
its not that bad
manageable
tons of intl students from tropical areas manage fine
yea i think i'll be okay, prob just need to buy a new coat tho
bet
i have no idea how i got in
like after i applied everyone was telling me i shoulda done cs + x instead of cs
and i was like
well shit
nahh im sure u were rlly good
i mostly did cs+x cuz it worked well with my interests
hello does anyone konw how the james scholar honors program works for incoming first years?
i am a bit confused as to when i should be applying and the requirements
4/20 6:09 pm ymt ||/j||
James scholars is given to you during admissions. So if you didn't get James scholars as part of your admissions decision, you'll have to apply for it after you get here
Ooo got it thank you so much
what's James scholars?
did anyone here get it!
Like the uiuc honors program
It's kinda stupid tho
Not really useful
i know it used to be like this but im pretty sure for the past few years it's come out closer to the rd decision date, even for ea ppl
University wide
Mmm yea but it comes out before you get here for sure
oh yeah def i just wanted to clarify that it hasnt actually come out for anyone yet
Yea
Tbh getting it or not doesn't really matter most people drop out of James scholars cause there is almost no benefit
Especially as you progress on
you have to take a certain amount of honors classes
think you need to do research as well
and maintain some gpa
then why do you say there's no benefit
thats no benefit lol
having to take honors classes is a pain
having to maintain a gpa is a pain too
it'll be advanced stuff right
no not always
honors classes here are not the traditional honors
they are just usually add ons that have nothing to do with the actual class it self, at least in CS
in math I know they have some honors classes that teach more, but taking those makes it harder to maintain gpa and stuff
the other honors program at uiuc is slightly better cause there is a small scholarship, but marginal benefits anyway
still need to do honors classes
when does uiuc deferred deicsions come out
Campus honors
Just wondering, is it useful to get priority housing? Since ISR is so much closer than the others to the engineering buildings? Or does it not really matter
idk when but the website says early march
U can apply for an LLC if u want to get into ISR.
do you know if you can enroll in courses earlier for either honors program
and then just softdrop it to register earlier
does it come out around the same time as merit scholarships?
im kinda confused abt the timeline
Is there an accepted students gc?
Mmm yea
Discord server yea
Can I have the link or something?
Mhm
can i also have it?
+1
lmao that email scared me
yeah should be i got 4pm too
+2
i can send it out as well
received the mail today
lemme check my mail
uiuc doesnt look at mid year right
so its irrelevant if my school sends it out at late ish feburary
correct
wait really?
how the hell did i get in on my old grades
thats crazy man
!uiuc
got an email saying RD decision on march 1. Why do people think that’s deferred? portal does not show deferred status.
Isn’t rd and deferred release date the same thing
haha ur him
yeah rd and deferred should have the same release date
I got no mail 😦
Got mine few days ago
Ru alr committed to GT?
Yuh
CYBERPATRIOT MY LOVE
I got mine yesterday
didnt apply RD
im lazy and i didnt do a lot of apps
fr
bro got every college on his laptop
i’m our schools cyberpatriot prez n founder lol
this my hacker laptop
W
i'm my school's pres
sick
bro that's fire i should do that
like college keychains or just in general?
just in general
i have like a single princeton keychain from when i visited though
😭
did anyone get scholarship with the decision?
it comes later
that's what I thought. but read someone already got scholarship from UIUC EE.
Probably external scholarship
Also uiuc barely gives scholarships
So don't count on it
What time do appeals usually get responses
If I do dgs is it possible to transfer into EU
is there a rough estimate of the number? the website just says variable but there would be a range right
hmmm I don't really have one
but if your intl or oos, its gonna be supe rlow
yea
yeah i know
i got in as a cs+x major but i got an email from grainger saying congrats? i thought cs+x is in lsa?
cs+x is in LAS
i guess the grainger email account sent an email to all CS+X and CS students saying congrats
oh
so do cs+x students take cs classes at grainger
ya i think so?
Got the email. Said the details will be sent 3/16
the cs department, which is in grainger, runs the CS courses, so the answer is yes
oh ok
They sent me one today but didn’t say how much
Is it competitive
Also ee tho
Wait, they already sent scholarship emails?
I got it
blud they sent me two acceptance packages
got into honors??????? chat what the hell is this real
the imposter syndrome is so real rn
and chancellor's scholar??? what is that
OFC U DID
Omg u got chancellor's????
HUGE CONGRATS U DESERVE THIS 💯 %
They like u 2x more than others 🔥
🔥🔥🔥
yes
all cs classe are in grainger
wait
did you get campus honors?
thats the harder one to get in than james scholar
and you get some scholarship with it
YOO CONGRATS
i aspire to be this
do both have your name on them
yeah lol
they should be coming soon for everyone
my friend got hers yesterday and i was seething over not getting mine
lol fair
yeah
stupid question
If you got into ur 2nd place major for ea, is the 1st place still possible during rd or just waitlist
it's 1000/year which feels kinda low considering how selective they make it sound
Awesome the ling classes in campus honors are really cool
There is a scriptures class I think?
