#Northeastern University (2023-2024)
1 messages ¡ Page 38 of 1
is that good or bad
bad
thats crazy
Bro thatâs insanely good
Oh yea Iâm talking about as a school in general itâs a crazy high yield rate
itâs incredible
73% of all of the students that are admitted to northeastern end up going thwre
Did you get waitlisted?
yeah
compE
ye
You want my spot lol
i mean its up to the AOs
@charred mulch
This page describes the requirements of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics.
i was looking at the requirements for the cs and math combnied major and i saw the general elective requirements
are we allowed to take cs electives to fulfill this?
might be wrong but im pretty sure you can
as long as its not already a requirement for your major
that sounds good
i was worried that i wouldnt havbe much cs coursework if i took the combined major
and i had to do 30 hours of non major related electvies
if you have ap credit a lot of those credits can be fulfilled
or dual enrollment for that matter
unfortunately ap credits have a 32 credit limit
anything past that can still count for any requirements it fulfills
but wont count towards the total number of credits for graduation or the total number of elective credits
for example, this is directly from my degree audit
thatâs what itâs like at a lot of schools
alr guys which is the best type of engineering
I just need to get it evaluated
all roads lead to lockheed martin anyways
i like chem e but donât want to live in middle of nowhere
Electrical
whatâs the differences between chemical and electrical
pay wise opportunity wise and coop wise
also interest wise
Wait no it does count
Its phys 1 for engineers
it also counts for science requirement
im just already fulfilling science requirement with ap chem and bc calc (the calc 2 part)
I see
Do yk when I can get my courses evaluated?
as in aps?
hmm i would say to send transcript to neu as soon as u can
not sure what the earliest date is
I read the matriculated students only have up till one semester to get these credits
but the weird thing is you dont get assigned an advisor until around the time classes start
yeah if you have DE send over the summer so that its there by the fall
Also, I read at the max amount of accepted. Credits is 60.
yeah
But I also read that any additional credit will still be accepted, but it wonât count towards the degree
Do you know if this is true?
What are ur stats?
I got in for CS+scholarship with comparably low stats so perhaps I could give some two cents?
?
i got waitlisted
i was talking about a ga tech transfer
got rejected cs but offered a transfer for CompE
yeah for ga tech
ohh makes sense then
congrats tho thats insane
deferred and rejected from ga tech đĽ´
Where are you seeing this?
They do
It should show up in your rejection
yeah it did
Yeah then youâre fine
^^
the yield rate def isnt that high
youll be fine
mine is like 30% lmao (im paying less than that thanks to scholarships)
Search it up anywhere itâs true
But 45k SAI
mad confusing
đ
Thatâs wrong
Other sites says 72 percent
72 makes more sense cus they take a larger amount Ed
yeah 32 might make sense
because if you got into neu you probably got into another better school

@languid moon
Oh interesting
Could have something to do with divorced parents
If you did a internship will NEU give you credit for it
wdym
for the class of 2027, 5,454 students were admitted, and 2,738 enrolled. 50.02%
Like Iâm doing a summer business internship in the summer in management consulting and they said they give credit but want to know how worth it is to try to get credit
college credit?
They said itâs like 15 credits
The group Iâm working for
because 15 credits is about an entire semester
and what are the credits for
because theyâd have to be accredited
and if they are actual credits theyâre probably electives
itâs a question youâd have to ask northeastern after you figure out the specifics
Idk itâs a business course taught by college professors with an internship built in
With many of the sub courses being full length business courses at major universities but itâs really condensed
But yeah good idea
especially because schools have to audit courses to make sure theyâll transfer
Someone who did the course said University of Oregon would not take it when they tried last year who I know
But at the same time Yale accepted them
So it probably is just if it fits the curriculum of the school
yeah
youâre not going to lose your spot as long as you do it by the commitment deadline lmfao
thatâs how commitment dates work
they take people off the waitlist when accepted people decline their offer of admission
u have till may 1st
which is the best places to get northeastern merch
if you go to campus and tour theyâll give you a 10% off coupon for the bookstore
Is the official acronym for northeastern NU or NEU
I know here we call it neu but idk what it is there
wondering whether to get nu or neu on a sweatshirt
something like this
is it weird to get custom college merch if all the official ones are ugly
ur not gonna lose ur spot unless u withdraw or dont commit by may 1st
bookstore
but its expensive
cheaper and cuter đ
what is your favorite part about the campus
idk if i like the ireland one, the gay one, or the regular one
not even commited but i might buy that đŹđˇ one
i wish there were bottoms
yea nvm doesnt deliver outside US
those are so cute and cheap wow
the crewnecks would go so hard in oakland
apparently its always like 70 degrees
50-70
oakland is too warm for a crewneck
is it?
