Here is how I think about it you're one of these:

1. You're not a fit for MIT in any light/pool and you simply get rejected right out the door from EA.
2. You are an amazing fit for MIT, you check atleast most of the boxes, and in any pool/light you're a good candidate so they admit you.
3. You're a good candidate/good fit for MIT, but you aren't quite as impressive/as good of a fit as the others in the EA pool so you get deferred into the RD pool and you're reconsidered amongst a different pool