They teach you how to carve that language in tablets I forgot what it was called
But it's open for honors only
Yea only a few people get it
u can flex
that sounds cool af
yea its hella cool
I applied campus honors, and got rejected
oh cuneiform class sounds like it goes so hard that's awesome
ye its taught by a really good ling prof here
how rare is UIUC scholarship? Like percentage?
good luck
good luck!!!!
prob uiuc 28 LMAOO
im prob uiuc 28 unless i get into ucla or ucsd or usc type shit
parents want me to stay in state
and obv stanford but 💀
gluck
uiuc is great, lots of cali people here lol
😋
wait you need to apply for campus honors?
if u dont get it as an incoming freshman i think u apply after a semester or smth
hey guys, should I email UIUC admissions office for updates? can I also add additional details for one of my awards listed on my original app
You can apply if you didn't get in freshmen year
oh that makes sense cause i did not remember applying
i'm at champaign train station rn
are you visiting unis or just going to the city
isnt that ny 💀
Ah the union
Do rd applicants need to submit mid year reports, if so how?
got a model un conference
i'm sure there are some fairly large apples somewhere in chicago
no they dont look at them for admission
no they dont look at em
Reminds me of Scranton PA
yes
do they look at second semester or nah
i did hear a lot of people can get silicon valley jobs after graduating
Yea at the end
Yea you can if you want
And put in the work for it
ugh
I just want to peacefully
fail all of my classes second sem
why are these colleges so toxic
that would certainly be the goal as a hardware engineer, i noticed that a lot of OOS is coming from that area
jhao i'm so sad
uiuc doesn't give priority over credits
broke my heart
😭
Yea you can apply to be one year above
i'm with you, just grinding my teeth at some of the courses i'm doing rn
I see yea
WAIT WHAT
wdym
I can pretend I am a sophmore even tho I enter college as a freshman???
@vapid veldt i'm grinding out biology even though i'm majoring in EE...
just not a good feeling to say the least
LOL
its gonna be worth imo
biology is important
i swear differential equations are easier than this biology
its a good class
they are lol
diff eq is one of the most brain dead classes I have ever taken
its just plug and chug
in electrical engineering? i'm not planning on going into the bio side
such a stupid class
no I mean general knowledge uk
true
you don't need A level knowledge
but c'mon at least B level knowledge haha
but i made a choice to accelerate my physics and chem
now i'm forced to do AP level
so this isn't pleasant
ee at uiuc is gonna be so fire
i'm excited!
I feel like uiuc could have been T1
if it wasn't in a cornfield
it was soooo close to achieve greatness
but alas
it's 2 hours away from all major cities
2 hours is basically 10 hours lmao
who is gonna drive 4 hours tho just to chill at chicago
💀
well yeah my point was that it's a long distance
lokey oliver
not short haha
OOS tuition is already high as it is
which is why we use the loans we get for OOS to buy a ferrari
c'mon Oliver think
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
would you rather drive a ferrari
or study
i mean think about it
i could... study so i can make a ton of money in the valley
then get a ferrari
easy
use ferrari to drive to valley
and then make money
THINK ABOUT ILt
climate change hasn't gone that far yet
LMFAO
did anyone apply to gies
Yes
You can change a cohort
Just need to apply
dude that's actually fire
since I want to graduate in two years can I change my cohort to be Junior, or is that too far?
(and consequently get the enrollment privileges associated with it)
That's prob too far
Just a year is about it
aight bet - how do I do this? I couldn't find any info by searching up "uiuc cohort change"
Yea it's new so you'll have to ask ur advisor
oh bet
dude thanks so much
you have helped me in so many aspects regarding uiuc lol
Lmao np
@vapid veldt graduating in 2 years?
well graduating in 3 years
which tbh isn't that bad
2 years undergrad and one year grad
how many credits are you going in with
15 AP classes * 3 --> 45 credits
I have CC but they don't transfer, but i'm going to test out of every single math & cs class since I already know the content
CS major?
so that is gonna be roughly 30 credits of testing out
cs + econ --> gonna transfer to cs + math
math is just econ but pure 😉
that’s 75 credits
mhm
Question number 2: are you human
wait actually
i'm doing (hopefully) a class spring quarter at udub, math 394
so that is another 3 credits
and then uh if I enjoy it then i'm going to do another 6 credits during summer haha
84 credits transfered
its wierd tho
like uk your parents want you to be competitive
I’m going in with “only” 30 and I’m using all four years
so like its wierd not to be
that is good
IMO you should take your time
especially for engineering
since I heard electrical engineering is a bear
so I’ll average 13 credits per semester or so
probably the hardest major in the entirity of uiuc?