whats the weather like
but spent my last $70 leftover scholarship money on a backpack today :(
its bay area so itll be warm
backpack a necessity
so its not a waste
i spent like 500 on a pc parts
damn u gonna bring ur pc?
im botuta build one yeah
im gonna bring my pc and laptop
youre doing business analytics still?
i hated ap csa
with finanace concentration
oh
i did some coding back when i dev for roblox games
gotcuh
i think cs is def the best major at neu with the co ops
especially since we're gonna be in oakland first year
ya
hoosky is run by current students
U at Neu rn?
Nice was it admitted students day
u guys got oakland?
i got global scholars
also did any rd people get their user details for their like neu student account?
yup
i'll be w u ppl for one semester then lol
cs+math
india
awesome
yall this is a question for myt friend
so hes been accepted to northeastern but worried he'll get a 1 on ap physics 2
if he does do you guys know if he will be rescinded cuz of his bad score
nah
he has a bunch of other good scores but because you cant choose which scores to individually send, hes worried the colleges will see the 1
hypothetically if he sends
ah ight
the part that worries him is like
in the terms of admissions it said that like any grade below a C or a national exam will cause northeastern to "revisit their decision"
by national exam they dont mean ap right? like a test offered by the government?
u wont get rescinded for ur ap exams
ight sick thanks
32% is correct
it's ~70% of straight to main campus
their other programs that they use to decrease AR (nuin, global/london scholars, etc) have a lower yield and still make up like 50% of the class
so total is likely under 40%
they donât consider ap scores unless you report them
ik that people have already responded but ap exam scores donât negatively impact you
they can be seen as a positive, but bc of the circumstances of standardized tests they really donât diminish anything
alright thanks, ill be sure to let him know
is it okay that i wrote my loci as a poem?
yes
commmitted
lets goooooooo
There already is a umass Boston
yeah ik lol
for what major
imo neu wipes as someone who has a apperciation for liberal arts schools
like they cost the same essentially
what kind of enviroment are you looking for
small lac or bigger university
yea and cali vs northeast
I just wanna focus on my education itself
my major is env stuides in occidental but not rly sure with that choice
education wise
which oneâs better?
it really depends on your perceptions
theyâre both great
but nobody can determine which one is better but you
go through the course requirements for your major
what about price
so how much is northeastern
about 60000 for the tuition
ooof
thats sm
for your major
prob wont make that much money out of college
and idk what kind of co ops youre gonna get
unless youre rich id just go with the cheapest
if I go to neu then Iâll be cs major tho
oh fs neu then
neu cs is really really good
lotta professors are mit grads
so the education is really good
they do a lot of good research
Computer Science Rankings
this is based off research
yea I saw the rankings
can you afford northeastern
only thing Iâm concerned about is the job market itself
yeah tuitionâs not a matter
co ops gonna benefit
most schools dont have it
so youre alr at a disadvantage
at northeastern its hard to get a co op but its 100x harder at a diff school
id 100% go northeastern if i was in your shoes
I honestly may not even enroll
I wish i applied to a completely different set of schools
Shouldâve applied to SLO đ
do u rly think u couldve gotten in?
Neu and cal poly r a whole different league ngl
OOS, atleast
Yeah
My school has a great relationship with them
And for business
so what will you do
Umm not sure
you got into iu ? right
Brandeis, LMU, SMU (Non Cox), TCU, St. Lawerence, ASU, Utah, Washington State
isnt brandeis nice
i hated it personally
My dad said SMU or St. Lawrence and then transfer
but idk
ill prob end up just going with Northeastern
yea exactly
and I like the school and what it has to offer a ton
its just I prefer warmer weather and I just have a gut feeling
i mean which one is less expensive
colby a better school but I think NEU may be better for the major
Financial aid finally respond back after 3 weeks and they still want me to provide an unnecessary tax form
I already got financial aid offers from other schools and they didnât need that form
have you committed?
