Hmmm not sure
You can def minor tho
EE + math/CS sounds like hell
sweet
apparently cs+x is far more attainable so
im a bit less nervous ngl
@keen ether how is uiuc ling btw im rly interested in linguistics as well lmao
It's cool we have some cool comp ling classes
But tbh some of the ling classes are ass
But it's not too bad
i have a lot of reqs that i have credit for already so i think a cs ee major is theoretically possible (still prolly wont do it)
oh sweet
i know a lot of linguisrtics bc conlanging is a hobby of mine
Oooo yea then itll be perfect
how much of a disadvantage will applying as intl be for UIUC
is it like CMU where intls arent really too disadvantaged
hmmmm I dont think its a massive one
but it wont be as easy as instate for sure
im oos anyways
ling is my major this better only be some
The core ling classes can suck
But some are really well taught
Very professor dependent
anyone applying on myillini know where we can report ap scores in our application?
why not commonapp?
higher character count for activities in myillini
dang wtf
thanks for letting me know
yeah fs
should i bother trying to put everything in myillini lmao
i dont think they take them into consideration (? might be lying not sure)
wait no way π my teachers already sent their lors thru commonapp
ur good uiuc doesnt take lors
finally submitted (i meant to do it on thursday)
had an epic kimchi jjigae last night in urbana that might be the best advertising i've ever had for u of i
how early do i have to submit to do the srar/portal stuff by the deadline?
does that all have to be done by 11/1? wasnt getting a clear answer online
Thought it was nov 1
Nov 7 is deadline for all required items
srar/portal stuff counts as required items deadline
only the application is due november 1
everything else is due 7th
Yogi?
Ik for ce it's not a disadvantage at all since 40% of the class is international
Yea
interesting
i never knew it was that high
Yeah they told us in the ece orientation ecent
hi yall
bab plus
i did briefly consider yogi but i'd been to bab plus before and i didn't feel like trying new things
oh yea love bab plus
hey yβall, any cs or grainger students willing to review my supps? π
i can take a look
TY iβll dm u
i'm not supposed to list dual enrollment in high school section of srar?? what if i got high school credit for dual enrollment
is that on common app?
yeah you put dual enrollment classes in the college section
i think ill have to do an EE minor
dual degree would take time and i dont think id be able to as statscs major

god i hate all these restrictions
Lmao statcs is pretty tiring by itself
So I double minored instead of getting another major
Like you don't realize the classes will be a lot until you arrive here
i have a lot of my reqs fulfilled through dual enrollement
like calc 1-3
also taking dual credit english and have my foreign language req fulfilled due to a state test
could make other things more attainable
Yea
The calc isn't hard
But the stat classes can get hella tough
fair
Also statcs is quite busy during the years other CS +X's won't necessarily be
Same with mathcs
For a lot of majors, the +X classes are easier than the cs
But not the case for statcs
ig i just want some understanding of hardware incase i want to develop something in both hardware and software and ig the EE minor is enough
so is it fair to say statscs is more of a double major than the major minor most +x's are
yea a minor in EE is def enough
statcs takes both the full cs core
and the full stat core
ah
the stat core is short tho, but thats even for the pure stat major
there are only 5 core stat classes
for both statcs and pure stat
so stats is kinda short
but like it gets tough
and you don't have much leeway
in the case of other CS+X
you can take the easier version of calc and lin alg
but you cannot do that for statcs
you have to take the harder versions
got it
are grainger certificates accessible for blended cs majors
these
looking at it i dont really see why not so its fine
though good to know about the statscs reqs, thanks
alr
yeah MathCS w EE minor is lowkey my plan too
i put a uiuc brochure in my prayer room so...
Is this thread only for current students or prospective as well?
anyone
Alright I had a question about appeals, my top two choices were in Grainger but if I had a third choice in mind if I'm not accepted for my top two can I include that in my appeal?
probably only for a non-competitive major
having both choices in grainger is ac insane tho
Yeah Im realizing it was a bad decision π
The only school that wish me happy birthday π
You got this
happy birthday!!
Thank you π
do any of u guys know for the UIUC application portal if the essays maintain paragraphs when u submit?