ee is death yeah
makes sense yeah
honestly I might minor in ee
I’ll probably transfer calc trilogy, calc based physics 1 and 2, and a bunch of gen eds
low level stuff is fun
if you do decide to transfer the calc trilogy make sure that you have REALLY strong fundamentals
otherwise just redo it in college IMO
A UIUC alum professor taught me at community college
lokey do diff eq
in cc
in diff eq I got a good number of EE problems LOL
I’m planning on doing diff eq and linear algebra
that is really fire
linear algebra is fun
diff eq is slightly fun, depends
mostly boring
I’m good with boring if it gets me an A
oh then you are set haha
better than exciting in terms of grade fluctuating
yeah its the most brainless class tbh
I did get a B in linear algebra
just plug and chug 20 formulas you memorize
oh shit
uh just self study axlers
teehee
actually no
I don't think engineers even need it
uh
some vector stuff probably
gives vector calc vibes
bro all of the people who want to do engineering and hate math is crazy
There’s some stuff in linear algebra that’s just hard to visualize
like do they not know engineering is bsaically applied math?
yeah you need to watch 3B1B linear algebra videos
helps a lot
Yeah I noticed, personally I’m chill with math and I’ll def learn anything I need to
In fact I liked physics a lot which played a role in my major choice
yeah if you go into engineering having good math fundamentals you are set up really strongly
lokey Oliver
I did a lot of quantum computing research and
quantum computing loves EE
not even phd students
just bachelors EE
I’m just… a bit worried about analog signal processing (210) since I plan on taking it in spring semester
during freshman year?
yeah
fourier transformations
hopefully I’ll be fine
for diff eq make sure to reference pausl notes
wait but oliver you have to check out quantum computing
Paul’s notes are a lifesaver
its gonna be the next ML thing I swear to god
and good EE are primed for quantum computing
I’m more interested in the hardware side tbh
by quantum computing I mean the quantum computers
which is literally the hardware
yeah not the math phd stuff lol
the issue with quantum computing now is that
the theory is soooooo far ahead
then that would be photonics and microelectronics
even though we can't even get the hardware right haha
then why are hardware engineers being paid less than software 💀 plays a role in where the talent goes
idk I just know that virtually all people who work on the computum computer hardware are mostly EE or Physics majors
lokey software people make so much money its fucking stupid
like it doesn't make any sense
I have low intelletualy abilities
i'm pretty fucking stupid
but even I can do a for loop LOL
it’s so saturated, I’m wondering wth is going on that in the valley, a software engineer can make 200k a year doing nothing but a hardware engineer works his way up from like 130-150k
tbh with GPU's hardware engineers can make hella money
press x to doubt
work on chips and you will make glorious money
If I’m gonna be using physics to make big bucks, I’m all for it
I also feel like EE is more interesting
just cuz it is more mathy
UIUC nanofab lab FTW 444
honestly the more mathy the subject the cooler it is
also philosophy
if I had to rank majors it would be something like
Honestly I suck at programming which is why I’m not doing CS even if I really could
Philosophy >> Math >> EE/ChemEE >> Statistical Learning >> [Everything Else] >> CS
Or even CompE
do you think its worth it to take lin alg senior year?
or should I like. wait
if you have the time, sure go ahead
matters
if you want credit transfer sure
if you just wanna learn it, then just buy a book IMO
Putting your own major at the bottom 🤔
dude
for our cs class
we were all pitching "new and novel" cs ideas
and 1/3 of everyone said some form of "productivity app" lol
cs people are hacks 💀
fair tbh
I've looked at it a bit (had to learn some vector stuff because of math comps) but since next year is fairly clear I might as well just go and take it
damn math comps require vector?
that's crazy
I've never heard of that before haha
did you compete in some sort of college level math comp?
@vapid veldt what state are you from?
wa
unfortunately
actually no Wa is cool tbh
It’s late af for me in Virginia 💀
bruh
uva?
I considered applying their for Cs
but decided no way I was getting in haha
yeah iirc its a college freshman level thing
its ran by EIU and like you need to do determinants and cross products and dot products and need to know like. basic properties and whatnot
Those baboons waitlisted me
ah gotchya
uiuc ee >> uva ee anyways
I mean in state tuition is nice
It’s not even close
I got into VT which has good in state tuition
but if I have a shot at the valley
lots of people got rejected from Vt
I’ll take it
fucking wild
and pay the delta later
I thought VT would be like a saftey lol
makes sense yeah
I only got in because I didn’t disclose my race
?
lokey my nickname is pretty white
should have changed my legal name to that ugh
honestly my philosophy is that race based admissions == good
the harder it is for me the better LOL
fight me colleges you little bish
LOL
that’s one way of looking at it
but yeah I don’t think they want me for who I am
Literally everyone else I know doesn’t get in
hmmm go to sleep Oliver
I need to study
💀
😭
ily oliver but I need to ace my exam tmmw so my teacher will stop being annoying and let me live in peace
and I just started studying now
oops
Attempt #2 commencing
it's because hardware requires physical equipment to develop
which is more expensive
210 isn't that bad imo
It just goes very fast
if you can keep up you'll be fine
a lot of people complain about it because it's the first gut punch you recive as an ECE major
does uiuc take awards updates?
got into james scholars but yall have said it doesn't mean much so rip
bruh there was an additional app for campus honors? i had no idea rip