No
I might as well take a gap year atp
Admitted EA and still havenât gotten my preliminary financial aid offer
1 email takes them 3 weeks to respond
atp js call them
i honestly was so scared for college a whil ag but now im really excited
im honestly really happy i didnt get into tufts
fr?đ¤Ł
i wish i appliedto more top schools
you should call them
they took care of my stuff so quick
Fafsa is taking forever đ
did anyone else get a letter from the president?
anyone in this server post this ?
oh
why ?
oh well hopefully
i turned in my loci last week, (i know late)
but i dont rlly have much updates
its just not at that level ig
its pretty expensive and isnt the best
well not last week, i guess this week
compared to simillar schools
sunday
you wont hear anythnig till like after committment day i believe
they needa see how many people are committing before seein how many people they can accept off waitlist
although idt you can get boston campus off waitlist tho
pretty slim chance
are you okay with oakland first year, or global scholar/nuin?
finger crossed, 1 yr in Oakland then 3 at Boston right ?
thats my plan
one yr at cali sounds fun
and the amount of hate it gets, maybe the hate can help my chances
Def wasnât my first choice
same
Bro I took today off to do work and my ass has just contemplated college shit
And now Iâm more confused than ever
committ and dont think twice
Yea honestly
you got into Boston campus 4 yrs!!
committ rn
bro then go neu
theres no like no contemplation
wouldnt make sense to go iukelly
I gotta talk to a couple more people but I will officially commit Thursday
Iâve had it in my ig bio for weeks đ
Iâve been basically committed
is global scholars where you do like one semester in oakland/londno then boston?
same
i just committed yesterday too
Yea
come oakland
we can be suitemates đ¤Ťđ¤Ť
Itâll be fine
gotta be the worst palce ive ever visited
to eacch their own
My least favriote place might be Paris like as a international city or maybe Talin, Estonia
Talk about a shit hole
It has open sewage
Real
where you from?
did you apply uwash??
Are u from Oakland I forgot
Nah lowk regret it but also it had 10 percent AR so I was gonna get rejected anyway
Ahhh ok ok
nah youre instate
its like 10% for oos
i got waitlisted there for cs
Still I prob wouldnât have gone
its a relly good school tho
For business itâs so hard
Like ik hella instate kids with 4.0s who got rejected biz
Only half my friends got in
And they all are going to great schools
i wish i lived in seattle
i have two backup plans: 1 commit to state school and transfer to gatech and other schools 2 maybe get off the waitlist
just do first one
and then if you get into neu do that
Ngl itâs kinda ass like I say that cuz I live here
and the apply for transfer after 1 year regardless if youre at gsu or neu
seattle fr like my dream city
i migt visit while im on west coast
are you set on london first tho?
transfers basically impossible
unless youre a veteran at cc
i will still try for fun,
Nah
I want to tho
So I can go to st. Frattys when im in Cali
Also I want all the sun in Cali
brown, gatech, wellesey isnt an ivy but i like it, Harvard
pu oakland first semester
if i apply for transfer itll be gtech and maybe uiuc
but i dont lie any of the cs+x programs at uiuc except for cs and math
but idt i can qualify for it
Do transfer to like UNC, Michigan, Emory, USC, or Dartmouth
Schools that are easier for transfers
Even vandy or the ucs
dartmouth liberal arts
ucs are expensive
ucs arent easy for oos
Transfers arenât horrible tho
their transfer rates are inflated cuz of ccc agreeents
Yea ik
Maybe
yeah but i will still try ivies
because i have nothing to lose
Dartmouth is the easiest transfer wise
I may apply transfer there it is my dream school
i donât have a dream school but i really like brown
In 2020, Brown University's acceptance rate for transfer students was 7.07%. Approximately 2,000 students apply to transfer to Brown each year.
i thought it would be more than 2k hmm
LMU has a partnership with the Los Angeles Rams so for those wanting to get into sports would like that
legit same price after aid + scholarship
I mean colby is a liberal arts school, so it might help with the classroom enviornment if u perfer smaller
Both college programs for those majors are good, it just depends on what type of college life you want
They donât want conventional students
Itâs mostly veterans
How do u know its the easiest
i mean thats males the overall rate is like 7 percent
8/429 is like 2% tho
im just going off what it says online
From the common data set
Like on diff websites?