Do i still need to submit my transcript through an outside portal (e.g. naviance or parchment), or can i wait until I get the SRAR?
π
I reread the website like 10 times after I submitted my app because I was confused too, it seems like you don't need to submit your transcript anywhere you just need to make sure you fill out the srar
Yep I talked to a friend who submitted her app a week ago. You donβt need to send a transcript, so wait until you get the SRAR
I submitted mine about last week
Are you finishing them on Wednesday because of a time constraint you have tomorrow? Because finishing them the day of could always end up going badly some terrible stroke of luck could cause your wifi to go out or something π
they dont
submitted
for the uiuc srar, do I need to report outside courses like Precalc and Geometry since I took them online through BYU Independent Study?
Do you have an official transcript from ur school that contains these courses?
yeah they're on my hs transcript and I've sent the transcript from BYU itself too
yes then put it
i'd say put it on ur HS bc it appears on ur HS transcript
i did that for a geometry course i did online
Alr thanks
if you get college credit for those classes you need to submit it under the college
im pretty sure it was just for high school graduation requirements
and advancement
is there difference between grainger physics and las physics
i didnt see las physics so i chose grainger physics and i submitted the application
is it harder to get into grainger?
i think they only have one physics major and thats in the eng school
is uiuc self report
Can i read anyone's supps? I'm just now starting mine π
I can show you mine but to be honest when I wrote mine I was just about as lost as you are right now π
pls π
I wouldnt say im lost I just dont know how to start and i also procrastinating hella
its about how uiuc will help you get there
so yes
nvm
selected first choice major
but id still talk about uiuc for atleast a tiny bit
does anyone have the time to read my supps? would greatly appreciate that
ok
does uiuc accept for alternate major too
yea
@keen ether I saw ur admission file for UIUC on Reddit and they said that you taking AP Computer Science was important, but I cant take the class this year because of scheduling constraints, so I am instead taking the AP exam and equivalent classes at CC (not for HS credit), would that work?
I think it would
so i prolly wont be at a disadvantage if i take the exam and do cc classes
yea
plus other cs ecs (usaco, internship, making programming language, etc)
btw how's UIUC linguistics
oh thats fine
its good I think
it depends on what you want outta it
thats fine
ur putting usaco as an ec wtf?
?
its an award
i dont strictly distinguihs between ECs and awards lol
ah shit
i took higher level calc instead of cs
its so over for me π
Gluck y'all
same here π
calc 3?
yeah
my counselor wouldnt let me take CS A becuase i came form a different district and we had a different CS prereq
i took the one in my old district and then when i came here it wasnt considered valid
which fucked me
what's the math&cs acceptance rate? is it significantly higher than grainger cs?
higher probably
significantly higher def not
its one of the hardest blended majors
alongside stats and the new grainger ones
Ive only taken one engineering class during HS and it wasn't even an AP I'm not getting accepted π
my ECs will carry me
and everything else
besides like grades since covid year π€ π
Anyone down to read one of my supp answers?
I feel like im being super straightforward but at the same time the question is simple asf
damn just realized i had a comma splice in one of the supp essay
submitted it 2 weeks ago π
yeah itβs their own system
yeah but their portal isnβt as ancient as the SRAR
yeah it's actually way better and easier to use
waiting for srar
bro it said deadline is passed when its 10pm in my local time
Srar was so annoying lol
They could easily automate but they choose not to fit some reason
would i not make cs + stats with a 3.77? Most of those B's are in stem classes.
Is there anyone here who got into Grainger BioE?and if so can you tell me your stats π
You'll know on decision day. No one knows fs if youll get in. Just try to relax and enjoy your life before college starts
wait
wait for srar to open up
yeah but idk why it sent to me
because u submitted an application?
