In most cases, from my understanding of the way NYU ad processes applicants is that the first step is the virtual interview/convo, followed by which they further select abt 1200 ppl ig for RD who are invited to cc, which is again selective and then they finally decide basis all of that....but then again this is just stuff if guaged from their website and people's stories

Well according to this sample provided to us, we can assume that it was not a SRS sample and therefore it fails the first step. The sample was Independent as we can assume that the sample size is less than 10% of the population, the do step also is valid ( n> 30) however, due to the first step failing we cannot conclude this as an exact estimate.