Iâd say to just look at the cds of different schools bc thatâs what they actually report
Theyâre required to every year
yeah ig
Iâm also thinking abt transferring out of Northeastern to schools I like more
Not that I donât like Northeastern, just that there are other schools Iâm interested in
But Iâm also trying to find out how feasible it is
UNC, UMich, USC, Emory, Vandy
all have pretty high transfer AR
like compared to normal AR
Bc there are some schools that seem like they have good arâs, but then itâs like 85% of accepted transfers are from ccâs or smthn like that
Like for ucâs
yea exactly
yea which sucks
Vandy seems to be the only one with acc good chances from what Iâve seen
realistically i wont transfer
Yea I want too but it might be harder than it seems
Why?
yea exactly
Bc itâs competitive?
its extremely cut throat in the classroom
Oh ok
like having a pre determined ammount of As for a class
Damn
Cool
no clue there common data set is like 40 percent AR for trasnfers
Oh ok
42 percent
Dope
1535/3645
Even if half of that is in state thatâs def not bad
yea its not bad at all
Like im reconsidering my descion now tho cuz it would be harder to trasnfer from NEU than another school
cuz of how diffrent it is
Yea
my dad wants me to go to SMU instead or sum
But neu is still a good fallback
Like technically the best strat is community college
But thatâs a huge risk if things donât work out
yea
And northeastern is still def good bc co ops
I was gonna go to SMU all along but I didnt get into the biz school
so id have to do econ
Idk how much co ops make up for lack of prestige tho
Oh ok
it has prestige to an extent
very good IB hires according to there employement report
Yea def has some but not like at a target level
O rlly
yea its a IB Semi target
For like top firms?
28 percent of class of 2022 went into IB from the finance concentration
the finance concentration had 40 percent of kids go into Private Equity, VC, Consulting, or IB
in 2022
like it has great job placement
yea
yea
Dyk when we get told if weâre in oakland or london first
no clue
Also apparently unc has a state mandated cap of 18% of their student body being oos
And for their regular freshman applications itâs 42% instate and 8% oos
same thing with UT
Ik one girl this year who got in
she not going tho
we had like 6 kids get into stanford
its just a normall public school
Oh ok
did you commit yet ?
Damn
nope
For ivies my school has a lot that got into cornell and brown
And then 1 princeton, 1 columbia, and 1 dartmouth
No harvard yale or upenn tho
And then 1 guy that got into stanford, northwestern, jhu, and caltech
He got deferred from neu and was considering ed2ing before he got all those good results
Heâs rlly smart but also kinda dumb sometimes lol
im guessing he got in rd ?
Not sure what happened but honestly itâs prob more likely that he got yield protected
Like they js rejected him bc heâs too good
respectfully yield protection is not a real thing lol
Rlly?
i dont think so
Bc they definitely game that
itâs a running joke in this server that if you got rejected from somewhere you were yield protected but itâs not a real thing
As far as Iâve heard
they donât tho lol
and even if they did, yield protection would not factor into that
i think its more about fit
maybe he didnt fit ?
northeastern also considers demonstrated interest
but either way yield protection isnât really a thing lol
Thatâs weird
Iâve been fully under the impression that itâs a rlly common practice
How do u know itâs not real?