Did u not read the email
kace did you apply here
It says to wait for them to load ur info to the system
no
I did apply ea to umich and uw-m
oh ok
is there a deadline to do that
for them?
for me
i have trouble differentiating between washington and wisconsin (im applying to both)
they will tell u if there is
what do I do
i just call it wash vs wisc
i sent it
Did they alrdy get u ur portal
why dont they have it
Hmmm very risky
oh this is uva
I had a 3.86 and I was the last admit
i have a 3.7 uw but its mostly cause covid
and stupid english
i think without covid id have a 3.8/3.9
yeah nah im coping im getting rejected π
the schedule i had over the past few years is unrealistic for everyone
i somehow got through it without ending up in a mental hospital so i hope they recognize that
Yo
my Bs are in mostly english and covid
only exception being calc bc second sem where teacher said she would round it up but didnt, and physics c (keep in mind i had zero physics knowledge before this)
and this year prolly calc 3 since my teacher sucks
why does the srar this. I put 4 years of english π
maybe it doesnt count middle school stuff
Shi I didnt know that could happen
Yo is anyone majoring in stat??
maybe i put it all in wrong
Could be just look over it
yeah im doing statscs
stat + cs? or just stat
stats cs
Oh ok
idk if i already asked this (i forgor) but would a 3.5 be an absolute dealbreaker for cs+ling, even if i had extenuating circumstances in freshman and sophomore year
i have pretty good ecs and i tied my whole app around culture and my relation to the multiple foreign languages in my life
idk i think im overthinking ππ
and how i want to work w to help increase awareness for said languages thru computational linguistics
i think you're overthinking but i am not well versed in the epic highs and lows of uiuc cs applications
ngl i shoudl apply ling bc ive actually been doing (unpublished) hisotircal linguistics research and conlanging for a long timne
probably ππ pov im insane
its ok
When is this self reporting grade thing due after u submit the early application?
Nov. 7th
GUYS I forgot to self report my ap scores π
since the deadline for all materials is nov 7 how do i update uiuc with my ap scores?
I mean I can't say anything for sure but it's not like you are gonna get auto rejected
Your my illini portal
Seeing everyone say they're not going to get in with 3.77 uw when I had to submit 4.5 w because I have a 3.5 uw βΉοΈ
me
real real
ty π
how do i put summer courses on srar
also how would i put a class that is both an AP class and a dual credit class
i used commonapp tho
yeah i cant report APs on the portal
um so if my first choice major is astro + data science and second is astrophysics, would they consider them to be similar?
like could they not accept my second choice major
It took me about 20 minutes and moving at a pretty slow pace, not counting double checking it afterwards to make sure I didn't make any mistakes
Can anyone tell me what exactly SRAR is?
Since I forgot to self report my AP Scores can I update them on the SRAR when they send it out?
I didn't get mine yet so I'm not exactly sure how it looks like
search up uiuc srar on youtube they have a tutorial video
what if i dont know my grade conversion/scale EXACTLY
i got mine 3 days too
Youll get it soon bru dw
i applied like oct 20 and i ain't seen that
Did you ever get an email about creating a my illini account?
how did y'all enter a college course you took in the summer on the srar
what do you put in the "year" section
is it the grade level you will be entering after that summer
the year after
for the srar, do we just not enter any high school classes taken in middle school?
like algebra 1 and stuff
does uiuc even look at ap scores?
i filled out the application using myillini and i dont think there was even a page for me to put them
for me there was a selection called "pre-high school"
why would you need to?
algebra 1 is a high school class
affected my gpa
but i took it in middle school
if you don't know what it is then it's probably no
4
no way they separated Chinese, Mandarin, and Zhongwen
AHAHAHHAHAHA
this is actually so funny
the person who made this is def bot Chinese
Chinese is actually kind of op in uiuc
Literally gives 20 credits
Or any other language like that
It will make your standing go up a full semester
So you get an earlier course selection time slot
what about spanish?
how do i know what documents are requested for srar?
wym
I'm starting to get that post ea fear of getting rejected, I keep trying to find people online with similar stats to me from previous years but I never can and every time I do they're oos so I still can't really compare
wrong srar
done with the srar! why was that so exhausting ugh
Whatever happens, happens bro dont worry
Whatever was meant for you is gonna happen
Thank you ππΏ
Np
I get nervous about the same stuff too sometimes
But its not in our hands once that app is submitted so don't stress
Do I really have to re-enter my grades 36 times because 6 courses per semester * 6 semesters
Or am I missing smth
Thatβs just brutal
what do I put if i took chinese in middle school?
and im taking 1 semester of spanish in the winter
I doubt that middle school counts
it's on my hs transcrip tho
it counts for credit
what does repeat a course mean
i got a B in precalc and did it over the summer to get an A
does that count?
Yeah
Repeating a course is exactly what it sounds like
If you did the course again then its a repeat
I made a pretty spur of the moment choice and just realized I probably should have researched it. I just changed my second choice major to chemistry over materials engineering in order to have a second choice that isn't in Grainger but I don't know if I'm actually going to improve my chances by doing that or not
Does anyone else have this issue
idk the original grade though
it doesnt' show on my transcript
@arctic mortar
Was there supposed to be a screenshot on this or is this in response to something?
Mb I wasnt checking discord
Uhh
If it doesnt show the original grade/that you took it twice then I guess you dont need to mark it as a repeat
But honestly I would just in case
@keen ether what software do you use for productivity, note taking, code editors etc?
note taking - one note
code editor - vscode
I usually just use the inbuilt canvas stuff for hw
hows uiuc's dining hall food
lowkey i tried using notion bro but they made that shit way too over complicated
yea I tried for a bit too, its just aint for me
also I wanna be able to write shit with a stylus
so ye one note is just better
ngl its bad π
oh shoot rlly π do yk if theres that many vegetarian options
i lowk apologize for making u the unofficial uiuc answer guy π but r math&cs/cs+x ppl allowed to pursue PhD at UIUC?
ik grainger gets 5yr bs/ms
i got a vegetarian friend there but i honestly have no idea because he just gets a bowl of cucumber for dinner like everyday
one time they were out of cucumber so he just kinda stood around like an idle sim
bowl of cucumber is crazy
honestly yeah onenote is more old school
idk why ppl r tryna be fancy
like using notion to schedule things like "call friend" or "start draft" like bro just do it when u want to
uhhhh I think its a pain ngl π
I mean phd yea
bs/ms is different than phd
yea its simple and stuff
i thought u did EA?
i finished srar 2 days ago
idk if i should have applied grainger cs instead of statscs
i would have done ml stuff anyways though
congrats and good luck!!!
thanks!
honestly its a tossup whether i commit to this or GT if i get admit into both
im illinoisan so it should make sense to go here but damn GT looks like a dream
are u applying cs to GT as well?
sickk what part of their program are u most excited about
threads mostly, but im more interesting in startup opportunities and internships in the immediate area
while uiuc isint simply a cornfield it isint a gigantic metro and tech hub
keeping the illinois spirit aliveπ₯²
truee atlanta has so many benefits locationally
i think i messed up the srar lol
what happened
if uiuc gives me a department scholarship or something then it makes sense to commit here and ill do as such
we have nation-wide exams for 10th but for 9th and 11th its just school exams
so in the "9-11" section, i filled out 9,10,11 but in the nation-wide shit i filled out 10 again and idk maybe i shouldn't have
honestly a fun part of going to uiuc is that you can hop on a train from urbana to union station for like 20 bucks
considering that i prolly wont have a car initially
did u already submit ur app?
both the app and the srar yes
i thought i did it right but then some other kid from my country in this server started asking a bunch of questions and now im second guessing everything
chicago has such fire food
most i cant eat cause meat
literally walked into portillos with only one option that i could get
never again
i was nonveg until like 6 months ago and now im wondering whether it was a good idea to become vegetarian right before moving to the us
if u feel it is confusing, you could email or call the admissions office to clarify
vegetarian my whole life π₯
idk i just cant make the choice to get it at this point
valid
i didnt wanna bother bcuz like i put the same thing twice and although that isn't right, it isnt such a big deal right? llike i didnt enter wrong grades or stuff i just entered 10th grades twice. do you think i should email?
most places have vegetarian options, although the variety depends on the area ur in
it doesn't sound like a huge deal to me!
like an hour back a uiuc student in this channel said veg people at uiuc are severely disadvantaged π
hows the surrounding area though? like are there things to do or is it just dead
oh myπ
^
what foods do u typically enjoy?