idk, but someone in this server got rejected from neu and got into MiT
so maybe they care about fit/ demonstrated interest more
Yea maybe
But I feel like being super cracked would kinda fall into not being a good fit
Which would be similar to js being yield protected
Idk
we had one upenn, like 3 yale i think, 3 or 4 columbia, 3 or 4 dartmouth, 1 or 2 princeton, 6 stanford, no mit, no caltech, no harvard
i think they are qualified but didnt like there personality or didnt demonstrate interest
we had alot JHU and Northwestern tho
Jeez
so maybe demonstrated interest (is yield protection)
Yea
but that doesnt rlly make sense because they should have gotten waitlisted instead
or like your friend who got deferred
Yea
Thatâs why I think that to some extent yield protection prob is real
Like if someone is super overqualified and a college can tell that that person has a low chance of acc wanting to go to that school
It would make sense for them to reject that person and accept someone else whoâs qualified and wants to attend
Yea thatâs what I thought
Like schools donât let in super qualified candidates if they donât think they will go
Iâm js not sure where they got their info from
O lol
I went 10/18
I shouldâve applied to more tho
I got rejected at 6 reachâs, 1 target, and got waitlisted by a safety
which safety ?
Boulder
10/18 is def good tho
Yea I wish I had applied to like 10 ish more
i mean yield protection is a thing, but itâs not what people think it is
Iâd guess I wouldâve gone like 13/28
Like more selective schools u mean?
Oh ok
As in like its less common?
most of the time yield protection is used by state/public schools that need a specific percentage of in-state students to maintain funding
for unc only 18% of students can be out-of-state
Yea we were js talking abt that acc
and ut austin has to have 90% texas students
Jeez thatâs worse than I thought
But I feel like it makes sense for other schools to do that too
Itâs so fuckin bad
i mean itâs great for in-state students because it helps keep tuition down
It was my top school and I got shit on
Like logically if someone is super overqualified, it makes sense for colleges to give that seat to someone they think is more likely to attend
Yea exactly
yield protection is also strongly alleged lol
it used to be called tufts syndrome because tufts almost solely accepted students that they knew would enroll
no school has publicly admitted to doing it
I mean it makes sense that schools wouldnât publicly say they do it but I donât think that makes it less likely to be real
but in reality what people tend to think is âyield protectionâ is actually demonstrated interest/spots already being filled by early action/early decision admits
also a good rule of thumb is if you google something and almost every result is those bullshit âtop tier admissionâ and âivy league coachâ websites, itâs probably not an actual issue that you need to worry about
Fair
@empty wing are u going to rice now
NEU aid is non existent for me shit hurts
Like 150k income no aid
how is that possible
if you make 35k
why would it be 31k a yr
definitely appeal
Families who apply for financial aid and do not qualify for The Rice Investment will still be evaluated for need-based aid eligibility. For these families, Rice remains committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need.
https://financialaid.rice.edu âş eligi...
massive mistake
`are you set on rice tho?
i would love to attend rice but if my aid appeal doesnt work and neu is cheaper i might go to neu
gotcuh
my fin aid appeal already got rejected from denison university
id still love to room with you
same bro
is neu cheaper than rice as of now?
i still havent gotten my neu aid
yall got like lots in assets tho
mine is 210k income and i have to pay 29k
yeah its dumb tho cuz u cant just access it
yeah i understand
like its a bit annoying
like its not a finacal burden to my parents but it would still be nice to get aid
you didnt get anythnig?
rough
you committed yet?
Neutron
W
Deposit paid
I got into global scholars, when is the decision of where to go gonna drop?
probably after commit deadline
they did say may
Is there a way i could maybe influence the choice they give me? I want london first, should i email them?
awesome
you can try but it mainly depends on availability and age
bc iirc younger than 18 canât study abroad
Is there a pattern or a way to predict where I would go first? I am 19
idts
youâll get an email to claim your account
i got it abt two days after i was accepted but that was ea so it might be longer if you havenât gotten one yet
I got that email march 25th (rd applicant), so check your junk folder snd if you never received it, reach out to neu
It will send a new email just call if needed
My friend got off waitlist
for Boston campus or for one of the alternate first year admit programs?
oops iâm now realizing i also got an email on feb 2 âŚ
and that the link expires in 60 days ⌠and itâs now been almost 3 months
so i called it and they sent me an email lol
bos
wow waitlists coming out before commitment date
hoping i get off the udub one
would u go to udub over neu
true
did you commit to rice?