Whether you grew up across the world or on the other side of Green Street, youβll find things to do in Champaign-Urbana to keep you busy and distract you from your homework as necessary. Yearly Happenings Champaign-Urbana has annual events that introduce you to new art, culture, and people all year long, and weβre sharing [β¦]
uh i mean i love fast food but whenever i go to mcd/subway i get egg and cheese and at burger king i just get the regular veg burger and at dominoes i get margherita. at taco bell my fav used to be naked chicken chalupa but i haven't visited taco bell since i converted vegetarian
i also LOVE asian food - chinese and thai especially (and indian obvi). like i love fried rice, different varities of bread, fried cauliflower, tofu, etc
idk i kinda like everything ig? except i dont like vegetables lol
uiuc has mcdonald's and jimmy johns (subway alternative) within a five miniute walk off campus! lot of asian options including chinese and thai - under 15 minute walk!
are these on campus or off?
also im assuming you do go to uiuc but just wanted to confirm since usually people mention it in their name π
calling jimmy johns a subway alternative is crazy ngl
looks like they are on campus!
i don't go to uiuc
jimmy johns is meant to be a lot quicker since its order off menu
subway has that but also make your own
idk im rambling
i wasn't sure if smrithi is familiar with the chain since they're international
but yes that's true
yeah i've never heard of jimmy johns
oh wait yeah sorry then
oh alright.
which country?
india
ik indian mcdonalds is NOTHING like american ones
indian taco bells>>>> tbh
i cant find anything here
def UIUC
all the way
but there are lots of options in india
actually i love indian versions of american fast food chains
bro indian taco bell gave me food poisoning twice
for cost reasons?
regular taco bell never gave me food poisoning
cost justifies it enough
and higher ranked cs/ece programs
its cheaper and better
ranking is negligible
im really more concerned about surrounding environments and internship/startup opportunities
i lovee indian food
whats your favorite
for context my uncle is a oracle recruiter and he says like a significant portion of the recruits are UIUC grads while much fewer are GaTech (most r UT bc we're in Texas though)
do u have recommendations?
mmm i need
lol sounds like a you problem /j
DOSAS
cant go wrong with paneer stuff too
ok well ill sleep, goodbye fighting illini
There are a lot of Indian intl students here so there are Indian restaurants
With veg options
Some are hella good, and some seem to be mid
Tbh recruiting gonna be similar across schools
Uiuc has a huge advantage for Chicago tho
i feel you
soggy dosa is depressing
i remember when i visited green street, forgot the resturant but they had rlly good mango lassi
mmm love mango lassi
i gotta get some of this when i go to the CU area
This sounds really scary π
should i change my major to pure cs or nah
i dont think i can do that nvm
ig i just miss out on physics which doesnt matter
but a ton of elective slots
are u read up on uiucβs βcs + xβ program?
i am i applied stats cs
mostly picked it for accept rate + fits goals more
but the electives are a LOT less than i thought, i thought it was only like 2ish less
wdym
im planning on applying for math&cs next yr ngl
i alr finished all the lower div math reqs so
i finished a lot of credits so ig the elective diff wont matter
You cannot transfer (once admitted) into Grainger CS whatsoever. If you want to switch the major you applied to right now (meaning you have a pending application and would like to switch your first choice major) then you can do so in the myIllini portal which you access through the e-mail they sent to you. Go to Program/Term Change Form and then fill out the required questionnaire.
for my cs+x supp is it okay if my experience is centred around the x and not cs
yes however try to connect ur cs and x choices!
oke thenks
It doesn't really work like that
You can choose any elective
Only restricted by urself
You can choose as many CS or stat classes as you want, but you are required to do at least 2
Yes and it might make u stand out even more
Most people that go for CS + x are way more CS focused
You can choose whatever electives you want
Don't worry about it
You aren't in disadvantage to any other major
Signature grill?
Or is it Naya
ah i was looking at the course map, prolly not all of them are required
Yea it's not really like what the avg student does
Most take a bunch of electives
How big of a difference does being in state make for the less competitive majors (specifically animal sciences in this case)
I mean for less competitive majors uiuc is generally a safety school
Being instate makes it easier
But being out state doesn't hurt you too mucj
Alright, thank you. My girlfriend is pretty worried about getting in as well because of her gpa we're both in state and she has some good ecs but it's still been kinda weighing on her
yeah uiuc has like 60%ish acceptance overall in state iirc
me when out of state
bro chill out u dont have to worry about your app anymore you'll see your results in feburary π
i know a bunch of instate people at u of i that don't have super amazing resumes, she'll be fine
Not having to worry about my app isn't gonna make me stop feeling anxious about the results π
its not too bad since there is quite a bit of variety. try to eat our once or twice a week and you should be fine ngl.
there is an entire vegitarian dining hall where my vegitarian friends go to every week day. its called field of greens at lar. it is still a pain as jhaoz said but it isnt the end of the world
I highly reccomend eating out in the weekends bcs thats when it gets really bad
also the desserts here are next level
all of them taste so good
love desserts
what are ur favorites that uiuc serves
oh yeah i forgot there's a vegetarian dining hall maybe i would've remembered that if my friend didn't only eat cucumber
I got in OSS, you got this
you got a good shot at EE even oos
I got the stats and rigor
awards is where it's lacking
I hope they don't mind it too much
no problem
i only had one award and I got in
although it was easier when I applied, you should be fine
you might be right actually but it looked really high at first glance
the average cs+x admit rate is around 24% but lets say instate bumps it up to 30-35%
yeah so OOS male for cs+stats is 24%.
i dont know the exact admit rates for the +x's individuall but stats is one of the most competitive afaik (alongside i think math and the new grainger ones, physics and bioe)
it might be a bit lower this yr tho
so my thought was it has to be lower than the avg admit rate
40% instate admit rate is crazy
even got to almost 50 in 2021?? though thats prolly due to covid
but youre right admit rates will probably go down
yeah
what ru applying as?
statscs
what about you
cs+ling
ah gl
Apple pie not bad
I will say
CS + X is very self selecting
The people that apply CS + X are usually pretty good since they did their research about the CS programs
But a lot of grainger CS applicants are not necessarily like this
So the acceptance rate is true
But some CS + x only admit like 20 people
So even if that percentage is high the actual amount of people that get in is small
Carrot cake, fudge brownie, whatever the layered sweet was called, macadamia nut cookie
They also have ice cream stuff which is really good
Lmao they have a lot of cool stuff like dragon fruit, star fruit etc
imma be at the cornfield tomorrow π₯π₯
Have fun
do they actually consider the secondary major
What exactly does the x in cs + x stand for?
there are
various majors that are cs + something
like cs + statistics
so you do both
x just reperesents the various subjects
yw
Love furina
Ye
their common app doesnt allow you to pick anything including cs for secondary major
if your first major had cs
fuck them π
review of uiuc
university of illinois: under construction/10
but its very good
good bikability(???) pretty good public transport and it seemed the students were very friendly and collaborative with each other
also green street goes crazy kinda reminds me of the area i live in
it ends rather abruptly though
?
the city
i should expect this but
being from a big city area its a lot different
who goes to uiuc for the city
there are lots of things to do though for sure, you wont be bored
champaign's food scene is also pretty great
for sure
i went to one restaurant today, but i didnt try campus food
it looked good enough though
how is uiuc with scholarships for internationals ππ
i couldnt find clear enough information on their website
basically nonexistent
for out of states
internationals are even less

How common are scholarships with in states? I don't mean to ask this directly after the previous scholarship question this is pure coincidence π
i have not heard very good things about instate aid
yeah every other state flagship is crazy cheap instate compared to uiuc
depends
illinois promise
Do you know of any for above the poverty level?
I think its tough
Work study's gonna have to save me
what major are you applying to btw
and ur in state right
IL kids
hello
Hola
Guten Morgen
BioE or Chemistry and I am in state
hmmm ok
I think you are considered for a few scholarships at least
Are merit scholarships based on unweighted or weighted
hiya
they recalculate ur gpa
Oh so they have their own system?