i have a quick question to anyone who is a current neu studet, what are the LLC and dorms combinations this year
since ik they tend to be similar each year
like eng is always in stwest
BRO WHERE IS FAFSA
how tf could they not release fafsa yet for me
like decision day is in 2 or 3 days or whatever
like
yeah mines still awaiting
i got 0 for css
but
fordham gave me 20k/yr for fafsa even tho they also gave me 0 for css
so i have hope
my sai was like
45k
on fafsa
smehow
somehow
idk why it was so low
but if fordham gave me money neu prob will too
northeastern will prob give money asw
yeah
my sai is like
10%
of my parents income
but fafsa has more context ig
theyre divorced so
thats prob why i got any money from fordham
sai only matters if ur like 0 to -1500
anything more than like 10k sai is like up to the school
my fin aid might cover a year of tuition
the co op another year
and my 529 plan+ cc classes this summer will cover a year and a half
nah, my sai is like 35k and my est aid was like 30k
so half a year left to pay for
for me it was 45k and 20k/yr aid
i mean if i dont get any aid from neu ima be rlly upset ofc but
i can still 'afford' it
id just rather not đ
either way if neu fafsa doesnt pull through i can negotiate cus i got the money from fordham
i did ED so
erm
u can still negotiate
u dont have to say 'ill go to this school if u dont give me money' but they can still be generous
cus like its only fair
if the school will ever recieve my fafsa then ill negotiate
if another school gave money
oh wait
arent u supposed to withdraw
so u cant match aid if u ed
only negotiate the amount
yeah i did
yep
i feel like everyone who did ed got boston campus
not boston campus was only like ea/rd
yea majority of boston admits are ED
mhm
theyre not using it
they sent an email saying that they dont plan on making significant changes to their initial fin aid offers
and they wont be using fafsa
??
wtf
why
bruh
i am fucking negotiating then
cus fordham literally gave me 20k/yr in fin aid from fafsa
but 0 from css
bro cant you afford full pay?
you got like 100k in your own savings, and then parents income at like 400k
youre prob not gonna get anything anyway
đ
i know some middle class ppl canât fully afford to pay for college but i hope yâall realize fafsa is for the low income ppl! so donât be surprised if u donât get anything
and u seem to be upper middle class
no offense but if u say u can âafford itâ, lets leave the left over financial aid money to the students who actually do not have the money to pay for college đ¤
i think he is rich
yes
but
400k is like rich, but not wealthy
i want more money obv
i like in new york
not wyoming
keep that in mind as well
well
the house is paid off
but my mom pays for the apartment
plus my parents both have cars
theyre divorced too
so its not rlly combined
either way, if i get the fordham type financial aid, thats 20k a year
so that saves me from paying for an extra YEAR of college
itd be great
Thatâs what I was sayij
i mean i get that but
its not like its easy for me either
i still have to pay and my parents have big bills for other things
One of my friends appealed for his aid and got like 5k more
I was gonna do it too
But I realized if I can afford it Iâm not gonna take away from people who canât
Itâs not gonna happen
They said theyâre not using fafsa
Itâs based off csss
some ppl arent as privileged as u
Check your email
ok then i appeal
im still gonna try to get money lol
its not like they have a specific budget
take out loans like other students do
like bro đđđ
right
Dawg youâre coming out pretty out of touch
yes its like that for everyoneâŚ
but ur parents make 200kâŚ..
thats not that rich for ny
i promise you
both together
theyre divorced
are they both helping ?
i think you are okay
I think youâll be good bro
yes but im still gonna appeal
fafsa wont help as much
i guess you can try but doesnt make sense
100k in savings and 400k income combined
seems to me that you got lucky with your position in life
bro i still dont want to pay like
well im not payng for everything cus
im taking cc classes
thatll save a bit
then uhhh
i mean see you have cc classes
i can get scholarships outside + scholarships for doing well if i have a good gpa
dude
thats 1 summer
thatll save me like
30k max
my tuition is over 80 thousand dollars
i dont care how rich i am, that is a ridiculous number
i mean does your combined income and your savings cover everything
im not a multi millionaire
i mean my parents
i wouldnt even say theyre millionaires
i mean
lets see
co ops will cover about a year
my college savings will cover another year + 20k left
and 30k from the cc
thats 2.5 years ish so far
Youâll be more than fine đđđ
right
but if i get 20k/yr ill only have to worry about actually paying for 1 semseter
Run the numbers