Because 3.7 unweighted being the cut off for majority of them seemed odd to me unless I'm misunderstanding
Ye all colleges do
i got a 3.7 uw too

yeah thats the thing
statscs
everything else is good though
34 composite
yeah
not exactly
i have other choices that are tossups rn
but its amongst the highest
yeah
what state you in
stats chilling for global studies man
youll be chilling
if you're engineering (me) you'd be kinda screwed
youre in MN too so i think wisc likes mn people more than other oos
EE got like a 50% admit rate youll be fine
my entire resume if engineering π
54%
woah I'm chilling then
ty for that
I think my stats can push me in π
because I think more qualified OOS people apply
if you don't think you're qualified you wouldn't apply
me when I apply to grainger with a 3.4 gpa oos
my mom went there but they donβt do legacy
Me with a lower uw GPA and sat
Nope
I ED to Tufts yippee
Y'all think I'm fine for chemistry with a 3.57 uw 4.5 weighted with some good ecs in state π
i ed uchicago
sounds to me like you definitely got a chance
in state is prob fine
you've been very paranoid
I got anxiety like real bad anxiety I had to get a therapy animal. U'm sorry for being irritating in this chat I worry too muchπ
nah is okay
can 1560 good essays and decent ecs offset my upward trend 3.4 w circumstances
nah
ED wasnt worth wih this school
yeah thats what i mean
with this school (and my other choices), applying ed anywhere else wasnt worth
unweighted
Hmmm ngl probably not
Uiuc is sadly quite stat focused
Tbh doesn't work like that but good mindset regardless
itβs ok surely legacy (I know they donβt consider it)
legacy π€―
1560 is pretty good though
and if your circumstances are within reason I think you're in good shape
yeah I got diagnosed w adhd after freshman year and my grandpa died and improved after
uiuc is def stats based but someone at my school got in last yr with a 1490 so i have hope
and he was cs
oos also
true i dont really expect to get in, but it would be nice
man even if i get in i doubt id be able to pay
yee youre right
there is def some bias happening here bcs all the ee majors ik are very smart
But you know how hard it is to stay in the major
yeah
how hard
Reddit makes the course 340 sound like hell
is that the weeder class for EE
Itβs not easy
No itβs after the weed outs
Average gpa is like a 2.8 I remember hearing
damn π
Eh u'll live thru it
Most ppl get shit on in classes cause they don't go
Or don't use resources given
In my opinion it's ECE 210
It's the first hard ECE class people take and a lot of EE people switch to CE after taking it
omg signal processing
sounds so scary
is that where they abuse you with trig and fourier transforms
uiuc is a scary school man
survival of the fittest really applies here
or is that EE in general π
Don't let imposter syndrome get to you
You'll realize not everyone is super cracked here either and most people are just average
EE anywhere is hard tbh
every college is going to have a few classes that are just nuts
my advice would be to focus on developing time management skills and good study habits
those two things will take you very far in college
backwarded π im also average
What's the con of applying uiuc in rd over ea?
less chance getting in
Like approx by how much?
i dont think its out but its def lower idk
For CS a huge amount
Uiuc fills most of their CS class in EA
EA
Anyone here apply/go to UIUC for ChemE?
I think he meant that
You meant EA?
yes
π
Ye
Which would you guys estimate to have the highest acceptance rate - CS+Math, CS+Physics, or CS+Economics?
(OOS)
econ
agreed
Which do you think is the easiest, Physics, Chemistry, Neuroscience or MechE?
οΌthough knowing all of these are solid programs round here
Uhhh chem
take it at cc
take ohysics c
what do u guys think the approximate acceptance rate for cs + bioengineering is
-27172828292929192938393747381192828273728373627%
there arent any numbers bc its a new major but i am assuming very low
not as low as pure cs, but id say 15-20 ish oos 25-30 ish instate
ok but im legacy (this is joke I know they donβt consider legacy)
π LOLL now that ur legacy actually its 11110101010%
CS+BioE is still very new so there aren't any concrete numbers for it
my dad's school (UNC) also does legacy somewhat but they dont have a college of engineering lol
wait so if UNC doesn't have a school of engineering then what would it have for like ME or EE?
they don't offer EE or ME lol
Wait they don't?
They only have biomed, environmental and...applied science minor
wow I didn't know that so thx ig
I guess I made the correct call to not apply there
most instate NC kids go to NC State to do engineering iirc
Iβm breaking down man
The average on our last test was 68
Iβm also the odd one out
Wanna switch to EE lmao
lmao
Iβm in the wrong major fr
ive barely met anyone switching from CompE to EE lol
very cool
Iβm just pretty good at CS and I wanna take 391 so
i would never take 391 lol
It honestly depends how bad my anxiety is, if itβs too bad I might switch to 391 to be nicer on my gpa
i understand
there's a lot of cool stuff going on with silicon photonics right now
Do you do research?
Ok wait where did you hear that from
And whatβs everything you know about silicon photonics lol
this video lol
My deepest thanks to friend of the channel Alex Sludds of MIT for suggesting this topic and helping me with critical resources. Check him out here: https://alexsludds.github.io
β
Silicon Photonics. What a cool-sounding word.
If MEMS is the result of applying modern nanoscale CMOS processes to the mechanical world, then doing the same for the...
Asianometry is a very cool channel
he has many videos about the semiconductor industry
Optoelectronics which is similar
Yeah Iβm trying to learn everything I can to impress a prof
I cold emailed a bunch and only one gave me the light of day
thanks
Finding research* I should say
Oh wait your pfp is straight up our department building lmao
yes lmao
Bruh it's a public school π
It's good they don't take legacy
Or else everyone in first gen gets screwed over
Lmao
Iβm talking about for me specifically bro obviously I donβt wish that public schools take it??? Iβm just upset my chances are low cause I donβt live there anymore
Intl students be like: no state school
has uiuc released decision for non eng majors yet
no lol
my friend who applied health sciences say he got in
they come out jan 26 for ea
and i told him hes lying
i applied journalism and haven't gotten anything
i think bros a lil bit confused
Nah nothing has come out
Ah, good ole UIUC
yeah
I canβt find the CSS for UIUC
Cause they donβt have one
Pardon my stupidity
Isnt that only for private schools
no there are some publics that require css
Iβm really stupid guys Iβm sorry π
Damn none of mine did
Its chill bro
what major(s) are you applying for?
Information and DS major
I think RD is going to harder but idk by how much
IS+DS is a very new major here
I was considering it but I heard a lot of people say that DS + X isn't worth it
um actually its X + DS π€
Oh mb lol
Ap credits dont satisfy the gen ed requirement right?
Also how many hours for gen ed
i think ap credits would satisfy gen eds
ik for cs majors though rhey dont take APCS at all
Aight cool
what are your career goals?
I want to do ux/product design so Iβm interested in the hci pathway
my gf is in IS and this is what she told me:
"The classes on ux in IS are more focused on human-computer-interaction and research as opposed to design.
If they want visual design they should major in graphic design or industrial
also its definitely a good idea to supplement ur classes with RSOs.
Yes the classes do give projects you can put in your portfolio, but RSOs are reaallly good for that"
Ah I see
How are the job opportunities?
Thanks for the info π
life ainting looking up chief
well i submitted, but i think this was by far my best one considering i did spend four monnhs
same, being close to home is best
ye
love this guys vids
theres also the potato guy
Asianometry is very cool i agree
who's potato guy?
it's also 3:37 am right now
finals week is hitting hard
techtechpotato
ah shoot i should ho to sleep
i need to ace the funal for my ece class to get an A
hopefully it works out
Ever wondered what the green stuff is when you hold up a processor? It's like the motherboard, right? Actually it does more than that, and when we look to the future, it doesn't look like the technology will scale to big chips in the future. So insert Glass Core Substrates - the next wave of technology, coming to a CPU near you.
[This video is ...
good luck
to you as well
this is so cool
can you only get the grainger scholarship through ea
or do they give it through rd as well
which specific scholarship?
I think for Eng grainger thatβs what I searched up
my guess is that the scholarship is for both ea and rd
i don't see why they wouldn't grant it for just ea
well i expected it to be like usc where they give all scholarship and merit during ea
